After months of rumour and speculation, Nintendo has finally lifted the lid what must be the gaming industry's worst-kept secret of 2020: Super Mario's 3D adventures from the Nintendo 64, GameCube and Wii are coming to Switch in the form of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. Super Mario 3D World is also on the way in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
Updated with HD visuals for Switch and now available to play on-the-go, here's the lowdown from Nintendo's official press release, along with links to our coverage:
Super Mario 3D All-Stars: Optimized versions of 3D Mario games Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy are coming to Nintendo Switch in one package. In addition to having higher resolutions than their original versions, the games have been optimized for a smooth gameplay experience on Nintendo Switch. Super Mario 3D All-Stars also includes an in-game music-player mode to play the music and songs from all three games. Players can also listen to music on their Nintendo Switch systems when the screen is off. A limited production of Super Mario 3D All-Stars launches exclusively for the Nintendo Switch family of systems on Sept. 18 and will be available until approximately March 31, 2021.

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit: Created in partnership with Velan Studios, Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit brings the fun of the Mario Kart series into the real world by using a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite** system to race against opponents using a physical Kart. Players place gates to create a custom course layout in their home, where the only limit is their imagination. Race against Koopalings in Grand Prix, unlock a variety of course customizations and costumes for Mario or Luigi, and play with up to four players in local multiplayer mode. Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which is available in a Mario Set or Luigi Set, launches on Oct. 16 at a suggested retail price of $99.99.

Obviously, we've had the pleasure of Super Mario 64 in portable form already on Nintendo DS, and Chinese gamers have been able to enjoy Super Mario Galaxy on Nvidia's Shield for some time now, but it's great news that Nintendo is celebrating Mario's 35th anniversary in style with these Switch remasters and all these other announcements.
Finally, eh? Let us know below if this announcement is everything you were hoping for.

This is great news!! So excited!
It's a shame all the rumours and leaks over the months completely ruined what could have been an exciting announcement but good to finally have official confirmation.
Edit: Also no Galaxy 2 probably makes it a pass for me.
Ahahahaa some people were.. i won't believe it till I see it and had like over 75 likes.. now that person needs to eat his words. LMAO
This comment is one single “HAHAHAHAHA” directed at anyone whos been saying this wasnt going to happen
@Alucard83 I think word-eating is a bit of an overreacttion.
I just had a tiny orgasm
IT'S REAL!! OH MY GOD Imma gonna go broke
I wish Mario 64 ran in widescreen, but other than that, sign me up.
Mario Kart: Live Circuit
🤯🤩
Is anyone else slightly disappointed that Galaxy 2 isn't included? Great announcement though, I'll most certainly be getting this.
lets gooooo.m;ljm
I hope and pray that the 35 player Mario game is a tech test to see if 30 player F zero can hold up online.
Finally some really great news!!
Thank you 😀
Honestly shocked. Nintendo never seem to actually do the things that were rumoured for this length of time. Guess that means Switch Pro is real too 😂
Haha im actually really surprised they are releasing just ports and all in one collection. I can't say I'm that hyped now that the news is here, but I'll take it
Super Mario Sunshine on the Switch. AT LAST! WA-HOO!
🤘❤🤘
Physical??? Physical??? The pre order is already on eshop but nothing on amazooon
I hope we have the option of buying Super Mario All Stars .
@BenAV Still, they announced far more than the rumours.. count me excited!
I want to see more on this - how is FLUDD going to work in Sunshine, and do we need to use the motion controls for Galaxy?
finaaaaaaly! I am so happy with this presentation, THANK YOU NINTENDO, always worth the wait
Wait... the physical edition is a limited run and will only be available until spring 2021?
A Mario themed Splatfest? WHAT?!
What a direct, very very nice surprise!
I'm glad for the news of the inevitable. Nothing really 'new' about any of this. Remasters are fine but still... Hard to be upbeat about a battle royale Mario and a port of a game from the late '90s. Despite my bellyaching, I bet I will still buy it...
Wow, was not expecting that. I was taking a pessimistic view on this rumour
Happy days!
I'm glad I kept the thought "those rumours are nice but I won't get hype, will wait for a confirmation" because I got genuinely surprised and excited about the 3D All-Stars!
As I love Mario 64 and never played Sunshine neither Galaxy, I'm getting it for sure
I am going to get crap for this, but I am still disappointed. Higher resolution and updated control scheme. And that is about it? Not actually remade? Not even Galaxy 2 included?
3D World as another Wii U port?
...
Yeah, no sorry, not doing it for me.
At least we get a unique Splatfest.
Super Mario 3D All-stars is limited supply. Of course. It's Nintendo.
What a disappointment
@MS7000 it is still better then nothing, but it could have been better. But Super Mario Galaxy 2 tho...
I shouldn't be this excited for games that I've owned for 25+ years, but dammit I'm pretty excited!
Some nice surprises in there (Mario 35 Battle!) and definitely happy with All Stars being included on SNES online and 3D World + but I was hoping the 3D All Stars Collection would have been a bit more remastered, looks pretty barebones. Still gonna buy it of course!
Odd that it is a limited time thing as well.
This also definitely means there will be a general Direct sooner rather than later (I predict next week) as Nintendo has no big November/December titles announced.
@romanista I didn't think any of the announcements were particularly exciting honestly.
I wish Galaxy 2 was included.
@skulltulips
I am very disappointed. Galaxy 2 is amazing and if they are doing the first one they could do it all the way. Should at least be DLC.
Also Im buying this game twice physical.
September 18th?!?!?! HOLY COW IT'S HAPPENING
Mario Battle Royal here i come.
@jwfurness
To me it sounded like both the physical and digital versions are limited, disappearing at march 31st 2021.
Which, if true, is another remarkably stupid move from Nintendo.
OMG...!!! 🤯🤯🤯
I thought i saw Mario Kart 9 when i watched the gameplay i was thinking "Is that Mario Kart AR ?!"
Mario Sunshine on Switch, OMG...!!
I have never played that game but it great to see finally it playable in portable mode.
I have finished Super Mario Galaxy 1 Wii but it wasn't really fun to beat the Bowser so to replay again on Switch made me think twice.
Anyway, GREAT Direct on this month !!! 😁😁😁
I admit I was a bit let down when I saw Mario 64 basically looks the same, but it was nice to see Sunshine and Galaxy so crisp and widescreen
@Expa0 I totally agree. Anyone who cannot snag a copy in that window will be paying quadruple the price on eBay. Why would they limit a collection that so many people have been chomping at the bit for?
So, does someone want to explain why is a Mario remaster package going to be a timed, limited retail release instead of a normal one?
Pre-ordering as soon as possible!
Let me get this straight... a limited DIGITAL release?
@Alucard83 I think you are a bit salty they got so many likes.
I was expecting a bit more...
The 3D collection is a let down as it is just a slightly better port of the originals.
Excited for 35 players! Definitely buying!
@tourjeff some people will never be satisfied...
I’m all in on 3D All-Stars & 3D Lands/BF. Never played 64, Sunshine or Galaxy so i’m so excited to get the chance.
The Mario Kart Live has me really interested too. Me & 3 of my kids each own a Switch and I could see us having dome serious fun with this!
Super Mario 3D World is getting new content. I'm in loooooveeeeee!!!!!!!!
Not a new proper Mario Kart like I wanted, and I'm not really interested in getting whatever that is, but I forgive them as it looks innovative and cool af.
Disappointed that the Mario Battle Royale thing is limited.... Why? Also, don't see why the collection is limited either.... Nintendo being Nintendo.
Sunshine...yay. I'm smiling on the outside but dying on the inside
So now Galaxy 2 is going to be the only mainline Mario game not playable on Switch?
Very weird.
@ImagineerNik it's limited? NOOOOOOOOO!
Anyone saying they are not buying this because galaxy 2 isnt here is a spoilt brat. This is amazing news. Definate buy
@Ralizah I would've cut Sunshine for Galaxy personally
take all my F*cking money.
@KnightsTemplar ALLLL of mymoney.
@rushiosan a, I like the pfp, but b, yeah, kinda dumb. I buy digital, but I feel bad for the peeps that dont.
@Tuulenpoika The best i can come up with is FOMO.
Nintendo wants to boost sales for this fiscal year so they make a limited release of a highly sought after product.
Does not really make much sense to me but we need to have perpetual growth to make shareholders happy.
@HappyArtie The Switch is gonna be sold out for a year at this rate.
@Sinister people are greedy. That's MY explanation!
I just want to know if I can play Galaxy on my Switch Lite, it looks like it's joycon only
Shoutout to kids like this who told me Super Mario Sunshine won't be on the Switch.
https://i.imgur.com/raHSbsw.png
@MeowMeowKins I'd have cut Mario 64. The game looks and plays like hell compared to the others.
These comments shock me honestly. All stars for free with online.. Battle royal mario free with online.. events for free in multiple games.. cool game and watch / mario kart toy. And 3 amazing Mario games for $60 portable on switch? Be happy, this is incredible.
@jwfurness Very strange about limiting it... It could sell millions after marrch 31st 2021 so I really cant see why Nintendo would do this, it's basically leaving money on leaving money on the table...
As you say prices after this will go up so be sure to get a copy before then that's all I say...
@frabbit out of curiosity why would FLUDD work differently on Switch than it did on GameCube? The Switch has more buttons than the GC controller.
I didn’t play much of Sunshine so this announcement is super exciting for me.
@MS7000 completely agree with you.
All these ports are very basic IMHO.
The Mario Kart thingy might be interesting for younger kids but not very user friendly in most of the houses in Europe that have a smaller living space area.
Everything else was just 'meh'
Day one purchase. Good job Nintendo.
That was a hell of a reveal (and a tease - especially for Mario Sunshine the past year or so).
Woohoooo! 🐱
Finally, it’s-a-coming!
I am just waiting for Super Mario 3D World to be removed from the WiiU eShop any minute now.
Where are the naysayers now making fun of all the leakers and rumours? I knew that the collection and the Wii U port were both true.
@KnightsTemplar It’s underwhelming to not have the best game of the Galaxy pair, plus it costs $60 and will be a limited run. There’s virtually no excuse to not include it, and enough reasons for anyone to be disappointed.
@BANJO I just wonder what Nintendo's definition of limited is.
@Grahamthecracker GC controller has analogue trigger.
Did they forget about Galaxy 2 or
Also the ONE time a remaster would be justified and they couldnt be bothered
At least we have another Wii U game and a spinoff of a spinoff
I'm excited about the remasters and 3D World port. But I'm also excited about the other stuff as well. Not really a merchandise guy. But there are some really nice items that I may be willing to splurge on.
@Grahamthecracker Switch controller does not have analog triggers.
@UmbreonsPapa IMO, the Game & Watch looks really really cool!
@jwfurness Haha very true....
The Nintendo eShop has a Super Mario theme now!
A load of awesome surprises. I'm a bit confused about no mention for Galaxy 2 (are they merging the two games in one nowadays? Even the retrospective only depicts G1), but even if it's regrettably omitted, hard to look the gift horse in the mouth when you're finally getting so many past entries right here on Switch instead of shamanic dances around various emulators and controls on general purpose platforms. Home Circuit and a limited edition G&W unit, while of little use in my circumstances, look neat as well, and... as if Tetris 99 wasn't enough, did they just turn Super Mario Bros into a battle royale? NOW I've seen everything.😆
Switch is really amassing one heck of a library. :3
I doubted this 3D collection was real but I'm glad i was wrong! I own and have completed every single Main series mario game to date including the RPG's. Well i still have yet to play Mario and Luigi paper Jam but that's the only one i haven't got around to yet.
If nothing else at least this finally gets mario sunshine out there again for those who missed it! Also it's unfortunite that the 3D all stars won't include mario galaxy 2 but whatever. Still happy about this!
Yes! I've been waiting for this for forever!
What on earth is happening in March 2021 that means that nice things have to stop?
Battle Royale Mario looks great - I wonder if they took inspiration from that one online that did the rounds a while ago?
Love the Game and Watch system though I bet it'll be hideously expensive and hard to get hold of.
Physical Mario Kart has got legs - but seems like you will need one Switch per car 'additional games, systems and karts required for multiplayer' so that can bugger right off.
Pins... available in US and Canada only. Sigh.
Anyway, the news of the actual games is brilliant
I've never played Sunshine or Galaxy so I'm quite happy about this.
@Ralizah Very weird indeed. DLC? Unlockable?
It's amazing how they were able to keep this a secret for so long! Anyway, count me in for the 3D All-Stars, and the addition to 3D World will make that a purchase for me as well. I'm excited for the SMB 35 game (and a little disappointed it's a limited-time deal). My son will love the Mario Kart "AR" toys (though a little expensive) - that's a very cool, "Nintendo"-y idea.
Apart from Galaxy 2 seemingly being missing (unless maybe it's hidden away after you finish the first one or DLC something) the 3D collection is fantastic. Very excited to play through them again.
Definitely keen on that Mario Kart AR/toy thing as well - would be great fun in the office at lunchtimes!
Best Nintendo Direct ever! Much better than my expectations!
Mario Kart Live and 2020 Game and Watch looks amazing but is kinda pricey. But CAT MARIO AND PEACH AMIIBO?? And I thought I'd never buy Amiibo ever
Why is everything 'limited' ? F for respect for archivists and late comers to Switch.
And now I can take a deep breath and relaxxxx. Best news I’ve heard for a long time! My year/ life is complete xxxxxxxxx
Great stuff - hope that Bowser's Fury expansion is substantial and I'm excited to try SMB35. Though that being limited (along with the 3D All-Stars pack) is bonkers to me.
While im looking forward to trying Sunshine for the first time and replaying Galaxy (and later 3d World)... Im a little disappointed in SM64. Mainly because i associate Allstars with being more of a substantial graphical upgrade than just aspect ratio and resolution improvements. Would have liked to have seen the game in a newer engine physics-wise or at least highest res models.
@Alucard83 what's so bad about that person not believing every rumor? I also tend to not pay attention to rumors, otherwise chances are you'll be left dissapointed.
@Strumpan @jwfurness ohhhh so it would be pressure sensitive. Interesting. Like I said I didn’t get to play that game much because I never got around to buying it back in the day so I had literally no idea.
This is great! But where's galaxy 2? Why no love for that game?
Would also love to have seen a handheld collection too (land and new). But we got a good haul!
@Grahamthecracker Hey. So the GC had pressure sensitive triggers that determined how much water shot out of the FLUDD, and the Switch doesn't have the pressure sensitive triggers! When you're playing on the GC you use the pressure triggers to determine the height you go to when using FLUDD as a jet pack type thing. And also to control the power of the hose (so the distance the water shoots out) when just using it to clean graffiti and stuff.
I'm gonna need both the Mario Splatfest tees. I'm not going to make the same mistake like the Final Fest tees and only get one of them.
A bit disappointing, 60 euro for 3 12+ year old Mario games. Well since it is Nintendo it was expected to be overpriced. Would like there to be an option to get the games seperately, only one of the three I do not own is Sunshine. The Mario battle royale does seem a lot of fun though.
@MeowMeowKins if you are satisfied for ports with minimum improvements and a full price, then, it's good for you.
For a special occasion of their main franchise I was expecting much more care.
The Mario 3D collection doesn't even include Galaxy 2 for Christ's sake.
If they had done a complete remaster on these games and left galaxy 2 out I'd understand but no, all of them are nearly straight ports.
Regarding limited time...
"*While Super Mario 3D All-Stars can only be purchased until 31/03/2021, owners can still play its entire contents after this date has passed, and can also redownload it from Nintendo eShop if the software has been archived."
So happy the Game and Watch functions as a clock. THANK YOU NINTENDO!
Boy, who could've ever seen this coming.
...
tzahn
Mon, 12:59pm
September 3 could be neat.
...
What game is rated teen?
where the heck is galaxy 2 lol, i guess ill just go grab my wii to play all my old wii and gamecube games still -.-
I will get some of these things, but all I know is if they do the same thing for Zelda's 35th next year I will end up spending an ungodly amount of money.
@Sinister Yep, it feels incredibly calculating on Nintendo's part, and I'm really not a fan.
@skulltulips I'm pretty choked that it's missing.. 🙁
Tbh I feel like picking up mario35 and sunshine only
@Marios-love-child rigggght...... See what i did there haha 😁
@tourjeff I'm disappointed that there is no Galaxy two, but the rest is fine
@Ktld878 Twilight Princess
I'll take it.
The Mario Kart idea is brilliant. Had me clapping in my living room. Not that I'll ever get it, but it's really neat. I can see kids having a blast.
I'm getting that 3D collection like there's no tomorrow. And I'm stoked it's coming so soon! I thought I'd have to wait until 2021 for that. Full disclosure: I never played the whole way through any of them, so this is big news for me, a chance to fill some rather shameful gaps. Over 100 hours of Mario await!
Yes, some graphical updating would've been nice, especially for 64. But then again, I'm wary of remasters. Sometimes they're finely done, other times they overhaul the art style. And that I don't care for.
@Ralizah I mean, sure, but 64 still holds up if you get past that with it's tight platforming. Sunshine...just uses a water robot...thing to achieve easy platforming. And the pachinko...ugh
@Beaucine doesn't that take up a BUNCH of space tho? Not good for people in an apartment. Or is it just the kart, not the track?
@masterLEON did you get order? If you didn't...tsk tsk
@tourjeff but it's got some lovely 16:9 support going on there /s
After seeing all the modding of sm64 on PC with HD skins and higher polygon models, I'm left feeling that they've done the bare minimum.
@BenAV Disagree. I think Galaxy 1 is the superior game. There are some knotty underwater swimming parts, but besides that-- the music, story, and ideas are fresher and more creative than in SMG 2.
@MajorTom bro, that's less than 20 dollars a game. At GameStop, 64 Ds still costs 40 dollars. I wouldn't consider it a bad deal
@MajoraSmash it all feels...smoother in Galaxy 2. Polished, refined, it's like Nintendo KNEW what they were doing and hit their flow for 2
ALL OF MY YES
LETS GO
@Arkay don't pay them any mind, just probably salty no one has ever liked their comments.
Damn, the fact Mario 64 will be non widescreen sucks. I'm better off playing it on my N64. I'm happy these are coming out for everyone who's never played them but damn.
I really hate how the 3D Collection is a limited run release. EVEN THE DIGITAL VERSION.
Great news but my heart sank when I realised Mario 64 isn’t the remaster I was hoping for...
@tanaka2687 if you could pick different game art styles it would be more appealing. I'd prefer Mario 3 or World tbh
@MeowMeowKins Oh, I'm not bothered by the logistics of it because I live in a one-room apartment, so setting up a Mario Kart track here is basically science-fiction. I just like the idea, you know, in theory.
Cool! Nice announcements.
@MeowMeowKins Mario Galaxy is 20 euro as a download on the Wii U, same as Mario 64 but that one is just 10 euro. I really don't see how those two with Sunshine can become 60 euro.
Edit: let's also give other bundles for example. The remake of the Crash Bandicoot trilogy were 40 euro at release and those even were remakes instead of ports.
thank god all these stupid nintendo fans dont run nintendo "TheRE GonNA ReMAsTER ALL Them!"
nope just port them Get out your speculations ruin the industry
The porrs are ok but I'm actually more excited for everything else
What on earth is the reason for the limited availability? Seriously? Why doesn't Nintendo just ship them ALL to the eBay pirates so we can enjoy paying $500 for them? What possible reason could they have for imposing a limited window on this? Now I'll have to amend my expectations to IF I can get it, instead of when I get it.
Were they worried they might make too much money if they didn't slap a cap on it? Really, after months of speculation as to whether these would be real or not, who expected the issue to shift to "oh by the way, it's actually a collector's item you may never be able to find because people snap up as many as they can to resell at a profit"?
Maybe I'll try to get it, but I truly hate these frustrating struggles to find an available copy when they make limited editions. But I'll bet the resellers are already drooling in anticipation, and I guess they'll wind up making more money than Nintendo from this.
The Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. handheld will be released on November 13th in “limited production” for $49.99
Ugh. I have a working Donkey Kong G&W and will try to get this. Except I bet it is sold out by robot scalpers in seconds. :/
Wow. Pretty much wanted everything on that direct. Guess I'm getting all of it!
Even though I knew it was on it's way, still brought a tear to the eye.
Looks like on the Switch Lite, you will need extra joy cons to play.
"If playing on Nintendo Switch Lite, detached Joy-Con controllers are required and sold separately. See support.nintendo.com/switch/play for details."
Game & Watch: yes!!! Now let's just wait a couple of days - after the release, of course - so someone hacks this and allow us to install all kinds of GB/GBA roms on it!
@MeowMeowKins Well, the pachinko level sucks, but it's only one short, hidden level. The rest of the game is platforming bliss, IMO, and features some of the best level design and mechanics (I really liked FLUDD) seen in any 3D Mario game.
64 just feels clunky by comparison.
Wow Home Circuit looks incredible what a great idea!
@Ralizah they may have fixed some stuff for the virtual console, but everything was TIGHT! Sunshine, meanwhile, had repetitive missions, and the only parts I liked were when BJ stole your FLUDD
not exactly remasters but yeah! it finally comes to N. Switch!! oh yeah!! ...but really...SMG 2 should have been added to the list too!!!
@Guitario I thought they would, at least, remaster these games to bring their looks to the level of Odyssey and, perhaps, give players an option to play with the classic 'look' but nope, not going to happen 😑
@MajorTom You've got a point. However, you seem to be forgetting 3D world is in there. Toss that in the ring, and I think it's fair
A limited digital release? Is that right? Why?
@skulltulips Not slightly disappointed. Just completely baffled. They even skipped over it in the ending montage. And the original All-Stars had four games in it, so to have three in this one and just ignore Galaxy 2 completely is triggering my OCD severely.
@Beaucine yeah, I feel you. I have the space, but I am NOT setting that up so I can step on it at 5 in the morning when I go to get coffee
I think the limited-time release is for an obvious reason: they intend to add 64, GC and Wii titles to the Switch catalog (likely for purchase; not free to Online subscribers like NES and SNES) next year. This would make sense, too, given the rumors of a more powerful version of the system coming next year as well.
Either that, or they were planning to include Galaxy 2, but COVID delayed their development time on that remaster, so they want to release what they have finalized to capitalize on the holiday season, and will re-release next year with Galaxy 2 added.
I think the first scenario is far more likely, though it could be that neither is true and Nintendo is just being Nintendo.
@Giygas_95 HATE how they left out Galaxy 2. Best 3d Mario game, imo
@MeowMeowKins 3D World is a seperate release for 60 euro, not part of the bundle. The bundle only consists of Galaxy, Sunshine and 64.
@GrayFox787 Nintendo is doing the Nintendo.
Do the Nintendo! I meant do the Mario!
@MajorTom holy *****. Yeah, okay, not fair
Good grief! All the complaining on here! It doesn't matter what we get or what Nintendo does..... Argh
can anyone explain why this is LIMITED ??????????????????
@MeowMeowKins Me too. It makes so much sense to include it. And like I said, they skipped over it in the ending montage. Why are they acting like it doesn't exist all of a sudden?
Why spoil everything instead of putting the direct on top of the site?
@tourjeff @Alexface @SegaBlueSky @Zeldafan79 @nhSnork @LilMuku @MeowMeowKins @Ralizah @sinalefa @Grandiajet @BrintaPap @MS7000 @skulltulips @BenAV
Sorry, but Nintendo is not going to sell four mainline 3D games for $60. And an $80 collection is too expensive.
I agree with Ralizah (edited). Save Mario 64 for the NSO service and swap it out for Galaxy 2.
As others have said, they could make Galaxy 2 paid DLC or give it the full re-master treatment.
Wow...I was happy about everything mentioned in this direct. Super Mario Themed furniture for New Horizons? Yes please
Aww...I was kinda hoping SM3DLand would get a Switch release, but i will so get 3D All Stars, and 3D World + Bowser's Fury. Oh and i really must get one of those Super Mario Bros Game and Watch games.....
I've Always loved Game and Watch games. ^_^
@datamonkey 😔
Ha I told you so, I never doubted it at all!
*Glances at my past skeptical comments online
Not one second!
Incredible News!!! I will BUY ALL of it!!!!!!!
This was a looong time coming! I will check out the announment at lunchtime today. Sounds like a can't-miss preorder to me, but after all this anticipation, I sincerely hope it was worth the wait!
After all this time and all the info here they surprise drop it? Guess they figured the internet couldn't handle the live stream if they announced it in advance?
So we counting this one @Grumblevolcano ? There's a lot there, but it's still not a general is it? I haven't watched it yet, waiting to see it on my TV on the big screen.
@tourjeff this is exactly what I thought as well. And I thought they would've skipped SMG1 and included the sequel instead.
I don't want to be the "partypooper", but...
No Galaxy 2?
And an expiration date?!
Not so excited.
Interesting that they say limited stock and limited time a lot. Still not sure that this is a strong enough Xmas line up!
@Tandy255 They're pretty old games and they seem to have put as little effort possible into this collection so I don't think adding Galaxy 2 would have been so unreasonable. It's basically free money for them regardless.
Still wish they had announced a collection including the New Super Mario Bros games from Wii, DS and 3DS
@Guitario yep, Galaxy 2 would be a much better inclusion.
Well, let's hope they have a very good surprise for November and December to announce in the near future.
Positively surprised the 3 games are in one package, but massively disappointed by the lack of Galaxy 2.
Holy hell, and earlier today I mentioned that the 3D collection seemed too good of a rumor to be true...
@Tandy255 I'd be happy with either of those options. I'd just like a complete collection in one way or another.
@BenAV Wii games sold on the Wii U e-shop for $20. The VC sold N64 games at $10. Pricing Sunshine at $15 (conservatively), that brings the price to $65 if you include Galaxy 2 - without any of the costs for emulation, controller mapping, etc.
@Jimmmo In the little blurb about Super Mario Galaxy on their UK website, they specify that they are 'optional motion controls': https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch/Super-Mario-3D-All-Stars-1832369.html
🙁 slightly disappointed since watched images of the games in the official nintendo account, to me it looks as if this are the same games (no remastered or upgraded visuals as far as i can tell) 😕
Bout time. So... what's coming out when? scratches head
@MeowMeowKins The online orders will be up later tonight on Nintendo's online store. Normally, I'd just go to the Nintendo NY store. But I'm stuck on the road for work and can't make it there until Saturday.
Mario Kart and Labo unite!
Epic simply epic !
Mario Golf ?
@Tandy255 I might be wrong but, I think, at some point in the past, Nintendo released an All Stars with 4x Mario games so it's something that they have done before and by judging the 'quality' of these ports I reckon they could have included Galaxy 2.
Am I missing something? Really not getting the hype behind this, especially when these games are readily available on older platforms. These look near identical to the og games but shinied up and with minimal new additions, likely being sold for sixty bucks. Was hoping for a real remake but instead we get more ports. Yay?
@BenAV
Jeez, cry more. Never happy are you?
@Willsy What are you talking about?
Let's see: Ports..ports..ports, oh a new Mariokart! Oh, but its no for me (gimmicky with actual mini-karts). Where's Mariokart 9/Mariokart allstars? Or Mario Odyssey2/Sunshine 2. That would have excited me much more!
Where is Mario Galaxy 2? Why on earth didn't they do more work to improve Mario 64's graphics, the original four games got a bigger boost? I got a feeling Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is going to be the next big thing and might rival Animal Crossing.
@BenAV i agree people can be very impatient at times.
@GrandScribe Home Circuit is a cool idea but it requires the right space and will have a large cost so it's not the most accessible product. It'll make them a decent amount of money but probably no crazy sales numbers.
@BenAV
That does feel like an odd omission.
I'll probably get it anyway since i'd like to get back into sunshine and i'd rather pay 60 for all 3 than 60 just for sunshine when they start selling them individually; if they do after the march date.
@tourjeff Yes, they did (and it will be on the NSO SNES app later today), but those were all 2D NES titles. The LoZ also got a GC collection with the two NES games and two N64 games (missing the GB and SNES games).
Now we would be talking about one N64 game, one GC game, and two Wii titles. They could do it, but it wouldn’t be $60.
The Mario on the beach twitter posts were really hinting at Mario Sunshine. Glad thats finally put to rest.
Awesome news. Most excited for G&W and to have a reason to replay 3D World with some new content. All around great time to be a Mario fan.
This is kinda Meh...-news for me. I think I'm just very spoiled when it comes to remasters after the Crash Bandicoot N- Sane Trilogy, The Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled.
The Mario Remasters would be more interesting for me if they wouldn't be just simple ports in a collection.
Wow.
Did not expect to be wowed but I was wowed. ^^
Mario Kart Live looks like a riot!
@BenAV True I hadn't even thought about the cost.
Amazing news!!
I love the Game & Watch edition!
Just one thing is negative...limited edition for the 3D collection?
Why?
Holy ****! (So sorry about that) Oh my Gosh. I knew all along this was coming. A Direct is even perfect! Now I can finally rest up and save for a Nintendo Switch!
It's a great announcement and all but sadly take out all the limited stuffs and what we really got this gen was just a Wii U port of Super Mario 3D World.
Good. I’ll be getting this. After taking the first 8+ months off, glad something is coming
@BenAV 🙄
@Retro_Player_77 Then don’t take out the other stuff... 🙄
@kryptocookies ?
@PapaPedro That is awesome news! thanks for the info, i was a little worried as i only have a switch lite to play this on.
Hi everyone, like others I am surprised SMG2 is not included, but I liked the first better anyway. So does anyone know where we can pre-order the physical copy of this? Thanks
Best Buy has pre-orders up for the physical 3D All Stars, should anyone be interested.
@BenAV If you don't want to be spoiled, get off the internet.
They couldn't even remake 64 with 3D lands graphics. Shame.
@masterLEON Bummer. I'll probably get it sometime this weekend.
@Chamver If you don't wanna be an *****, don't insult people for no reason!
Too bad all the physical stuff is gonna get scalped to hell
@Tandy255 that wasn't me you are agreeing with. That's @Ralizah I want Sunshine to be cut for Galaxy 2
@Giygas_95 I guess they think it's too similar to Galaxy. Nintendo, skip Sunshine, not Galaxy 2!
@Chamver While that's certainly tempting sometimes so I can avoid reading dumb comments like yours, it's obviously not that simple.
@MeowMeowKins I wouldn't want them to skip Sunshine either. I want everyone to get what they want, and a lot of people would be disappointed if they skipped Sunshine. I just hope they add Galaxy 2 later.
Where do I sign?
Have I woke up in a world where Galaxy 2 doesn't exist?
@BitLounger thanks!
Direct was painfully Nintendo. Mario 35 is an awesome announcement, but only giving it a 5 month run is painfully disappointing. Porting SM64, Sunshine, and Galaxy is nice, but where is Galaxy 2 and why is 3D All-Stars a limited release. Why is 3D World separate? Cartridge space is the only reason I can come up with. Mario Kart Live was the best announcement, without question, simply because it has no direct detractions, but there's no guarantee enough will be made.
Was feeling in a bit of a funk today. This lightened my mood completely.
Many memories of Mario 64. My cousin had the Gamecube, and I only ever saw him play a little of Sunshine. Haven't played much of Galaxy. So....I know I will get and sink many hours into this.
I hope they don't pull the same ***** they did with the Metroid Prime trilogy on the Wiiu with the controllers. I'm not keen on being forced to play in dock mode for Mario Galaxy.
I knew they'd been holding out lol. Been needing some plumber action! The 3D remasters interest me the most.
Overall I'm satisfied with what was revealed. Of course I would like more. I believe any letdown feelings as usual was our own fault with these sort of things. We let our imaginations run wild to the point we actually start to believe what we've been daydreaming about for months. All the hopes, wants, or high expectations become real in our minds so when the actual reveal happens and it's not what we've all created in our own minds its easy to be disappointing some.
I am though on board with everyone else in regards to the confusion of "limited" time windows for the various games like Mario 35 (looks awesome) and 3D All-Stars. None of that make's much sense but then again it's Nintendo. They know what they're doing so obviously there's a method to the madness which I'm confident will be better explained down the road.
@Alucard83
Why? They've now seen it, and they now believe it.
They've not been proved wrong in any way.
day 1, preordering later today. now we need one from metroid. wow i love what nintendo is doing, i love my switch more then my ps4 and xbox 1 x.
@MeowMeowKins 😂 Thanks for the correction! Fixed.
@nessisonett,
I think there will be a Switch revision in the new year, this is pretty much due at that point in the consoles life, the pro aspect is a matter of debate, hope it is though.
My money is on the console being called the Switch plus.
Finally. Now we can concentrate on BOTW2 rumours 😅
instead of botw i'll get this and a switch lite for christmas considering this is only going to be here for a limated time
@kryptocookies You probably don't understand a single thing I just said. To a die hard fans like you this will be something but there are regular consumers out there who may likely won't be able to get the limited stuffs like the 3D All-Stars collection. There are some that may had gotten a Switch after March 2021 and never knew such a collection once existed. This is why I said that only the Wii U port of Super Mario 3D World is the only thing that's released here cause that one is a proper release.
Ports, ports, ports, ports, ports, ports..... And not even HD remakes!....Nintendo has been so lazy lately....Very disappointed....
So they aren't remasters then?
Just ports with higher resolutions.
Oh well atleast I get to try out Mario sunshine
@MikeW although I get to play sunshine for the first time, I agree with you that this is minimum effort/time and minimum cost.
I hope to god they have some other games planned for this holiday season other Than HD ports
😃🤤😃🤤😃🤤😃🤤
How am I expected to work 9hrs today after news like this?!?!
Have they erased Galaxy 2 from history?
Up on Amazon UK
Super Mario 3D All-Stars (Nintendo Switch) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08HF8KKT6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_wtruFbFJ10W6W
Easiest choice to pre-order I've ever made
@Franklin I thought Bee Mario was only in Galaxy 2? Am I mistaken? I'm pretty sure I saw Bee Mario in that trailer.
@Franklin They didn't even included in the "History of Mario" montage at the end! I'm so mad!
I'm more upset than I have any right to be, but I really just can't believe that would be dumb enough to leave Galaxy 2 out. Likely makes it a pass for me.
Only excited for Sunshine basically. So I guess I'll get it, just to not have to use my old GameCube any more to play it.
$180 in Canada after tax to play 4 old virtual console ports. Yay. No remasters, just widescreen originals. I don't know how anyone can defend Nintendo anymore. I don't care how much money they are making. I'm done with the Switch for good.
this is practically the crash and spyro trilogy but for mario fans and as a mario fan as well i am extremely happy 3 awesome 3d platformers repackaged for a new generation although i still like spyro better lmao
@Tandy255 the original all stars had 4 remastered NES games for the price of a single game
3D All Stars has 3 super old games that aren't even remastered
This is just awesome! Im super happy with this 😊
Also, that real life Kart looks awesome!
Can't understand why they wouldn't want to keep selling the 3D All-stars package indefinitely though. Sure, they will have massive sales during that time, but I still reckon they could have sold more if they didn't make it a limited time offer.
@Alucard83
Pass the ketchup.
@LilMuku Apples and oranges. Four 2D NES titles (requiring one emulator) vs Four 3D titles (requiring three emulators). They can do it, but not for $60.
They could have split it up. Have 64 and Galaxy 2 for $40. And Sunshine and Galaxy 1 for $40.
Any idea what the "Additional accessories sold separately." relates to for Super Mario Sunshine? I assume it could indicate Gamecube controller support. I think it was the only game that had that text appear at the start of its gameplay. Edit: it could just refer to additional Joy-Cons for multiplayer and the title in the video wasn't specific to Super Mario Sunshine.
...no Super Mario World?
@BrintaPap
What do you mean buying twice physical? Buying two copies?
Really awesome. I was starting to doubt the rumors, but glad they came to light.
@LilMuku I defend Nintendo with the pricing/content of the new 3D collection. However, I always thought the Link’s Awakening remake is way overpriced at $60 (I paid $45 for a used copy).
What's this? A Direct that's ACTUALLY worth watching?!
@Anti-Matter I’m glad there is someone here not moaning ! I’m psyched by a lot of this too!
I’m definitely getting the game and watch , very sweet.
Hmm, aren't we getting close to the 35th Anniversaries for both The Legend of Zelda and Metroid? Just a thought.
@Giygas_95 I'm saying that if they are DEAD SET on having just 3, Sunshine is EASILY the weakest out of the bunch. But yeah, they should just add Galaxy 2 and be done with it
@MarkyVigoroth It's just 3d stuff
@MeowMeowKins I do agree on it being the weakest. I just did it for my marathon, and I just got the minimum amount of shines to beat the game and then moved on to the next game. It's a very frustrating game I find.
So no Galaxy 2? That was the 1 i was hoping for that i never finished ☹️.
Eh, I was kinda hoping for the 3D games to have graphical overhauls, especially SM64. Still gonna get it, though, if only so I can play 64, Sunshine and Galaxy on the go.
I just hope that they make the camera on 64 and Sunshine work better. After playing through 64 recently for the first time in years, I found that I was fighting the camera more than Bowser and his minions. Ditto with Sunshine, even though it's been a while since I played that.
@RickD
I’m gonna get it solely as a collectible.
It’s the only reason I bought my NES and SNES classics. I played the NES classic like twice and I only pulled the SNES classic out once the day I bought it.
Other than that they sit on my shelf in their boxes looking nice and pretty.
@BenAV this. Even a separate release would be welcomed ☹️
Literally just yesterday I saw a bunch of Twitter posts and stuff where a bunch of people were all like: "This is too good to be true, and I don't believe it and anyone who does is an idiot."
Well... we SHOWED THEM!!!
@Alucard83 I'll take the "L" here.
but I don't need to believe "Rumors" to get your approval..
yeah, I'll be eating my words..
but I genuinely hate this rumor being true, if that means you get to rub into the doubters faces..
That Mario Kart game looks dope. Hopefully more racers are released and you can pair with friends tracks for a complete circuit. I look forward to seeing all the crazy courses people make and race on Twitch.
Mario Battle Royal is exciting.
Hoping Super Mario Galaxy 2 becomes DLC
@skulltulips galaxy 2 I hope as others said, will be available in March after they stop selling the all-star versions, and then start selling them individually on the Eshop. If not, it’s a huge missed opportunity since smg2 is one of the very best.
@Giygas_95
Sunshine is definitely the weakest. I forced myself to get all the challenge shines. Couldn't force myself to do the coin collectathons to get all the shines. This seems like a direct port. But if they actually reworked the camera it could do wonders for that game. Too often there would be precise platforming and the camera would suddenly shift obscuring my vision and basically leaving me to do the hardest part of the challenge blind.
@BenAV You enjoy the game more because there's no Galaxy 2 on it? Just because people like it?
I guess I just must be the only person who has old systems available to me that I actually play. I just beat Sunshine, 3D world, Galaxy in the last year. My kids are getting older and I wanted to play some of the games with them. I haven't beaten Mario 64 in a while but I have so many ports of that and I actually prefer the DS version the best because of the extra stars. Even as a collector it's hard for me to get that excited about this.
Nintendo "Fans": we wouldn't be pirating old Nintendo games if Ninty would make them legally available, we'd be happy to pay for them, why are they not re-releasing these great games?
Nintendo: okay, here are three of the greatest platformers in video game history, that'll be $60.
Nintendo "Fans": oh no, that's too much for a bunch of old games, you're crazy, how come they aren't remastered, and where is SMG2? Do you hate money?
@Thirteen1355 No I mean that I'm going to pass on buying this due to the exclusion of my favourite 3D Mario game. I probably should have phrased my post a bit differently to make what I meant clearer, my bad.
@cleveland124 Yeah the controls felt a bit clunky at times too. I also got annoyed at not having (to my knowledge anyway) Mario's crouch + back flip that's in some of the other 3D games.
@JasmineDragon
To be fair on Wii U, Mario 64 was $8, Galaxy was $20. So essentially it's $32 for Sunshine. Which seems high.
Mario 3D World was $20 on Wii U. So it's $40 for a download expansion.
Compared to other collections, it seems like $40 would have been a more fair price for each game. I'm the guy who has like a dozen versions of the original Mario because I rebuy it everytime it's packaged. But I just can't get behind this pricing.
@Don yeah and digital
@BigassToaster "Be happy, this is incredible."
I've long since given up expecting universal happiness about anything on fan boards. Nintendo could announce that they've physically built the entire kingdom of Hyrule and that a teleportation sensor secretly built into the Switch will allow people to go there instantly, and there'd be a bunch of "meh, still waiting on the Prime 4 announcement" posts on this board.
It's a shame Nintendo didn't include Mario Galaxy 2 in this collection. I'm so disappointed by Mario Galaxy 2 omission!
Will Mario 3d all stars be switch lite compatible?
@MS7000 I agree. I haven't been part of the hype for or against the release....I was hoping for a Sunshine remake at some point because it's the one Mario I missed, and running through Galaxy again would be great (64 just does not hold up...sorry...), but hearing the actual news, I was disappointed that this was an unannounced random direct dropped while nobody was looking - that ruffled me to begin with. But atop that, what was announced is so......basic? It's not remasters or remakes, or real updates of classic games....it's not even what All-Stars was for NES games on SNES with a big graphics update. It's literally just an emulated 64/GCN/Wii game running at higher res. That's it. It's BC in a fancy box. And for Galaxy 2 not to be included is bizarre, and disappointing.
I'm still interested in it because I've bee wanting to play Sunshine, and this is an expensive but at least available way to do it. But I don't have any particular enthusiasm at what was announced. I thought it would be cool for all these classic games to get a remaster rather than emulation.
Well I'm getting the 3D All Stars Collection and 3D World since out of them I only played Super Mario 64. Never got around to playing Sunshine since I had a PS2 and regrettably never bought a Gamecube and sadly got incarcerated in 2005 so I missed out on the other games. I'm surprised as well about Galaxy 2 not being in the collection and understand how some are not excited about these rereleases because they still own their old consoles but some of us don't. Growing up it was hard to keep any of my consoles and games since my dad had a drug problem so my stuff always got pawned. Even when my mom would do her best to get them back he would just repawn them so it was a losing situation. Also I don't understand the limited release window but I'll just try to preorder the 3D All Stars Collection in time. So people always remember that there are others who aren't as fortunate as you so these ports are a blessing. Stay safe everyone
SUPER MARIO 3D COLLECTIOn!
however, i'm gonna hold off on getting it until next month, as i want to get more snes mario games today.
Overall quite happy with this but there are some minor disappointments too.
The remakes of these have been given minimal adaptation to Switch. It's nice to own Sunshine again but I already have 64 & Galaxy on virtual console & downloads on other easy to reach & last gen systems. Unless you remaster these, it's not wholly different from playing the virtual consoles or originals.
Also it's a shame 3D Land has not been included as a remake with 3D World. I expect that would have been too much work.
The Game of Watch sytem is a neat idea but I imagine it will be niche.
Most living rooms in the UK are small, so having the floor space to play the mario kart game is difficult. There is always outside to be fair. It's a good idea.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is actually THE best Super Mario game for me and that has been excluded. Hopefully it's a DLC item. We shall see.
Overall happy but not ecstatic.
Really shocked by the shadow drop Mario Direct! I am forever charmed by Nintendo's delightful aesthetic, so I found this Direct highly enjoyable, and everything in it interesting!
I wonder if this counts as the monthly Nintendo Direct, or will we see another before TGS?
3D AllStars is a day one pre-order for me. I missed out on both Sunshine and Galaxy, and I have seriously intense nostalgia for 64. The fact that a dedicated music player is included makes this a no-brainer, since 64 houses some of my favorite video game tunes of all time. Had to go through Best Buy since Amazon is taking its sweet time to bring up the pre-order, and being a limited edition collector's item makes owning the physical copy a nice icing on the cake.
The 3D All-Stars May be a limited edition package, but the games will still be available to purchase after that time, I'm sure... probably separately.
3D World will get its moment in the spotlight for a at least few months in 2021, before any word on Galaxy 2. That could easily fill all the gaps until a new Mario game in a few years' time.
It seems like Nintendo have given up on humanity...and I dont ******* blame them.
Wow, Covid really has hit Nintendo hard if it’s limiting how much Digital product they can manufacture
64 seems to be based on the Japanese Shindou release, which added Rumble Pak support, changed some audio, and, most importantly, removed the backwards long jump glitch.
All in all, I somehow thought Turrican's mostly abysmal celebration announcement was actually better than this, mostly due to the fact that it won't be entirely a limited time thing and that Julian Eggebrecht said he would consider a real Turrican 4 if it sells, according to an interview on the 28th or so.
I heard about people being made about the limited release, but it's going to be available for six months. I'm not sure how you can be both excited for a game AND not be able to pick it up in a six month window. My only issue is I'm mostly just interested in Galaxy. I'm not really interested in playing 64 again and don't feel like I'm missing out on much with Sunshine. I'm guessing this is going to be $60, so do I want to spend that to get one game I want, or find Galaxy (1 or 2) for the Wii at a used game store for cheap and experience it in all it's fuzzy glory as originally intended?
I'm speculating, but it makes sense why this announcement was delayed after seeing how many physical products they're putting out with the 35th Anniversary announcement. I imagine COVID severely delayed the manufacturing of the RC cars and the Game & Watches, which in turn, delayed this announcement.
@Giygas_95 I think it's the camera that's annoying, but FLUDD doesn't feel good to play with either
@nessisonett let's hope! Gonna need the second switch for that Mario Kart game!
I think the best thing on this list, MarioKart Live is unfortunately something that for me isn't worth buying. I'd rarely have anyone to play it with. Also, I live in a VERY small house, so it would probably be hard to come up with a good set up.
I so wish they had come up with a sequel to Super Mario 3D World. Even if it was a "lazy sequel" where they simply took the assets from the first game and rearranged them into a similar game, but with different layouts to the levels.
Why is the collection a limited release? Nintendo games sell for years at full price, what are they doing?
@MeowMeowKins I actually enjoy the jetpack nozzle and the rocket nozzle. And spraying goop away can be pretty satisfying. It's a weird gameplay concept for a Mario game though.
Wish 64 and Sunshine got more graphical improvements and Galaxy 2 was included. Happy more people will get to experience 3D World, wonder if the new content will make it worth repurchasing.
Most excited for Bowsers Fimury as I still have the 3D collection of games. I'm guessing 64 doesn't have the DS content, sadly.
That's another good point I missed. This is time limited as a digital release? Why would anyone make a bundled game collection and only sell it briefly? let alone when it's heavily pirated verified classics? At this point, why are they selling this at all and not making it part of the VC subscription?
The more I watch the more 2020 is turning into the biggest gaming disappointment since Atari launched E.T. Nintendo's selling time limited digital BC collections and RC cars, Sony's selling DLC as new games on new hardware, Microsoft is selling sports drinks showcasing games they haven't made yet, and nobody wants to list a price for anything at all except Nintendo's limited time window to re-buy what you bought 35 years ago.
WTFingF?
@MS7000 I agree. I’ve already played Mario 64 many times and Mario Sunshine is totally overrated. Very disappointed that we’re just getting ports (and paying a premium for it again). And no Mario Galaxy 2!
will never get the hate for Sunshine, good to see it get another life on Switch
@MajorTom why compare it to other games? I don’t see your point.
Mario sells. 60 dollar or not. Also, first time you’re able to play mario sunshine legally if you didn’t buy it 15 years ago. That’s worth 30 dollars.
It’s a LOT of game you’re getting for 60 bucks. High quality gaming that is. Best there is!
Why do some of you have to find something wrong with everything? Is that how you go through life? You'll never be happy then. There are so many great games for the 35th Anniversary being released. It will be so fun to play them on the Switch. I really want that new Game & Watch!
Wow turns out published rumours were vetted and published because they were from reliable sources. Hopefully the rumour ragers can take a deep breath now
To Super Mario 3D world (+) - My exact words when I saw the beginning... " Yes, finally! Sh*t! It's about time!"
I've already pre-ordered the physical version of Super Mario 3D All-Stars. So excited to get this!
@FargusPelagius 30 player F-Zero online? Now you're talking!
I've never played Galaxy. I've only fleetingly played Mario 64, and I played a lot of Sunshine but I'd like to think they've tidied up some of the rough spots in the game. I'm definitely interested in 3D Allstars.
@WiltonRoots You will love Galaxy. Amazing game! One of my favorite Mario games.
Well I’ll be damned. I expected this. But I certainly didn’t expect THIS. Aside from my disappointment in Mario 64 being... the same... Sunshine and Galaxy look absolutely GLORIOUS. That said, Mario 64 is a welcome addition to re-live the journey to 120 since Christmas 1996.
That being said... a part of me feels like they would remake and revisit 64 from the ground up on Nintendo’s next console. The YouTube remakes are just too good. In the future. For now, I can’t wait to relive these games. Already preordered physical version. They’re sneaky those mother tuckers Nintendo.
This being released though shows we might get a holiday game... since this is limited for some damn reason.
$60 for Mario 64, which would be the only game that interests me on the collection. Limited until March next year. Great. Another way to create hype so that scalpers can charge you $350 for the physical game.
VERY hard pass, sadly. Would have been great if they released the games separately, so that those of us that don't like Galaxy/Sunshine can just get the classic without paying such a high cost.
I also cannot support this whole timed release nonsense. Why did I waste my money on a Switch? I normally don't regret things, but man do I have some buyers remorse right now lol
Pre ordered the 3D collection.
Might grab 3D World too.
Mixed emotions. I'd love to play Galaxy again, but I'm not so interested in 64 and Sunshine. I'd rather have seen Galaxy 1 and 2 together in their own collection. As much as I'd like to play World again, it's ANOTHER Wii U re-release... although the Bowser's Fury content has piqued my interest.
@nessisonett The pandemic changed the playbook for everyone this year.
Ordered 3D All Stars and the Luigi Kart Live. Expensive day. Never played Mario 64, Sunshine or Galaxy so this is great news.
@Friendly
Why should you not compare the price to similar products? (The games I compared it to even are remakes instead of up-scaled ports which makes it even worse)
I will never consider a port of a 15 year old game worth 30 bucks. I am not a fan of the direction that Nintendo is going right now with only releasing old Wii U ports for full price and now this collection.
Awesome, definitely getting 3D All-Stars and 3D World. I've hoping 3D World would get better than left to rot on the Wii U.
@MikeW
Don't want to 'look a gift horse in the mouth'; I'll still be getting the collection, but the absence from the video was the strangest thing.
@LilMuku really quick turnaround on that laugh, huh
@Retro_Player_77 Yawn. Lots of people, young and old, know about these games. Those who don’t will find out about them on the eShop. Simple as that.
That's nice! I will buy the 3D Collection but don't know whether to buy it physical or digital. I have lately enjoyed starting up games without having to switch between cartridges. What's certain is that I will need a 256GB Micro SD Card, possibly before the end of the year 😅
Cool and better than nothing. But would like to see a normal direct now.....
@Tandy255 so remakes are overpriced but a rom collection isn’t
That makes no sense, charging full price for three old games in a lazy collection vs a full remake
Remakes are definitely not overpriced, like Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver for example, they were worth every penny
@dw4smash you say better than nothing, it literally IS nothing
@LilMuku Some remakes are great and worth the price of a new Switch game. I was only speaking of LInk’s Awakening being overpriced. Had it been on the 3DS, it would have been $40, like Samus Returns (another GB remake).
The verdict is still out if this is a lazy ROM dump or not. It will be interesting to see how they control (especially Sunshine and Galaxy).
That being said, I do think this collection of three mainline Mario 3D games (N64/GC/Wii) is a better value than the HD remake of a single Zelda GB/GBC game.
@MajorTom a remaster of a 15 year old turd is not the same as a remaster of a 15 year old masterpiece.
Why should you compare the two even though they’re both 15 year old?
Edit: to clarify, not calling Crash a turd, just using turd for comparisons sake.
That Mario 35 game looks a lot like that Mario 100 game someone made a while back. Sounds like Nintendo got inspired!
@Friendly
Calling the Crash Bandicoot games turds just shows that you are a fanboy......
I guess you got nothing of value to contribute anymore.
Edit: Also this bundle does not consist of remasters. Those Mario games are up-scaled ports.
@MajorTom not calling it turds. Just saying that comparing the pricepoint of two things of the same age is just undoable. And i took turds and masterpieces as an example. So many factors are in play.
Edit: Tnx for the namecalling mate. Shows that you are not open for discussion. Says more about you than me.
@Miyamotosan I believe most physical games will start to become limited runs pretty soon, even the ones from big publishers. Games are digital now, that's just something to accept.
@Friendly That is why I compared it to a bundle of 3 platform games (both bundles are 3 platformers) that feature a iconic character (Crash and for this Mario). While those even were remakes for a lower price-point (40 for the remakes and 60 for the up-scaled ports). A lot of factors were accounted for.
I also compared them to literary the same games that released on the Wii U. (30 for 2 of the 3 games vs 60 for the 3 games total). You should expect that bundles are less expensive than buying the games seperate.
Giving the remasters of turds vs masterpieces example showed that you are not open to discussion since the comparison was clearly of the Crash Bandicoot remasters and this Mario bundle. Which showed that you obviously compared these games to masterpieces and the Crash remasters to turds.
Edit: Also if you really didn't think much further than giving a bad example like "comparing turds to masterpieces" then I am sorry for calling you a fanboy.
The direct was just 15/20 minutes of Nintendo reminding everyone why they are the greatest gaming company in the world. I'm excited for everything I saw.
Super Mario Bros 35 has a lot of potential. I hope it gets a lot of post release support.
Going to try and conquer Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels this weekend .
@Tandy255 “if it was on 3DS, it’d be the price of a 3DS game”
What
“The game is the price of games for the console its on” thats not an argument
Also an incomplete selection of roms should never under any circumstances be praised
@Tandy255 All Stars was FOUR remasters
3D All Stars is THREE roms
@MajorTom Each their own opinion I guess.
I have the nsane trilogy. It’s ok. Not a turd, but not a masterpiece either.
But other factors you have not taken into account is that 1) Mario is the biggest franchise in the world, absolutely incomparable to Crash in market size and revenue, due to quality of the franchise 2) Crash trilogy is a multiplatform game, much easier to lower the price since the install base is way bigger 3) When looking at Howlongtobeat.com, the amount of game you’re getting is way bigger when comparing it to the Nsane trilogy. Way more value for your money.
Also: Why don’t you compare it the other way around, say to the remastered version of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles? A gamecube remaster, multiplatform game for 60 euros? You could argue that 30 euros for Sunshine is a steal in that comparison.
@Friendly 1) Pokémon is actually the biggest franchise of the world but yes you are correct that Mario is certainly bigger than Crash (who for that matter only recently made a comeback).
2) Since the Mario bundle is a limited release Nintendo likely calculated the amount they have to sell for a big profit, and a remake also costs a lot more to make than a remaster (up-scaling to HD). But yes in general a multiplatformer should be easier to sell.
3) You are right that the Mario games take a bit longer to beat than Crash games (not by a that big margin if you only play the story mode). But does that mean that RPG games are worth a lot more because they take a lot longer to beat?
Also the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remaster costs 30 euros/ bucks. I also don't consider it worth it but since it is a single game it seems more reasonable for production costs since they also added a bit more to it than to the games in this bundle, like the extra dungeon.

Btw you made some good points, I guess the price for some games really is a personal opinnion like you said before.
I like to repeat that I am sorry for the namecalling, this is a nice discussion.
aaaaaand still waiting for a general Direct. The wait continues.
Not excited by any of this, specifically because of the insanity that is a limited availability period even for digital. It is nuts.
@MajorTom it is
And you also make good points. 1) I forgot about Pokémon. And to that I’d say that since Pokémon is repeating the same format without innovating, they probably deserve the flack they get for it more than Nintendo who is innovating the market almost every year. 2) Mario bundle being limited is very weird in my opinion. That probably is pure scummy marketing business right there. 3) true about rpg’s. Takes way longer to beat. I guess repetitiveness should be a factor too when comparing games? I don’t know.
All I’m trying to say is that it’s very, very difficult to compare games and therefore market value. If Breath of the Wild is a 10/10 but be 60-70 euro, how can a 6 euro game of 3 hours called a short hike also receive a 10/10? Is market value / price a factor there?
Why is EA allowed to ask 60 euro’s for a legacy fifa game each year? And microtransactions on top of that in the same game?
At least Nintendo is still holding (relatively speaking) back on gambling micro transactions. If they start going down that route, I will stop being a Nintendo Fanboy (cause we both know I am one, and most people on this site are one . So your namecalling actually is justified).
Also: i always thought that FFCC was 60! Maybe I will buy it for 30. Didn’t appeal to me for 60 and the scores were relatively low... But I never owned it on the Gamecube....
@Friendly
I have been a big Nintendo fan since the GBA, but some of the recent decisions of Nintendo aren't to my liking. Now that you mention micro transactions, the mobile games by Nintendo got some scummy practices. But at least they don't add them to their console games yet.
A big part of me not considering this bundle worth it is likely that I still got Mario 64 installed on my Wii U and Mario Galaxy physical for my Wii. I don't see the appeal of buying them again. Maybe if they had more visual improvements. XD
Since I am one of the less people that has a Wii U, it makes the recent and upcoming games for the Switch by Nintendo mostly games that I already played.
Edit: Btw I think I will stop commenting for now. I think I flooded the comment section enough for now. It was a nice conversation. XD
The trylogy has a limited purchase time because afterwards they will be included exclusively with the upgraded switch.
I mean... They are pulling them out when the new switch is suposed to come out. Also, the pro realease will be accopanied by the remaster of Galaxy 2 (with updated textures) that will demo the better quality of the new switch.
I'ma give my thoughts on all this real quick.
1st off, liked the direct. Was a huge surprise to get home to.
The All-Stars looks cool, although as has been said, I wish Galaxy 2 was in it. Maybe they'll add it as DLC too. And I'm fairly sure the limited release is physical only, there's no reason whatsoever they'd limit it digitally. I could be wrong tho, only watched the Direct once.
I loved 3D Land a lot and have been absolutely dying to play 3D World. I am in all honesty more excited for it than anything announced in the whole Direct. Plus a mysterious expansion...
Lastly, leave it to Nintendo to come up with something as quirky as that Mario Kart AR game. Strikes me as one of their products that looks iffy but also surprisingly fun. It's the exact sort of thing that Nintendo and only Nintendo would ever try.
So I'm happy about all this! It was an awesome announcement. In conclusion I'm definitely buying 3D World and maybe the All-Stars as well. Have yet to play Sunshine and Galaxy, so.
Thx Nintendo!
@MarsOne Cry more. At least Nintendo doesn't fill their paid games with microtransactions and lootboxes. I'M TALKING TO YOU EA!
@MajorTom Yeah Crash Bandicoot is terrible compared to the Mario games, always has been, not even close in the slightest. They have to sell that Crash collection cheap and pretty up the graphics because they're just not that great of games on their own, and nobody would buy them if they didn't.
@MajorTom I 100% agree with your last post. I do not like Nintendo businesses on mobile. Stopped playing FEH after I found out it is not possible to 100% it without paying for it. Same with MK tour and Dr Mario. I did buy Mario run though, and liked that actually . But yes, I also wont buy the collection. I have Mario 64 on my Wii VC, Sunshine on Gamecube (It’s very good!) and galaxy on wii. So I have the games already. But the collection would still be worth it if I didn’t own m all. I also don’t own a Wii U so all of those games are new for me. I agree that Nintendo is being very light on new releases currently...
@Friendly Sunshine is pretty much the only Mario game that I haven't played so far and I have always wanted to try it out for the right price, so I was a bit dissapointed that the option for buying the games sperately isn't available. Hopefully it will get a stand-alone release after the limited-time period has ended.
Have a nice weekend
@LilMuku Four nickels must be better than three dimes, because four is more than three, right?
Nobody has played 3D All Stars yet. I am reserving judgement until the game actually releases.
Ok, maybe my griping was a little overboard, since I seem to have gotten a preorder set with Best Buy. I still don't like the limited edtion routine, because it only benefits the scaplers/resellers and hurts the honest customer that just wants a copy at the true price. I guess Nintendo has their reasons, though. And it wouldn't be a Nintendo joint unless they throw in a little disappointment.
A visual makeover for 64 would have been nice. What was impressive 24 years ago is a mess of dancing triangles today. I guess purists would prefer it, but I'd love to see the game look as good as 3D World. Wondering why they couldn't even make it 16:9. Maybe that would break some areas for the camera.
I'd say the odds are slim to none that what they're calling "Galaxy" would be both rolled into one, but what does this mean for Galaxy 2? Orphaned and abandoned?
@RetroBox thanks. I’ve heard nothing but good.
@MajorTom you too!
Some great news to hear!
@skulltulips
I'm disappointed also! There was absolutely no need to exclude SMG2! I own everyone of these titles to this day. Yet I'll still be purchasing these bundles as well.
The 3D 'remaster' bundle is undeniably great! But why didn't they make it fantastic, simply by adding in SMG2?
They'll probably bang it out at a late date as a stand alone release, just to rake in some extra fiscal (which will annoy me intensely to be honest!)
It should have 100% being included.
@MeowMeowKins I got home early enough to go to NintendoNY and pick up the Splatfest Tees. They're really nice! The printing is solid and on both sides (just like in-game), and the shirt is bit thicker than their usual shirts. I also picked up the IRL Splatfest Tee Replica (I forgot they even had it) which was also nice, but it didn't have the printing on the back.
@Tandy255 yeah fair enough, I’ll wait until I actually play this collection of 3 games I’ve played to death over the course of 13-20 years before forming my opinion
@masterLEON oh, okay, nice! I'd probably never wear them, but I'm glad you enjoyed them
People seem upset with scalpers... physical games are always limited. They don’t print them forever. They stop eventually. It depends how many copies they’re making to say whether it helps scalpers.
The fact that digital is limited... well weird
