Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - September 2018

Illusion

I've played through Broforce 6 times on normal and once on hard. That game is so great! I'd probably be stuck in a loop of playing it had Capcom Beatemup Bundle not came out which takes my 2nd place slot. Played through all 7 of those offline and played through all of King of Dragons with some guy on the internet, great experience and I'd also probably be playing more of that, but now I'm on Valkyria Chronicles 4 and just over halfway through that, but Megaman 11 and Super Mario Party come out this week and Starlink and Soul Calibur VI not long after, not to mention Fallout 76 Beta at the end of October. September-October is packed with too many games, but that's a great thing!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 29th)

Illusion

Valkyria Chronicles IV. Keeps on surprising me with new scenarios and challenges. Very fun game and I normally loathe the tactical rpg. Getting to run and aim with every unit and use mortars and vehicles puts it above so many others where you're just an eye in the sky playing with 4 different versions of guys with guns. The anime story is good too.

Re: Nintendo Has Nothing To Say About Internet Superstar Bowsette, So Stop Begging For Her

Illusion

@RC_Russ98 like Custer's Revenge, Beat em and Eat em for Atari? Gotcha in the Arcade from Atari? The reward for beating Metroid really fast was getting to play the game with Samus in a skin tight bikini which was a Nintendo "family friendly" game? Don't even give me "that was fine, graphics were primitive then". No, they were state of the art. Just like today with Bayonetta showing up in Nintendo's stable of characters on consoles and Smash.
Its always been in games and every media. Just whether or not people acknowledge it.
edit few more examples for you:
Birdo the transex dinosaur upon whom the player embarks on a quest in captain rainbow to prove she's a she by finding an object that vibrates in her home.
In Super Mario RPG if you check near Princess Peach's bed you find her ???, then told by a servant to put it back and forget what you've seen.
In multiple Zelda games Link is hit on by lecherous old women and has questionable relationships with several fish women and an eternally young child of the forest.
In Majora's Mask a couple of characters profess that they are lovers. They are a 12 year old boy and a 20ish year old woman.
Nintendo has definitely sexualized their own characters, even in the innocent 80's and 90's.
Also, Linkle has set a precedent of allowing genderbent characters in games due to fan demand. Don't pretend the blonde elf in green who is the destined hero of her dimension is not a feminized Link.

Re: Hamster Adding Even More Games To The Arcade Archives On Switch

Illusion

@Moroboshi876 lol. Don't worry, I've played Atari games before. I know they're not technological marvels and many are wastes of space.
I own an Atari Flashback 8 Deluxe and play less than half of them when I fire it up. There are some gems in the junk heap though. Also if they include the arcade versions like they have in the other console ports then there'd be a few more good games in there.

Re: Hamster Adding Even More Games To The Arcade Archives On Switch

Illusion

Most of these just don't do it for me...
Getting SNK 40th Anniversary so I've got Athena and Ikari Warriors covered.
I'd be more excited about Williams-BallyMidway arcade games.
They'd be best in a set like the ones they put out for Xbox, PS, and Gamecube years ago, but I'd probably throw money at Cruisn USA, Bubbles, Tapper, Timber, Smash TV, Rampart, Marble Madness, Road Blasters, Vindicators, Rampage World Tour, Hydro Thunder, and Robotron 2084.
Glad Atari will be putting out a collection this winter (last I heard at least) as they have many simple but fun games like Tempest, Breakout, and Missile Command I want on my Switch.

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th September (North America)

Illusion

Great week for me: playing through the 20 NES titles, got through 18 of em yesterday, mario 3 today, and now I'm working on Zelda. After that I'll be playing the Capcom Beatemup Bundle, followed by the Detention demo, and Valkyrie Chronicles 4. I'm also excited about the Sega Classics collection, SNK collection, and Atari collections coming out this winter. My Switch will have so many games!

Re: Soapbox: We Like To Grumble, But Nintendo Switch Online Is Actually A Very Generous Offer

Illusion

Okay service with okay games, but I won't be happy with it until they come out and say SNES or the occasional Nindie is part of the monthly free games. More than half of people seem to be okay with the possibility of SNES games on Switch, but with how long it took to implement "the successor to Virtual Console" I'm not getting my hopes up of it happening before 2020. If they ever do.

Re: Switch eShop Maintenance Scheduled For This Evening, Nintendo Online Service Ready To Go

Illusion

I'll be getting nintendo switch online tonight because 5 of those 20 NES games are really good games. Wish there were more and only happy about 1 of the 9 upcoming ones. Hope we get SNES games within the next year, but I doubt it.
Of the 4 Switch owners I know, I'll be the only one putting in for online. The other 3 couldn't care less. Guess we'll see how this all pans out.

Re: NES Games On Switch Playable For Up To Seven Days Without Internet Connection

Illusion

I realize as an American who's the head of a corporate office...the people I work for would have a cow if I took more than an entire week of vacation at once. Non-issue for me, but for people that want to take their Switch to an isolated cabin for weeks on end, I see your point. Wish it were tied to your subscription expiration.
Also, I hope Nintendo transfers over our library of NES and others to the Switch 2 when they inevitably shut down the service for Switch in 10 years or less to encourage us to move to their next platform...but I know they won't.

Re: Guide: Everything Announced In Yesterday's Nintendo Direct

Illusion

My hype level is pretty low despite looking forward to Capcom Beat em up, NES games, Starlink, Megaman 11, Super Mario Party, Pokemon Let's Go, Smash Bros Ultimate, Civilization VI, Animal Crossing, and Damon X Machina. Probably because I knew about all of them before the direct cept Capcom beatemup. "NES games were a given as was a new Animal Crossing eventually." Nothing blew me away, but glad there was a nice variety for everyone. Especially RPG fans. Goodish direct.

Re: Broforce - Infectious Low-Brow Blasting Fun With Your Favourite Movie Heroes

Illusion

Maybe I'd enjoy it less in a different situation, but I have had some truly awful days at work the past couple weeks.
My downtime with Broforce has been nothing but smiles however. Every one of my inner-child's heroes thrown together in punderful and addictive gameplay. The end level music reminding me of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers doesn't hurt either. Beat the game on hard a couple days ago. Ironbro is probably beyond me though.
9.5 out of 10 for me.
"Broforce kicking ahhhs for justice and liberty!"-watch the cartoon trailer on youtube. It helps the happy.
Disclaimer edit:
it also doesn't hurt that I was raised on Terminator, Robocop, and the Aliens movies.

Re: Bastion - A Captivating Indie Gem That Hasn't Been Dulled By The Passage Of Time

Illusion

In response to the first paragraph of this review: Yes, videogames are art. Just as much as music, theater, tv, poems, books, comics, and motion pictures. One can argue whether or not they enjoy a particular form of art or entire sections or mediums, but anyone who argues that any videogame from pong to Zelda BoTW are not creative art pieces, they are just plain wrong.

Re: Random: A Tiny Animation Change In Mega Man 11 Is Leaving Some Players Unhappy

Illusion

@Moroboshi876 the price is so low because Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Azure Striker Gunvolt, 20XX, and capcom's own megaman collections can be had for far less than the price of a $60 AAA game that they figure in order to sell it en masse, they'd have to price it at about $30. It cost far less to make than Street Fighter V or Resident Evil 7 so they feel they can take the hit.
I personally thought it would've been between $40-$50 so I'm not complaining.

Re: SNK 40th Anniversary Collection Gives You More Bang For Your Buck With DLC Games

Illusion

I guess emulating games is harder than any of us thought? 😋
Oh well, I can't cry about the price of free and I doubt too many gigabytes of data on the switch will be consumed by games from the 80s.
Too bad they chose not to include everything on the cartridge, but on the bright side, perhaps they will just keep adding old SNK games as DLC for years, like many hoped the NES and SNES mini would do.
Not upset, just very....surprised.

Re: Pre-Register For Nintendo's Mobile Game Dragalia Lost And Receive A Special Gift

Illusion

@Hobbesyall Nintendo bought this company and has several more different mobile games in the works. I think they're driving straight through it. Too late to hope otherwise. Only way they'd stop is if mobile games cost them more than they earn, but so far they're earning a profit from their mobile division, just not as much as they'd like. That being said, I'm not going to encourage them by downloading this. 😋

Re: Head Of Abstraction Games Addresses Technical Performance Of The Switch

Illusion

@Geekster I purchase more games on Switch than any system I've ever owned because I run an office and game during lunchbreaks and downtime. Also perfect for early mornings in the house when I wake up before everyone else and don't want to wake the house with the big tv. Hybrid console is the most versatile and used for a working adult!

Re: Feature: The Day I Met Donkey Kong On Live TV

Illusion

Great article. I remember reading about giveaways like this in Nintendo Power, always wondered what winning one of those random contests would feel like. I used to have dreams of owning every Nintendo game, but nowadays I look back on the fond memories of what I did have and what my parents did get for me.
I grew up with Nintendo. I was a lucky kid too.
