Re: Pokémon GO Has Made Over $1bn In 2020, Making This Its Best Year Yet

Kang81

I find it crazy that a game where you go out an about, likely in crowded places at some points, made the most money during 2020. The year with a worldwide pandemic, where people are encouraged to avoid going places as much as possible and avoid others as much as possible.

Aha! So its Pokémon Go players that are spreading Covid 19 everywhere! Thanks a lot!

Re: Review: Torchlight III - A Rewarding Dungeon-Crawler That Plays It A Little Too Safe

@Coxula

I thoroughly enjoyed what I had played of it so far. Havent played it since the first month it released on Switch though.

I'll have to check if it has co-op, it'll be perfect for my brother and I.

If memory serves me right, I was probably a few hours into it. The last I recall, I made it to what seemed like a small Gothic city with an introduction to vampire enemies.

What I liked about this area was that it introduce a bit of verticality to the game. Wall hopping to higher ledges was fun, albeit it underused. Just another reason why I enjoy the isometric Tomb Raider games so much.
Its something I really want to see utilized more in Diablo style games.

If its made by Airship Syndicate, I am interested. I love their games and the work they did on Darksiders before THQ and Vigil's demise.

As for the setting, I have always enjoyed the art direction and animations of LOL, never cared for MOBA'S, but I'm down for learning about the setting. Besides, anything to do with seaside towns and ports and any pirate type vibe I am down for. Its always a Pirates life for me.

I'll never support game streaming this way.

If Nintendo adds a streaming service akin to XCloud/PSNow/Stadia, I'd be tempted to try it out if reasonably priced.

I have XCloud since its now included with GamePass, which I have for another year or two because of the $1 upgrade deal from around a year ago. I honestly rarely use it, but it works surprisingly well on my internet service. I get download speeds over 100mb/s but horrible upload speeds with Xfinity.

I signed up for the free Stadia trial just to try the Immortals Phoenix Rising demo, and it worked just as well, and I enjoyed the game.

Streaming has its pros and cons, but as long as its only an additional option, I'm ok. I never want an all streaming future of games.

The biggest benefit of a Netflix of gaming on any platform is the ability to play games one would otherwise ignore. I know for certain I've played games on GamePass I never would have taken a chance on otherwise. Not only that, but the service acts as a great way to demo a game before you decide to purchase it. I've sorely missed game demos, so thats a big plus for me.

I've used GamePass to demo some great games I ended up buying on Switch.

Re: Hands On: Immortals: Fenyx Rising Could Be The Switch Adventure You Need This Holiday

Kang81

@dres

I admit, Stadia worked well for for my first time trying it. I could never go along with a streaming service if I had to outright buy the games though.

Xbox's streaming option I could tolerate as a 3rd choice, even though I'm not fond of games being rotated out so quickly.

If Nintendo would just put out the option of a high end Switch Pro, I'd be all over it. I highly doubt they would ever put out a Switch thats even on par with a PS4/XB1, but I can dream. I wouldn't even care about the battery life, because I'd just carry the charger with me on with a large battery pack.

Re: Hands On: Immortals: Fenyx Rising Could Be The Switch Adventure You Need This Holiday

Kang81

I should point out, Immortals Phoenix Rising takes advantage of Ubisoft's new UPlay rebranding to Ubisoft Connect.

So Immortals will take advantage of cross platform saves.

Of course this would mean buying two copies of the game.

Still, being able to play at home on a PC/PS4/XB1, and then pick up right where you left off on the Switch while out of town or what have you is a really nice thing to have.

@Kynwal

Boy do the BotW fans always get defensive with any mention of the weapon durability system being a bad design choice. 🤷‍♂️

I have no desire to finish BotW for the same reason, plus lack of story, dungeons, excessive rain ruining the climbing, etc.

The thing is, I'm not bad at the combat, but thats an irrelevant point. It doesn't matter if someone is good or bad, the weapons still break after the same amount of use, and I grew tired of fiddling with the weapon select quick menu every few minutes of heavy fighting.

BotW is highly overrated.

I played the Imortals demo on Stadia last night, and its a lot of fun. Is it a masterpiece, or best game ever made...no. Is it fun, does it look and play good...a resounding yes so far.

Thats all I need. BotW fans can keep their precious game, I'll play something else. Now I hope BotW 2 fixes my issues, but if it doesn't, Oh well. I still have a ton of fun Zelda games to go back and play instead.

Re: "Nintendo Isn't That Smart": Pachter Says Nintendo Should Scrap Switch And 'Only Have Switch Lite'

Kang81

I haven't seen this guys name mentioned in ages. I didnt know he was still relevant to the games industry. If he ever was.

I'll admit, I dont know if I ever docked my Switch even once, possibly the day I bought it, but I cant remember. Regardless, yeah I play it in handheld mode exclusively. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate the functionality of the Switch, and I genuinely want it to stay that way.

Re: Hands On: Immortals: Fenyx Rising Could Be The Switch Adventure You Need This Holiday

Kang81

I was excited until I read this was streamed from a PC build.

FYI: Google Stadia has a demo for the game. I just signed up for a free month trial via the Android app to test it for myself.

I'm really looking forward to playing this, I just hope the Switch version plays well and looks decent. If it pulls of performance similar to BotW in the end, I'll be playing this on Switch.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Local Wireless Multiplayer Games

Kang81

@DTfeartheBEARD

I'll add a few more.

Nine Parchments (though its not amazing)
Torchlight 2
Victor Vran
Titan Quest
Torchlight 3 (out tomorrow, but I dont know how good it is)

All will scratch that Diablo itch. Nine Parchments less so though.

Snipper Clips
Luigi's Mansion 3

Warframe, although it will require an internet connection.

Re: Postal Redux Has A Hidden Cheat System On Switch - Here's All The Codes And How To Input Them

Kang81

@Dm9982

My proudest gaming moment of my youth was beating Mega Man X. I was able to get to the final stage of Sigma numerous other times, but never beat him again.

Thankfully I had my brothers watching for proof. Ha

My biggest gaming fail...Super Mario World Special Zone 2: Tubular.

https://youtu.be/iC_29UvPP7k

My brothers and I had been trying for weeks to best the level. One day, after taking turns for hours, I was able to make it the the final platform with a bit of cheating by cape flying above the level as far as I could before being forced to use the balloon mechanic on Mario.

When I touched down on the platform, final checkpoint flag in sight only inches away, I put the controller down to calm my nerves as we cheered.

A few moments later, I picked up the controller and...pressed the wrong direction, plummeting Mario to his doom and finally breaking our spirits. D'oh! 🤦‍♂️

Don't think we ever tried again after that. 🤣

Re: Postal Redux Has A Hidden Cheat System On Switch - Here's All The Codes And How To Input Them

Kang81

@Dm9982

Oh, I dont think I ever beat Contra. I wasn't much of a gamer in the NES days, I didnt get hooked until the SNES. In fact, I may have played Contra without the infamous cheat code. Which explains why I never beat it. Ha

One day I plan on trying TMNT again, I never was able to get much further than the underwater electric seaweed/bomb maze. I'd usually die shortly after completing that nightmare level.

Re: Review: Cloudpunk - An Evocative Noir Adventure Ruined By A Messy Switch Port

Kang81

@Dm9982

Thanks, no rush, but I appreciate it.

I believe the framerate issue mentioned progressed the more you played. Hopefully something that can be patched quickly.

Yeah, the $30 price is what gave me pause. Not that it can't be a good value at that price, but these Metroidvania's have been hit or miss lately.

Speaking of which, I think that may have been a other criticism. The game may be more linear than the typical Metroidvania. Not a deal breaker, but something to note.

Thanks again, really appreciate it! 👍

Re: Review: Cloudpunk - An Evocative Noir Adventure Ruined By A Messy Switch Port

Kang81

@Dm9982

Thanks for the info!

I had seen a few, none from places I usually go for reviews, but I found it odd its been out a few days and Metacritic only has 3 reviews and last I checked no user reviews. (I only use Metacritic as an easier way to read reviews by following the links to the reviews)

I've had my eye on it for quite a while. I watched a review on YouTube, I think it was from SwitchUp, and it seems decent, but it had a few issues. The only one that worries me was the framerate. So I'm watching for more reviews and news of a patch.

Did you get it on Switch, or on something else?

Re: Ori And The Will Of The Wisps Launches On Switch Today

Kang81

Games Industry...take note, surprise announcements with the wording, available later today, accompanying said announcement, we need this more often. Please!

I bought Ori digitally on Switch, I'll buy the sequel as well, but im also getting that collectors edition. Its gorgeous, and the first collectors edition I've seen in ages that looks justified.

Re: Ubisoft's Summer Blow Out Sale Is In Full Swing On Switch eShop (North America)

Kang81

@Not_Soos

Really? I didn't know that. I never went back to Legends after the game required me to literally rotate my WiiU game pad while playing those horrendously designed Murphy levels requiring the equally horrendous motion controls.

It left such a sour taste in my mouth, I dont even want to play my free copy on PS4, where motion controls aren't a concern.

Motion controls need to be an option from here on out, I refuse to buy a game that forces them.

Re: Ubisoft's Summer Blow Out Sale Is In Full Swing On Switch eShop (North America)

Kang81

@WoomyNNYes

True, but no analog triggers kinda hurts it for me.

However, the main reason I'm skipping Trials on Switch, no matter how cheap it gets, is that I don't want to destroy my Switch.

I use my Switch exclusively as a handheld, and the last thing I want is to be tempted to throw it, or squeeze it so hard I snap the joy-cons off the side. Though truth be told, its also why I just stopped playing Trials after Evolution.

I will no longer allow games to frustrate me to the point I go crazy. 🤪😆
