@antdickens I did, but I believe you took a train to MUC? (It doesn’t specify in the article as far as I can see) Trains between Cologne and Frankfurt are usually less of an issue due to the short distance and the frequency. Taking a train across half the country will set you for disaster. That’s for certain with our Deutsche Bahn. Oh, Nlife is based close to Ashby? That’s pretty cool. I hope you have some sort of connection also to Rare, then. ^^
@antdickens Next time, better eat at the Press Center. They have decent sausages for a lower price, and lots of seating opportunities. Also, welcome to GC. I have attended every year since 2003, most of them as press member. And funny to hear that you came from BHX, as I occasionally land there on business trips to Ashby. My advice: Don’t have a stop over in Munich, but land in Frankfurt and then take a train to Cologne.
@Medic_alert The Internet isn’t all that bad in all places. Gamefaqs is still a great place for well-written guides of all kinds. Sincerely, somebody who has written several guides there himself in the past.
Am I really the only one who thinks this looks terrible? Everything looks so flat, stilted, empty and just lazy. It’s just like when everyone praised the late 2D Rayman games, even though they had super lazy animations. Everything was basically stills that just morphed and bent.
@SoIDecidedTo Both the US and EU cover use the same picture, but the US cover cuts off the picture on the sides. You can see more of the picture on the EU cover. Thus, the EU cover is clearly the better one.
Also that quip about the 70 mini games on the US cover is just tacky as hell.
@Spider-Kev Maybe newer PlayStation controllers have a dpad, but the ones on PS1 and 2 certainly did not. You could e.g. play DDR on those, as it allowed for pressing opposite directions at the same time (up and down or left and right), because they were individual buttons. By 2005 Nintendo‘s patent expired, so Sony might have taken their design afterwards. I don’t know. Haven’t had a Sony system after PS2. And Microsoft has round discs with a cross on them. Also different from Nintendo‘s D pad.
@Spider-Kev Sony doesn’t have a d-pad. They have four separate buttons aligned in a cross shape. Exactly because Nintendo was holding a patent for an actual d-pad.
All the people here not realizing that a world outside of the US exists is wild, as usual. He said 90 bucks. Not USD. In Europe the game is indeed 90 bucks as in 90 EUR. Rockstar is based in Scotland, and who knows where this guy is located at.
Two terrible shades of boring. I am usually not one to say „both are terrible“, but here we are. Also, nobody thinks that the Western Cover seems to be depicting an avalanche? It just happens to be drawn in such a nothingburger fashion that it’s even hard to tell if it is an avalanche, or just some snow flakes blown up by the boarder.
That‘s really sad to see. Not only is it a song composed by Kirkhope, but you even hear his voicing the friggin movie. Of course they should credit him. Especially when crediting Kondo. Either nobody or all, but why only Kondo? That makes it even more disgusting.
@Coalescence Are you really comparing Robox to this scam? Robox at least was an original game with the developer having poured effort into. On top, enough people actually liked it.
What a waste of time this interview was. But then again, I am not even sure what this gentleman is doing at Nintendo, so I guess he might simply not be involved all that much in decision making? After all, he works in product development…at NOA?
Which begs the question why you would even interview him.
@The_Nintend_Pedant
Thank you! It always annoys me greatly to see more and more people calling Metroid Prime an FPS. It feels like around the launch of the first game more people understood that it’s in fact an action-Adventure involving shooting that happens to be viewed from first person.
It‘s the perfect transition into 3D for the series, keeping the original feeling intact. So why would people call it an FPS?
Hating the NA one. The coloring is bad, the cover is way too cluttered and why are the syllables colored differently? Because Americans would not be able to properly pronounce the title otherwise?
„Pokémon Stadium has hardly been the most lucrative spin-off for the series in the years since its launch, spawning just the one sequel in 2001“ There are 3 Pokémon Stadium games on N64.
And somebody should have noted how that Venusaur move looks like a classic Kabuki pose.
@Anti-Matter „Even there was MySims made by Japanese team from The Sims popularity in Japan“ Not sure what you are referring to. The MySims games were developed in the US.
@SuperRetroArt Maybe English isn’t their first language? E.g. in German the country‘s name is Moldawien, and it might be similar in other languages. So maybe people just translate it incorrectly into English. To be fair, people rarely talk about Moldovia online.
So…does the exhibition currently still exist somewhere in Japan? I couldn’t care less about it coming to the Us, but I will be in Japan in 2 weeks, and this would be great to take my son to.
They had already fired 140 people before that? Just how many employees did they have at one point? That sounds utterly excessive for the kinds of games they made.
@AmplifyMJ I bought Horace because of Nlife‘s glowing 9/10 review…yeah, it was a decent little game, but that rating was just ridiculous. This site sometimes tends to review British games better just on the virtue of being British.
„it's making extra use of the landscape orientation here to increase the size of the protagonist“ I will never understand this odd perspective Nlife always has here. The JP GBA boxes do not add extra space. It’s the same space Ina different orientation. In the hands of a good designer, the Western boxes can be used to add more space to an artwork on the y axis, while in Japan it’s the x axis. And in this particular case, the JP box cuts off Klonoa‘s foot, while the EU version shows it in it’s entirety.
LOL. All the comments mention Unicorn Overlord as #1, but that has changed. Now its‘s SMTVV, i.e. a technically good game that still got a lot of flak for Atlus‘s business decisions surrounding it.
@Migoshuro I know I am late, but I also remember the JP cover vividly from German marketing. The magazine Funvision even had it as a poster and I put in on my wall back in the day. Ah, the memories.
@construx This is the home console MySims Kingdoms, though, whereas you mention the DS one, which is a different game. Hence, they cannot „re-add“ it to this, as this game apparently never had Hungarian subtitles. Of course I feel like they should have included the handheld versions in this collection from the start, but yeah, unfortunately not.
Interesting, as I was at the store just a month ago in a biz trip. ^^ But yeah, the article should really clarify what the plastic wrap refers to and how and if it affects booster packs. Don’t just regurgitate, please.
Wow, all the saltiness in the comments… I like articles like this, especially with the writer giving it their own spin. No need to just be „here is a video“.
