According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aquaman and Dune star Jason Momoa is reportedly in "final negotiations" to star in the "live-action" Minecraft movie. Yes, it's really happening...
It's not specified what Momoa's role would be in the movie, but The Hollywood Reporter has revealed who else will be involved with this Warner Bros. project behind the scenes. Here's the full rundown:
"Napoleon Dynamite filmmaker Jared Hess will direct the project, based on the popular video game...Dune producer Mary Parent and Roy Lee will produce, with Jill Messick receiving a posthumous producing credit for developing the film before her death in 2018. Executive producers include Jon Berg, Cale Boyter and Jon Spaihts. The video game hails from Sweden’s Mojang Studios, with Mojang’s Lydia Winters and Vu Bui also producing the film."
The Minecraft live-action movie was originally revealed in 2014. Our previous update on Nintendo Life dates back to April 2019 when Minecraft developer Mojang announced a release date for the film including story details. Since then, there have been countless delays and changes behind the scenes, and well clearly the movie is still a long way off.
How would you feel about Jason Momoa's involvement in the Minecraft movie if it ever sees the light of day? Share your own thoughts down in the comment section.

Of all the video game series where a live action film really makes logical sense to make, Minecraft is not one of them.
I can't believe we live in a world where the director of Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre is at the helm of a live action Minecraft movie
He does have Steve’s manly physique and complexion.
Didn’t this movie already release on March 4th 2022?
LIVE ACTION?! WHYYYYYYYYY?!
What's the Plot? to block or not to block? 😂🤣
That will be just a terrible movie
I can't wait for a time where we stop needlessly worshipping movie stars.
@Johnnel No, since it was delayed countless times.
I’m sorry, this is supposed to be live-action? As much as I love Minecraft, I definitely DO NOT want a movie for it.
Welp this sounds dumb. Maybe it'll be dumber then that movie pixels, let's see.
@FishyS Well, this and the Tetris movie that's been floating for about a decade.
99% animation with bits of footage from actors spliced in isn’t what I would deem to be “live action”.
Minecraft should really be a full blown CGI, not live-action.
Aquaman as Steve...?
A movie about a blocky imaginative world, I wonder who will get the role of Steve and Alex.
@Maulbert The most interesting part is that Tetris movie is going to be part of a trilogy. My guess is that the pandemic started in Wuhan cause it to delay and their actor for the tetrominoes got sick. The movie was going to be film in China and had a story that'll span 2 sequels.
Who the heck thought live action and minecraft would be a good mix? I mean maybe some of the other video game movies but minecraft? the game thats made up of blocks?
You have got to be kidding me!
@RubyCarbuncle That is the question.
Blockbuster, tehehehehhhhh... that's good.
....Minecraft....movie...live-action?
Excuse me, what?
What on earth....? Is this a dream?
I wonder if they are going to "Detective Pikachu" this movie and make it super realistic or have it hybrid pixel-real life aesthetic. Sounds like this movie has been in development hell if it's been in the works since 2014.
I could understand if it were a purely CG animated film, but live action just doesn't sit rightwith me. I'm wondering if they're going to attempt some sort of Who Framed Roger Rabbit scenario?
Can't imagine what the movie will be like, I guess I should go back and play that narrative Minecraft game to get an idea. Lol
I'm calling it now: he's an Iron Golem.
The only way to make an authentic Minecraft movie is to make it a 14 hour long art house epic. No dialogue; no cuts. 1 man struggling against the elements to make a cake.
@blindsquarel and it will somehow make tons of money because Minecraft
I haven't played a lot of Minecraft or watched much of Story Mode, Dungeon Crawler was fun 3 payer w/ the kids, but I see this playing out like so
Like the Jumanji movies some kids get sucked into the game and have to complete the story of getting past the Endermen to fight the dragon.
Basically it will a live action Dungeons & Dragons called Minecraft.

I've never played Minecraft, but isn't it basically you building your own world or something? Does it have a plot?
@HammerGalladeBro I wouldn't count on that. Look at the flops that were the Mario Bros and Street Fighter films.
@Tempestryke Yeah, it’s a sandbox game and you can do whatever you want in it. There is a end game, but some people don’t want to beat until they’ve done everything else (like me.) As far as plot goes, there isn’t any but people have been unraveling its rather complicated lore for years. I think you should give it a try!
@WeLiveInASociety I see. Thank you for the explanation.
... Minecraft is a sandbox game. This is like making a Garrysmod Movie lmfao how?
I mean, I can see him as Steve. This sounds like one of those movies you have to see no matter how bad it ends up being LOL
This movie is being made only because of how popular the game has become. The story doesn't matter at all. Typical.
