@THENAMESNORM I won't disagree with that. It's highway robbery what they are charging. It looks like they are aiming to do the same with DMC. And what moron decided to launch them during the Capcom sale, in contrast to the Revelations games that bare cheaper overall and currently on sale for combined less than any of these individual? I also agree Move support would be nice on PS4. I recently bought into VR, and the Moves make me nostalgic for the Wii.
@THENAMESNORM "The Switch also isnt a GameCube." No need to be snooty. I was just pointing out that it wouldnt be a 1:1 conversion, and this was only advertised as a port. Revelations uses gyroscopic motion controls. That's a different mechanism. They would have had to program NEW controls. If that's what you with happened, that's fine. But people are acting like they removed a feature, which is as fair as someone saying they removed it from the PS4 version.
@John_Deacon probably more. I wouldn't be surprised if this is $40. And the HD collection retails for $30, and can be had for as low as $12-ish depending on platform if you shop around. They're currently in the process of overcharging for Resident Evil by $10 per title, so it wouldnt be surprising.
I saw it this morning, still in the pre-order sale window and bought it. Haven't tried it yet. I looked it up on Steam, and reviews were favorable. Some were calling it Ace Combat with robots.
@Donutman who says it's a mediocre port? All I've heard is there's a slight resolution hit compared to PS4/PC, but still looks pretty good to me and seems to mostly hold to the target of 60 fps if reviews are to be believed.
@ReaderRagfish I just swung by amazon, and most 1st party titles are selling for $50. A couple for $40, and Mario + Rabbids is $30. This seems like a deal exclusively aimed at digital-only buyers, as all rewards from Nintendo have been this generation 🤷♂️
@Jayofmaya it goes on sale somewhat regularly! I'd recommend it. I dunno what you have access to, but I'll just list the options. It's backwards compatible as an Xbox Original. It's on Steam and Gog. Goes for about $10 when not on sale. Gog usually puts work into making sure their games work on modern hardware too. Though, I've played the Steam version for over a decade on a number of laptops, so most machines should run it.
There's also a quite respectable mobile port, on iOS and Android. I have both, and actually two Android copies- the Amazon appstore version has been useful in side-loading it onto devices that Google Play marked incompatible for random reasons. I believe the company behind this port also ported it to Mac.
@Jayofmaya I haven't played this game, but scores of cRPGs have what that could be describing. If you're strictly console, KOTOR, the first Mass Effect and Dragon Age are born from this DNA. Pillars of Eternity, Torment Tides of Numenara, and I believe the Divinity games also utilize this. Final Fantasy XII dipped its toes in these waters as well. Basically it means AI scripts let combat play out in "real time," and you can pause at any time to take a tactical view of the battle and assign direct actions to set up specific stratagems or combos, or intervene if your idiot party is about to get itself killed lol. I remember the last battle in Mass Effect turning into a borderline Turn-Based fight because of how much I tended to micro manage my squad's weapons and abilities during.
Again, I haven't played THIS game. I'm just familiar with that description for certain types of RPGs.
Everyone being ultra optimistic about thus console us confusing me. Games exclusively priced between $4-8 and you think we're getting anything beyond mobile level here? Maybe upgrade that to a Sega Ages release, depending on the love going in. But you cant do AAA at an $8 price point, the resources just aren't there. Honestly, that, EVERY game being rated E, and every game being exclusive pegs this as a niche machine at best. If its cheap, I'd consider getting it for my kid. But I'm not exactly giddy with anticipation here.
Man, Legends for Gameboy gets NO love. Those Christopher games (especially the first) are a snooze fest. Even as a kid playing on my GB I couldn't stick with the first Adventure. Legends IMO is the closest to hitting that NES glory, with some neat tricks and plot ideas of its own.
As others have said, I'm getting more of a Dragon Quest Monsters vibe here. With some Pokemon-inspired visuals and general setup to cash in on nostalgia.
That's... Not physical. Sure, you get basically a promo case. But you can't advertise a download code as a "physical" game. Especially on the Switch, where there is a tangible difference between running off a cart vs needing SD space (compared to X1/PS4 where even physical releases required a hefty install to the hard drive).
I want Mechstermination Force, but I'm broke and VR is around the corner. I just went into small debt picking up a PSVR set and Skyrim in VR is amazing. With news of Zelda coming to VR... My god. Also hoping this means Skyrim VR might be available down the line for Switch owners as well.
To the poll though, I did pre order Dragon Ball. That should arrive in the mail today. Still playing Super Robot Wars T though, so its competing for cart privileges lol
@Stocksy I thought it. Not because of a morality issue. Just, we saw what happened with AM2R. They HAVE a Links Awakening remake in the pipe, so of course they will aggressively enforce copyright. Nintendo is known for it, with I'd say Square Enix being the only ones in gaming that come close. It may get far enough along to leak in some form, but it's doomed. We all know this. Especially now that it is getting press coverage.
@Magician it probably varied by region, stock, internet access, magazines on shelves, etc. It was a few months into the following year when I had saved enough (oh those poor broke days) to enter that generation. I chose the GC initially, but it was quite clear the Dreamcast was dead (and not terribly well represented on shelves) and Xbox was making the rounds. Personally, I didn't touch Xbox until Kotor and Ninja Gaiden drew mr in (and the controller was redesigned), and friends still brought DC to gatherings for fighting game tournaments. But my local game shops did seem to sunset the console pretty quick while going all in on the new Xbox hype.
@Magician just going to be a stickler and point out that DC and Xbox never competed against each other. Support ended the Dreamcast early in 2001, with the Xbox launching over the holidays.
@JayJ Broke how, if you don't mind me asking? I thought mine had broken recently, turned out I had to update the firmware using the web tool. Don't know if that would help your situation, but thought it worth mentioning just in case.
My SN30 Pro is my go to controller, to the point that I haven't bought a standard Switch Pro controller. I'm awaiting the release of the SN30 Pro Plus for my second. This does look cool, but those random bugs and lack of sticks are a turn off for me.
@IHateTombs a lot of times I can find games on Amazon as well. Ship a lot faster, but puts the "fees" up front in that the games are usually priced at $80ish instead of $60.
@Tupin I dont know if THIS game is for me, as a large appeal to me was the custom music. But the original game back on Xbox was a super relaxing game for me. Part of it was the custom tracks, and there was some character fanboyism. I'm that rare fan who is less into the boob physics (I prefer the more subdued entries), but has been a Ninja Gaiden fan since the 80s and likes DOA as a spinoff 🤷♂️
@MasterGraveheart as a Super Robot Wars fan, I can tell you it's going to be ok lol. Just hit up Amazon or Play Asia. For whatever reason, games that are seen as problematic to release here seem to be getting by under the justification that certain Asian markets view English as a secondary language. Similar to how Spanish is in the US, possibly even more so. So more and more games get English support but have to be imported. I've been doing it a lot lately.
I'm torn...the last few games have the option to add your own music, and I've gotten really into that. The PS4 version of this game has that feature, but the Switch version likely doesnt. Yet, the portable aspect is certainly appealing.
@Equinox Cloud, call it a gen delay lol. But FFVII is coming to Switch next year. Shame when he first showed up was on the heels of The Twin Snakes, the full blown MGS remake gamecube exclusive. So theres some precedent!
I actually like my Vita. Its more portable than the Switch, and with Remote Play you could game on the go to an extent. Obviously not on level with the Switch, but many times I'd be playing The Last of Us, Witcher 3, or Dragon Age Inquisition and connect the Vita to head down to the laundry room or kitchen. It is sort of a proof of concept that Nintendo ultimately delivered fully on. But I still respect the machine. And between the gems that did land on it, including the recent trend of importable English language Bamco SRPGs (chiefly Super Robot Wars), and PSP/PS1 classics, I have a pretty solid library of quality titles for it. And even if they pull the market support and your memory card fails, you can store everything including install files on your desktop.
Its really good! The hiccups can be annoying. But like others have said, some hitching and sketchy loading screens in a big western RPG aren't new. Surprised so many people are defaulting to "oh well." Have you EVER played a Bethesda game? Then you'll be fine here. Its worth noting the X1 and PS4 ports also had their issues with loading and the occasional freeze. If that's a deal breaker for you overall, then that's fair. I just keep seeing this notion that the Switch ruined the game or something. Having played it on X1 a bit, in my opinion this version is a hair slower. Just ask if portability is worth the trade off (much like how many of us have dozens or more hours in Switch Skyrim even though every competitors current version of the game has mod support, including a super helpful community bug fix patch).
Wasn't everyone salivating over Death Road? Why assume that because this is on mobile it sucks? That line is blurry these days anyway. Mobile games like Oceanhorn make solid ports to Steam and consoles. PC games like FTL and Banner Saga have seamless transitions to mobile. Also, when this game launched it was as a marketing tool for the Fallout 4 reveal. So let's at least wait for the Direct before crying.
@ballistic90 this may sound minor, but I recommend any version BUT PC for the first game these days. Tryggvi, a kinda weird character whom I adore, was a Kickstarter backer character on PC. He's not otherwise available, despite being part of the group at the start of the second game. He IS, however, obtainable in all the ports of the game.
@Grandpa_Pixel that's a good point. SoT runs on Obsidian's proprietary engine. So it's possible that, in addition to the porting process, they'd have to work directly with Obsidian to license the use on the the platform. And it isn't like they'd get much out of that, as that engine isn't used in much. Pillars 2 is Obsidian's upcoming Switch debut, and the first one ran in Unity.
@Muddy_4_Ever I dunno...I'm not a fan of game streaming. I've had nothing but headaches with PlayStation Now.
That's not to say a subscription service can't work. The way things go on Xbox, you can download titles from the catalogue. Also, both MS and Sony's premium subscription freebies are a good example- you simply lose the licenses (with option to buy) if you lapse your sub.
I have this on my phone. It's like the love child of Oregon Trail (or should I say Organ Trail?) And Dead Rising (mainly 3 in my mind). It's loads of fun.
1) Atlus USA's PR guy has no control over the Japanese devs.
2) Just knowing my Persona, I wouldn't expect anything yet. I know nothing is announced, but every other Persona so far eventually got an enhanced re-release. P1 and 2 on PSP, P3 FES & Portable, P4 Golden. Our best bet for a Switch port would be if 5 gets a special edition.
Even if it doesn't, try not to get too salty. Atlas isn't one of those companies that craps on Nintendo. People are invoking Wii U woes. They put out a MegaTen-related Wii U exclusive. They also jumped ship film Sony with the core MegaTen franchise, giving DS/3DS owners Strange Journey (and its upcoming remake), SMT IV and Apocalypse, and the Soul Hackers remake. We also got the pseudo Etrian Odyssey crossover, Persona Q. And, let's not forget the DS family has their own "SMT meets Persona" series in the Devil Survivor SRPGs. Unless I'm forgetting something, the only thing Sony has gotten in the MegaTen vein for years is Persona and various ports/special editions thereof. Oh and spinoffs (Catherine, Arena, Dancing All Night). Catherine was legit the only PS3 MegaTen before P5, while 3DS got release after release. So chin up, guys.
It blew my mind when Squenix started releasing marquee titles on Xbox. Hopefully with the success of the Switch and love that smaller Square projects enjoy on Nintendo portables, maybe we can see some larger development?
@Rika_Yoshitake There is a legit concern, regarding price. We Switch owners currently still have to have this Wii U holdover mentality of "at least we get something." Remember when Wii U got an unfinished port of Mass Effect 3, at the same time other consoles got a trilogy bundle? I believe PS3 was even hyped because it didn't previously have the first game- so there was precedent for "catching players up."
Granted this is steadily improving. But, the fact is this- UNS Trilogy on PSN is $40. UNS4/Road to Boruto (all DLC edition) is $50. UNS Legacy is $70. Cost to get Trilogy and 4 separate= about $90. So right there, cost prohibitive to get separately. And the price for the Switch Trilogy release, converted from yen to USD, is almost $64- close to the Legacy collection price. If someone were to buy this and seek out 4 on another platform, they'd be paying over $100 for something PlayStation, Xbox, and PC players get for $70.
THAT said...UNS 1-3 were last gen, and this collection first came out for PS3. Most likely 4 would need additional effort to optimize.

Re: Resident Evil 4 On Switch Is Missing Something Pretty Major For Nintendo Fans
@THENAMESNORM the Switch doesn't have a sensor bar. They'd have to cook up a new control scheme. A direct port of the Wii edition wouldn't work.

Re: Review: Code Of Princess EX (Switch)
As an owner of the 3DS original, I may throw this in my GameFly list. It just hardly seems worth double dipping.
60fps and couch co-op sound cool, though given the aesthetic this isn't something I've let my child play thus far on our portable.
The rest of the "improvements?" Removed vocal tracks, removed character customization options, removed, bursts are altered to give you less control.
So then it comes down to how much you want the extra characters, and if enough people are playing online to make it worthwhile.

It blew my mind when Squenix started releasing marquee titles on Xbox. Hopefully with the success of the Switch and love that smaller Square projects enjoy on Nintendo portables, maybe we can see some larger development?
Re: Break Out The Ramen Because Naruto: Ultimate Storm Trilogy Is Headed to Switch
