This is a pleasant surprise for racing fans. It turns out that Road Redemption lands on the Nintendo Switch today. This Road Rash-style motorbike racing game was originally slated for the Wii U believe it or not, but we're pleased to finally get it on the Switch.
For those not in the know, Road Redemption finds players leading a biker gang on an epic journey across the United States in a combat road rage adventure. You earn money by completing races, taking part in assassinations, performing robberies and other wholesome challenges.
As you collect loot, you'll be able to upgrade your avatar and their bike, as well as get your hands on new weapons. Complete with a huge single-player campaign, dozens of weapons, full 4-player co-op split-screen and online multiplayer, Road Redemption looks pretty tasty if you ask us - keep your eyes peeled for the full review.
You'll be able to pick the game up from the Switch eShop today for $19.99. Check out the launch trailer above and let us know if you plan to take it for a spin with a comment below.

It may not be quite Red Dead Redemption 2... but chances are, you may ride into trees just as often.
The pricetag may well bump it further up in my purchase queue, too.
Looks bad. Also the title puts me off.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t this game get awful reviews? I’ll just dust off my Sega Genesis, or 3DO, and enjoy the real thing.
Finally!! I can't wait to read some reviews on this game. Hopefully the concensus will say it's good.
@BanjoPickles Mixed. IGN slammed it, others really liked it. It gets great reviews from Steam users. Some complain of glitches and lost save progress but the core game seems fantastic.
Really curious about how this reviews on switch as on other systems the reviews were all over the place. Some said it was bad other thought it amazing. Would love a good modern road rash so fingers crossed.
Man, I loved Road Rash, and Skitchin (the roller blading version)
I hope this reviews well because I might have to get it
@Stargazer yeah. Was gonna day actual players seem to like it.
I’m interested for sure.
Thought it was a certain other "Redemption" game for a second.
I bought this on Steam a year ago. Played an hour and then asked for a refund. I'm a big fan of Road Rash (especially 64) and this couldn't hold a candle to it. The controls just did not feel good to me.
Additionally, I was really put off by the extreme profanity. Just seemed unnecessary and like it was trying too hard to be edgy.
I'll keep an eye on this for reviews. I'll be playing Grip for a while anyhoo so this is one for later if it's any good.
I loved Road Rash, but this has not reviewed well. Still thinking about it because I love Mutant Football League and that game gets mediocre reviews as well (though most poor reviews of that game came from people who don't understand it).
So if you were only going to choose one, would you take Road Redemption or GRIP?
Oh great. A game where people try to run you off the road and shoot at you. Sounds like my morning commute down I-94.
@psychoBrew I'd get the $20 game and wait for the other to go on sale, assuming they are of similar quality.
@Stargazer Good point.
@BanjoPickles it has a 71 metacritic but i'd say 8/10 easy. i've rarely had so much fun with a racing game and i love love love burnout and twisted metal
@sketchturner there were a huge amount of updates and patches as i understand it. the version i got a month ago was amazing.
As someone who still owns Road Rash 1 and 2 on Mega Drive I am interested in this. Will see what people say about it when it comes out. I can take outdated gameplay but not game/save breaking bugs.
Been waiting for this to come along! And with online perfect!
To all people wondering whether or not to buy this:
Screw IGN and their dumb review. This is easily an 8 out of 10 game, and then some. I played the beta on PC, which was already hilariously funny and entertaining, and the final game was even better, and the few glitches that it had, have already been addressed, so I'd expect the Switch version to be the final edition of this great game.
Simply put: a must have for every Road Rash fan.
Seriously, though, I really would love to see Road Rash 2 or 3 in one of these Genesis collections some day.
I won't pick this up for $20, but I might if it gets a good sale someday.
Looks really bad though
I'm hoping Shovel Knight pops in the Switch version!
I thought the trailer looked pretty good to be fair...!
I remember Road Rash being great back in the day (Amiga 500!), and this looks like quite a lot of fun. Going on my "download and play over the holidays" list!
Played it on PC, can't top Road Rash 64 so passed.
Looks kinda fun to me. Might pick it up at some point.
Completely unrelated but anyone have an idea whats happened to 90's arcade racer?
So how does it run on the Switch? Not one review out there...
This is cool, seen some mixed reviews on this one. I'll probably grab this since I have fond memories of playing the heck out of a rented copy of RR64.
I really wanna get it, but it must be the patched final version. I hope they made a great port to the Switch. I will wait for the review on NL - keeping in mind it’s not necessarily a game that appeals to everyone.
Hey don't knock this game I played Road Rash on PS original and I had a blast. It was just to much carnage fun. I'd give this game a go around just for the pure smash'up game. But needs to be Physical not eShop common........
Giving this a WIDE berth, particularly when I can think of numerous better ways of spending £20.
It took time, but it ended up looking quite solid!
Stylistically, I do think these punks end up looking like actual [removed] on motorbikes, and I would have enjoyed a bit more of a deliberate angle on this kind of thing.
@psychoBrew Yeah, what's the frame rate?
Omg, I have been waiting for this to come out on consoles since I backed the Kickstarter when it was destined for WiiU...but now at least they're offering Switch keys to backers (just not yet)
It’s 15.99 on PS4 but 17.99 on switch and the reviews are really mixed not seen a switch review yet tho
I’ll wait for some reviews. If this gets anywhere near Road Rash 2 I’m interested. Or the 3D0 version, which was mind blowing back in 1994.
I think the trailer looks great, probably going to buy based on that alone.
You know what we all thought it said at first
@Patrick-Sukiyaki its god awfull to put it mildly
@Pablo17 I'm guessing the trailer was based on the PS4 version of the game since it's a dual console release.
The trailer just shows smashing people up. Is there any proper racing to be had in this game as well as the smashing?
It looks simplistic, repetitive, morally reprehensible and brutally, unnecessarly graphically violent.
So yeah, I'm interested.
Cos sometimes you just need some brain-out daftness. I'll await a Switch review here though, and maybe a sale.
Only played a cpl stages on quick play but definitely worth a try, I didn't seem to notice any sort of lagi-ness/frame rate issues, really have been waiting for this to drop for several years, can't wait to get deeper into it.
@TTgowings Thank you. Sounds like it's worth picking up then. I did not want to end up with a game like WWE 2K18.
It will be mine. Absolutely.
Road Rash was my childhood! Man I loved that game.
This looks like a proper spiritual sequel. I think I'm gonna get it. It looks exactly how I imagine Road Rash would look today. How can that not be fun
@DrJiggle
I also commute down I-94 for work.
Where are you at? I'm in between Madison and Milwaukee, and commute to Madison each day.
But I know I-94 stretches up from Chicago to Milwaukee, over to Madison, and then keeps on going up to Minneapolis, then over to Bismark, North Dakota and Billings, Montana
@JaxonH It starts in Detroit, so that should give you some idea

9-10. Good site too
Played about an hour and I really like it. Played campaign and the some quick play, will do some split screen later. The gameplay is great, controls are very responsive and easy to get the hang of. There are some hilarious crashes that happen.
@beazlen1 If you know Road Rash, then you know how this plays.
It's both racing and trying to beat the crap out of your opponents.
Here's a bit of actual gameplay from the most recent version on PC, to give you and any other curious and/or on the fence person a bit more of an idea:
Must be ATV quad power racing 2 successor
Review will be important for this one. It's been on my radar, but I haven't made a decision on it yet.

@TTgowings Not bad...
LMFAO I just left a comment on another article saying how awesome it would be if they ported this game to Switch. I had no idea they had plans to do this.
This is why I try to check to see what's coming out on Switch from time to time, only this game has no shown up on a single list I've checked. Worst of all not even on Nintendo's coming soon tab on the store. Shame on everyone for ignoring this insanely fun game.
I'm buying it right now
@Pablo17 So you would say the framerate on Switch is good?
@BladedKnight and where on earth did you get such a ridiculous opinion like that from? Your ass? or straight out of thin air? because clearly you haven't played it.

Hope this sells well, it may fill the hole Burnout has left in my heart!
@electrolite77 3DO version still remains a great game! I have it on the original Playstation and the aggressive soundtrack really adds to the feel of the game. The only thing it lacked was a split-screen option. Then it would've been perfect. If Road Redemption can do what Road Rash did back in the day, then I don't know why it's not in my collection yet.
@HugoStiglitz_420 Mind your language, and stop with the insults.
This game is terrible. Played it on PC, honestly don't waste your time and money.
I backed this on a kickstarter back in 2013. I replied today to an email chain that started back then, and asked for the Switch version as my reward (I originally chose the “Wii U” version). Haha. I wonder if they’ll honour it.
@ThomasS IGN 5.7/10 - Too much road rash
IGN, the gold standard in reviews.
@Octane Find your safe space and stop with the snowflaking.
Got this today. Excellent. Road Rash is back. Don’t know why it has had moved reviews. Absolute must have
@ThomasS As if I'm the only guy saying anything positive about it - https://store.steampowered.com/app/300380/Road_Redemption/
Not to mention, you don't even need to hardly scroll up this page to find a few other people that actually have played it and love it like I do, so no, it's not just IGN or some guy with 420 in his name.
If you really would make that stupid of an implication to begin with, it's obvious you already had your mind made up about the game beforehand. You clearly WANT to dislike this game, because if you were actually reasonable or objective, you wouldn't focus solely on one review, especially not one from IGN. Focusing solely on game "journalist" reviews is already dumb enough, but you wanted to take it to an even more idiotic level apparently. Bravo!
ThomasS - 0/10 IGN "Too much salt"
Get blocked nerd.
@TTgowings Awesome. Thanks dude!!!!
Loading times are awfully long. After each round the same loading time. The intro Stutters extremely with low fps. The gameplay is fine and it takes some while to get the controls but after some time it really clicks. If it wouldnt be for the extreme loading time it would be at least a 7/10
8/10 definitely. Graphics are decent and game runs really well both docked and portable. Put simply this is a great pick up and play game. Controls are great and it is basically Road Rash repackaged.
Loading times can be a touch slow but it’s not an issue that detracts from the game.
This is a diamond of a game and highly recommended. If you loved Road Rash you love this!
I have been playing this game since it's early access on Steam (when you could ride as Shovel Knight early on) and it is a greatly entertaining game, it takes the road rash style to the next level. It's not exactly how I feel Road Rash was back in the day and it is pretty violent and not for the littles but I recommend and will probably buy this again soon .
Glad a remake has come out but if it isn't physical I will be very disappointed here.
I can safely recommend it at the current pricepoint. It needs some performance updates, but it IS the first console release as far as I know (unless it was on Ps4 first, but it hasn't hit Xbox One yet). Single player runs well enough, but split screen can certainly take a big hit in later levels and with certain weapons.
It's been a good deal of fun so far, though.
