I absolutely LOVE a good hack-n-slash, but there are none scenarios in which this doesn't turn into a confusing mess and/or give me a violent headache. That sucks, cause I can see that there are some solid mechanics going on here, but there's just not enough visual clarity (no matter what their promotional copy says) for a game like this.
So I guess Balatro pretty much takes over your entire soul, and I'm thinking Pocket Jockey is gonna do the same, so I'm dead now and merely a vessel to play Balatro and Pocket Jockey. Good times.
Mine was discovering that I do, in fact, love deckbuilders. Monster Train, Roguebook, Slay The Spire- pretty much all of them. Been a late-in-the-year revelation but a welcome one!
I've really been getting into these more traditional roguelikes lately, I'd never really given them much time (I've historically preferred roguelites like Dead Cells etc.) but one day a couple weeks ago I played some Crypt of the Necrodancer as the Bard (no beat) and I got hooked. Bought the sequel and I've been playing stuff like that, Yodanji, and Quest of Dungeons ever since.
I want to get back into the previous Shiren game but I need to get to a place where I can just dedicate my gaming time to that on its own for a while. It's not the kind of game you can dip in and out of, so I may try to do that before this comes out. Looks to be a killer game so I'm stoked!
I'm just weird I guess, both BOTW and TOTK just end up overwhelming me and stressing me out, but I keep going back to Minecraft. No matter how much I've played it, the wonder never stops, but with the modern Zelda games it just doesn't hold me. 🤷♂️
@sleepinglion Sorry I missed your reply, thank you, and I agree 100%. Give me the original on Switch, untouched even, and I'd be happy forever. Actraiser was SUCH an important game for me, and the remake just didn't do it for me. The original should be on NSO though, and it's honestly a little ridiculous that it isnt.
@sleepinglion Yeah, I really wanted it to be great, the original is still one of my all time favorite games, but it just wasn't that good at all. And, the reworked tower defense stuff made that part less fun, so thr whole thing just kinda ruined itself in my opinion.
Really enjoying Silent Hope, it's got that "comfort food" gameplay loop for me and I think it's going to be my fave for this fall. Still loving Summum Aeterna too, and gonna try to get a little more into Bang-On Balls: Chronicles this weekend if I can break from Silent Hope. It's good but I'm hoping the upcoming patch will smooth out the performance a little. Playing some things outside of my usual zone lately and I'm liking it.
Loving Sunmum Aeterna so I started Aeterna Noctis last night lol. Really digging the gameplay in both, and didn't really see that coming. Started Ender Lillies too.
Enjoying a weirdly specific kind of game right now, I'm playing tons of Little Noah: Scion of Paradise and Lapis X Labyrinth. Summum Aeterna is taking up a lot of time too, WAY better game than people realize.
Went ahead and snagged this since I'd seen some pretty high praise for it around the interwebs. Gotta say, it's really fun and it's pretty tough but there's some decent meta progression so I'm sure I'll get better lol. The combat is excellent, and even though I'm not SUPER into hand-drawn games this one definitely has a vibe. Performance is fine for me so far, not sure what that's about but I'd say if you like games like this Summum Aeterna is absolutely a must-play.🤷♂️
@Big_Round_Robin Gonna have to add this and Ember Knights to that all-time list, cause they're straight-up amazing. I'd put them at the top now, and Cult of the Lamb sneaks in too. But yeah- this game is one of the best twin-stick roguelites I've ever played, it just hits ALL the right notes for me.
@Nintendencies Man, I've just put a good few hours in on Ember Knights and it's definitely a must-buy too! I'm WAY better at it on Switch than I was on Steam lol! Between Ember Knights, Doomsday Hunters, and Cult of the Lamb (just got it a couple weeks ago) I'm set up for a while! I love these occasional bursts of insanely good roguelites.🤘
@Big_Round_Robin No worries, glad to be of service! Rogue Legacy 2 is amazing too, and there are others that are great as well but those are the ones I go back to the most.
@Big_Round_Robin Absolutely! My faves (in no particular order) are: The Binding of Isaac, Dead Cells, NeuroVoider, City of Brass, Immortal Redneck, and Ziggurat.🤘
@Nintendencies I didn't play that one too much, only cause I got super into this one at the time! I'm snagging Ember Knights right now though, I didn't realize it was out!
@Nintendencies It's got meta progression, but if that's a negative in your book I'd just say try to look past it- there's an absolute ton of stuff to see/find in this game and it never feels like the same run twice. It's one of my all-time favorite roguelike/roguelites and I've played hundreds. This one's really unique and it's a total blast!
TOTK has taken my top spot, and not just for Zelda games either. This is what it feels like to rekindle the love of Nintendo magic and a reminder why I always stick with 'em. When Nintendo is "on" there's nothing better, and TOTK has (like when I got my Switch back in 2017) reminded me of what it felt like to just LOVE that magic.
@shoeses You're probably right. I don't know, it's like I said before- besides the queue being a little sketchy from time to time I thought the game ran damn near flawlessly on Switch and I put in a ton of time with it happily. Cash is king though, and if it wasn't bringing in the bucks I guess that's how it goes.
@shoeses Chances seem pretty good at this point lol. I really liked Paladins, I even bought a few things past the Founder's Pack a while ago. Seems to be happening a lot these days, all these things that are supposed to be the "wave of the future" sure do seem to keep crapping out on us lol. Live service games might just not be the great white hope the industry thinks they are.
The game always ran pretty great for me, besides the queue taking FOREVER sometimes I never had a complaint about it. It's a bummer but I also don't really have the time for games like that these days so I'm OK with it. I definitely got my moneys worth.
All I want is more power, after a year or so of my Switch OLED (and almost 5 with my launch model) I love everything about it. Maybe make the eShop run better, it's kind of a pain most of the time. Other than that? I don't care about themes and stuff like that, I just want the next Switch to come out swinging and make me want a Steam Deck less.
It's such a huge bummer about Minecraft on Switch. I've logged more hours in Minecraft on my Switch than anything else, and since we don't have any other consoles nor do we game on PC it's my only way to play. I haven't played in months because it just keeps getting worse and worse. Exploring the overworld is pointless cause the draw distance has gotten worse with every update, don't even bother using a boat, and the freezing and crashing never seem to go away. The Marketplace is constantly not working, or not letting me access the stuff I've bought, and honestly the whole thing is just a mess. I get it, the Switch isn't as powerful as other consoles but I feel like there's 0 reason it should run this poorly. It's my favorite game of all time, and I miss playing it, but I think I'm about done unless there's a miracle.
That's it, it's some kind of collective psychosis- I've been playing this for hours and hours, handheld and docked, and outside of a couple small glitches and a moments worth of camera wonkiness it's been incredibly smooth and super fun. Looks killer on my TV too, so I've got nothing as to how this man's decade-long work is being crapped on so bad all over the place. I'm at a loss here, folks, cause it's a really great game that does exactly what it set out to do.
@TromaDogg Yeah, I'm just not understanding where these reviews are coming from at all. I'm a former reviewer myself and this would be getting pretty high marks from me for sure.
I've been really getting back into 3D platformers lately, and I've been putting some serious time into most of the best ones on Switch. I just finished New Super Lucky's Tale this morning and I'm going between a handful of others too. I decided to pick this one up in spite of the bad reviews and I gotta say- truly not getting where it's all coming from. Occasionally janky camera has always been par for the course with the genre, the controls feel perfectly fine to me, and you can clearly see the love and detail work that went into it despite what I presume was a limited budget. I've read it all and after spending a good chunk of hours with this one it's either I have abysmal taste or I'm just not seeing what everyone else is. Well worth the $30 and I really hope this guy isn't listening to all the negative talk cause I feel like his hard work truly did pay off.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 2nd)
Trying to make progress in Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown but in all honesty I'll be playing Balatro. It's perfection, it truly is.
Maybe some Pocket Card Jockey, Suika Game, and Street Fighter Anniversary Collection- but let's be honest, its gonna be mostly Balatro.
Believe the hype, it's a masterclass in game design and every bit as brilliant as you're hearing it is.

Finally found my groove with deckbuilders so I'm ALL about Monster Train right now. Such a phenomenal game.

Cadence of Hyrule and Dicey Dungeons currently have my attention!
