Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - October 2018

Illusion

Valkyria Chronicles is a great game. Scouts die a bit too easy and jerks behind sandbags with interception fire normally wreck my day and so many missions fail to explain how to activate elevators or that there are locked doors and the Edelweiss tank is just a big instant-lose pile of explosives...BUT the game is really fun, the story is great, and I'm on the final chapter so I will see this through! 😆
for an easier and more fun experience see VC4, story is not as good though

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 3rd)

Illusion

Going to try to finish Valkyria Chronicles 1 this weekend. On the latter mission of chapter 16. Harder than VC 4, but the story is very good. Next big game for me will be the Atari Flashback Collection as well as SNK Anniversary, Fallout 76 and Pokemon Let's Go. Should be keep me occupied while I wait for the Genesis collection and Super Smash Ultimate.

Re: Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa On Missing Analyst Estimates: “The Holiday Season Battle Begins Now”

Illusion

@KingdomHeartsFan a good game can be played more than once.
Also the Switch's portable form factor makes it easier to play quickly during lunch breaks at work, when the main tv is occupied, or a quick gaming session while waiting for dinner or whatever.
As someone who didn't game enough during the early 2010s due to my busy and financially poor life I've also been able to grab up many titles I missed since I don't have a Steam account or PS4.
It works for me and many average consumers skipped the Wii U. (I didn't but I did miss out on a lot of games I wanted to buy.)
And before the pot calls the kettle black every system ports over its best games from the previous generation. Fact of life.
Its why Super Mario Bros 3 and Resident Evil are remembered fondly by gamers.

Re: Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa On Missing Analyst Estimates: “The Holiday Season Battle Begins Now”

Illusion

Was 2018 the same as 2017? No.
It did have a deluge of games though.
Bayonetta 1+2, Kirby Star Allies, Skies of Fury, Punchout Arcade, Go Vacation, Megaman Legacy 1+2, Megaman X Legacy 1+2, Pixeljunk Monsters 2, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon, Hyrule Warriors DE, Capcom Beatemup Bundle, Broforce, Nintendo Switch Online NES games, Valkyria Chronicles 1 and 4, Super Mario Party, Starlink, and coming soon Sega Genesis Classics, Atari Flashback Classics, Pokemon Let's Go, and Super Smash Bros Ultimate.
Different from 2017, but still fun.

Re: The Sega Mega Drive Turns 30 Today

Illusion

The Genesis was a good console for Sega exclusives. If a game was available on SNES also though, you're better off getting the SNES copy nearly 100% of the time.
That being said, I'll always love Sonic 1, Gunstar Heroes, Castlevania Bloodlines, Super Hangon, the Golden Axe trilogy, and the Streets of Rage trilogy(way better than Final Fight, yeah I said it.)

Re: Nintendo Download: 25th October (North America)

Illusion

Nothing for me this week, but just started playing Valkyria Chronicles on Switch so that'll be a week or three.
Waiting for SNK and Atari collections as my next game puchases. (Though Fallout 76 and Let's Go Eevee isn't too far off either which should keep me busy until Smash.)

Re: Capcom Has "Heard Community's Feedback" And Will Update Beat 'Em Up Bundle Next Month

Illusion

@DenDen $20 for 7 arcade games? Bought seperately at Arcade Archives prices would be $8 each or $56 altogether.
Also, downgraded home ports of these would've been $60 each on the SNES.
Just because something is old or because you could download MAME on a computer and steal these for nothing doesn't mean they shouldn't have any value.
Capcom is practically giving these away for the price of an hour worth of quarters at an arcade and I guarantee I spent more than $20 in quarters in freeplay continues to make it through every game.

Re: Starlink Producer Reveals How Ubisoft Started Work On Star Fox Concepts Before Meeting With Nintendo

Illusion

Got the digital deluxe. No regrets, it is the 3D space fighter free flowing base building game I've been looking for. My Starlink Alliance currently controls 100% of every planet, but there's still a lot of outposts to annex and the occasional star dreadnaught to shoot down. Once I feel satisfied with this playthrough I know I'll start a new game and conquer the star system in an entirely different way next time. Fun stuff.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 20th)

Illusion

Been blasting through Starlink. Shorter than I thought, but very fun (though the final boss on Normal was much easier than I thought he'd be, I felt overleveled for him. Had cleared out Atlas of all Primes, Extractors, Dreadnaughts, and Outlaw cruisers before I took him on.) Looks like there's a little postgame content which I'll finish up this weekend, but no regrets it's a great game worthy of some replays.
Also got Soul Calibur VI in the mail last night which I'll start on this afternoon on my regular Xbox One.
Maaaybe Super Mario Party with the wife if she feels up to it. Despite playimg through the music remix thing, 3 games of river rapids, 2 partner battle boards, and all 4 regular mario party boards I haven't unlocked single player mode yet. Bad RNG for unlocking all the games I guess. Fun though.
Dreaming of Valkyria Chronicles since I loved 4, but I won't purchase it till I'm done satisfied with Super Mario Party and Starlink playthroughs...so maybe next weekend.

Re: Capcom's Update For Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection Arrives Next Week

Illusion

Never picked it up. Ultra Street Fighter II is perfection to me, so why get a dozen other street fighters?
Just beat Starlink's main quest (I'll put more time into it, it was pretty fun) but I also just received Soul Calibur VI for Xbox One so that'll be a good weekend. (Only other fighter I get into other than Mortal Kombat Trilogy on 64 or Killer Instinct on SNES)

Re: Guide: Starlink Buyer's Guide - What You Get In The Physical And Digital Editions

Illusion

Really enjoying my $80 deluxe edition. The first hour I was worried it would be too difficult to be fun, but then I started learning how to fly/hover/and jump correctly. Game is actually deeper than I thought and reminds me of Herzog Zwei, Star Wars Clone Wars multiplayer, and Vostok Inc.
Break bases, build your own, set up automated resource gatherers and armies, then go break more things. Combat's pretty fun but scary if you get overwhelmed by numbers or enemies leveled way higher than you.

Re: Sega Wants Simultaneous Video Game Releases Worldwide

Illusion

I approve. I also want to see Sega thrive as a 3rd party studio. They drag their own good name through the mud too often with bad 3D Sonic games. I think they could either keep bankrolling smaller studios that know what they're doing like with Bayonetta 1, Sonic Mania, Wonderboy Dragon's Trap, and Streets of Rage 4 or if possible buy those studios up or hire on their best personnel to work directly for Sega. On Switch I currently own Bayonetta 1, (and 2, but yaknow Nintendo money) Sonic Mania, Puyo Puyo Tetris, and Valkyria Chronicles 4. Looking forward to Valkyria Chronicles 1, Streets of Rage 4, and the Genesis Collection. Hope Shenmue, Nights, Panzer Dragoon, Super Hangon, and the Sega F-Zero get ported over to Switch one day too.

Re: Famitsu No Longer Tracking Sales Of Wii U In Japan, Final Figure Stands At 3.3 Million

Illusion

For awhile I was unaware WiiU was a new console and not just a tablet controller. Back then I'd stopped reading IGN and other gaming news due to my work/home schedule. My friend decided for my birthday to get me the Wind Waker Wii U console around the time I realized it was Nintendo's next gaming rig. I avoided Wind Waker for awhile since I'd grown frustrated with the Forbidden Fortress stealth level and never returned to it on Gamecube. We went to Gamestop and bought New Super Mario Bros U, Super Luigi U, Super Mario 3D World and Nintendoland for very cheap prices. I enjoyed playing all the games, but only managed one playthrough of each. Wind Waker HD however blew me away with how pretty it was. It sounded great and was actually much more fun than I remembered it being as a teenager on gamecube. I've replayed the game and I'm sure I'll give it another playthrough in 2019. I also bought Smash Bros and Hyrule Warriors and had a blast playing both with my friend. So much that I rebought Hyrule Warriors for Switch and got to experience all the content I missed on the 3DS release. My final Wii U game was Twilight Princess HD and that game is more playable without the derezzed fog 20 feet away like my gameube version. Good game, but Wind Waker is just plain more fun. I also bought a number of SNES games on the Wii U VC because I figured it was the only legal way to reacquire them on a modern device. My 3DSXl was loaded up with 18 NES games and I almost didn't double dip...cept LoZ and Zelda II. The Wii U got me used to playing Nintendo games with a big pad which was convenient when I was up early in the morning or my wife wanted to watch shows that didn't engage me. I'm ready to move onto Switch. Reggie is right though, without being taught a brutal financial lesson with the Wii U, the Switch wouldn't be as successful as it is and will continue to be.

Re: Feature: What's New In Super Mario Party?

Illusion

@Jayenkai sounds like the map from Mario Party 8 on Wii where you would invest in hotels and whomever invested the most coins owned that particular hotel and its star rating.
One of my favorites from that game, though the dolphin boardwalk with pirate goombas or the shyguy train that rearranges itself were also great.

Re: Reminder: Three New NES Games Are Now Available To Play On Switch

Illusion

Loved half the initial batch of games, but unfortunately I gave each of these games 5 mins to grab me and wasn't happening. Hope someone has nostalgia for these 3 cause I sure don't. The Zelda rom hack is nice for beginners, but since I can play every part of the first quest without a walkthrough...I'm good without easy mode. Better luck next month for me. Least I've got lots of new Switch games ongoing and some coming out soon.

Re: Indie Dev Says Switch Is Easiest Console To Work With, Nintendo "Has Done A Complete 180"

Illusion

I'm more excited for Switch than I have been for any other console. Being able to take console quality games on the go is a great thing. I've also purchased far more indies than I would've without it. As a kid school was just a terrible block of time between me and my NES and Super Nintendo. These days there's work, but that feeling is still the same...cept when I play on lunchbreak. 😁

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Maddening Stance On Retro Gaming Is Driving Me To Piracy

Illusion

TLDR Nintendo please bring us more games faster. Rental service, Arcade Archives, or a collection of titles. Stick a price on it and people will buy it. My 6 purchases of Legend of Zelda say its true.
On my Switch I happily have the online service, all 4 Megaman collections, Capcom's Beatemup Bundle, 5 Neogeo games, arcade archives Punchout, and I've preordered the SNK and Sega Genesis collections. Waiting for Atari (confirmed coming) and Midway (in my dreams) collections as well. I want my Switch to be able to legally play as many games that I love as possible because hybrid console is king. (AKA I take it to work to unwind during lunchbreaks and can hide in some reclusive part of the house when the inlaws visit or play it next to my wife when the TV is dominated by a cooking show.)
I also have other collections (Atari Arcade collection, Midway Arcade treasures, Namco plugnplay, Sonic's Genesis collection) and modded devices(Xbox, SNES, and NES classics) but these all lack the portability factor that I covet my Switch for. Bring us the games Nintendo, we'll bring the $$$.

Re: Hamster's Arcade Archives Producer Was Surprised By Nintendo's Cooperation

Illusion

I do enjoy the novelty of owning Arcade Punchout in the palms of my hands. Though normally I put it in vertical mode and put it in a stand while I use a joycon in each hand....you get the idea. No other Nintendo Arcade game has been unique enough for me to slap down $8 per game though. Sky Skipper is not my cup of tea and I get NES versions of Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Mario Bros and Super Mario Bros with the Nintendo Online feature.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Hardware Bundle Deals

Illusion

Day one bundle with blue and red joycon, extra set grey joycons, pro controller, charging grip, Zelda BoTW collector's edition with Sheikah case, map, and coin, Zelda stickers for dock and joycons, hard cover guide, Fast RMX and Shovel Knight. Hundreds of hours of entertainment.

Re: Reggie Says Nintendo Competes For Consumer Time, Not Concerned About Direct Competition

Illusion

My wife complains that since I got the Switch Nintendo is the only company I give the time of day to. It's true though. Microsoft, Sony, modern movies, and TV are just looking for my $ without offering equivelant entertainment in return. Wheras my Switch has provided literally over a thousand hours of entertainment. 800 spent on Breath of the Wild, 200 on Shovel Knight, and 200 on Enter the Gungeon. Many other games I've racked up dozens of hours on. My only complaint is two broken left joycons, but given how much I've used them its understandable. I look forward to even more content in the future.
