@Anguspuss And that's fair enough. Nintendo's loss. They should be taking this stuff upon themselves, and making money on it, not letting other people do it.
Scalpers are a byproduct of Nintendo being cautious about over producing stock, or their limited ability to do so. If you want to blame someone on this, blame them. But don't blame someone who engages in a voluntary transaction, and then offers to engage in another voluntary transaction in order to make a profit. The only difference between the scalper and Nintendo is Nintendo produce the product. And if they produce so few that they can't meet demand, how can you blame someone for trying to do what Nintendo do, which is turn a profit? Is that not what every person on the planet does? Offer goods and services in exchange for money/other goods and services? Or do we want to live in some communist hellscape where Nintendo attempts to distribute Amiibo evenly across the population, leading to Amiibo lines, and Amiibo famine? And then someone who tries to buy more than one of a given Amiibo is thrown in some sort of Mario themed Gulag? Where will it end?!
**Edit: I never mentioned the SNES Mini because as I continued along this rant I was thinking of how the exact same thing happens with Amiibo in high demand. But the point remains the same. SNES FAMINE PEOPLE.
Shame about Ever Oasis, but as the 3DS is ancient now and the demand for the Switch is still insane, I think we can expect to see more of this going forward. Just annecdotally, a friend of mine hasn't played his 3DS much recently because the time he has for gaming has been poured into his shiny new Switch. Same story with me really, though I am still trying to check in on my villagers in New Leaf from time to time. Make sure they haven't burnt the town down in my absence, and the like.
I dunno if I'd fancy an "open world" sort of Metroid. I agree that isolation, wonder and fear are strong elements to the game. But a lot of that, I would argue, is caused by the corridors and tunnels and enclosed spaces. Prime can almost feel claustrophobic at times, and that's part of why it's so tense.
One of my favourite memories of the Metroid series was in Fusion when you go down this corridor a little way, work your way up to a parallel room above it, then remain totally still while the SA-X walks in looking for you. Meanwhile you're bricking it and hoping it just walks in and walks away, knowing full well you'd be dead in an instant if you dare try to move a muscle. BAH, gives me shivers thinking about it But yeah, I think you'd lose a lot of that feeling if you went with a "go anywhere" mentality.
I'm one of those few individuals who LOVES motion controls. I get sad thinking about Skyward Sword because I know they'll never use that control style for sword combat again. Plus I never actually played Skyrim properly (girlfriend got it and completed it, I only ever dabbled) or touched any of the DLC, so I'm SUPER excited for this. Considering it's got the core game and all the added content, I'll pony up £60 for it. It's a bit much, but I imagine I'll get enough hours out of it for it to be worth it.
@twadezelda3dsxl ...Wait, come again? By "essentially get the Switch version for free" do you mean it'll be exactly the same game, but just on my PC or do you mean I'll have a version on my Switch? And if so, how does that even work? Or have I got this very wrong?
@electrolite77 Wouldn't dream of defending it commercially, but it did have some seriously good games. Not counting the HD Zelda's, Hyrule Warriors, Smash Bros, Splatoon, Pikmin 3 and Mario Kart were worth buying the console for me. I know others really enjoyed the New Super Mario Bros games and Bayonetta 2. This also doesn't include the goodies on the eShop. I'm sure there were others.
*Edit; I put Pikmin 4 instead of 3. You can tell what I really would like to see on the Switch
@roadrunner343 Yeah, see I absolutely loved my Wii U, but in terms of Nintendo putting out good stuff, I found things like AC Amiibo Festival towards the end of its life insulting frankly. This is the trouble though, Xbox seems to be going through the same issue as Wii U as their version exclusive must haves are way to few and far between, even if they are really good. It's not enough, from my perspective at least, to say that the console is doing well. But you're right, quality of content is super subjective, so it would be easy enough for two people to have completely different opinions about the quality of a given company's output. But that's why discussions are so much fun
@roadrunner343 I don't nessecarily mean the market share is split three ways, just more that the quality of their output is strong. By this standard Xbox aren't doing well at the minute because the games they've been putting out are either also on another system or, in terms of exclusives, they're just a bit "meh". There's no reason for Xbox not to be putting out quality content, they're just not doing to the same standard as PS or Switch. There's nothing wrong with being in second place, or even third, so long as your output is of a high quality. I suppose I am definitely saying this from the perspective of a consumer though, so I totally take your point about someone always losing out to competition.
@Akropolon Totally agree. That's not to say Forza, Halo or Gears are bad games, but if you have a nearly identical console system exclusives are gonna be what makes or breaks you in relation to your direct competition. Nintendo have that massive advantage in that they have no direct competition. If/when they fluff up, it won't be because another company was releasing loads of games that were already available on Switch.
@locky-mavo Totally agree with that sentiment, and nothing would make me happier than a Metroid multiplayer. Hunters was awesome and really doesn't get enough credit.
I'll but it. I've got a pretty varied taste in games, and CoD is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. Me and a friend spend many an hour playing local multiplayer on CoD so if it'll be there for the Switch I'll happily buy it. I'm sure I read somewhere Nintendo wants to champion local multiplayer with the Switch, which is how I like to play games best. If we get , Mario Kart, Splatoon and Arms, I'm really looking forward to everything the Switch will offer on this front. Can't play Zelda for the rest of my life, as much as I'm trying
I remember having a lot of fun with Metroid Prime Hunters at the time. I don't see why Nintendo don't just make an FPS Metroid in house again. Wouldn't need to keep getting our hopes up every time there's a stirring around Retro Studios either
@Eric258 I had exactly the same experience. I found myself overanalysing every syllable trying to work out why it felt weird. I think once I started hearing the memories though, it clicked for me. Whatever your thoughts on the principle of VA in Zelda games, Patricia was able to convey some pretty powerful emotions that made Zelda incredibly engrossing for me (I'm thinking now of just the abject shame in her voice after she comes down from Mt. Lanayru having been unsuccessful in unlocking her power). By the end I found myself listening to the memories over and over again because I'd completely fallen in love with her voice. Could not imagine Zelda sounding any different now.

@MoonKnight7 Could not agree more with this. If I head into London it's fun but other than this I just get tired of the lack of interesting things.
