Re: Random: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Player Makes In-Game Shop That Takes Real Money

I'm not even mad 😂 This person is a Nook in the making, and an entrepreneurial genius!

I get the icky feeling some of you guys might have towards this, BUT, imagine a world in which charities had their own Islands and you could donate to them. Imagine a Cancer Research UK island, or an RSPB island that only had bird villagers 😂

WAIT, EVEN BETTER, imagine a takeaway Island, where you could place a Dominoes order, pay for it via QR code and it comes to your actual house.

This has so much potential 😂

I actually thought this was a really cool moment. You can be cynical about it being three dudes having a PR moment if you like, but I like to think it's a reflection of how far the hobby has come. Competition and markets aside, these three companies have helped video games transcend to an art form that you're a philistine now if you don't have some appreciation of. That's pretty insane when you think about almost every other art form being minimally hundreds of years old!

Re: Nintendo Comments On How It's Handling Joy-Con Drift

Jacob1092

@KitsuneNight I politely reject that notion. Joy-cons are extremely easy to open up if you have the right screwdriver. The analogue sticks are easily removed, most components in a joy-con are held in with little clasps and clamps and so they're easy to take off and refit. I sell vapes for a living and they're a nightmare by comparison. I've done a lot of little solder jobs or part replacement with them and they're much much harder to work with. As for comfortable, no one's comfortable the first time they open something up. That's why I suggest diving straight in, it's an excellent skill to have and you quickly realise it's not as intimidating once you can see how everything fits together. Most of my friends have had the drifting issue, and I fix it for them in exchange for lunch or a coffee now 😄

Don't get me wrong, it's not that Nintendo should be selling faulty stuff or that they shouldn't be obligated to fix it. All I'm saying is if you're in the position where you've got drift, it's far more convenient if you can take the matter into your own hands and fix it that day, rather than ship it off and wait for a week. I certainly agree that Nintendo should be offering to do something about it free of charge though 👍

I can repair joy-con drift in about fifteen minutes, maybe twenty if the metal casing on the analogue stick gives me grief. And if I couldn't do it's I'd probably just spend a tenner and get a replacement analogue stick. This is to say, try fixing it yourself folks! If you've got a natural inclination towards tinkering with things, joy-cons are actually pretty easy to take apart and put back together. Just gotta get the magical triwing screwdriver!

Re: Negative Feedback Gets Us Down But Must Be Taken On Board, Says Pokémon's Junichi Masuda

Jacob1092

@Spudtendo Potentially controversial opinion; I don't need new and innovative ideas for Pokémon. They don't have the timescale to really break the mould like BotW did, and it forces their hand into coming up with silly gimmicks.

What I would like is expansion and refinement of ideas that have come before. I get whiplash when they do stuff like add that awesome area specific tool for hunting Pokémon in OR and then later remove it. Competitions were awesome, can we have those back? Perhaps a system by which you could have them running in tandem to gyms, so you could choose how you progress in the game and unlock new areas? Getting rid of mega evolution in favour of Z-moves was silly. Bring back megas, they had so much more potential for expanding on the designs of old Pokémon AND making them competitively viable.

And my biggest pipedream? Sack off making new Pokémon. There's plenty to be getting on with already. Maybe a new legend or a new starter, but no one needs another gen of monsters who's names I'll never remember.

That's what I'd do anyway. Probably wreck the series, but there you go 😂

Re: Could All Pokémon Featured In Nintendo's Nostalgic Sword And Shield Ad Be Included In The Galar Pokédex?

Jacob1092

I've been salty since the NatDex news and I can honestly say I am as salty as ever. In fact no, I'm saltier.

For the record, for people who cared, it isn't the fact that the national dex isn't in the game that has folks like myself in this perpetual state of saltiness, it is the fact that we can't play with certain Pokémon. Don't need them to appear in the Dex, we just want to play with them. I always monotype grass on my Poképlaythroughs, for example, and always with a Chikorita and a Turtwig. Probably won't be able to do that here. And even if I can, I shan't be purchasing it out of solidarity with folks who can't play with their favourites either.

Won't make a blind bit of difference, the PKMN Co. will carry on pulling this sort of thing as the series progresses I'm sure. But PKMN leaves a bad taste in my mouth now. Such a shame, as X and Y completely rejuvenated the series for me and Omega Ruby blew my socks off.
