Robert Pattinson - one of the stars in Christopher Nolan's latest film Tenet (and obviously the new Batman) - was recently asked by GameSpot Universe to reveal his favourite game of all-time. It happens to be Square's 1997 PlayStation hit, Final Fantasy VII.
"Mine I think is a lot of people's favorite game: Final Fantasy VII."
Perhaps more interesting was the follow-up fact he shared - revealing how a certain in-game event (spoiler alert) was one of the "only times" that made him cry in his life. If you've played through this particular entry before, you might have already guessed the specific scene in the game where Robert shed some tears. It's the part when the villain Sephiroth kills Aeris:
"Still one of the most... probably one of the only times I've cried in my life is when Aeris dies... My first love."
If you've never had the chance to play Final Fantasy VII, it's now available on the Switch eShop for $15.99. It also comes with some additional features that make the game much easier.
What do you think of Pattinson's favourite game? Has a video game ever made you cry before? Tell us down below.

Love him. Loved him in Twilight as a relatively young and impressionable gayboi, loved his subsequent turn around in some legitimately great movies, loved the Batman trailer. Love him even more now cause that’s a great game and scene to pick. Bring on the Battinson.
I'm just the opposite, didn't like him in the movies, can't say I was ever attracted to him, I respect his hustle though. The man is just doing his job. I hope batman works out.
I knew she died ages before I had the chance to play VII. Quite sad. In fact, a lot of game magazines from back then used to picture that particular scene in the cover.
@Kalmaro How can you not be attracted to an emo vampire who literally sparkles in the sun 😂😂
You know if a game can make Batman cry it’s good!
I really hope he will not be Val Kilmer or Ben Affleck Batman... They were horrible!
@nessisonett Oh man, that drove me nuts. Why was that even a thing...
Robert Pattinson is going to freaking kill it as Batman. The new film is basically everything I wanted this entire time from both Nolan and Snyder. An actual film where he's a detective the entire time as opposed to like one or two scenes of scanning fingerprints. Colin Farrell better win Best Makeup for Oswald Cobblepot just saying
I’m slowly giving up on DC
@nessisonett I mean he'd be more attractive if he had Twizzlers on him like every other """"teenager"""" in those movies
@Y2JayRome Even after the FanDome stuff? Like I thought DC was going down the gutter with Snyder's direction but everything since the restructuring post-Geoff Johns has been great
Robert Pattinson surprised me as a legitmately great actor. I thought he was just a pretty face like the wolf boy (Sorry Lautner), then he does Water for Elephants and the Lighthouse. I am cautiously optimistic about the new batman, but darn if this story doesn't make me like Pattinson even more.
@tofarawaytimes Lautner has surprisingly good comedic timing on Cuckoo on BBC Three. Managed to replace Andy Samberg relatively well.
He will always be remembered for that Twilight travesty.
I've only seen the first twilight movie so all I'm gonna know him for is possibly batman. Assuming he does a good job with the new movie.
That FF spoiler is the most open secret in video gaming and not knowing it borders on video game ignorance (even if, like me, you didn't play it — I was already team Nintendo at the time — and I learned about it when even my straightest male friends discussed it at school, crying).
That said I don't really care for Pattinson's eyebrows. Give me a non-aging Ben Affleck instead.
@Zeldafan79 He was very good in “Good Time” and “The Rover.” I look forward to his rendition of Batman.
He was great in Tenet, but man, that movie makes Nolan's other films seem simplistic in comparison.
Why do people get surprised or interested in stuff like this? Last I checked celebrities are people too. Makes total since a sizable portion of them play games and some of them have indeed cried from a sad scene.
Are people seeking validation or something? Like "Oh, he cried too, so it's okay that I did?"
Live your life guys, I don't have to understand it.
Best game ever.
If you had a N64 at the time you probably don't think that way, but I had a PSX and I've always been a FFVII guy. I became a ninty lover in the GC era.
What a surprise. You're talking about a different celebrity? I'm shocked. SHOCKED.
I seriously can’t get past the opening 30 mins of ff7, the combat jus puts me off. The batman trailer looks awesome tho ! Xxx
@Heavyarms55 some aren't the smartest.. they think some are unhuman or something.. or crying is a weak thing and are gagged for it
If they keep Batman as brutal as that beating in the trailer it will be one of the greatest Batman movies ever!
Batman is dark and we need more thugs with broken bones and smashed in faces!
Did you cry when she died?
I actually think that this is more like a trend to say that the death of Aerith made someone cry even if it did not. I dont understand why someone would cry over a character who the player spent just a couple of hours with.
Anyone doubting Pattinson's acting talent, should watch The Lighthouse.
Also great choice of favorite video game.
I couldn't care less about his choice of gaming lol. What would I do with that infomation?
Journey made me cry a few times.
Funny how nobody complains about Robert Pattison related article on Nintendo Life, but when it comes to Brie Larson article, all hell breaks loose.
Same here !
I also cry
And i love ff7
Stop with the "spoiler" crap. Everyone knows she dies, and the game is over 20 years old. If you havent played it already, that's on you.
@Chamver Wait a minute! Aeris dies?! =3
Say what you will about Robert Pattinson and Twilight, but you're missing some stellar acting if you haven't seen him in the movie Good Time.
Only time I've cried is when Ridley shows up and Samus cowers in fear. Is what a hardcore Metroid fan would say, definitely not me, I don't care.
Yeah, I can't think of truly sad moments in games I've played, probably Xion's death, since she didn't just die but was erased from everyone's memories, that's like dying twice.
Oh what about Shiki's reveal in TWEWY? That's a good one.
I don't think I cried, but I didn't see it coming when I first experienced it, and I remember being sad about it for several days afterward (probably clinically depressed). I remember I changed my FF7 window colors from green to red in memory of her. To this day, it's the saddest moment I've ever experienced in a video game.
Now I need to go Google Robert Pattinson.
Robert Pattinson's been making some brilliant career moves. I still remember when I sat down to review Good Time for a local website, with great misgivings, and was completely blown away that the "dude from Twilight" was doing whatever it was he was doing up there on the screen. Great stuff.
As far as I played FFVII so far, this scene definitely hit me the most and I was sad when I saw Aerith die. I knew about it, but I actually didn't see it for myself until just earlier this month. I didn't cry though.
That said, aside from this portion, I really don't see why people think this game is so great. It's good, but not amazing. ..as I already recently mentioned elsewhere. To each their own of course though!
@nessisonett @Kalmaro Whether you love him or aren't really a fan, if you read the recent GQ interview with him you will find a new level of respect for him, simply for the way he prepares Piccolini Cuscino.
@JimmySpades I respect his hustle and commitment to his job, no more no less.
One of the only times he's cried in his life? That's weird, right? Not that he cried at a video game, but that he's claiming that's one of the only times he's cried in his life?
It's funny whenever people still give him crap for Twilight. It's been 10 years, he moved on long ago, why not try the same? Highly underrated actor (for now, the double whammy of Tenet and Batman is going to change a lot of tunes I bet).
@Hagemaru I think it's confirmed Pattinson's Batmans is during year 1 or 2, so yeah, pretty young.
@Zeropulse I feel the same way, he and Daniel Radcliffe were smart enough not to follow the traditional failed child actor path by avoiding typecasting early on. So while I can’t stand the movies they were originally best known for in Harry Potter, I respect them both as thespians.
