No idea why it isnt just a reversible cover in the first place.
The big companies really do seem to overlook their fan base and it puzzles me.
Lets face it, the audience for a release like this is a bit niche in the first place, then if are specifically getting a boxed version over a digital version of the game you are likely doing so as a collector. So why dont the recognise this and ensure the release is fit for a collectors shelf to begin with.
Surely it cant have come as a surprise to squenix that people done like box art with huge warnings plastered all over them.
I wonder if there could be a decent market for this type of thing in the future, in terms of re-releasing fully fledged retro games that are hard to find. I'd still buy Radiant Silvergun or a re-print of Panzer Dragoon Saga on the Saturn for example.
It does seem more likely now, but you would have thought if they want to go to town on the VR experience they would have waited until this 'new revision' was out before releasing the VR stuff.
Ideally you would want a 4k screen but that seems highly unlikely, so it will probably be a 1080p screen perhaps with some fancy screen tech to make the experience even better.
The Switch is already capable of of 1080p output anyway isnt it, so it may just need a battery boost to pull it off.
Nights Burning Rangers Virtua Fighter and VF2 Sega Rally Fighting Vipers Fighters Megamix Last Bronx Shining Force 3 (all 3 parts) Shining the Holy Ark Die Hard Arcade Radiant Silvergun Panzer Dragoon, Zwei, Saga Sonic R Daytona USA Guardian Heroes Virtual On
Theres 21 without really looking at third parties or games like Virtua Cop and HOTD which might be too difficult to make work given the hardware.
I'm really not sure I see the point of a 'Switch Pro' what would it do?
You could perhaps improve the quality of the screen maybe oled or something along those lines, and bump up the onboard storage but other than that what else could you do apart from upping the specs in terms of ram and processor but then you are creating that divide and creating a scenario like with the new 3ds which got about what 2/3 actually tailored games?
So he admits he knows nothing different to anyone else then.
While its probably unlikely that it comes to Switch in its most recent form, I find it highly unlikely that Platinum would completely bin everything from a game they have been working on in one way or another since 2006 and very actively since 2013.
They will have generated a ton of assets and code, which would surprise me to see them just bin unless they are bound by some form of contract with Microsoft, which seems increasingly unlikely given the fact they appear to have allowed the copyright/trademark on the name to lapse.
I'd love Platinum to become a 2nd party dev for Nintendo, they are practically there anyway. A studio of their quality putting out consistently top quality games on Nintendo platforms would be brilliant.
@sanderev You are missing the point, Nintendo don't think the same way as other companies. I'd be willing to bet that if we get something VR related from Nintendo at all, it wont be as we currently understand it.
Just like the 3ds wasn't expected for its time, neither will this be, I guarantee Nintendo will go their own way on this one.
@sanderev I know how VR works and you are referencing a console from nearly 25 years ago.
Lets be realistic here, they have either come with some sort of ingenious way to give a a VR type experience with the hardware available or the rumour is nonsense.
But the suggestion they are going to put out some sort of broken idea is just daft, they won't.
Gotta love the 'experts' on here, Nintendo aren't exactly known for releasing shoddy broken experiences, so if it is true, it'll work and it'll work well.
I think a switch mini would do well, but purely with the focus on it being a handheld.
I would remove the dock, fix the controllers to the side (but change the left buttons to a dpad), remove the option to link to a tv and shrink it down by about a 3rd.
I'm not interested in a switch pro at this stage, I'm not really a fan of revsions that upspec like dsi, new 3ds, gameboy colour for instance. Keep the playing field level, but give a more affordable choice.
It all seems quite a logical approach to me, they have started at the bottom with NES games and the emulation seems absolutely spot on from what I've played, so no complaints there. They kept the price low enough to encourage people to take up the service and see what its all about.
Then my guess is we get the SNES games around March time at the halfway through initial subs stage. Then the following September when renewals are due we might see a subs hike with another platform arriving, possibly N64.
All the while building up a service and library that eill hopefully be able to continue on future systems for years to come.
@NotSoCryptic while I agree with the points you make, its to simplistic to say that trimmed down versions of the games wouldn't work. It's really down to the publishers to want to make them work and how trimmed down(customised) they are, like EA (amazingly) in the case of Fifa.
They certainly could work, even if it means having unique versions exclusive to Switch, its whether publishers think the market is there which historically admittedly it has not been.
You only have to look at that chart to see why Nintendo as big as they are worlwide always struggle to crack Europe vs Japan and USA.
If the likes of
Red Dead Redeption Call of Duty Assassins Creed Far Cry GTA Tomb Raider Spider Man
were available for Switch, it might see Nintendo close that gap. There's a few there I would like to play myself but I wont be buying another console to do so.
This seems like a bit of a stretch, if it just comes from that one profile page. That switch comment could simply be about the engine that fifa on switch runs on for instance.
My guess is a number of those wont be 2019 titles. Certainly not Metroid, very likely not Bayonetta or Pikmin and I think that other GameFreak title Town will be moved for two reasons, so as not clash with Animal Crossing and to focus all efforts on Pokemon to get it out this year.
Still a good year ahead though, I reckon we might be in for a surprise too with an F-Zero game springing from nowhere possibly co-developed with shin'en who haven't done anything of note for a few years now.
I'm not so sure, but Pokemon and Animal Crossing will certain prove the point either way. Of the top 10 biggest selling 3ds games, we've already got MK, Smash, 3d Mario with 2d Mario on the way. The two remaining really huge franchises are Pokemon and Animal Crossing.
It reads the same for ds and gba as well really, discounting brain training and nintendogs Pokemon and AC are still the next go to 'handheld' games. I think both will prove to be massive hits personally.
The switch is missing some Project Zero, I'm surprised they didn't port maiden of the blackwater to switch, I thought it was quite a good game that didn't get the audience it deserved on Wii U. Also Koei Tecmo are happy to bring every Warriors game under the sun to Switch so you would think they would be quite used to the porting process now.

Re: My Nintendo Europe Offering Alternative Reversible Cover For Final Fantasy X | X-2 HD Remaster
@apoqalypse of course thats possible, but I do think these covers exist more because of the backlash to the existing cover.
The fact they have changed the warning to be smaller in upcoming games kind of backs up this point.

Switch Sports
Skyward Sword re-release

Re: Nintendo Still Expects To Hit 100 Million Switch Software Sales This Financial Year
It'll be interesting to see what releases we get over the next few years in order for Nintendo to keep up this momentum.
Next year (I think all are confirmed for 2019) we are getting:
NSMBU
Yoshi
Fire Emblem
Luigi's Mansion 3
Animal Crossing
Bayonetta 3
Mainline Pokemon
There's some potentially very big hitters in there with AC, Pokemon and Fire Emblem.
Metroid is still somewhat of a mystery but then where do Nintendo go once all of the big hitters are on the console?
Donkey Kong?
New Zelda?
New Mario Kart?
Odyssey 2?
F-Zero?
There's potentially a very interesting 2019/20 coming up.
