Re: Poll: Is $60 Too Much For Nintendo's Switch Re-Releases?

Kang81

@The_Blue_Mage

I agree, and so far the only game that I consider an actual 'remake' from Nintendo was LoZ: Link's Awakening.

That's a legit 'remake', everything else I consider remasters and are grossly overpriced.

People are willing to pay what I consider overpriced amounts, and there are those major Nintendo fans that would buy them at even higher prices because Nintendo does no wrong. That's why they get away with it, pure and simple.

Re: Nintendo Celebrates Paper Mario: TTYD Release With "Retro" GameCube Cover

Kang81

Would have been nice to have a reversible slip cover in every physical copy to begin with considering the price of the remaster.

This is Nintendo though so that's asking a bit much. I guess it's still better than paying the high price for the GameCube version. Which I'd imagine will lose its value now.

I'm still looking forward to playing in it's entirety for the first time. When it originally released I foolishly traded it in to either GameStop or GameCrazy.

I think it was in part to having to read everything via text bubbles because at that time I was spoiled by voice acting being more prevalent in games. While I love to read, I didn't enjoy reading in a television back then.

Re: Nintendo's MAR10 Day Sale Brings Discounts To Select Games And DLC (North America)

Kang81

@Rozetta

I disagree, most products over time lower in price. Nintendo themselves have lowered the price of their biggest games eventually, just look at the greatest hits collections.

It's just a way to get more sales from more cost conscious consumers. It's not like the games are a year old.

Nintendo chooses not to because of money. The Wii and especially the Switch has sold so well Nintendo feels it doesn't need to lower prices.

Now this is their right to do, but in no way does lowering the cost of their games diminish the quality or integrity of the them. That's just their excuse instead of just saying the truth. "We don't want to lower the price of our games because we know consumers (especially fans) will just buy them and it makes us more money."

That phrasing isn't something most companies want to publicly state so they come up with some PR nonsense reason instead.

Re: Nintendo's MAR10 Day Sale Brings Discounts To Select Games And DLC (North America)

Kang81

@MsMaestroon

I'm not much of a strategy game guy, I enjoyed what I played of X-Com Enemy Unknown and it's sequels but never finished them because I'm horrible at them.

The first Mario + Rabbids game is great from what I played, I still need to beat it but it's been backlogged as my free time has lessened. Thankfully it was not as challenging or at least as unforgiving with design mechanics like X-Com.

I own Sparks of Hope and I hear some changes weren't liked but that it's still good. I'll hopefully get to it some day soon.

Re: Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Receives A New Update On Switch

Kang81

Hmm, they fixed the Xerxes coin farm from the Lost Warrior West of the Mt. Qaf main gate. You can get that warrior to spawn more than once.

Just head into the cave further east of the lost warrior and use time recall the moment you get teleported back to the cave entrance. It takes a few tries to get the timing down.

Then I realized the Xerxes coins are just for the one specific vendor and I have no interest in his wares.

Oh, and every time you kill that lost warrior it counts towards your quest for them. I e only done it 3 times but have no further need for it. The person that posted that trick wasn't sure if it would cause any issues with the game or turning in the quest so use at our own risk I guess.

Re: Square Enix To Be "Aggressive In Applying" AI Going Forwards

Kang81

@axelhander

First, I have no idea what bunk means.

Second, yeah my statement about most A I. use is guaranteed to be abused was overreacting. I own up to that. No doubt A I. will have a lot of legitimate use, but it will also be abused.

However, I still stand by my opinion about A.I. using other people's hard work is stealing. Also, that people who think taking someone else's work isn't stealing because the creator still has their copy so it's all good.

Re: Sea Of Stars Has Reached More Than 4 Million Players In 4 Months

Kang81

@ReticentRobot

Late reply, I get it though, GamePass started the trend and is usually the go to descriptor for these services. I think a lot of people don't realize how many good games are on PS+.

If I didn't already own everything of interest in both subscriptions I would argue PS+ actually has the better lineup of games. At least for my tastes.

Re: Review: Eastward: Octopia (Switch) - A Great Farm Sim Expansion That Edges Out The Base Game

Kang81

I wanted to like Eastward, I really did, but in the entirety of the first section before traveling to the 2nd area there was barely anything in the way of actual gameplay.

There was a brief mini game, and then the underground tunnel which didn't contain much gameplay either.

The game is beautiful, but even the story wasn't likeable enough to keep me playing. Maybe I went into it uninformed, but from what I had seen prior to playing it made it seem like it could be a top down action adventure, not unlike Zelda in some ways but with a bigger emphasis on story. In the end, the game just isn't for me but that certainly doesn't mean it's a bad game.

This is just another reason I still use GameFly. You know, that service from the olden days, when games and movies shipped via the post office.

I tell ya, youngins these days and their whatchamacallit games. Was it digitated, no digitized, err, digital games, whatever, keep off my grass!

Re: Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Dev Would "Love" To Make A Zelda Game

Kang81

@kfflscnt

Ubisoft certainly is hit or miss with DLC. We get great DLC as with AC Odyssey and it's expansions with 2 full remastered AC games for $40, or we get the junk that Ubisoft is peddling with the Skull & Bones: Complete Cutthroat Edition.

Where fans can pay $30 for the laughable added content in that edition to experience what it's like to have their wallets plundered by pirates.

Re: Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Dev Would "Love" To Make A Zelda Game

Kang81

I know Zelda needed a big change but I'm not a big fan of BotW. I did enjoy TotK, but it still didn't feel like Zelda.

If Nintendo wants to stick with the new formula, then let some other developers make some Zelda games geared towards the fans that still want something closer to the classic style. Whether they're made by another Nintendo developer or 3rd party developer.

Capcom made some great Zelda games with Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and a personal favorite, the Minish Cap. I'm not a fan of Capcom right now, but there are plenty of amazing developers that would love to make a Zelda game, as this article shows.

Re: Square Enix To Be "Aggressive In Applying" AI Going Forwards

Kang81

@BlackenedHalo

I've heard some dumb arguments for AI in art.

One person had mentioned how they weren't good at art, and it would take too much time and effort to get good at it so they can just use AI for it. Huh?? Let's take all the credit for none of the work.

If that wasn't already bad enough, the same person said using AI wasn't stealing someone else's work. It has to learn from something and then pull images to mash together into what it calls art.

On top of that, when they were responding to an opposing viewpoint on what constitutes stealing art, his response was...well, rather idiotic.

He said if he took the artists work and copied it, he wouldn't be stealing it because the original artist still has their work and they have their "copy" to do what they want with.

How they think that isn't stealing is beyond me.

Re: Square Enix To Be "Aggressive In Applying" AI Going Forwards

Kang81

@Tulio517

I agree, and I don't like it, but it will only be more prevalent in the coming years, but hopefully it can be kept in check and not abused.

Surely that won't happen. 😑

I'm already finding so many articles online that are clearly A.I. generated. When I see that I blacklist that site.

The art theft needs to have some laws created to protect artists. The same for music and the use of an actors face and voice. When I read talks about paying actors a pittance one time to forever have access to their image is both insulting and troublesome.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Wins Another 'Game Of The Year' Award

Kang81

@RubyCarbuncle

I agree, I don't feel ToTk changes enough, and even with what it did a lot of it was rehashed. I am in no way surprised its winning a lot of GotY awards though. The Nintendo hive mind is too strong.

Now I did thoroughly enjoy TotK. However, I really did not like BotW and according to my end of year review, from its launch until this year I played 37 hours.

In comparison I played TotK for 260 hours in two months. A back injury leaving me stuck in bed during that time helped me rack up those hours. I did enjoy it more.

Regardless, it's far too similar to BotW. The sky islands were far less than I had expected, and while the underground was fun for the first few hours it quickly became a major annoyance for me to traverse and I resented the need to do so. Pre-duplication glitch anyway.

Re: Sea Of Stars Has Reached More Than 4 Million Players In 4 Months

Kang81

@SpeedRunRocks

I'm holding out for a physical release as well. I wouldn't be surprised it's released with any DLC being downloadable. Hopefully it'll all be on the cart, and hopefully it's still coming out early 2024.

Until then, I guess I'll just play it via PS+ or GamePass before it's removed.

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite Switch Games Of The Year 2023

Kang81

@GraniteFraggle

Dredge is so good, and I never thought I would have enjoyed a game like that. I'm so glad Steam had a demo otherwise I may have passed on it.

I bought a physical copy for Switch, but I ended up switching to my Steam Copy and played it on Steam Deck because the load times were better.

I hope to see Dredge get some love, I think it deserves it.

The Last Faith always looked great, despite my utter disdain for Dark Souls and any game that takes inspiration from its mechanics, particularly lost XP/Resource is used for leveling up or unlocking abilities.

Very few times do I find a game with said mechanics I can tolerate. Blasphemous being one of the rare exceptions, although I've yet to beat it.

Anyway, once the Last Faith released and I read impressions I lost all interest. Soulslike, or in this case Bloodborne like design wasn't even the worst part. Hearing how clunky it was sealed the deal im skipping it.

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite Switch Games Of The Year 2023

Kang81

I awarded no game a 10, because no game ever deserves a 10.

I'm not sure yet what my number #1 pick will be.

In no particular order, my top 3 choices are...

Dredge
Sea of Stars
Gunbrella

Considering how much I disliked BotW, TotK was surprisingly my most played game of the year with 260 hours during May & June. Although if not for a back injury at the time, I don't think I would have played it nearly that much.

Still, it was an enormous amount of playtime in comparison to my time spent playing BotW. My playtime for BotW was only 37 hours, and that was over the course of time between its launch and the release of TotK.

Re: Random: More Kids Want In-Game Currency Over Physical Media This Holiday

Kang81

@HammerKirby

I agree, but sadly this is becoming the new norm. I know it's not all of the younger gamers, but it's definitely easier to get them on board with the entire micro-transactions filled games as a good thing mentality. If their first introduction into the hobby/industry right from the start is gaming as a service or filled with countless micro-transactions, then that's all they'll know and likely be fine with it. Just what the industry wants.

Re: Switch To Get Timed Exclusive Access To Robert Pattinson In Batman: Arkham Trilogy

Kang81

Well that explains why the costume was released not long ago and quickly pulled.

Having the games on Switch could be great, as long as they run ok. Asylum and City should be fine, City was already on the WiiU, but one to be cautious about is Arkham Knight.

I hope all 3 are great, and I would buy them if they all had been on physical carts, but we can't have that sadly. If I'm forced to go digital for 2/3 of the games than I'll just stick with my PC copies on Steam Deck.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games

Kang81

Yoku's Island Express is so good and I cannot recommend it enough.

I'd also add a few more.

Kunai
Feudal Aloy
Blast Brigade vs. The Evil Legion of Dr. Cread
Ghost 1.0
Chasm
Shinseki Into the Depths

While it's not exactly a Metroidvania, I also recommend 'Treasures of the Agean'

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch Online's N64 Release Schedule

Kang81

@Dringo

Nintendo has far more games in its backlog to release more frequently. The service still pails in comparison to the competition, even if it's cheaper.

Everything on offer are decades old games that most Nintendo fans likely own multiple times already. This is Nintendo though so they're highly unlikely to ever put newer games onto NSO.

In my case, the only reason I even have the service is because I'm forced to use it to have cloud saves backups. God forbid Nintendo allow us to manually back up our save files. They have to stick it in as a feature of NSO to entice subscriptions.

To be fair, even the competition has made manually backing up saves a hassle to do, no doubt to also push paying for their services to access cloud saves storage. It's all about the money, and businesses want everything to be a service these days.

Re: Nintendo Updates Switch Online's N64 Release Schedule

Kang81

@SBandy1

Typical Nintendo, but the big N has legions of fans who think they can do no wrong and I feel that's one reason they underutilize their online offerings.

Yeah, Switch Online isn't as expensive as the competition, but the competition offers far more value than Switch Online, especially since most of the Switch Online offered games are old and likely owned multiple times by a large if not majority portion of Switch Online subscribers. That being said, it'll be a cold day in h*** before Nintendo ever adds newer games to their online service.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

Kang81

@SwitchForce

I agree. While I prefer to get physical as often as I can on Switch, it's not always possible. So as much as I dislike the idea of most games going digital only, eventually I'll have to deal with it.

I just recently learned that Alan Wake 2 is digital only, and that's a major AAA 3rd party game as just one example.

I've primarily stayed away from PC gaming due to its inherent issues of cost and almost always games are in need of a lot of tinkering depending on the type of PC one has.

The Steam Deck, while not perfect, has alleviated a lot of the tinkering, at least a lot of the more complicated tinkering, for me at least.

I wouldn't be surprised if the next Switch is as powerful or actually outperforms the Steam Deck in power, but that will only last so long.

The Steam Deck, or PC in general has Backwards Compatibility going back a long time, and the Xbox/PS5 also has a long list of backwards compatible games.

Another plus about the Steam Deck is the ability to return games. A process that is archaic on the consoles. Something that I'm sure most people who just purchased Mortal Kombat on Switch would love to take advantage of.

Re: Soapbox: 'Switch 2' Doesn't Really Need Backwards Compatibility

Kang81

No backwards compatibility, no buy for me. I've grown disinterested in Nintendo's catalog of games over the past decade. I still buy them, but they haven't been must buy games for me in a very long time.

My Switch has a ton of games I've yet to finish, so if Nintendo decides against backwards compatibility, I'll have no need for a Switch 2. I'll just make my Steam Deck my permanent handheld console.

Re: Round Up: Developers React To Unity's New 'Runtime Fee' Policy

Kang81

@Cashews

You seem to be triggered. Would you feel the same if whatever company you work for goes under because of poor decisions, wherein you lose your job and ability to provide for your family?

I'm sure people have more concerns to worry about than your ability to work and provide for your family as well. You sound like a great person. 🙄

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' Gamescom Demo Supposedly Had Zelda: BOTW Running At 4K 60FPS

Kang81

4K and 60fps?
Nintendo?

Nah, Switch 2 will be a other console far behind in tech.

It will sell like crazy, I will likely buy it, unless it doesn't have backwards compatibility, that is a deal breaker for me. I'll just stick with my Steam Deck and eventually it's successor if it's too weak and doesn't include BC.

Nintendo exclusives ar no longer a big enough draw for me.
