High kicks! Lasers! Floating skulls! A...eh...a guy with a paper bag on his head! AKI's Demoniaca: Everlasting Night, which originally released on PC back in September of 2019 has finally been ported to consoles by eastasiasoft and it hits Switch on 12th January, A.K.A today!
This dark and dingy Gothic metroidvania sees you kick and punch the absolute bejeezus out of hordes of spooky looking enemies as you scale the Tower of Babel in an effort to seek revenge against those who've brought you unbearable pain and suffering. So, a typical Wednesday then.
The game's official press blurb fills in a few more details on what this one's all about;
"Gothic “metroidvania” adventure awaits in Demoniaca: Everlasting Night, a side-scrolling action platformer that mixes beautifully grotesque imagery with seductive style.
As you journey through the dreadful and corrupted Tower of Babel, you’ll uncover its many dangerous secrets, challenge powerful lords and slay hordes of their minions. Immerse yourself in fluid real-time combat that’s easy to learn but challenging to master. Gain access to new areas in and around the tower as you progress and upgrade abilities. But what end could await one filled with such anger and despair?"
We're big fans of the Metroidvania genre here at Nintendo Life, we love a bit of Castlevania, are huge admirers of the Gothic movement and absolute suckers for a bit of high-kicking action, so we're looking forward to getting our hands on this one in the very near future.
Demoniaca: Everlasting Night is currently enjoying a 20% launch discount and will set you back $14.99/€14.99/£10.79 on the Switch eShop.
Will you be exacting sweet revenge by knocking the stuffing out of everything that moves in the Tower of Babel? Let us know in the comments!

Im really getting over all these 16-bit Metroidvanias. Too many to count in recent years.
Triggered flashbacks of the last eastasiasoft article with the waifu pillow video.
The game looks serviceable, but Steam reviews for this aren't really glowing. Here's hoping they have since addressed some of the complaints since it launched there!
Here’s hoping for an NL review on this one.
Combat animations look Fatal Fury inspired. Not a bad thing!
Thought it looked great in the screen shots, but after watching the trailer, not so much. A lot of the animation, both enemies and the play character, look really off. Will definitely have to wait and see on reviews.
I'm loving all these Metroidvania games on Switch.
I get that others are over them but I don't like kart racing, jrpg's or other genres.
We all like different genres that's what makes Switch such a great console.
It has plenty of games catering to everyone's different tastes, except maybe some F Zero, Waverace, Pilotwings or 1080.
We could all do with some more of those.
The trailer made it look decent, but gameplay videos I checked out show it to be too repetitive and bland. I'll pass.
What's that shaking on her chest? in that pixel art glory😄

That's why you should wear safety goggles when motorboating.
Looks clunky, derivative of better games and unambitious.
I took a chance on it. I'd say it's about a 5/6 out of ten. It works, but the jumping and combat are really clunky. There's no real tactics or strategy to the combat; blocking is useless because by the time you let go of it to attack, you're already getting hit. So I just mash buttons and hope for the best...seems to work.
The music is nice and the character moves quickly enough. Once you get used to the odd controls, it's not so bad. I've played worse. I really wish they would have just used one or two buttons for attacking--really didn't need four face buttons for all that when two with added directions would have done the trick. Jumping with ZR and accessing inventory with R is just weird, especially while the minus button goes unused. It needs the option to remap the buttons...
That being said, for some reason or another I find it engaging enough. Definitely won't win any awards but I wasn't bored so far. And it's got a little sex appeal, always a plus.
