Re: Switch OLED Model Rates 2 Out Of 10 On Screen Durability Scratch Test

Mountain_Man

Just get a Hori screen protector. They're hard as nails and super easy to install without all the nonsense of having to subject your Switch to a hot steam room. Wipe the screen carefully with a microfiber cloth, make sure there are no obvious dust particles, and then simply follow the instructions for applying the screen protector. I've used Hori on my original 3DS, New 3DS XL, and now my Switch and have never had a problem. No dust, no bubbles, and perfect alignment every time.

Re: Review: Dying Light Platinum Edition - A Solid Switch Port That'll Please Portable Players

Mountain_Man

"Not the prettiest version on the market" downplays how good Dying Light on the Switch really looks. This isn't an Outer Worlds port where it's obvious at a glance that sacrifices were made to get it running. Rather, Dying Light easily holds its own compared to even the PC version, and the visual compromises are only apparent if you consciously look for them. While performance does occasionally dip, I have yet to find an instance where it interfered with my ability to play.

@VoidofLight "I'm not praising Nintendo for adding content that should've been at launch..."

It's this undeserved sense of entitlement that is a large part of your problem. I just hope you are able to let go of the negativity and find a way to enjoy the game as much as the millions of us who are eagerly looking forward to this added content, but I suspect that with every new feature revealed, you're just going to grouse about how "that should've been there at launch" and will stop playing in a few weeks with nothing but feelings of bitterness.

@SpaceboyScreams "...even with all the evidence I gave you..."

You didn't give me evidence, you gave me your opinion. I, in turn, gave you my opinion. We happen to disagree, but disagreement is a part of life. No need to get your nose out of joint over it.

You claim that New Horizons is supposedly "missing" features and then, as is typical of these arguments, present a list of things that were in New Leaf but are not in New Horizons. Of course if I wanted, I could present a list of things that are in New Horizons but aren't in New Leaf. Does this mean that New Leaf is "missing" features and is an incomplete game? Of course not. It's an absurd argument.

@SpaceboyScreams "You got a lot of enjoyment out of something half finished..."

No, I got a lot of enjoyment out of a full and complete game. Even if Nintendo never released this update or the expansion, I would have felt like I more than got my money's worth out of New Horizons. I don't feel that there is anything missing from the core Animal Crossing experience (by the way, if you talk to the animals multiple times a day, they actually have a large variety of things to say). This additional content feels like exactly that to me: additional. I don't feel like it's completing the game, I feel like it's adding to it and will give it far greater longevity than New Leaf ever had.

As it is, it seems you've headed down the same path as VoidofLight and have put yourself in a position where you can only have negative feelings which will suck a lot of the enjoyment out of it for you. That's too bad.

Re: Yay! Town Ordinances Are Finally Making A Return To Animal Crossing

@SpaceboyScreams "... they never stated it would be released half finished."

Because it wasn't it. In terms of hours played to date, I've gotten at least as much entertainment out of New Horizons as I did from New Leaf, and now with this latest free update and a meaty paid expansion? New Horizons is going to leave New Leaf in the dust! I don't see what there is to complain about.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Dying Light On Switch

Mountain_Man

The statement that any game could be made to run on the Switch is what is referred to as trivially true. Certainly with enough sacrifices to visuals and performances, you could conceivably port any game imaginable to the Switch (Total War: Warhammer? Sure, why not!). The question is whether or not the end result would be worth it. In the case of Dying Light, the answer is obviously yes, but this will not necessarily be true for every game.

Re: Feature: Tackling A Timey Wimey Virus In Doctor Who: The Edge Of Reality

Mountain_Man

Doctor Who used to be a great program. Too bad they ruined it.

And Russel T. Davies returning? I suppose it will at least be better than what we have now now, but honestly, I got really tired of his version of Doctor Who and was thrilled when both he and David Tennant left the show. We had a terrific run of "Nu Who" with Stephen Moffat at the helm and Matt Smith and later Peter Capaldi in the title role, but then after that, it all went to *****. Maybe RTD can pull off a second miracle like he did in 2005 and revive a series that most fans have written off, but as the saying goes, "Hope for the best, but expect the worst."

Re: Dying Light Platinum Edition Dated, Dying Light 2: Stay Human - Cloud Version Confirmed

Mountain_Man

@aresius Thanks for that. Looks far better than I expected, which leaves me (perhaps unreasonably) suspicious. Bullshots?
Beta images before they had to strip the visuals way back to get a playable framerate? Game looks great but runs like a slideshow? Frankly, I would have expected some significant compromises to the visuals considering how much horsepower the game needs to run smoothly on much more capable platforms.
