Publisher Mediascape has announced the release of 2D action title Super Zangyura for the west; and the really good news is that it's out now!
The action shares more than a few similarities with Konami's Castlevania, but with a lot more madcap humour thrown in.
Originally released back on June 10th, 2021 in Japan, the game is a modern realisation of the 2004 title Zangyura.
Here's some PR:
An incredible evil threatens the world once again! The fearless Maid, morning star in hand, marches ever rightwards through the ancient castle! Obliterating the weird and/or ghoulish foes blocking her path to the deepest chambers, what she finds waiting for her must be seen to be believed!
Originally released in 2004, Zangyura‘s unique blend of puzzles and action has returned as a modernized remaster, Super Zangyura. The music and visuals have been overhauled, but the simple yet satisfying old-school action has been kept intact!
Will you be picking up Super Zangyura now that it's out? Let us know in the comments!

Had me at the Peeing Boy of Brussels.
I saw this on the eShop last night and thought nothing of it. It looks... fine? I'm glad it exists, but it's also nothing that hasn't been seen before either, you know?
@CharlieGirl I feel that. So many 2D indie games that it's hard for me to justify buying more.
Nice! This game looks really good.
This one did catch my eye when I was browsing the eShop recently. I like games like Momodora, and this doesn't seem too far off from that kind of thing.
Zangetsu, Zangurya...stop with the Z's. - lifelong Castlevania fan
Ah yes, the never ending quest of the japanese in releasing every type of game imaginable, but with school girls dressed in french maid outfits.
@HIGHscores85
The original version of this game predates the Bloodstained series by over a decade.

I knew this game felt like a Japanese Windows homebrew game, because it quite literally is! There's a lot of hallmarks to these kinds of games like the tilesets and use of large blocks, the sound effects, and a minimal UI design.
Sooo many Castlevania-like games out there. On topic, this looks good. But I'm not much into these types. Well...except for Sega's "Master of Darkness" on the Sega Master System.
I hope one day Sega can release that game on the eShop. It was fun actually.
Mentions old school Castlevania: Rapt attention
Watches trailer: Hype gone
Can we just talk about the article thumbnail?
You had my attention at Castlevania.
I might get it once there's a generous sale.
Nothing can tear me away from Elden Ring! LOL
NINJA APPROVED
@Chunkboi79 @CharlieGirl - Pixel fatigue be real as of late.
@BloodNinja rings true
Infernax! You want “castlevania”? Get Infernax!
It looks nice, but it didn't grab me.
Looks interesting, but I'm going to need a NLife review.
my only real issue is the character sprite feels too big in comparison to her surroundings (similar problem megaman 7 had at times) but that's more a symptom of what @RupeeClock mentioned
Looks dope! Like a lost 16-bit era Castlevania meets Valis clone. Will keep an eye out for a sale.
This game is incredible, you can switch the soundtrack to a chiptune arrange that sounds like Castlevania III which is a good thing. There's button mapping in the options menu, and a shopkeeper at the title screen who sells upgrades and does a pose of a certain "Bizarre" variety. Holding attack and pressing up gives you long range, and the helicopter spin deflects some fireballs and slows your descent. She even has the wind-up motion before she lashes out the Morning Star.
Classic Castlevania fans, don't sleep on this one they made this game for us!
@Jacoby I agree, Infernax is great!
Platine Dispositif has a great pedigree with games like Gundemonium, Bunny Must Die and Hitogata Happa, so I have faith this is going to be good.
