More details on Legends of Ethernal, an upcoming 2D action-adventure game from Natsume and Lucid Dreams Studio, have landed in our inbox. As such, we thought we'd share everything we've learnt with you lovely lot.
The new details cover some of the regions you can expect to explore when the game arrives on Switch later this year. The story has players joining protagonist Wilfred as he traverses Arkanys in search of his missing parents, and with these new details, we get a good look at The Arktree Lakeshore and its Van Dervill Grove, as well as Lope Village. Let's dive in...
Van Dervill Grove
The Arktree Lakeshore can be found near a big lake where lots of fish and peaceful creatures live. Many families of fishermen live in this area. Not too far from the Arktree Lakeshore, in a calm and pretty grove, lives the Van Dervill family. It's the perfect spot for whole family, as Flora Ban Dervill is an adept herbalist and alchemist, so she has close access to tons of flowers and herbs in the area.
This location is also perfect for Falken Van Dervill, as he is not too far from the lake where he can fish. He then sells his catches in Lope Village. However, to reach the village, he needs to travel through the Wurgen Valley that is located at the feet of the huge Mehdhun Tree, home of the peaceful Jarken Tribe. Wheat and other crops are cultivated in the valley, but the high grasses make it the perfect spot for the Wurgen, a wolf-like creature, to hide and attack its prey.
Lope Village
Lope Village is a quaint little burg that sits at the edge of both the Yunai River and Mount Thornüst, Lope Village has, in recent years, become a key point of commerce between the Orchards of Ambess and the Duchy of Otlesko.Situated right between the borders of these two high-export locations, the village has carved itself a niche as a trading post between the two towns' regions. It's also famous for its beautiful forests, freshwater fish, exemplary potions, and talented smithy. The village used to have a thriving mining community operating in Thornüst's underbelly, but a mysterious incident years ago forced the operation to close.
Last month, we were also treated to another set of screenshots and some story details. We'd urge you to revisit that if you'd like to learn more, but we'll leave you with this official game description. As a reminder, Legends of Ethernal launches on Switch this fall.
In Legends of Ethernal, it is up to you to uncover the truth about your parents' disappearance. Explore beautiful hand-crafted environments, solve challenging puzzles, and battle frightening creatures. Using the crafting power of ether, new powers and weapons will be unlocked to you, allowing you to explore more and more of the world of Arkanys!

Seems like another Zelda look a like. Not that that is bad, just saying...
Looks worth a second look and a purchase as a platformer; hopefully with upcoming eshop downtown time games like this will get more front-row showcase so the daily 50 Lbs of shovelware ends up in the upper balcony.
I like the artwork but would need to see gameplay before I know if I am interested in this.
Ah, yes. The game with the faceless protagonists...
Huge "Journey to the Center of Hawkthorne" vibes.
@setezerocinco Nothing says Zelda lookalike like a side scrolling perspective, faceless protagonists and a realistic medieval aesthetic. Maybe if Zelda 2 was the first one you thought of but even then, that’s a stretch.
@ReaperExTenebris Yeah, it’s a strange one all right. I do quite enjoy it for what it is but I can see why some people hate it. The Dark Link fight is one of the most infuriating fights in any game ever, it feels like he reads your inputs.
@nessisonett You're confusing Zelda with Metal Gear Solid.
Looks interesting but when I saw Natsume was not hoping for side scrolling.
@setezerocinco 1st picture made me think of Pinokkio though.. almost like a nose in fron of this kid bahaha. Totally no Zelda vibe to me here
Man. I remember when free flashgames looked like this. Now they are selling as full games. What happened?
Come on natsume, just give us lufia 2 already. Forget this side scrolling adverture games
Why do they always skimp on the faces?
