We'll admit it, mind control, transforming into demons and taking on the seven deadly sins sounds like an awful lot to pack into one Switch game, but today's reveal trailer for Bonus Level Entertainment's Saga of Sins promises all this and more.
In a move that we here at Nintendo Life are eternally grateful for, the reveal trailer focuses predominantly on gameplay (what a concept!) so while we may not know exactly what the plot will have in store for us, we can get an idea of the game's eye-catching and original stained glass window visual style. Looking like a Zelda prologue come to life, these visuals will help set Saga of Sins apart from other side-scrollers with a unique take on the genre.
You will play as Cecil (our English pronunciation of which doesn't sound as cool as the trailer's 'Ses-eel'), a mysterious figure who has the gift to infiltrate people's minds by transforming into two different demonic creatures and fight the evil sins therein. Your transformative abilities continue the game's clear metal sensibilities as you can embody either the Howling Werewolf or the Ferocious Gargoyle — two character types with their own unique projectile abilities.
Bonus Level Entertainment promises that there are more demon types yet to be revealed so we are excited to see just how more rock-and-roll these transformations can go — a Flaming Centaur? A Terrifying Ghoul? A Sweat-inducing, erm, Imp? The possibilities are (almost) endless.
With the game releasing at some point in 2023, there is still much for us to learn about Saga of Sins, but for now, you can check out the studio's round-up of the different level types below then gaze over the following stained glass screenshots.
Saga of Sins is a “story arcade” game combining a dramatic storyline with rewarding arcade gameplay. The game offers 31 villagers’ minds to enter: sinners and innocents!
Sinner Levels
– Gluttony, Sloth, Envy, Greed, Pride, Lust and Wrath! The seven deadly sins have befallen the minds of the villagers. Find them and cast out their sins to free Sinwell from the plague.Innocent Levels
– Unlike the sinners’ minds, embodied by the action levels, themed after each seven deadly sins, innocents’ minds offer a surprising variety of puzzles, riddles and skill tests to solve.
It may well be a while before we hear more about Saga of Sins, but this certainly looks like one to keep an eye on. We eagerly await the next demonic demonstration.

Huh, it does look like stained glass window if it was a game.
Looks cool as hell. I'm actually glad its arcade style and not another Metroidvania.
I’m sorry, the animations ruin the aesthetic. I’ve grown tired of the marionette movements currently being employed by a lot of devs these days. Vanillaware got away with it for a long time with me and… I’m over it. Hand drawn art does look clean, but moves terribly. This is a disheartened no from me.
Might be cool, but that stilted animation reminds me of Caveman Warriors.
Not a flattering effect. Looks good stationary but ugly in motion.
It looks very janky to be honest.
Not sold on the aesthetics either.
@Realness
It's not a limitation of hand drawn art. My guess is it's a limitation of the middleware they're using.
Hand drawn is just expensive.

@Realness It makes them look like a flash era browser game lol and I can't say i've ever played one that did not have terrible gameplay along with it. I can tell at a glance that the gameplay in this one is janky AF. No thanks.
@Realness I hear you regarding the marionette animation, It usually bothers me too. I was playing the Ghosts 'N Goblins remake recently and it was really sticking out. However I think it actually works with the stained glass aesthetic of this game. That's just me though.
Looks stunning
Looks gorgeous and has a double jump; what more could you want from a game?
@Realness YES. I hate marionette movement because it doesn’t seem like the characters are alive or animated. Looks dead and I disdain it even if if saves them time having to fully animate unique movements or frames.
I didn't realize that "looks like a moving stained glass window" was a synonym for "looks like polished-up Flash animation".
It is certainly stylish - very pretty! I'll be keeping an eye on it for sure.
Jankiness aside, it looks promising. Maybe by next year, the animations and combat will feel a bit more polished (seeing this is just a reveal trailer).
But that said, I for one quite enjoyed my time with Gleamlight (a poorly-rated with a very similar aesthetic) due to its janky charm. Maybe I'm just weird like that.
That is a beautiful looking game. This is definitely on my radar now.
Man, the paper-pin animation is a huge turn off to me. Shame.
Any game were I can play as a werewolf is immediately in my "keep an eye on it" list.
I love the aesthetics, although I agree the animations look a bit off. Not that big of a deal to me though, so we'll see how this turns out.
I'm all over this one!! Sins aside, I'm there day 1!!
The stained glass window look is very impressive! The player movement and enemy movement gives off a NES action game vibe, for good or bad.
Nice style. I'll look for a possible review when it's time.
Looks like it could be Nintendo Hard.
I love the aesthetic but the animation looks a bit tacky
Looks interesting, but the movements look kinda stiff.
Oh dammnn this looks amazing! Never heard of this.
@Realness Couldn't agree more. It looks pretty good, but the animations really killed it for me.
The gameplay looks like it will be a $15 or less game.
