Development at Universal Studios Hollywood's Super Nintendo World has been going pretty smoothly, and the park is still slated for an early 2023 opening. And today, we've been given a look at one of the Nintendo-themed rides coming to the park.
Of course, you can't have a Nintendo theme park without a Mario Kart ride, and the first ride will be just that! Mario Kart: Bowser's Challenge will be an augmented-reality kart racing game where you sit in a four-seater Mario Kart vehicle and race around a moving track. You'll see other racers like Yoshi, Peach, Toad, Bowser, and even some of the Koopa Kids as you try and compete for the trophy!
Universal Studios Hollywood had this to share about the ride on its official website:
Ready to experience Mario Kart like never before? Put on the special goggles and battle Team Bowser on iconic Mario Kart courses alongside Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach. Collect coins and throw shells to win the Golden Cup on the world’s first interactive Mario Kart ride with cutting-edge technology at SUPER NINTENDO WORLD™. Opens early 2023.
Some brief footage of the ride gives you a pretty good idea of what to expect — not a real go-karting race, perhaps, but you can at least ride past some Chain Chomps, Pirhana Plants, and through what looks like Bowser's Castle. Check it out below!
Will you be booking tickets to Super Nintendo World in Hollywood when it opens next year? Let us know!

@PBandSmelly Guiltyyy (it was very wordy!)
Only interested if I can throw bananas around when riding it
So my wife recently had a distant great aunt die and leave some thousands to her. And so we are planning a trip to America and I am trying to convince her California! But I wish they would built thr Florida Nintendo World first!
I’d really like to visit but given how expensive theme parks are I doubt I will anytime soon.
Yeah, guess this is the best aproach for this ride, I can imagine the huge complains about playing in real go-karts while other drivers throw random stuff at you (but it could be really fun!)
After my recent family vacation in February to Florida, I'm done with amusement parks for a couple years. I'm sure the ride will be awesome but have fun waiting in a two hour line only to be told the ride is down for repairs. No thank you! I'll stick with the game for now.
Yeah, this looks like the ride they have in Japan. At least you can throw items, lol. Would love to do the VR MARIO KART they have at the Namco-Bandai arcade.
Dang wish they had more than Mario. I would kill for Earthbound I mean it’s called NINTENDO not MARIO!
@SwitchplayerJohn I don't know whether to offer my condolences or congratulate you...
@SwitchplayerJohn cali is great, but I’d also recommend Utah! Loads of nature and things to do, also fairly affordable for the most part.
@SwitchplayerJohn lol did we need the whole story?
Now this is podracing!
Wow that's a long-legged Mario in the pic, lol!
@Clyde_Radcliffe Have you no taste? Everyone knows the green shell is the way to go, it’s worse then bananas or blue!
The Mario kart attractions in Japan were better
Thats nice, it feels like there should be a Mario go kart racing at this park.
