@Agramonte Insisting the Switch isn't a home console for the 37th comment in a row hasn't brought your newest hot take talking point any closer to being true.
This is actual game preservation, unlike business models like Limited Run's. Printing 1,000 copies so that in twenty years there will be one copy on eBay for $249 isn't preservation, it's exploitation of FOMO.
@Dakotastomp It's just that every time I've read a quote or interview from them they come across as really arrogant and unlikable. There's no reason to expect or insist that everyone's experience be the same as mine, but that has been mine, and I've learned to listen to my instincts.
Everything about Team Meat rubs me the wrong way, so Meat Boy's inclusion is a staying-away point, not a selling point. The only character whose game I've played is Shovel Knight and he's in Blade Strangers, so I'm set if I ever need to brawl against him.
I still have my Wii U hooked up, and I still play it, but that's because I still have every system I own hooked up on general principle, and I've been going through a Wii backlog phase and got it into my head that it runs Wii games a bit better than my Wii does. If I got rid of it I'd lose access to about a dozen games, most of which I could buy elsewhere and just haven't yet. There's really little reason not to just retire the poor thing and be done with it.
@whizzkidd Let me guess...you're counting Breath of the Wild as a Wii U game but not a Switch game for this criterion. Even if that were true, which it isn't, your assertion is still false. The Switch has a better library, no matter how much you skew things in the Wii U's favor.
@whizzkidd Since there are zero ways in which the Wii U is better than the Switch, I'm certain that your assertion is incorrect, but you're going to have to explain what a "first launch" game is so I can know exactly how.
I personally found it gratifying that Daisy gets her own bracelet. She's come quite a way from simply filling out the roster in B-tier sports spin-offs.
@XenoShaun Not buying until there's a sale of more than 10% off isn't exactly the best look either. Consumers are entitled to demand value for their dollar, of course, but they never seem to acknowledge that producers are simultaneously entitled to demand value for their work.
@Retro_Player_77 At this point I expect Monster Hunter to be the next franchise represented in Smash. Not that it would be needed to help sales of either game in Japan. Jeebus those numbers are going to be insane. If I were Nintendo I'd ship all hardware to Japan that month, and if I were Sony and Microsoft I'd ship all hardware west.
The thing is, if Nintendo released a line of Super Mario fragrances that were composed by professional perfumers and priced reasonably — which in this case actually means at least five times more expensive; this is so cheap it can only be garbage — I'd consider them. No reason not to welcome interaction between some of my hobbies.
If Monument Valley came to the Switch I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Of course I wouldn't pay more than two bucks, since it lasts about an hour and the "puzzles" are laughably easy. But that hour is amazing.
@ClayArcher23 The most likely Zelda character would be Impa. She goes back to the original game. Not to mention being the biggest badass in the first Warriors game.
@Lordplops Nice labeling of a statement in an attempt to passive-aggressively get me to retract, a typical ploy of people who argue using bad faith techniques. I'm not in the mood. You were insulting, simple as that.
@Agramonte Seriously, why do you insist on typing "go" in all caps? Or, for that matter, capitalizing "home console", "home", and "bus"? Are you parodying yourself in some sort of metacommentary that only Magritte would understand?
@HeadPirate Those claims are going to be supporting data if you expect people to accept them. The idea that a significant number of people respond to peer pressure through nonconformative purchases, instead of either conforming or ignoring the pressure entirely, sounds like it was extrapolated from your own experience, not derived from data.
@NightBeast That's easy, and it's not the reason @Lordplops gave. Porting, like all programming, is incredibly difficult, and not only do the skills of the team doing the work matter, but the resources they have available, primarily how much time and money, make a huge difference. Like with any product at some point you have to stop spending, put it on the market, and start recouping your investment. It's simple economic reality that applies to software no less than any industry. Anyone who gives you a lazy developer narrative is ignorant, not to mention insulting to the developers themselves.
@Friendly If there are Doomguy dolls to collect like in the first one, then not having them be Isabelle dolls in the Switch version is a major missed opportunity. I know that Nintendo is wary of how their characters are used, but that seems like a way to put her in Doom while being true to her. Doomguy must protecc.
@Cptn_Alex There is no such thing as a right someone has that they shouldn't enforce. If the police knock on my door, I have the right not to let them in, and I am under no obligation to let them in to prove that I have nothing to hide. It is my right, and my business alone what use I wish to make of it. Similarly, how Nintendo chooses to deal with copyright infringement is their business alone. They need justify nothing; they need justify it to nobody. They don't need to justify it to you, and they certainly don't need to appear to you to be dealing with it as they deal with other possible cases.
I find it ... interesting that being at just the right difficulty is a positive, and being too hardcore is a negative. I'm struggling to figure out how those can simultaneously be the case. I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.
@Bizaster Momotaro Dentetsu ("Momotaro Electric Railroad") is a boardgame-style game. It is not to be confused with Momotaro Densetsu ("Momotaro Legend"), an RPG series. It's hardly surprising that a western Nintendo is familiar with "densetsu" but not "dentetsu"; that was me until I looked this up last week, wondering if there was a typo in the game's name.
@Venus_Adept Too bad the developer is a liar. "Challenging but fair" my a$$. It's difficult as [redacted] and designed to punish players, and I'd have a lot more respect for them if they just admitted that, and acknowledged that that's the kind of game they were going for.
@horizonisland Three years in prison for bad things lasts a lot longer than three years for other people. Or it lasts just a few months before it abruptly ends.
@Agramonte "No games". The NCAA has done everything it can to ignore that there's a pandemic and play as many games as possible. They'd rather let thousands of athletes die instead of canceling March Madness a second time. Suggesting that a legal decision will result in no games is ... the least true thing you've ever said.
We need more games like the entire Wii library (shovelware excluded). In hindsight the lack of HD wasn't a detriment; rather, it kept development cheap enough that publishers could take more risks. Add to that a control scheme which forced developers to think differently (there's a reason necessity has been named the mother of invention), and the result was unique and creative games that I'd defend against any.
