@NicolausCamp Exactly. This article and the ensuing comments are basically confirmation that I know how to take care of my stuff. Not only does my Switch look fine, my DS and Wii still work and are available for when the mood strikes me.
@ModdedInkling How naive. If Nintendo localized Mother 3 and made the changes necessary for the marketplace, the very fans who have been the loudest for fifteen years would be the loudest in complaining about "censorship", as they would insist on calling it.
I bought the limited edition of Poison Control, and that's enough for the week, but if this week is like every other week, about a dozen of the write-ups sound juuuust interesting enough to look at further, three of the games will go on the wishlist after being looked at, and one or two of them will eventually make their way onto my backlog. So I'm not going to pretend that I'm only buying one of this week's releases.
@ECHIDNA Analogue tweeted out the information yesterday, and sent out emails with the details yesterday as well. Only NL's reporting is coming on the 1st.
I'm confused about a few things. First, why an anonymous source is quoted with no skepticism or counterbalance, and second, why FOMO is now so exploitative, when companies like Limited Run are celebrated for the exact same practice, and allowed to spin their narratives of nobly preserving games, when in fact they produce a fraction of the number of copies that Nintendo undoubtedly has.
I swear, nobody criticizes Nintendo like their fans.
This is a fantastic concept for a feature series, one which I both hope continues, and perhaps leads to more reviews of these lesser known potential hidden gems. Discoverability is a major problem, and anything which helps deserving games find an audience is a good thing.
I'm also happy to see Barrage Fantasia here, which stands for me exactly as it does for the writer, as something I haven't yet played but which has caught my eye. I did watch one review on YouTube, which basically described it as a very good game in danger of being missed which deserves not to be, so I'm comfortable assigning it hidden gem status.
@Eel Also, when you edit comments, can you adjust the grammar so that it doesn't make the writer look like a [redacted] moron? There are accepted methods for doing that. If you hire a copy editor they'd be able to do it for you.
Might as well take this opportunity to suggest that people try Poi, a good 3D platformer that had the misfortune of launching at the same time as Super Mario Odyssey, and got completely overlooked as a result. Not sure what the publisher was thinking, to be honest.
@ZeldaFanboy78 Yes, so long as you know what you're getting. They're JRPG comfort food. They're what to play when you want something familiar that won't make you work too hard. They're perfect for when you're in the mood for the original Final Fantasy but kinda want something else because you've already played it a dozen times. They're not good--but they're not bad, and they have their place.
Technically none of them have arrived on my doorstep, but the three Smash ones will when Best Buy sees fit to make that happen, and the three MH ones are waiting for me to pick them up at my local [major video game retailer], so I figure since they're all paid for it counts for purposes of this poll.
The collector in me demands the manual. The pragmatist in me doesn't want the other inserts, throws them away, and wonders why anybody wouldn't. The box is a bonus but not a deal breaker.
Every now and then I get in the mood to buy some pinball tables, but I have no clue which ones are good. Might as well wait to see what these new tables are like.
I noticed that Summer in Mara isn't listed among the Moonlikes and Stardewbuts, which further calls this site's review into question, which criticized it heavily for not being as good as Stardew. Using how a game compares instead of how it stands on its own as the basis for a review is already problematic; but when it is based upon a comparison that the site itself does not maintain it is indefensible.
@Zuljaras Yes. If your Switch is offline it won't even know a patch is available, and even if it's online it gives you the option not to update. Which is in contrast to the PS4, which will never run software it knows there's a patch for. I've lost track of the number of times I can't watch YouTube videos because it won't let me until I install an update, which between their size and my download speed always takes all night.
I didn't pre-order because my local Walmart sells Switch games for $50, which is a large enough discount to make it worth waiting until they have it in stock (which is usually launch day anyway), but I did shell out for the amiibo because apparently I like figurines that much, so I might as well take advantage of them.
No, NintendoLife, not a mess. Commerce. I don't know their reasons, but I assure you that they have them, and they are fully entitled to act upon them as they see fit. If you wish to be considered as such, act as journalists, not as a fan site milking a narrative to promote itself.
@Strumpan When I come to a video game website, I expect the problems that I read about to be actual problems. Whether significant social issues like abusive crunch or rampant sexism during online games, or ramifications of the current economic structure of the industry like discoverability or race to the bottom pricing, there are plenty of problems worthy of a writer's focus and a reader's time. Japan-only merch is worthy of neither.
@xxMPJxx If you want to play it on a tiny screen with touchscreen controls and deal with all the monetization techniques, have at it. Like you would have said if you hadn't gotten it wrong, to each their own.
@Max_the_German Some newspapers treat headlines as titles and capitalize everything. The New York Times, for instance. The Washington Post does not. Both methods are acceptable.
(But for future reference, Eurogamer is not an authority on style. They may be using their own style guide, but I assure you that nobody else is.)
@WeirdAlUHF334 The original story, which means the original announcement, came on the 20th of February. It's unfortunate that you didn't know, but the information was out there last week; you simply missed it.
@PcTV It's not actually an opinion. You might argue in favor of one system of classification over another, but whatever system you use, opinion has nothing to do with anything. It is not opinion, for example, that chimpanzees are apes and apes mammals. Thus when you refer to my assertion as an opinion, what you are actually doing is admitting your own ignorance on the matter. That's to be expected, of course, from someone who preemptively insulted everybody who disagreed with them by proclaiming them to be "simpler folk".
The ability to play a number of these games on my TV is the top reason I'm excited for the Pocket Analogue, which will never be in my pocket, but only in the dock. Gonna go to town on Golden Sun. And Summon Night. And Riviera. And...
@riChchestM Apparently the answer is to pronounce both entitlement and willing participation in the race to the bottom pricing of video games that prevents many developers from receiving a fair return on their work. Not how I like to celebrate, but hey, you do you.
@Kevember @nessisonett Insulting people for not believing as you do says everything about you and nothing about them, and assuming that their fandom is blind, in contrast to yours which is thoughtful and measured, is sheer arrogance.
I've got the collectors edition of Saviors of Sapphire Wings coming, but that's it for me for this week. I was away from gaming for the entirety of the N64/PS1 generation, so I don't have the nostalgia required to give a dam about Crash Bandicoot.
