Australian indie developer Jerrel Dulay has announced that he's bringing seven new titles to the Wii U and 3DS eShops this year – despite the fact that Nintendo is closing the digital storefronts for the two systems.
In a press release, Dulay states that the move was in response to the news of the closure, and "significant fan demand" for the games.
Here's Dulay's statement:
We have announced 7 new titles to launch exclusive on Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. What!? Why!? In response to Nintendo’s recent announcement of the end of eShop sales for Wii U and 3DS, and as a result of significant fan demand, we are bringing 7 final games to these consoles. Most of these titles were games we had in development for the Wii U and 3DS already, but either moved main development to the Switch or cancelled entirely. After some discussion with Nintendo, we organized bringing these titles back to the Wii U and 3DS as a way to celebrate those consoles and the eShop.
The seven games are:
- Silver Falls – White Inside Its Umbra (Wii U)
- Silver Falls – Gaiden (Wii U)
- Silver Falls – Undertakers (Wii U)
- Silver Falls – Guardians And Metal Exterminators (3DS)
- Silver Falls – Ghoul Busters (3DS)
- Silver Falls – Vicarious Brothers (3DS)
- Silver Falls – Gaiden Deathly Delusion Destroyers (3DS)
White Inside Its Umbra was shown off earlier this year and seeks to include Wii Balance Board support.
The Silver Falls series all take place within the same fictional town. There's no solid release date (or pricing) for these games as yet, but Dulay states that the first should be released in Q2 2022.

I doubt they will accept them. Don't see why they should with the store closing so close to these games
That's a whole lot of Silver Falls.
Never heard of Silver Falls. And to be honest, I'd rather play games on Switch than 3DS or Wii U, celebration or not.
7? Simultaneously? Impressive! Go for it!
Seems really unwise... not just for the obvious reason, but also people are trying to clear out their backlist. No way do I want to add a new game to the shopping list right now 😂
Good for him! I'm glad the 3DS and Wii U are still getting some appreciation. I just wish their eShops didn't have to close so soon.
The 3DS could very well be a case of Final Fantasy 11 going into maintenance mode - and then suddenly surge in updates and new content due to renewed interest. Then again, Nintendo had the ability to make new products and service while SE just...you know...SEs.
Removed - unconstructive; user is banned
But..... why? Why not just release these on the Switch?
Kind of shades that dude who had been working on a 3DS game for like five years and claimed that Nintendo killed his dream.
This confuse me so SO much.
Are these ports? Cause else it would mean they are literally making 7 games in place of 1!
That can just raise some serious doubts on the games' quality...
@Radbot42
They will accept them, the guy has all of them cleared with Nintendo legal. He's shipping them in a playable stat this month, then pushing updates after.
@BakaKnight
These are not ports. He released "Three Down Stars" (get it?) several years ago on 3DS and has updated it (and continues to update it) in response to player input. Even if it ships in a middling state, he's demonstrated a distinct desire to provide a quality experience in the end.
@Starpoint
Because there are things the Wii U/3DS can do that the Switch cannot, and because it is fun. He also has a Switch game.
Don't be crabs in a bucket folks, just let this guy have his fun.
The first silver falls game showed promise but the second was unrelated bad pixel art. I hope some of these are actually good.
I'll buy least of one too. I hope that NL give a homage in form of video.
@Leuke The publicity he's getting for doing it may lead to him getting more sales than he otherwise would have got in the past, or even on the Switch Eshop.
I have 3 Down Stars and its really good for an indie game. There's also an 8 bit game he released so far. I will try to buy all of these because it's a cool little series.
Good for them, I say!
I respected the 3ds one, as I would have wanted to see more original 3d 'horror' or at least thriller games, after the near perfect (on 3ds) RE Revelations. That Dementium 2 remake and Cult County were cancelled was seriously not appreciated by me, but I don't think 'the world' cared as much as I did. As is often the case, on many subjects far beyond some small video game releases.
cheesus don't mind the naysayers and go for it. I mean sure he won't get rich, but would that be different 6 yrs ago? Back then it would have had to compete. Now its a dedicated newsheadline and some might just jump on that boat for fun.
Plus Silver Falls looks as WiiU as it gets.
Maybe he had these unfinished projects lying around and when Nintendo announced to close the whole thing, whe quickly finished everything up.
Anyways, its a funny thing.
@OorWullie True! Best of luck to him for sure.
His main reason for this is most likely that Wii U developers, and there were a lot of them, have yet to be granted access to the Switch development tools just because they developed for the Wii U. Nintendo seems to have gone back to their old stringent, for the better (maybe), developer acceptance policies. Since he is already an approved Wii U developer he is really working hard to try and make it, so that maybe Nintendo will allow him a switch developer agreement and he can make some money to continue his passion... at least that is the way it seems to me. Best of luck to the fella!
@Kainbrightside There is very little nostalgia for the Wii U.
What a waste though, by the end of March 2022 we won't even be able to add funds to our 3DS and Wii U eShop account anymore. How are we gonna be able to download these games? All purchase download privilege will be disable after September 2022 and by March of 2023 we won't be able to re-download games either. If he does plan to bring these to 3DS and Wii U, his best chance is either take the repro route or just port these to Switch.
@Kainbrightside I, like you, got the Wii U on released day and loved it. But I don't think that there is the level of nostalgia for the Wii U like there is for the NES, SNES, etc. I would have loved to see the console thrive, but I still firmly believe that the naming convention for it killed it before it's release.
I don't think these will sell tbh but a nice gesture nevertheless.
@Unit_DTH
He already has released a Switch game in his 'Silver Falls' series.
@Specter_of-the_OLED
You have this wrong.
Purchases can be made up to March 2023. Credit Card disabled May 2022, eShop cards end in August or so, but even then, as long as your Switch/3DS balances are linked, you can add funds on your Switch and spend them on Wii U/3DS right until March 2023. Following that you can still redownload software.
@KoopaTheGamer There is one silver falls game on switch already. I enjoy the games they released. I helped Jerrel locate some bugs in the first 3DS game. They show a lot of potential so I have been supporting their releases.
I just imagine the quality of seven rushed games….
I already gave this guy my word that I would buy these games. At least on the 3DS.
@nukatha That's Great!
Completely absurd...just dump them on Switch.
How much time do we still have til the payment system is blocked?
Some people are just plain dumb.
@BlackenedHalo
Right up until the end in March 2023, you can add funds on Switch and spend them on 3DS/Wii U, as long as your account balance is merged.
Good for him! I don't want the 3DS to die! I would definitely still buy new games for it.
Reminds me of how the Homestar Runner guys added the years-awaited final level of their Stinkoman game literally less than a month before Adobe Flash officially died, haha; props to this guy and I hope these games are at least a moderate success for him.
(Hopefully they're also, y'know, good games!)
@Shambo I cared a LOT about Dementium 2 remake and Cult County! I’m so livid about them not happening that I won’t support that dev ever again. Dementium 2 in particular was my fav handheld FPS until the switch rewrote the playbook. Lol
jeesus, never thought i'd see a bunch of nintendo fans so violently against a bit of fun
@Unit_DTH well, part of that is also the amount of time between console release and the now, most of the consoles people are nostalgic for now are like 15-40 years old, the wii u is just almost at 10 years now
@Radbot42 lol you have no idea what's coming soon so!
@Unit_DTH he already is a switch developer as he has Silver Falls - Episode Prelude released - the Prequel story to Silver Falls- 3 Down Stars on New 3DS. The visuals on his switch title are fantastic to look at. A really fun game too!!
@Radbot42 "After some discussion with Nintendo, we organized bringing these titles back to the Wii U and 3DS as a way to celebrate those consoles and the eShop."
Sounds like he already convinced them.
@Unit_DTH Speak for yourself! While there's no doubt there's a wider selection on the Switch, in terms of hardware I prefer the Wii U.
Unfortunately the last date to send submissions in is March 31st as it closes April 1st.
@BongoBongo123 same here
Dedication or pure insanity, not sure which.
@AG_Awesome I still think it's one of the best DS games and I went through great lengths to get a copy back then (it was easier to import a US copy than to get a European one, which I didn't even know existed at the time, and the first Dementium game I looked for everywhere, and one day after having given up, I found ONE copy of it in ONE store, the same store where I later found the ONE copy of Moon, and I still have those), but even back when I met more people, even based on our mutual interest in games, I never met anyone who even knew the series.
I think their studio should hire someone with expertise in this thing called "business".
@somebread You haven't read the comment section of any article with the word mobile in it, have you? It's literal pitchforks and torches against fun. Hell most comments crapped on the new Octopath mobile game without even trying it to see how great it is due to "mobile". Very odd since, ya know, switch is switch is just a large mobile.
@Henmii
Not possible. The games all rely heavily on the second screen. 'Vicarious Brothers' is made to look like a virtual boy game, hence being on 3DS. 'White Inside Its Umbra' uses the GamePad/Wiimote/Balance Board for control, you can't do that on Switch.
I love this developer, and his Silver Falls series. These games will be ridiculously hard to find on systems in the future, so I can't pre-emptively recommend these enough, despite not knowing anything about them.
@Dogorilla I'm buying some games on 3DS that are not that easy to get elsewhere or that are on platforms that are not dedicated gaming machines (mobile phones).
For instance, Castlevania: Vampire's Kiss is part of the Castlevania Advanced collection on Switch. But I'm not a fan of those GBA Metroidvanias. I like the Arcadevanias better. So my only option is to buy Vampire's Kiss on 3DS.
@Specter_of-the_OLED "after September 2022 and by March of 2023 we won't be able to re-download games either"
Stop spewing out false information. If you own a digital game on 3DS/2DS you will be able to re-download them again well after the eShop closes down. Redownloads are NOT being disabled any time soon.
There's a Silver Falls game on my Switch wìshlist.....I think!
@KoopaTheGamer The developer said in a stream last night that he would probably bring them Switchward, but he originally started creating them for these platforms and they fell into development purgatory-so he wanted to finish them up. Since time was running out, he had to make these versions his priority. Gotta say though, wouldn't expect Wii Balance Board support if Umbra does come Switchward.
@Burning_Spear Oh, Bob's game? Naw, I don't get this vibe from this guy. From how he talks in his videos he really just loves making games and wanted people to experience some extra Lil nuggets on these beloved consoles before the closure. He even offered me download codes for free copies because I said my money was tight right now in a comment.
I agree with everyones points like "It probably wont get through" and "People are trying to clear their backlogs", stuff like that. But honestly, I admire his dedication. Mans said "Screw it, I'mma make one of those" and I respect that.
@SirPrimalform I do as well, at least it was made more sturdy than the joycons.
@nukatha
Then they better rework all their stuff, because releasing it so close to the end is totally pointless.
@Henmii
"People can only have fun on my terms" -Henmii
@nukatha
Lol.
