So, Q3 of their FY lasted from September to end of May the following year? That’s a 9-months quarter… Mistakes like these really shouldn’t happen in an article like this.
@dkxcalibur Gears is not an FPS, though, as you are not playing in first person. More on topic: I recommend trying MySims Racing on Wii, if you are still open to trying alternatives to MK. I was genuinely surprised by how good it was. The racing itself is fine, but it adds a meaty adventure mode similar to Diddy Kong Racing.
How can so many here call the US one generic? Please point me to any other cover that's even similar. Featuring a pile of items? That's bold, and I love it. Also, to me, the JP one is the actual generic cover. Just another case of Anime characters lined up. On top, the framing is terrible. Why limit the art's real estate that much? That's a sin usually commited by Western covers. Lastly, I am sorry, but I never liked the Toriyama style. It's nearly as bad as the One Piece style. Look, I've enjoyed manga/anime for >25 years now, but Toriyama's drawings simply aren't nice to look at. I liked OG Dragonball not for its drawings, but despite them. I guess Toriyama was good at telling stories.
@AndyMcDonald At the time, sprite graphics were also just born of technical limitations. If they could have done more realistic graphics, they would have done so. No difference, really. Just, you happen to prefer one over the other.
Quite surprised by the result. Just zoom in on Firebrand‘s face on the JP cover. That looks terrible. Not in a scary demonic way, but just derpy. Whereas on the EU/US cover, Firebrand looks like Western demon depictions of yore, which is way cool. Also, the JP cover is just…barren. It has nice ideas, but overall is just middling.
@Zeebor15 I‘d argue that by that point it had long since simply become its own genre (paddle and ball game), and Breakout was even a copy of an earlier game itself. So yeah, I think Alleyway was perfectly ok.
@Zeebor15 Genuine question: Why? Because it’s similar to Break-Out? There have been so many Break-Out clones at the time, so why would this one’s existence confuse you?
And after these there are no other Nintendo games left announced (except for MP4 and Pokémon Legends 2, both of which will not come out anytime soon). So, Nintendo, how about a Direct any time now?
@Moistnado You are completely ignoring the point: Jools and his team (if he has any) were not involved in converting Dementium 2 to the the PC. For them, it’s a first time.
And the port also does not work well as an example to learn from, because it’s a bad port. So it makes sense that „this guy“ had to think about how to bring Dementium to a single screen.
It‘s shmup, not shump, as it‘s short for shoot em up. And stop using „notorious“ synonymous with „famous“. Notorious always has a negative connotation. Just check Cambridge dictionary.
I don’t think you know what the word „underrated“ means. This game always got glowing reviews and plenty of praise from most played that played it. It might have sold badly and might not have been played as much as it deserves. But this game is about as far away from being „underrated“ as a game can be.
@Kilroy It‘s a blatant copy of an Android game. That’s why. It’s rather sad that an outlet such as Nlife doesn’t even acknowledge the history of the game.
Yo, Keiji, you still owe me a key for Mighty No. 9. Every backer who chose the 3DS version got screwed. They should just offer us Steam keys, and it's ok, but they just kept quiet for the past years, and the 3DS version basically has never been cancelled, and we never got to change our choice. Scummy guy.
And my account is at least nearly 16 years old. Joined the old VC Reviews site in January 2008. Had been using it a lot longer before that, but only then decided to create an account.
That’s sad for me to read. Zelda used to be my absolute favorite series, starting back with the original on NES. But now this series has lost me entirely, and Nintendo will not even care.
@TheMegaMarshtomp „it all felt empty and meaningless“ Funnily enough, that’s exactly how I felt about BotW. I am happy for all the people enjoying that game, but I think I will never be able to see the appeal. Interesting to see rather many people here now apparently felling about TotK the way I already did about BotW.
Insfune stills owes me a key for Mighty No 9. I backed it on KS and chose the 3DS version…which never materialized. They didn’t even have the dignity to officially cancel it. Just radio silence. They should at least then have sent me a key for the Steam version or let me choose again. And of course I am not the only one. Anybody who chose the 3DS version is in the same boat. Really shady behavior on Inafune‘s behalf.
@BiscuitCrumbsInMyBed Definitely not. I attended E3 2005 and the Nintendo press conference myself as a member of the media, and I have been following the E3 closely before and after. Definitely, back then, the exhibition itself and the publisher shows were not open to the public. If anything, it got more open in years after.
At the exhibition itself, you could also see e.g. Gamestop clerks or other people from the industry, but at the publishers' press conferences (as they were called), you would obviously only get in as a member of the press. And they would even limit the people per medium. We were three guys travelling to LA from Germany, but we could only get 2 tickets for the Nintendo show.
@Midge In Europe we‘re having an Atlus sale, but no Capcom sale. I believe Capcom has held no sale for years over here…would love to buy the AA games, but not at full price.

@shgamer How is SOTN a Sony exclusive? There’s already a Saturn version.
I doubt that years later Sony suddenly spent money to then keep it off of other platforms going forward.
