I mean, I knew I didn't listen to modern pop music, but damn, I didn't realize just how much I wasn't listening to it. There are more artists on that list that I haven't even heard of than those that I have, not to mention the songs themselves.
This is downloading as we speak. Not because of this review, but because I started last night and I'm out of high speed hotspot data. But I'm still glad that the review suggests I decided well.
This is good news, but between having gotten Horizon Chase Turbo recently enough that I'm still unlocking tracks, and pre-ordering Inertial Drift (too intrigued by the idea of a twin-stick racer not to check it out), I'm set for arcade racing for a while, so by the time I get around to this one the promised modes will likely no longer be merely promised.
@Twinsen I'm waiting on a review (and since I recently got Horizon Chase Turbo I'm in no hurry) and will probably get both eventually anyway, but I'm the same way, going for Inertial Drift first. The concept of twin-stick racing is just to intriguing to pass up.
@Ratking I'm curious ... just how, exactly, are parents supposed to do what you think they should without a database like this to help them? What about this is "way for parents to be lazy and not do their job" instead of "tool required for parents to do their job"?
@XiaoShao If Nintendo fans interpret silence as anything other than the obvious lack of something to say, that's on the fans, not the company. Nintendo is not responsible for placating neurosis.
Crunch is a huge problem in video games. From everything that I've heard, and from everything I haven't, Nintendo avoids crunch, and (in that respect, at least) treats its employees well. So it is always disheartening to me when people like @Grandiajet (and everyone else in this thread) interpret Nintendo continuing to treat its employees well by granting them the extra time necessary to work under pandemic conditions as struggling instead of what it actually is, refusal of abuse.
@Agramonte What does pinning your hopes on a game even mean? Unless you're a developer and you are literally talking about potentially going bankrupt, it sounds like nothing but Building A Disparaging Narrative Designed To Persuade The Ignorant.
@Agramonte So sell your Switch and be done with it. You don't even have to tell anybody. You can pretend to still own one and disparage it to your heart's content, since for whatever reason criticizing something you don't like is so important to you.
@Ralizah I don't either, but I do put stock in common sense. Japan loves portables + Japan loves Monster Hunter = Japan would love Monster Hunter Switch. Of course, Capcom has shown a tremendous ability not to have common sense, but even a passable Monster Hunter would become the best selling third-party Switch game in Japan with no difficulty.
@sketchturner Given how many phone games look like they'd be fantastic if they were merely on a system with proper controls and had proper monetization, when you say that about a game on a system with proper controls and having proper monetization it's not quite the slight you seem to be intending.
I am confused as to why you think I didn't know what the title was. Especially since the presense of "Bowl" makes it clear exactly which sport is featured.
@nessisonett @Kalmaro Whether you love him or aren't really a fan, if you read the recent GQ interview with him you will find a new level of respect for him, simply for the way he prepares Piccolini Cuscino.
@dewokkel And that's another bullshi[redacted] attitude I've had just about enough of. If you care at all about the video game industry, as opposed to being a needy consumer demanding product without any thought, regard, or consideration for the people producing it, you understand how huge a problem crunch is; how problematic it is when the head of Rockstar brags that developers were putting in hundred hour weeks leading up to the release of Red Dead 2, or the conditions which led to similar stories about Naughty Dog prior to The Last of Us 2. Not a day goes by without new tales of exploitation in the industry. They're told of every major publisher, of every major developer, except for one--Nintendo. And considering how much their self-professed fans love to criticize them, you can be certain that if neither they, nor their critics, nor independent observers are telling those tales, then there aren't tales to be told. You can be certain that Nintendo actually lives by the creed represented in Miyamoto's famous quote in the way it treats its employees.
That is under normal circumstances. In case you haven't noticed, circumstances aren't normal. Marcellus Wallace could tell you how abnormal they are. Under current circumstances, work takes more time and effort than it used to. A company that gives its employees sufficient time will have to give more than it used to, or demand more effort. It is clear which Nintendo has chosen. It is also clear which companies whose products are still on schedule have chosen.
Your complaint translates to "Other companies are abusing their employees; it's ridiculous that Nintendo isn't too." You have utterly misidentified what in this scenario is ridiculous.
@invictus4000 I don't get people. When rumors fly about everybody (rightly) points out that that's all they are, but they get their hopes up regardless, and then when they're not met for some reason they blame Nintendo and not the rumor mongers for spreading false information, nor themselves for falling for it. You write "THE August Direct" as though Nintendo has promised such a thing; but they haven't. They've never said or done one thing to suggest some full, proper (whatever that even means) Direct is coming. Judge this Mini for what it is; if you aren't interested in the games, so be it. But if you're disappointed because there wasn't a Breath of the Wild 2 trailer or anything else that has never been promised, that's all you.
@Agramonte Dude, just stop lying. You've made it very clear that you get your third party titles on one of your seventeen other systems--you haven't made it clear how you get them on launch day and for about two bucks at the same time, but that's for another time--so stop pretending you don't buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games. I know that would cut into your ability to spin your pet narrative about what a bad company they are, but you'll feel better.
I remember some of these games from when I first got a smartphone. I thought they looked pretty cool, apart from the virtual controls which I've always thought made games unplayable. I clearly missed whatever they brought to the 3DS, so I'll check them out now.
@Bunkerneath It's like shuffling a deck of cards or rolling a die. It's random.
@Ulysses The semantics of definiteness are indeed fascinating. But using them in a public forum to prove one's superior linguistic competence isn't the best look.
@NotTelevision If you want fresh ideas, indies are the best place to find them. This is an article about indies. So why did you use it as occasion to complain instead of celebrate being given what you seek?
But I thought that only major AAA games that weren't available on other platforms counted towards determining whether or not the Switch was worthwhile...
@RainbowGazelle Fine. One publisher took seven of the top ten, and one developer six. But by all means, pedantically point out the flawed semantics of the headline if you think that will help you dismiss Nintendo's impressive performance and spin yet another anti-Nintendo narrative. I swear, I don't understand why people who don't like something feel the need to visit fansites and antagonize those who do.
Already bought the collector's edition of Giraffe and Annika and downloaded A Short Hike and Raji, will buy Phoenotopia and Inmost, and Spiritfarer and Manifold Garden are on the wishlist. That seems like enough for one week that also has really good sales on older games as well. [empty wallet emoji]
@GiygasAF Let's see here. @CupidStunt is the one who: called the PlayStation presentation incredible, straight out said indie announcements aren't gaming news, and doesn't understand the difference between a once in a generation console reveal and standard mid-generation information, and used that to spin a narrative. So who's the fanboy?
@Kalmaro On the off chance that nobody has ever explained to you that buying a game doesn't obligate you to buy any DLC, let alone all of it, buying a game doesn't obligate you to buy any DLC, let alone all of it.
I prefer physical, but I buy digital with no hesitation because, since I don't resell, there's no real difference. Video games are a digital product, after all.
@zool So @TheFullAndy has no idea how well Paper Mario sold because he himself hasn't bought it. That's...not how it works.
Also, let's explore your argument a bit more. You think that the game is garbage, but you are also talking about it, which you've made clear that you believe that one is only entitled to do if he has bought the game. Therefore you are announcing to the world that you buy garbage. It doesn't really give you any credibility.
