Launching today on Nintendo Switch is The Manga Works, a simulation game where you'll be perfecting your career as an artist.
You'll start off your journey as a new and inexperienced manga artist armed only with your pen and your imagination. Your goal is to work across anime, drama and even movies, with part of the gameplay revolving around securing publishing deals and heading out in search of inspiration. Here's a quick description of what you'll be getting up to:
Ideas are the lifeblood of a manga artist. Go out in search of inspiration and gather plot points, then stuff your manga full of creativity. Accumulate experience points and use them to train up your drawing, storytelling, and other skills. When you think you've created a great one-shot, take it to a publisher! If you manage to make the "editor from hell" smile, it might just be the start of a fruitful relationship.
Produce the best manga the world has ever seen, and write your name down in history!
The game is available from the Nintendo Switch eShop today for $14 / £11.69 and can also be found on mobile stores.

What If I only watch the anime?
"Produce the best manga the world has ever seen"
So we have to produce Dragon Ball ? 🤔
Can we play as Rohan Kishibe? No? Gutting...
@smashboy2000 *Demon slayer
@PickledKong64 Jojo's Bizarre Adventure*
Does it include unpaid crunch periods? Unpaid overworking? Harsh and bad worl envoirments? No time for friends, family or yourself? Short deadlines? And all the other stuff the manga and anime industry is known for?
@DsheroX You're a normie.
@DsheroX have you watched any other anime I just want to know
@PickledKong64 I was about to say "Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend" but I don't think people will get the joke 😅
@Jacob1092 I thought about making a joke like that but I chickened out.
@smashboy2000 Dragon Ball is certainly one of the most influential and best-selling manga series but, in my view, we would have to make a Fullmetal Alchemist or Akira.
@Elvie Aaaah Akira. Great pick.
I would go for Gunnm too.
@smashboy2000 looked it up. Why good sir would you ever say that
Robotech is the bestest!
@smashboy2000 I haven't gotten around to reading that. I assume it's better than the film, right?
@smashboy2000 lol, I don't think so
@smashboy2000 What a strange way to spell One Piece
@PickledKong64 Hahaha ! It's a cult anime/manga from the 90's. It really did represent the dark side of anime : unaccessible for those who dreamt to see something so forbidden. And an easy target for those who wanted japanese anime banned from europe and usa.
It's soooo cult.
Fun fact : the movie Silent Hill (2006) pays hommage to this anime with its last action sequence.
@smashboy2000 As to quote a friend who watched all the Overfiend movies (to this day I don't know why).... "This is the only time I have ever needed to cross my legs. And I am a GUY!"
@SilentS This anecdote made my Day 😂
@smashboy2000 Yeah I like a good anime here and there but I'm not into that edgy stuff tbh. To each his own though
@PickledKong64 I totally agree with you. I watched one episode back in the day and it was too sick. And not very good.
But I couldn't resist the joke to say "Hey, you mean we have to produce that ?" and wait for people to google it
@smashboy2000 lol ha. Yeah honestly I could never be a manga or anime producer. Lol. Imagine having to be an artist or animator for literally anything with fanservice... I could never animate the toothbrush scene from Bakemonogatari
@smashboy2000 Lol haven't heard that particular anime mentioned in years... such a disturbing series.
Man if this lets me give urotsukidoji the ending it deserves rather than the rush job it got I'm, besides Kairosoft makes fun games Damn their gameplay loop.
wait its a couple bucks mobile game and they want how much. i like kairosoft games every now and again but $14 id expect 7 of them
I like their games on mobile but are these versions for that price even worth it... Lol. Is there more content added or just the same?
@Swizze There is no content added, they are the same sadly. I wish it was cheaper.
I like Kairosofts games, but why on earth would I buy the Switch versions of them when they cost several times more as much than on mobile? It really is a shame
@PickledKong64 Haha yeah I've watched my share. Jojo is just fantastic. Been reading more manga, if you want something good and heavy "Goodnight Pun Pun" or Biscuit Hammer if you want something that is pure shonen but does well to distance itself from the pack, and manages to be a very consumable size. Berserk as well. Read the Jojo manga. Part 7 is the best but 8 is very interesting
@DsheroX honestly I dont like jojo. I watched all parts but I see no substance in it. Part 2 was the best it was great. Personally I dont want to relate to the jojo fanbase as they are a bunch of annoying children making annoying jokes and references that everyone has heard be4. Not you but the community u seem chill
@PickledKong64 To be honest i just dont associate with any anime community whatsoever, let them enjoy it their own way, and you and I enjoy it our own. If you let communities actions decide your liking for things and dislikes you will miss many fun things in life. Shame you don't like Jojo. It's like the manifestation of those childhood imaginary fights were you go "I hit you with my laser" "Nu uh, i have a shield thats immune to that" "My laser pierces shields" " My shield is stronger than that" sort of thing
@DsheroX the fanbase didnt decode I did. And I dont want to associate with that. Ppl dont realise though what a bad fanbase could do. And I dont see how good jojo is tbh. I watched all parts and now I'm just tired out. In terms of fights and crazy stuff I liked my things to be more grounded
