Re: Zelda's English VA Officially Confirms Her Return In Tears Of The Kingdom

Jacob1092

@GrandAlex64 See this is why it's all subjective. I can't watch that scene in Japanese, it's so hammy and over the top it makes me cringe! Patricia delivered that scene with a bit of subtly which I thought was much more appropriate. Listing everyone who's died, and then just kind of giving into despair and collapsing with a sob was much better than randomly starting to scream-wail in a way that didn't remotely match the body language of the character model. But, that is just me bringing my interpretation that is no doubt coloured by my taste.

For the record I think Patricia is great and it's a bonus she was also just a lovely human when I met her at a con when BotW released. Can't wait to see what she gets up to in this game.

Re: YouTuber Ends Metroid Prime Music Covers After Nintendo's Lawyers Call

What's the actual reason for them doing this? I really don't get it. We all know why they should be allowing people to create fan art, but I can't come up with any sensible reason for them to actively prevent it? Are they planning on releasing all the music themselves or something? Really feel like I'm missing something blindingly obvious here.

Re: Promotion Of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Reveal "Significantly Reduced" Due To "Major World Events"

Jacob1092

I actually get really confused by this behaviour. I've never understood why companies choose to reduce promotion during times of crisis. I think it's because if you know terrible stuff is constantly going on, every second of every day, it feels weirdly inconsistent for a company to say "well, we'll reduce promotion until this thing blows over, but we don't have to worry about this other thing."

I wouldn't expect or even want a company to reduce promotion every time something hideous is happening, so it feels weirdly arbitrary when they do so I guess. My two cents anyway.

Should probably also add, this is not to take away from the significance of what's going on in Ukraine, I wish them every success in protecting their citizenry and sovereign territory.

Re: Smash Bros. Twitter Encourages Fans To Let Their Imaginations "Run Wild" Ahead Of The Final Fighter Reveal

@Torakaka Trouble is, we have Ridley. That pretty clearly means that trying to come up with a list of rules for who can and cannot be in Smash is inherently an excercise in futility. Sakurai doesn't follow the rules that come out of his own mouth.

Now I'd personally love the Master Chief, but I've enjoyed this iteration of Smash so much I'm just gonna put my feet up, grab some popcorn and enjoy the end of this crazy ride 😎

@HenHiro Nah man, just offering some friendly advice. I had a lil' flick through your comments and if I was wasting as much of my day ensuring everyone knew how much I hated certain things as you did, I'd want someone to bring that to my attention. Anyway, it's a new day today, I hope you find something to enjoy. Have a good one.

Re: Feature: 'Breaking' Shrines Was Maybe The Coolest Thing About Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Jacob1092

I super appreciate this article. I had a similar moment of "oh wait, I can do this a different way..." when there was a shrine with a runway of spikey swinging balls on chains. There was enough of a gap between each one to stand, so presumably stasis would be the default way of getting past it, stop a ball, move to the gap, stop the next, move to the next gap, etc, etc.

That felt like it would take too long to me, so noticing they were metal I grabbed each one with magnesis and hung them up over the arms they were swinging from, immobalising the balls and clearing the entire walkway. Might seem an obvious alternative solution, but clocking it makes you feel like a real genius. And this game had moments like that in spades.

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Skyward Sword Is Good, Actually

Jacob1092

This is a funny game for me because unlike most other Zeldas, I have a hard time relating to people's experiences. My motion controls always worked brilliantly. I hear complaints about the linear sections before dungeons, but they always just felt like just more dungeon to me. I loved the imprisoned fights. Every damn one of them. If Fi told me my batteries were low, I'd change them and thank her.

I dunno. This is easily one of my favourite Zeldas though. Where I do relate to people is the love of the story. And if folks could forget about batteries for a second, Fi was one of the best companions. Her arc might not pay off until right at the end, but when it does it's like an elbow straight to the gut. Between her and the final boss, it changed the way I looked at every other Zelda game I'd played in the past. That's pretty special to me.

Re: Ex-Halo Composer 'Would Love' To Work With Nintendo If Master Chief Joins Smash Ultimate

Jacob1092

How does no one here have a story about being buddies with an Xbox kid in school and having months long debates about who would win in a fight between the Master Chief and Samus, culminating in the discovery of Haloid and the realisation that they're both badass mother cluckers? Do people not want to be able to play out that fight for themselves?

I would pay all of the money, so much money, to get the Chief in Smash. He's an iconic character with an insane amount of potential in a moveset. Grenades and energy swords and fuel rod cannons and the classic Halo 2 BR, whatever you like. Arrives into the match via drop pod, final smash could be blowing up a Halo ring. Stage could be that last level from Halo 3 on the Ark, to THAT music. It'd be amazing.
