@Athropos „They didn't sue Dragon Quest Monsters however. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that DQM was not a blatant attempt at making money from someone else's licence“ DQ V is the original monster taming game, so there‘s that.
„Dragon Quest III is a hugely beloved game worldwide and in Japan in particular“ LOL, hyperbole much? Sure, in Japan it’s a phenomenon, and it probably has some fans in the US, but in Europe barely anyone ever cared for the NES entries, and „hugely beloved worldwide“?
They should rather make sure to have enough stock. Was super disappointed that all the big cushions were sold out around noon despite them only selling one per person. Ridiculous stock strategy that entirely soured my visit.
„There are more windows showcasing images from the game“ How so? It‘s 6 windows both on the EU and US box… Also, you are not going to mention the terrible blurb about 2D and 3D on the US box or how only one cover actually contains a mask?
@Thomystic @SG2 @rjejr I know I am late, but: Nintendolife doesn’t choose the highlights. They merely regurgitate Nintendo‘s press release, so Ninty chooses the highlights. NLife only adds their little touch in the article‘s sub-header.
@BANJO That's fair enough, though my Ngage looks just rough. The "Nokia" label above the screen is barely readable anymore, so I guess mine isn't worth all that much anymore. ^^ Fortunately, I have quite a few sealed games, and even some of the heavy hitters. With Ngage, it always seems to me like there really are just 2 kinds of games in terms of values. You have the (just value-wise) junk like the ones you mentioned or Tony Hawk, Rayman, etc. and then you have games that fetch really nice money like Warhammer, the Atari Collections, Civilization, etc. Very little inbetween. And at least from my European POV the two regional exclusives (NCAA in the US and Sega Rally in Australia) are quite valuable as well.
@BANJO A fellow Ngage collector? Nice. I also have a full set. Love that little device. Used to be my actual phone for a couple of years. Even took it to E3 2005, playing Pathway to Glory on the bus to the exhibition center.
"anyone who owned an NES or a SNES will have likely had multiple Sunsoft games in their collection" I had a sizeable collection for both systems as a kid and didn't even own a single Sunsoft game on either. Their SNES output was hardly anything to write home about...
I love 80s & 90s anime style, but the JP cover looks just super cheap, flat and boring. Plus, it doesn’t fit the series at all, as it was always leaning heavily into 80s Hollywood action flick aesthetics.
@Serpenterror „That's cause the t at the end of Namcot stands for Tengen. Tengen was not just a subsidiary of Atari but Namco as well which is why there's unofficial versions of those games“
The saltiness in the comments section is amazing. People really expect e.g. a more-or-less direct port of an admittedly great game from 20 years ago to be nominated for GOTY, but they complain about a meaty DLC being nominated? If that DLC was released separately, then suddenly it would magically be ok?
@Farts_Ahoy „The worst part seems to be the lack of respect for his superiors telling him to stop.“ Nowhere in the article does it say anything like that.
I like the drawing style of the JP cover, but not what they did with it. Not a pretty cover by any means. I prefer the Western one as is at least shows the mix of realism and Mario wackiness subtly in its background composition.
@Not_Soos „I think most of us would agree Superstar Saga is a masterpiece“ Back when SS released, I had played RPG and Paper before, and I was utterly disappointed in SS by comparison. To me it was ok-ish, I guess, but nothing more.
@PKDuckman I know I am late, but: There were even four of those collections. Just, 2 of them were only released in Japan. Love them so much I bought them all.
@Not_Soos I know I am late, but: „3D World felt like the worst of both worlds to me, where it didn't fully commit to being either a linear platformer or an open sandbox; it was just an awkward middle ground to me“ That’s exactly why I never liked Mario Galaxy 1. It had plenty of open spaces that were just empty. It often felt so pointless and sloppily designed. Galaxy 2 fortunately rectified this, by really leaning into being more focused and linear.
@CupidStunt Hahaha, sounds like you are dressing up perfectly for the occasion. I will be there on 11/Nov with my wife and son. Enjoy your day there. It’s surely a magical place, and I can’t wait.
@CupidStunt Oh yeah, I have been to Japan probably more than ten times, both privately and for business, as I work for a Japanese company. USJ is in our list, and our son is too young for the rollercoasters, so I guess we will be mostly fine, as rides for kids tend to not be as crowded in all of these kinds of parks. I will consider getting the Exprwss pass for the Nintendo part, though. Thanks for the recommendation. And I have also been checking the status of the DK ride again and again, alas to no avail yet. They keep the opening date really secret after the delay. ^^
@CupidStunt Thanks. Yeah, that’s what I am hoping for. Let’s see. We are rather flexible within roughly 2 weeks, so hopefully we can still get a ticket there.
I wonder why so many people like the pixel cover of the US, saying that it helped show what the game really looks like…that’s what the screenshots on the back are for. The front cover is supposed to look nice, and those pixel covers sure don’t achieve that. Just pointless.

Re: Feature: "Time To Laughter Is Like Zero" - Jackbox Games CEO On Quiplash, T-Shirts, And 10 Years Of Party Packs
I never played any of them. But I loved YDKJ back in the day on PC.
Thought for sure that it’s a UK company.

Re: Nintendo Is Developing New Mobile Game Apps, Unsurprisingly
Let’s see if they at least bother releasing them in this tiny market called Europe. With Dragalia Lost they sure enough didn’t for whatever reason.
Re: Nintendo Download: 24th October (North America)
@TotalHenshin I know I am late, but: Nintendo decides on those. Nlife just regurgitates Nintendo‘s press releases.
Re: HAL Laboratory's Lovely Physics Puzzler 'Part Time UFO' Has Been Delisted On Mobile
@BandeeOfTheStars I think you can easily redownload delisted games via your download history.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Balloon Fight (NES)
Never liking those pixel covers. They are pointless as the back shows actual screenshots, and they just look corny.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Reveal Trailer Gives First Official Look At The New Console
Are we sure it's 2nd April? My German brain says it's 4th February.
Would Nintendo really use the weird US date system?

I do remember it, but on Mega Drive.
Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Toys Speed Into McDonald's UK Happy Meals
We already had them in Germany last week (maybe even earlier?).
Why is UK late here?
Re: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Tops Rolling Stone's 50 Best Games Of All Time
It wouldn’t even make a top 1,000 for me, let alone land in first place.
Most overrated game ever.

Re: Random: Fans Are Begging Nintendo's Ex President To Sell His N64 Collection
@BANJO Oh, is it? I was under the assumption nobody really cares for it nowadays, except for a few pricey games like Shadowkey.

Four?

EU easily as it shows how you can alter nouns in fun ways. That’s what the game is about. US cover is ok but generic.
Re: Nintendo Direct Announced For Super Nintendo World's Donkey Kong Expansion
@JohnnyMind When it‘s slated to open in late 2024, you expect them to present it in early 2025? Why would they present it after opening?

Re: Nintendo Museum Tickets Will Feature Your Mii
@CupidStunt It‘s finally open and I got the tickets! They still seemed to have tickets for plenty of dates available.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Rayman Advance
Wow, the green US cover is really ugly. Easy win for Europe.
Re: Nintendo Museum Tickets Will Feature Your Mii
@CupidStunt Open purchases for Oct and Nov are still not open for me. It still says „preparing“. Is it different for others?
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Almost Had A Different Name
That title would completely lose the double meaning (tear as in crying and tear as in tearing apart). So, TotK is definitely better.
Re: Nintendo Museum Tickets Will Feature Your Mii
@CupidStunt Never feel sad for what we enjoy. I might follow in your footsteps here as a 40-year old man.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project
@AndyRogan Look closer. It‘s the four (correct) colors on the cover. Red, orange, blue and purple.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project
@piecez They have four different colors on the US cover. It‘s not the original „all are red“ design.
