Re: Video: Sakurai Explains The Need For Online Updates And Patches

Kiwi_Unlimited

I do like patches, but with Sakurai, specifically, I'm a -little- wary. I loved smash bros melee. I'm not here to fight about which smash bros is best, but for me, wavedashing was king.

Given that it was sort of an unintended consequence of the mechanics, and that it had never returned to smash bros, I can't help but think it would've gotten patched out of melee, given the chance.

In other games, occasionally things/exploits like that appear, and then get patches out once everyone starts being aware of them.

Maybe sometimes, that's not for the best.

So you don't feel that owning something gives you the right to modify it?

All previous generations of Americans thrived off a culture that they could do with their toy/tool/house as they wished, with the understanding that they might void a warranty.

Why should games that they've purchased be any different?

True, but as a gamer (vs a marketer or industry insider, etcetera), I kind of hate it.

Game presentation conventions like e3 used to be these exciting, almost Christmas-like moments for gamers. When nintendo pulls out of these events to do only virtual showcases, it removes power from the convention. Further, personally, the virtual announcements just never seem as exciting to me.

I wish nintendo would still be part of the culture, but it feels more and more like they're retracting into themselves.

Side note: anyone who prefers this, I'm not challenging your preferences. I just prefer/miss the large game gatherings for announcements.

That was classic! I'm going to remember that one.

Edit:
In all honesty, though, you're kind of right. Usually I sit around going, "I hope this year they finally update their formula, blah, blah, blah."

Now I see this article and think, "That's cool. I have pal world. Pokemon can do whatever. "

I think I've gained a new chill with pokemon company's decisions, mostly because I don't feel like my monster collecting happiness is dependent on them anymore.

Perhaps the designs are, but given how different the gameplay is, I have trouble calling it a ripoff.

It's gameplay is very different from any of the monster collector games, and very well fleshed out.

The scary thing is that, if I didn't know pokemon's longstanding legacy, I'm not sure I'd know which was the"legitimate" game. In some ways, I feel like palworld is the more well done game.

There's no subscription. If you like survival games, this one is fantastic.

I've been playing it on steam, so I don't know if it's on Xbox, but if it is, I'd highly recommend it.

When i started it, for the first half hour/ first hour, I was a little worried. It felt like just another survival game. But once you get your first base up even a little bit, and get some pals running around, it all suddenly falls into place.

Unlike in conan exiles where your thralls seem lifeless and animatronic, for example, in pal world, they get moving and are smart enough to generally do what they're best at without additional commands. Put in a work order for more arrows. . . They'll make them for you. If they have a communal food bowl, fields, and the right pals to care for said fields, they'll keep themselves fed.

The whole thing just works with little micro managing.

And somehow, it's still early access. I have no idea where they're planning to go with the game, but i'm in for the ride.
