Nintendo has just released a new firmware update for the Switch. It bumps the system up to version 14.0.0 and while it's not an overly large update, it does add one significant and long-requested feature.
After five years, users now have the ability to create groups of software. This is basically the folder update, which means you can organise your library of games in all sorts of categories. There's a limit of up to 100 groups, with a maximum of 200 titles per group.
So - there you go, you can finally clean up your Switch home menu. In addition to this, Nintendo has changed the volume behaviour of Bluetooth Audio, further enhancing the user experience.
Below are the full patch notes, courtesy of Nintendo's official support page:
Ver. 14.0.0 (Released March 21, 2022)
"Groups" feature was added to the All Software menu.
- You can now create groups of software to help organize your software titles.
- Making groups for different game genres, developers, or whatever you’d like to organize by may make it easier to find the application you want.
- Up to 100 groups can be created with a max of 200 titles per group.
- The button to proceed to the "All Software" screen is displayed only when there are 13 or more software title icons on the system.
- For more information, see How to Create Groups of Software.
Bluetooth® Audio volume behavior was changed.
- You can now adjust the volume of Bluetooth audio devices using either the Nintendo Switch™ console or through volume control buttons on the Bluetooth audio device.
- The Bluetooth audio device must support AVRCP profiles for these changes to work.
- The volume displayed on the console will reflect the Bluetooth audio volume when using the device’s control buttons.
- The maximum volume output for some Bluetooth audio devices has been increased.
- When first connecting a device, volume will be reduced to avoid sudden loudness.
- For more information, see How to Pair and Manage Bluetooth Audio Devices.

Que folder begging.
This is all fine and dandy, but I JUST WANT TO SORT BY INSTALLED TITLES!!!!
OMG, Nintendo finaly added folders to Switch.
Folders! 5 years later, but welcome addition!
Folders, more icons and more things to do with my nintendo points! Not to mention bluetooth headphones and customisable controls. They've actually been listening to feedback! Custom themes next?
Still waiting for a day when Nintendo finally gives the system Dolby support. >.>
@WhiteTrashGuy they actually added that too!
Folders finally, and it only took 5 years.
Better late than never lol
Finally, "Folders" are here!
I got some organizing to do, backloggery mostly.
@TheRealMr_Carpainter …These are folders? There’s not really a difference other than the name (groups sounds horrible).
Does anyone know if you can add physical games to groups? Never used the folders much on 3DS. EDIT: You can.
About d***** time!
I thought we were about to have another round of stability jokes.
People asked for folders for such a long time that their voices were almost disappearing... It seems that offering folders is such an undertaking that they needed 5 years to finally deliver it. But at least it's here now and for me it will help a lot!
Woo! After five years! Holy crud Nintendo!
And I was hoping for more stability.
@Scapetti
Joy!!!!!!!!!!
THEY FINALLY DID IT
Switch users now have absolutely nothing left to complain about... jk
Always have to Google if there's been any softmod found for the current firmware version before I update just in case
we did it! after 5 years of begging! Now 5 more years for those themes
A nice addition, next add Themes.
StarPoint wrote:
Now if they add more themes next, everyone is going to have to find some new pointless thing to whinge about.
I made a group called Physical Games. There are two games in there right now. But! I have a gift card I remembered I had that I'm gonna use on Kirby this Friday, so there's number 3
All we need is private messaging and custom themes. We're so close I can feel it.
AHHHH YES! I couldn't care less about themes so this is all I really wanted.
FOLDERS??? YES! FOLDERS!!!
No. Freakin. Way. Wait, it’s almost April 1st. Is this an early joke?!?
I'd almost say this deserved a bigger announcement. Both here on Nintendolife but also from Nintendo's side, can't understand why they didn't do an exclusive Nintendo Direct episode for the reveal what with the Megaton news 😂
In all seriousness, though, I'm very very happy 🙏 It has been a mess to find stuff at times by now...
Hey look, a round update number that actually has a nice update to it! Thank you for telling your boss, uncle who works at Nintendo!
Awesome stuff. Now I can separate the Arcade Archives by original publisher.
Better late than never with the groups! I doubt I'll use it anyway, as the setup of showing your 12 most recent played titles is nearly always sufficient. For less recent games, it's easy to find them in alphabetical sequence in the current "All Software" group. Correct me if I'm wrong, its seems the 12 most recent titles will show first, and the groups are in the All Software group, which sort of defeats much of the purpose of having a group except for basic categorisation when exploring.
It's not really folder tho... it's not on the home screen, you have to go to all software and press L..... Nintendo doing Nintendo thing
@iLikeUrAttitude we still don't have themes
.
with Nintendo finaly adding folders after so long, it give me hopes, themes can come soon to Switch.
Can I put the game app icon from physical version into folder?
YES! FINALLY! This is the update I've been waiting five years for! The 3DS and the Wii U had folders soon after launch, so I don't know why it took them so long to add this to the Switch but I'm glad it finally happened.
@Giancarlothomaz Give it another year or 2
Not bad, but it's ok, still, I have the og switch and I haven't updated in a while if my switch is exploitive I would rather stay offline tbh, too little, too late!
well finally this could be helpful. Now I don't have to scroll all the way to the end to find a game.
I will probably split it though.
1. Horror games
2. Adventure games
3. Chill games
4. Fighting games (Although I have about 2 or 3 but I might get more)
and idk so far.
Bout time! Now I can sort my demos from finished to not finished!
(Ever since I realize that they’re removing demos I started hoarding them)
Oh my they finally went and did it
Cool. Albeit very similar, I like this groups feature more than folders on 3DS.
I literally wished for this yesterday. What the hell?
Nice. Now I can put all my game night stuff together instead of scrolling when everyone gets together. But 200 games per folder? I guess better too many than not enough.
@Anti-Matter yes you can I have Mario Kart 8 which is physical in one
@BabyYoda71
Silly me, I misunderstood it to mean friend groups, and didn't read the article. I guess the function is the same as folders?
Folders.
Just checked it and…lame. It cam only be seen on the All Software Menu and selecting Groups. They are still all over the place on the main menu.
Bah
Thank goodness, my Bluetooth earbuds sounded so pitiful to the wired ver.
YES YES YES!!
**Daniel Bryan Danielson
OH
MY
GOD
<head explodes>
FINALLY, a folder for shovelware!!!
And now the crying for themes begin.
Need more Expansion Pack features!
@anoyonmus you stole my horror game folder idea, you thief!
@DK-Fan ya. Why cant Nintendo get this ***** right!?
@Arkay When has it ever stopped?
But I wanted folders not groups!🤣 This is great news. I can finally have all my shmups in one group. I have so many that I forget what I have.
FOLDERS! FINALLY!
Finally, I can stop listening to you guys bliptchin' about it! 😝
Edit: Nevermind.
The best part of waking up is FOLDERS in your cup!
Wait - we actually got FOLDERS?
omg, finally, time for the folders dance of happiness. Now I'm going to spend 8 hours this weekend organizing my 200 games rather than playing them. But it will be worth it! 😀
I still want accurate play times on the main screen, not just for the NSO games. “Played xx hours or more” doesn’t do it for me.
I'm pretty confident Nintendo hates being told what they should do and usually looks for an "unique" way to please the begging.
It's my head canon that it took them 5 years to figure an alternative name for Folders
One day, one day the Switch will get Dolby support. TwT
Mildly confused why the news headline is not:
"F O L D E R S ! Holy f*** mate!"
I don’t have a ton of games, but I’ll definitely do this to just catagorize into games I can play when friends are over and games I cannot
Might have to check this out, but I wasn't really worried about folders to begin with.
100 groups, 200 games each. 🧐 But what if you have more than 20,000 games? 😝
The folder fandom is finally eating good tonight
Rejoice! Rejoice!! The prayers of the Nintendo faithful have been answered.
Can’t wait to ORGANIZE! 🤩
A neat little addition, definitely helps when me and my better-half wanna game on something and get fatigued from the massive list of games and icons - option paralysis! Now I can just filter only the games we play together
Only thing I wish is better surround sound options, switch doesn’t play nice with 5.1 soundbars
What’s the point of these “folders” since they don’t even appear on the main menu like with previous systems? I tried making groups and I found myself missing games and having to go back and add them; I just gave up after a while because it wasn’t worth it.
More power to you if you enjoy this implementation, but I think it’s a rather dissatisfying way of putting in folders. I won’t be using them.
I hate this as I hate all things.
~~~spends next 42 minutes creating intricate folders of every subgroup imaginable.
@Arkay you are only half right - there will be continued complaining about folders.
They can't be on THE main screen, only on All Games. Pretty pointless.
Enjoy it while you can. When the Switch successor is released, we’ll go back to a vanilla startup screen and it will take 5 years into its lifecycle to get folders/groups all over again.
While I'm glad to have a way to make folders at all, sadly it's not great - it's hidden way in the "All Software" section and not horribly visible. I just want a way to show more than 4 games at a time on the Home Screen and have folders there... please Nintendo... The way it was done on the 3DS was just perfect.
@stiligFox Nintendo says: “You’ll take what we give you and like it!”
Yeah, I don't like this implementation much either. We need to be able to access groups from the main menu, not from All Software.
Yay! Now bring back Badge Arcade so I can decorate said folders!
@ChromaticDracula too bad!!! I came up with it. I will use it.
People are begging for folders on Windows 11 too. What's wrong with companies these days? Are folders so hard to develop?
It's only 9 days until april fools day, and Nintendo already added folders?
@Ventilator and honestly the weirdest unpratical versions of them hidden multiple buttons presses away from the main screen :/
I've defended the Switch on a ton of thing because I love it but gosh I have no idea what's with their team in charge of UI.
Like... I love the home screen and it's chunky icons.
I just wish I could declutter it. Which... this doesn't. If anything it only add another layer of clutter since it's so many button presses away :/
5 years of no UI changes and they finally add folders in the most asinine way. It's entirely useless to me and takes too long to get to them, rendering it completely inconvenient.
Unbelievable. This almost feels like an insult from Nintendo responding to our requests
I SAW THIS ON INSTA AND I THOUGHT IT WAS SOME FAKE NINTENDO ACC HOLY CRAP
The folders are not in the default view, you need to press a series of buttons to get to the groups, which is just stupid. Nintendo can't do things properly like Sony or MS. Things like Bluetooth, voice chat, etc are handled in a way to frustrate users.
@John_Deacon I think it was more about offering folders in a stable way; they didn’t want to slow down the front end (because it’s so fast), so they must have figured that out
@Screen Mmm… pulpy!
@TheBigK Good call; great idea!
@Ludovsky Yeah. 3DS and Wii U could have over 10 folders on Home screen. Switch doesn't even have room for 6 icons on home screen.
Switch is as clunky Epic Game Store on PC.
Epic store icons is a joke. Even at 8K resolution you can still only have 12 huge icons on Screen.
My guess is that Epic made the clunky folders for Switch.
At this point i don't even care about folders on Switch anymore as there is too many games to sort.
I added one folder only for "Playing"..10 high priority games.
The folder system is so bad you have to memorize what you added in other folders. No thanks.
Yeah it is a little late time to organize
Took them long enough. Only FIVE years!! Better late than never, I guess? Geez, Nintendo...😅
Holy heck, finally I can make a folder after 5 years of waiting lol. Well, I'll make a Metroidvania folder, Nintendo Games folder, 2D Games folder and last, Retro Collection folder (for contra / castlevania / megaman zero collection, etc, games).
@StarPoint Or do we…..
Themes, Netflix, browser, stability joke…
(yes i know you were joking lol)
Okay it's late but where are the themes?
How difficult can it be to sort the icons on the Home Menu itself??? For God's sake, Nintendo... 🤦🏻♂️
Sweet! I'm gonna create a folder for each game!
I have always thought they would add folders not long before announcing the next console, didn't 3ds get folders close to the end of its life. Anyways you have an idea when they release the next console 5yrs for folders.
@Antraxx777
PS VITA and Wii U launched in 2012, and had folders on home screen.
Folders didn't slow down any of those consoles, so Nintendo is lying about Switch.
Yes, i know folders were sluggish on 3DS, but not Wii U and VITA.
Folders are a big plus, 5 years later, but I still want a way to manually sort what order the first row of software appears in.
A bit more hoop-jumpy than expected to set up, but great once it's actually done.
What would probably make it better is if groups could show at the top, while "all games" could show below. If I'm going through the trouble of organizing things, I'd like to get to my "folders" in as few steps as possible.
FINALLY!!! This is a massive relief for my library.
It felt unbelievably good to finally divide up all my games, my backlog now feels so much more achievable and enticing.
Am I the only person who saw the article title, and did a double take, clicked on it and then checked the date to make sure it wasn't April 1st?
Just tried it and I’m happy I have a way to organize my games now. That said, it’s a little lame that it’s not right on the main menu. You should really be able to have these groups/folders sitting in the menu and customize the order as you fit, not just by most recently played.
Even with over 500 games I have no use for folder/groups but I am happy for the folks that wanted it.
I'll be happy the day they give us more than just black and white themes
Folders/groups after 5 years? I’ll take it, thank you.
It would've been nice to have the "groups" appearing on the main screen but I'll take it.
@Moonlessky Yeah... I'm also using Bluetooth 5.1 headphones. When I tried to play games with them on Nintendo Switch, I was heavily disappointed. Sound was quite/silent, quality of sound was poor, and there was a big input lag. For example, playing rhythm-based/music games with these aforementioned problems is a special kind of torture.
Heck yeah! Folders are an amazing addition.
Yes!!!! This is the best update yet! It is the feature I have missed sooooo much from the 3ds.
Well this took forever, but it should radically change the way I organize my games.
I'm almost convinced that the launch of the Switch OLED was the true start for the Switch's lifecycle. Think about it: It was released one year after the PS5 and XSX. What also happened this year? Platinum Points actually have much more value now, and the Switch supports a feature they should've implemented 5 years ago. It's almost as if the Switch we saw in 2017 was a beta.
✅️"Folders"
@Serpo
I can definitely tell you right now that the Windows 11 complaints are fake. Windows 11 feels more or less like a simple reskin of Windows 10, with very few changes that are actually fundamental.
@ModdedInkling completely agree. I've been saying that the Switch OLED is what the og Switch should've been from the beginning.
So freaking STABLE!!!!!! TY Nintendo!!!
Folders finally, now to further slow down the UI Nintendo needs to add themes.
Omg thank you. This was so badly needed and honestly the lack of it stoped me from buying more games on the platform.
Folder are so „last gen“. I prefer the PS5 library menu more. Just give me good sorting and filtering options, Nintendo.
Actual useful update. Folders and Bluetooth headphones improvements
I guess the “improved stability” guy was sick.
@Piyo
PS5 organization is a mess. It doesn’t even have folders either unlike PS4
I'm not gonna use it, not what I thought it would be, not on the main menu. /fail
I am glad they add a way to organize software that was used in the 90s. I would have liked to see a meta sorting system which could be more flexible.
This is gonna be really useful, especially since games can be in multiple groups
My god, it's beautiful.
folders...folders ?? ... FOOOOLDERSSSS !!!!
I'm sure many people will appreciate the software groups. Personally, I'd much have preferred the ability to manually sort the All Software screen. ^^
Sound great the the bluetooth audio options are being beefed up though, I'll have a look at that.
Well, looks like folk can finally spend hours sorting their games out on Switch instead of playing them lol. Personally it's a cba from me and glad it's not on the home screen, but happy for folk who were going insane over it
I know gamers hate pushing buttons but if you just hit left, A, L it takes you right there in less than a second. But I get it, I'm sure people could use that half a second to do other more important things. Life is so hard.
Now just something of a gaming profile to show off your credentials. Not necessarily achievements, but something. Miiverse was something! Right now we have nothing.
Folders are pointless, all Nintendo needs to do is have a decent search function added to the main menu, and ensure each game has good quality searchable metadata. E.g., search by name, by installed, by publisher, by genre, etc.
It's kind of sad how excited I get over folders when it should have been a Day 1 feature.
I'm loving the folders. I've already made a few - Arcade - Shmup's - 90's style FPS - SEGA AGES - and I'll make use of them for sure. I'm going to make a backlog folder too, which I hope will decrease in size rather than grow. For me, the folders have been implemented correctly and in pretty much the same way I hoped they would be.
I'd wager that themes will be the next addition and will be linked to the NSO subscription, in the same way the new icons are.
Sweet. I can now create my own VC
@Croz You can already filter them by name, publisher, length of time played. Also 'Downloaded software' has been added, as well as 'Shortest time played'. It's getting there.
Folders are certainly not pointless for those with huge libraries. I have over 100 shmups alone and I've wanted to group them all together for so long. Not just for convenience but to marvel at too haha
@Kiwi_Unlimited "About d***** time!" Doodoo? Donkey?? Durian??? For some reason I can't seem to figure out what goes in those asterisks.
Oh wait... I think I finally figured it out, and I feel both dumb and disappointed. It was more fun as a mystery.
Fantastic addition, though I'd like to be able to automatically sort alphabetically and make the group view as default for home screen
Put majors mask back on that game is amazing and has so much you have too do add donkey Kong 64 would be amazing.
So far : unfinished , finished, Pokémon, Mario , 5 stars games
God bless folders
You have got to be kidding me. They actually added folders! I didn't think they had it in them honestly. I'm gonna go organise all of my NSO apps into a folder there once I update!
@BabyYoda71
These groups are a little different (better) than folders. They are some kind of tags, so you can have the same game in different groups. Eg you could put Republic Command in a FPS group at the same time with a Star Wars group, with folders you would have to decide which one to choose
These groups are in a way a lot better than folders. For example, I'd like to have a folder/group for metroidvanias, platformers and Indies. With folders (the way they worked on 3DS/Wii U) I could only put Hollow Knight in one of them, but with groups I can put it in all of them.
It's not on the home screen. So whats the point then?
About time they fixed that volume cap!
Custom backgrounds would be nice...
@HalBailman this. I've never understood WHY people want folders so badly. I can maybe sorta see it as a meh, distant desire, but the way ppl are...were...so adamantly vocal about it made me wonder just how these people play games exactly. It's not like they're all installed in different hidden places and gotta easter egg your new and old titles. I can't even really find any reason to use this feature, now that it's here and I considered using it...it felt like a blah task and waste of time.
Am I the only one thinking these kinds of folder ain't it?
My homescreen and "all software" tab are still cluttered. I was hoping that when you put a game in a folder. It's only available there so you actually clean up the home screen.
This doesn't quite cut it for me.
I will use groups, I will tap to open, to close, store stuff ....
but .... it will take another year until my brain fully realizes that they are actually THERE.
@DioBrando The 200 limit means I'll need two groups for my 'unplayed games', it's nowhere near enough.
@DK-Fan Same here.
I thought I was missing something.
The Folders are POINTLESS if I STILL have to scroll all the way right/left to get to said screen.
The Folders should be on the Home Screen! 😕😕😕
@MeloMan Yep!
It was too good to be true.
@Dizavid I have hundreds of games. Being able to organise those into categories such as 'completed', 'played and bailed', 'unplayed', 'cheap random buys', 'priority unplayed' etc will make deciding what to play much easier. I like to play just one or two games at a time to completion (or until I decide it isn't for me), and I've often started a 'lesser' game forgetting I had something potentially more interesting way down the list.
@Serpo Clicky folders is hard to make.
Like half baked folders, not real ones.
If even the 3DS and PS Vita have these, is it that hard to copy paste that to the Switch Nintendo?
I don't use folders so I am fine, but my point is do your job properly or don't bother.
man, just realized you have to browse to the folders; jesus please fire that UX-guy, he's just not worth it.
I've been waiting so long I had definitely lost hope of this ever happening. But it's real! Made about 10 groups last night!
Nintendo must be feeling the heat of competition, or they’ve realised if they want to keep the Switch around for another 5 years then it’s going to have to evolve a little
Awesome!
But you'll still have fools complaining about something.
Hurrah!
actually goes and makes folders, doesn't see them appear in the All Software section
Hurroo....
Finally!
Hopefully we don't take a step back for online features when the Switch successor eventually comes out.
As someone who never craved folders on Switch, I'm a lot more appreciative of other tweaks like filtering by "downloaded software" (albeit so literally that this filter excludes the physical game slot as well😅😆). Yet in the not unusual irony, the complainers' new target may well actually motivate me to use this feature in their stead - I never entertained the idea of having folders share the library menu space with separate games (it's tolerable on 3DS where you can space the items out but Switch menu is closer to PS4's in this regard), but having a separate on-demand submenu of different custom collections, allowing the same item in multiple groups to boot, actually feels pretty handy!
I might even take the time to go for my common habit of alphabet folders (provided they won't get eventually overflowed - a 200 items limit doesn't sound like too much when your library is closing in on 1000; my rom collection experience testifies that letters like M and S can get particularly "gluttonous"😄), since that would allow me to navigate this listing in line with my go-to collection app's "omit articles" policy and full names like, for instance, "Elder Scrolls: Blades" instead of just "Blades" that always ends up in the vicinity of Bloodstained against intuitive expectations. And compiling the single screen multiplayer titles together for friend hangouts can be useful, too.
@TheBigK
Times that number by 100 and make them all digital and that's my collection lol
That lone Nintendo engineer finally ticked off "folders" from his to-do list. I'm happy for him, and I'm happy for all of us too.
I'll give him a couple weeks off before I start pestering him for on system party and chat.
They finally added "folders", because the switch is probably not going to be supported anymore and are starting on the next console lol.
Also, they are stubborn. Why can't they call them folders, why do they have to be called Groups eye roll
But these are not folders, they are metatags.
So all the people jumping for joy for folders - there is still room to complain.
Oh my god how the hell did I miss this news! It took them forever, but there listening! Time to finally put all my indie games where they belong!
Finally!
I saw this article in my Google feed and was going to just ignore it thinking it'd just be another stability update, I'm glad I clicked on it afterall.
Now, hopefully we don't have to wait that long for the PS5 to get folders. 😑
who would have guessed folders took 5 years to develope
Why don’t they have this feature at launch? Seriously. It was a late update on Wii, 3DS, and Wii U. It’s comical.
Ah actually better than folders, since you can put a game in more than one group!
@KasperDG They don't call them folders, because groups do not function like folders in most devices. For example, on 3DS/Wii U, you could move a game to a folder and it would not be visible anywhere else. However, a game that is in a group on Switch is still visible in home menu.
So these groups aren't really for "cleaning" the home menu. However, a game can belong to many groups, making these useful for filtering games according to your own rules.
@LUIGITORNADO,
Better late than never.
@NintendoEternity,
Yes people moaning on every single update article demanding folders, now they get them and they complain that they were not there from the beginning.
I mean this is a welcome addition, but surely a solution to a minor problem a best.
I'm not sure we should congratulate Nintendo for taking the majority of the lifecycle of the Switch to give us one of the most requested features from the start. But hey ho - thanks all the same.
Its seems to be very robustly implemented too - so it seems they must have been working non-stop on this for those 5 year
However, I think one important tweak is needed. The point of groups/tags/folders is the find and get to the games quicker - so why on earth not make it a one click (L Button) access to groups from the Home Screen?. ATM you need to go into All Software to then transition to Groups. Pretty obvious improvement to make there. Lets see how many years that takes
Ehmmm... this is not folders. They don't appear in "Games" nor in "all Games". You have to scroll to all games and then press an extra button. Like someone else above said: It's tagging.
Don't expect you can clean up your "desktop" with the new feature. It's half baked rubbish as it is.
@Coxula sigh... yeah. While I wasn't screaming out for folders, I'd actually like the ability to manually sort my games (so things like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest will be in their proper order, ditto "Mario/Super Mario"), and Groups lets you do that... but only within the groups themselves.
So close, Nintendo. So close...
I was all excited to tidy up my home screen, but they made it awkward to see the groups, going into all software, then groups, it's not worth the bother
I dunno if anyone else has the same mindset, but I think having more control over items in ones library would actually boost sales for Nintendo — think about it; let's say you've created a folder for a series of games, but... oh, what's this? You're missing an entry in the series? It's only £6.25 on the eShop, you say? Oh go on then...
Come on, Nintendo, we know you like money! And many people love to digitally hoard/collect.
@Gwynbleidd Woah, let's not get crazy!
I made groups for Zelda titles, Mega Man Titles, and even a group titled "Sam & Max's most baffling cases." I welcome this u o date.
@Gwynbleidd Flexibility! That's the word I was looking for!
Yeah, Groups does feel like an odd addition to add on its own, and I'm genuinely curious to know how Nintendo acknowledge user feedback and requests like this.
Oh my god. They finally add folders except not really. Putting them in a sub-menu of a sub-menu kind of mitigates their convenience.
Um. It does not affect the main menu at all. Groups can be viewed only in the library... Come on, Nintendo
@C3dr4c I think it's better that way, you can add any game to several folders instead of just one.
@Savage_Joe
Yeah, everything about it just feels like what launch day should've been, especially with that kickstand.
@BTB20 "I think it's better that way, you can add any game to several folders instead of just one."
Ehmmm... in a perfect word you can have folders AND tagging combined. Hot ***** - I know.
The way it's implemented it doesn't help at all. So: Let's assume Nintendo doesn't have the skills to implement folders, so just let us set the games library to default view for the console and give us the freedom to sort the icons.
So next update should have the option to default to the group's screen. Then it's perfect
@iLikeUrAttitude I've not snorted this much at a comment in a while. +1 like!
Also, nice! I like the way the groups are implemented as it keeps the landing page of the OS nice and clean while also integrating groups into an easily accessed way. Good job Nintendo!
From the way people are talking about this, Nintendo should have announced it at E3 as their “one more thing”
@johnvboy you’d think 4 consoles deep it’d be a feature out of the gate.
@kurtasbestos
Lol. Couldn't remember what they censored here, and just thought I'd be proactive and nice about it.
However, y**r way w**** have been much more fun than it o********* was.
@JakedaArbok
Everyone's been begging for this since the beginning. It really should have been a much bigger announcement.
(Falls off chair in shock)
Pretty suspicious timing, with the 3DS and Wii U shops beginning their shutdown tomorrow...
Edit: I'm dumb, never mind.
@vanYth I noticed that too, and I love it. The one thing I do remember about folders was being mad a game could only be in one of them. It never really mattered, because I only had a couple digital games, but I have a lot more on Switch. You can also put physical games in them, so these are a lot better in my opinion!
@Leuke …do they? I thought it wasn’t until May….
EDIT: Googled it, you can add funds through a credit card until May, that’s the first thing that shuts down. Nothing happens tomorrow.
Ok the ability to adjust bluetooth volume without having to get up for someone like me who uses AirPods is nice
@BabyYoda71 Oh, I had March 23 in my head for some reason. Well, I stand corrected. Thank you!
@ModdedInkling You're spot on. Stood out like a sore thumb. Especially the kickstand. I do believe it was and is a prototype console/was released before ready.
@NintendoEternity Because there's still dozens of things Nintendo needs to add and fix
Fun fact ;
About 300 million people have died in those 5 years it took Nintendo to fix this.
OMG, this will take me some time to really categorize and sort all my games...but I'm up to the challenge, especially since games can be in multiple groups
@LUIGITORNADO,
Not all that fussed if it has it or not, but nice for those who want it.
@DennisNOR,
Question is, did they die because of the lack of folders on the Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo can't even implement folders right! If I have to go to my full list of games, hit a button, and then choose the folder I want; my interface is not cleaned up and I have not saved any time! Like they're nice I guess, but functionally kind of useless for me.
Nice direction but it took so long. The only thing keeping Nintendo afloat is kids and Nintendo's main titles. They seem to be at a loss as to how online gaming works. No messaging, still using friend codes *yuck, no real good multiplayer games at that. 😩
*I'm just now seeing that these"folders" are down at the end..... Jeeeebus Nintendo.
@MsJubilee I wouldn't hold my.breath for messaging. Nintendo is still soooo far stuck in the past for this. Maybe in 10 years
About ducking time. but if in 2-3 more years the Switch 2 is out, then we'll have to wait another 5 years for folders to be added
I wish you could pin the folders to the home screen. Maybe in a future update?
@tsukipon Nintendo did it for the Wiiu. I can't see why they can't do it again.
@MsJubilee it took them this long to add folders and we still don't have themes which were on the 3DS. And they deleted miiverse and that note(?) app. Idk, I'm not hopeful. Even if did give it to us, I'm sure it would be convoluted as hell. Better of getting discord.
Wow. A whole major 1.0 level update - that provides... folders. Yawn.
Now all we need is PC software migration system. Did I miss anything.
It only took 5 years!
Now the only thing left to complement are Themes. But I wonder if the memory usage is holding them back...
Incoming organisation nerd comment: The 'groups' feature provides the perfect opportunity to set up your Switch like a Kanban board. A group for 'Ready', a group for 'Doing', and a group for 'Done'. I suppose online multiplayer games would live perpetually in the 'Doing' group.
Waiting to see the person who…
Let’s see…
100 X 200 equals…
Ah, yes. Let’s see who owns 20,000 Switch games. I’ll wait right here.
