I do like patches, but with Sakurai, specifically, I'm a -little- wary. I loved smash bros melee. I'm not here to fight about which smash bros is best, but for me, wavedashing was king.
Given that it was sort of an unintended consequence of the mechanics, and that it had never returned to smash bros, I can't help but think it would've gotten patched out of melee, given the chance.
In other games, occasionally things/exploits like that appear, and then get patches out once everyone starts being aware of them.
Uh oh! Where's nintendo's legal team with the ban hammer and impending lawsuit!?
Use of their assets without permission, giving them free advertising and bringing a sense of fun to things. . . This must end now before someone smiles at a Nintendo property outside of nintendo's control!!
So you don't feel that owning something gives you the right to modify it?
All previous generations of Americans thrived off a culture that they could do with their toy/tool/house as they wished, with the understanding that they might void a warranty.
Why should games that they've purchased be any different?
True, but as a gamer (vs a marketer or industry insider, etcetera), I kind of hate it.
Game presentation conventions like e3 used to be these exciting, almost Christmas-like moments for gamers. When nintendo pulls out of these events to do only virtual showcases, it removes power from the convention. Further, personally, the virtual announcements just never seem as exciting to me.
I wish nintendo would still be part of the culture, but it feels more and more like they're retracting into themselves.
Side note: anyone who prefers this, I'm not challenging your preferences. I just prefer/miss the large game gatherings for announcements.
Edit:
In all honesty, though, you're kind of right. Usually I sit around going, "I hope this year they finally update their formula, blah, blah, blah."
Now I see this article and think, "That's cool. I have pal world. Pokemon can do whatever. "
I think I've gained a new chill with pokemon company's decisions, mostly because I don't feel like my monster collecting happiness is dependent on them anymore.
I think it's funny that all the commenters immediately get ogre battle vibes, but the previewer doesn't mention it once. They mention final fantasy, but skip over what seems like the most obviously similar game.
Anyway, I can't wait. I loved Ogre Battle 64 (and enjoyed the orig ogre battle) so I'm super psyched!!
The crazy part is that when super mario 64 first came out, the levels seemed so expansive to me. It was truly something amazing to explore every corner of.
Now, I see the levels as almost 3d displays. They seem so small in retrospect.
But holy cow, when it first came out, it truly was revolutionary.
Perhaps the designs are, but given how different the gameplay is, I have trouble calling it a ripoff.
It's gameplay is very different from any of the monster collector games, and very well fleshed out.
The scary thing is that, if I didn't know pokemon's longstanding legacy, I'm not sure I'd know which was the"legitimate" game. In some ways, I feel like palworld is the more well done game.
There's no subscription. If you like survival games, this one is fantastic.
I've been playing it on steam, so I don't know if it's on Xbox, but if it is, I'd highly recommend it.
When i started it, for the first half hour/ first hour, I was a little worried. It felt like just another survival game. But once you get your first base up even a little bit, and get some pals running around, it all suddenly falls into place.
Unlike in conan exiles where your thralls seem lifeless and animatronic, for example, in pal world, they get moving and are smart enough to generally do what they're best at without additional commands. Put in a work order for more arrows. . . They'll make them for you. If they have a communal food bowl, fields, and the right pals to care for said fields, they'll keep themselves fed.
The whole thing just works with little micro managing.
And somehow, it's still early access. I have no idea where they're planning to go with the game, but i'm in for the ride.

How has it been 33 years if it started in 1993?
Did I misunderstand that sentence somehow?
Shouldn't it be 31?

Maybe sometimes, that's not for the best.

I absolutely agree. I felt I could make an argument for then or now, but was curious to get more of a basis for the comment.

For context, do you mean the ongoing obsession, i.e. the obsession now, or the obsession when the game first released?

Everything about that made me laugh. Usually those horrible titles are quick cash grabs trying to convince us they're legit.

Fair enough. I was in a hurry when I wrote that this morning and also didn't account for this being a British site, either.
But I definitely accept that different countries have different values.
Re: Nintendo Issues Multiple DMCAs On The Modding Site 'GameBanana'
@Teksetter
They also won't let people use skyrim mods on the switch. They certainly don't own skyrim, and it's modding is encouraged.
I don't think it's about the modding. With them, it's usually about not letting any path become available to the public for hacking their system.

Actually, maybe that doesn't translate.

I still prefer "sands of time" to the newest one, but I imagine many people voting never even got to try it out.
That being said, objectively, maybe people really do like the newest one better.
To each their own.

Re: New Unicorn Overlord Survey Gauges Interest In Sequel
Absolutely, but if they could include ogres in it, mass politics, and some kind of battle, that'd be even better.
They could name it, "Battle of Ogres," or something. I'm really just spitballing here.

I don't disagree with you, but the other one sounds like an overly wordy translation issue.
Neither sounds good.
(I don't know if you played the demo, but the prince you control acquires a unicorn ring, thus giving the developers a flimsy excuse to name it that)

Oh. I only meant that's it feels like a developing tradition since they're both bad titles.

To be fair, the last game that came out with mechanics like this was named:
"Ogre Battle 64: The Person of Lordly Caliber"
So, you know, the name is on par for the course.

I feel like western urban fantasy is a lot less flashy than the stills here look.
I'd be in for modern, western, urban fantasy, but this. . . I'll probably pass.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 24th)
Unicorn overlord demo, all the way.
I've played down the time limit on one save.
I'm planning to run through it again, making the opposite moral choices to see if there are early effects.
Then I'm going to try to speed run a third play to get as far as I can before the time limit.
