Update (Fri 29th May, 2020 17:00 BST): As a quick reminder, today sees the launch of Moonlighter's "huge" DLC expansion, Between Dimensions, on Switch and other platforms (you can catch all the details you need in our original article below).
The release comes just as the game reaches an important milestone, as 11 bit studios has also revealed that it's now sold more than one million copies, with the biggest revenue coming from the Switch version.
Original Article (Thu 21st May, 2020 12:30 BST): Publisher 11 Bit Studios is bringing Digital Sun's DLC expansion for Moonlighter to Switch and other consoles on 29th May. This paid DLC package is called Between Dimensions and you can get a glimpse of it in the teaser trailer above.
The game--self-described as a "shopkeeping RPG"--launched on Switch back in 2018 and this latest expansion (already available on PC) adds a new interdimensional dungeon as well as new creatures, weapons, shop items and more to the existing dungeons.
There's even a light smattering of additional content coming for owners of the game who don't purchase the Between Dimensions DLC. Check out the list below from the official PR blurb, as well as some Switch screenshots:
● A brand-new Interdimensional Dungeon (with a chance for it to appear as a Corrupted Dungeon in the original dungeons!)
● 10 all-new original enemies and 5 minibosses
● A full set of weapons with a new short sword, a large sword, bow, gloves, and spear
● A new set of armor with a helmet, chest, and boots
● Trick weapons – 10 unique weapons in total – both powerful… and punishing!
● New rings for boosting Will’s passive abilities
● New shop upgrade allowing Will to showcase his new Interdimensional Items
● New customers wanting to trade and an unfamiliar NPC: The Trader
● Additional story and lore
● New thieves to invade your shop (free content)
● A new client - the indecisive customer (free content)
● A bothersome bird terrorizing your customers (free content)
The expansion will set you back $6.99, and it should be noted that you need to have finished the main game before you'll be able to access it. Obviously the peace you brought to Rynoka in the base game didn't last very long! It never does in these RPG worlds, does it?
We very much enjoyed the base game when we reviewed it, saying that "if you want to play a top-down Legend of Zelda game as a rogue-lite while also taking shifts as a shopkeeper then, hey, Moonlighter is about to scratch a distinctive itch for you". It also made our list of the games to play after you've finished Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so perhaps now is a good time to investigate Moonlighter if it passed you by back in 2018.
Let us know below if you'll be heading between dimensions in this DLC.

I got it and played for a while. But I suck at rogue-lite games, so I never got past the third dungeon. May well go back to it though, because even though I suck at it, it's beautifully crafted and the shopkeeping is incredibly engaging. If I ever finish the dungeons I'll look at the DLC ☺️
I've bought it in a sale and never got round to it. Maybe this update will bring it to the front of my Switch homepage and may actually open it at some point. Maybe
It is a great game, just had the last zone to do, then some other game came out and distracted me, I need to go back and complete it.
Great news! I just started playing this last week and have been loving it so far.
A question, though. Is it me or all the free updates are bad stuff for you??
The base gane is fun but a bit short. When it launched the gane was really buggy. I know they fixed a lot now though.
I hope this DLC has enough content.
@Bobb I was reading this and thought the same thing. Thieves raiding your shop, pesky birds, and annoying indecisive customers, I just hear a crack of thunder expecting a heavy rain reading that.
This game is a blast, start to finish. The balance between dungeon & shopkeeping is perfect and never gets old. I've hardly felt punished by mechanics or game design, it was just a matter of finding my style and mastering along the journey.
Graphics and animations are awesome but I have to mention, that's one of the best OST ever! Every song fits so amazingly that I kept coming just for "one more listening" (of course, before buying the soundtrack).
One of my GOTY and although I have it on PC, Switch is the perfect place to play this game.
I enjoyed this game for a while. By the time I reached the third dungeon I got bored. I might pick it up again for a while.
I finished the game and I recommend it. However, I don’t think I’ll be getting the DLC since I have too many games I must get to.
@Al_Godoy Ya I agree man. The game looks and sounds great, but eventually I was making so much cash it felt kinda easy and I had bought everything for the town. I got bored of the same dungeons and never went past the third. I also think I got burnt out trying to beat the boss of the third or something
I liked the game. But this trailer does nothing to make me want to go back to the game. Hopefully when it xo.ws.oit and I see more footage I will be hyped.
Digital Sun isn't getting any more of my money until they fix the broken trophy glitch on the PlayStation version
@Grim that's pretty much exactly my experience. It is not uncommon with rogue-lite games, though.
I really enjoyed this game for awhile but got tired of it by the last zone and I never finished it. It's a cool concept and is definitely worth checking out but in the end the gameplay wasn't engaging enough to keep me wanting to play more.
@Jacob1092 I'm in the same boat. I really like this game, but I haven't even cleared the first dungeon, despite putting about 5 hours into the game! Ugh... I do want to beat it though, so I'll likely head back in this weekend.

*Checks backlog.
Yep, still there.
Looking forward to trying it though.
I am pleased to see the positive comments here, because this game has interested me for some time. However, when the physical copy is released before the game is quite "finished" (DLC and updates included), my ardour cools. I waited uneasily for Hollow Knight, and Team Cherry obliged with a complete version in box.
I suppose my stubbornness has saved me a fair bit of money...
@deafswin37 I do hope the remake would avoid using the music in that video.
Gone with the Wind, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Starry Night by van Gogh... such works have none of them been "remade", have they? I pity the studio and team that are saddled with such a task. I, and a legion, will judge their work exactingly.
Just from the descriptions, it doesn’t seem like this expansion is “huge.” I enjoyed the base game, but by the final two dungeons, nothing felt new. If this expansion really tweaked the gameplay, I’d consider it, but it seems more of the same. I’m glad the game has sold so many copies though!
Wanted to love Moonlighter. Loved the idea and the general loop but found the combat to be too rough.
@Crispe I second that...it was not easy when I first launched it.
Just started playing moonlighter after having the physical copy for about 7 months now. I love the music. Its a game seller. The general loop of dungeons and shop front is engaging. Its started off a little strong though and its preety tough
Love when DLC comes out for games I hadn’t picked up yet. It puts them back on my radar and normally a nice sale coincides for the base game! Just picked it up at 60% off and living it so far!
A bit confused as to why I can’t merge a 2 and a 1 of the same thing in my bag while in a dungeon though.... am I missing something?
And I think I’ve sold many things WAAAAY too cheap...
Also, run out of room in my bag while exploring and find myself chickening out and going back to town rather than dump stuff.... I’m sure that’s the wrong thing to do?!?!
@COVIDberry I not sure but im guessing the music was used due to copy right
@Al_Godoy Yeah same for me. 3rd Dungeon and got bored
