A week without more free Splatoon content is a week we'd rather not have. Thankfully the big squid in the sky has been kind yet again and graced us with a new map: Flounder Heights.
This new map employs a unique variety of different levels, but without the sheer scale or linear vertical space of Moray Towers. It's certainly one that you'll need to get used to, but the unusual environment allows a great deal of strategy to be injected into the affairs of the squids and kids involved. Not only that but if you listen carefully you may even be able to hear Cicadas all the way from Animal Crossing, check out the video below to hear for yourself!

This is a good one.
...I think Moray Towers is a bit higher than this. lol
Looking forward to playing this. Hopefully, it's more Splatling-friendly than Moray Towers. Though I'm actually a bit surprised we didn't get Slosher and Splatling variations, yet.
SPLATOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!
Strategies for this map: Rollers tend to control the central area by running everyone over. hooters and other versatile weapons - perhaps Sloshers - can ink the walls and climb up to get behind rollers. Chargers aren't nearly as good as everyone suspected, in fact the vantage points are barely vantage points at all. Splatlings are as Alex showed probably more effective. Blasters are also pretty powerful especially on that centre bridge.
Oh, I found a typo: "luckily the big squid in the sky has been kind yet gain"
This is a wide level. Well see how i like this one.
@Calllack Did I miss a new weapon type and do you have to squeeze the weapon to shoot - "Hooters"
Looking forward to trying this new map out
Reconed the map last night in both rainmaker and turf modes and it's huge. I see it as a mix between the scale of Moray but the vertical of Bluefin. But on the very bright side I couldn't find a single place to fall off.
I never played though, it was so big I was a tad intimidated. I do hope it's in splat fest.
I enjoyed this map. The only time I delivered the fish to the goal in rainmaker (twice!). I suspect I took advantage of the early confusion of people familiarizing themselves with the new terrain. Anyways, I controlled the center of the map below the bridge with the range blaster. At one point I blasted all four baddies at once, took the fish, and made a b-line to the goal - my team mate made a beautiful assist by dispatching a seeker directly to the goal from about 50 feet away and I coasted right to the goal untouched. One of my proudest Splatoon moments, lol!
@rjejr it's wide but short; you can get to the opponents base in a heartbeat by cutting through center beneath the bridge.
Looks like an interesting course. I'll be sure to try it out this weekend.
Cicadas? In an apartment?
I played it last night and although it's pretty obvious, many players didn't get how to play this map and ran through the middle, constantly getting stopped and losing the Rainmaker. You have to use the flanks as those provide more cover and aren't crowded with enemies. That way, it can be really easy to win quickly (like on straight-forward maps like Arowana Mall or Walleye Warehouse). Otherwise, it's a longer battle which you are more likely to lose.
BTW: How long will Rainmaker stay in every second rotation? So far it's four hours Splat Zones/Tower Control and then four hours Rainmaker. When will the rotation go back to normal? I adjusted well to Rainmaker (Silver Aerospray, Seeker, Inkzooka) and was able to get my B- rank back yesterday, but I still like the other modes better.
Played this several times last night in ranked matches. It might just be one of my favorite maps in the game.
I thought this would be available today, not last night. Then I am gonna try it if available when I get home.
This new stage Flounder Heights, Moray Towers & Port Mackerel are my favorite maps so far in this game. Others dont really make an impact on me like so.
I'm enjoying this one
