Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 28th)

Illusion

Got my SNES Online controller in the mail last night and tested on a bunch of games. Works great with Contra, Castlevania, Megaman, Streetfighter, NES, and SNES online. Played through over half of Super Mario World and got through all of Star Road and Special. Going to be enjoying some great retro gaming with this.
Probably also play some Fallout New Vegas on Xbox One for the umpteenth time as well as walking the local park to catch the newest gen in Pokemon Go with the wife. We'll also watch some scary movies. Fall has put me in a mood for horror and candy. Might make it out to the theater for Downton Abbey the movie.

Playing through Genesis Collection on Switch and going to stop into my Contra and Castlevania collections on Switch to play their Genesis titles. Trying to not run to the store to get the Genesis mini because I already have basically all the Sega games I'd wish to play on Switch. Though an M2 Super Hangon would be a day 1 buy from me. Other than that, going to revisit some Daemon X Machina missions and blow some more stuff up while skipping dialogue.

Re: Hamster Is Bringing Balloon Fight, VS. Castlevania And More To Switch eShop

Illusion

@Moroboshi876 Castlevania and Balloon Fight are not a different enough experience to me to warrant getting the arcade versions when I already have perfectly playable NES versions of them on NES app and Castlevania Collection. I also think anyone who wants to collect SNK arcade games should do themselves a favor and get SNK 40th Anniversary for Switch instead of purchasing them one by one. The other arcade games I have no problem with. (Also, if these releases were the only way to play Balloon Fight and Castlevania, I would throw down the money for them, but they're not)
If/when Nintendo takes down the NES and SNES app I'll be bummed but I've got a modded NES mini, SNES mini, Xbox, and a MAME computer with all those games too. I just like paying money to own things portably because my job and family normally prevent me from enjoying those consoles in my mancave. 😅

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #8 - Metal Gear

Illusion

@Ichiyama I actually saw T2 (On VHS when I was 4 in 1991) years before Terminator (at a relative's house in 1995) I love them both, but T2 is just a hair better. Nowadays when I sit down to watch them, I don't watch one without the other. My dad didn't believe in censorship so by the time I was 4 my favorite movies consisted of T2, Robocop, Police Academy, and Aliens.
NA cover is the best.

Re: GameStop Set To Close 180 - 200 "Underperforming" Stores This Fiscal Year

Illusion

They were priced out, loss led, and outconvenienced to death by the internet and megastores. Not sure there was anything they could've done. Perhaps closed hundreds of locations years ago and offered better deals than the megastores? Diversified into more than just geek and sundry merch?
I'll be surprised if they manage to limp along to the launch of the PS5 and Xbox.

Re: Guide: The 20 SNES Games On Nintendo Switch Online, Ranked By Us

Illusion

For me:
Legend of Zelda Link to the Past, Super Mario World, F-Zero, Super Mario Kart, Pilotwings, and EDF are the best games on here. The rest just don't click with me(puzzlers, metroidvanias, sports, and Turn based RPGs)/I didn't grow up with them.
Excellent compliment to the Contra, Castlevania, Megaman X, Capcom Beatemupbundle, Ultra Street Fighter II and Secret of Mana Collections.
Hoping within a year to have most of my other faves on this app: Donkey Kong Country trilogy, Super Punchout, Kirby Superstar, Illusion of Gaia, EVO Search for Eden, Star Fox 2, Strike Gunner STG, Gradius III, Sim City, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, and Turtles in Time(unlikely).

Re: Feature: Where Does Nintendo Switch Fit In The PS5 And Xbox Project Scarlett Next-Gen War?

Illusion

Switch is where my gaming lives now.
I have an Xbox One, but only a handful of games. Dragon Age, Halo 5, and Fallout games are the only reason I purchased the Xbox One, but EA, 343, Bungie, Microsoft, and Bethesda all majorly let me down. (Did not like Halo 5, Gears 4, Anthem, Destiny, Battlefront II, and Fallout 76 have all been of questionable quality. The trailer for Halo Infinite looks nice, but I worry for the future of AAA that I enjoy. (Never had a Playstation, their exclusives have never interested me)
Looking forward to Castle Crashers, SNES, Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon Shield, Animal Crossing, FNAF, AVGN, 198X, King of Cards, Shovel Knight Dig, and Breath of the Wild 2 on Switch. +Having almost every game I love portable is the ultimate victor. No fighting for the TV and I can take it to work.

Re: Feature: The History Of Streets Of Rage

Illusion

Played Streets of Rage on our Genesis Model 3 in the mid 90s on the 6-pak cartidge that came with it. Loved the music and gameplay. Caused me to purchase genesis collections to have the trilogy on Xbox 360 and Switch. Played Final Fight years later and it felt like a clunky Streets of Rage prototype in comparison.

Re: Poll: Have You Ever Had Problems With Nintendo Hardware?

Illusion

NES stopped turning on in 2000.
N64 Video out broke in 2011. (Luckily my bro had bought a spare when the gamecube came out)
3 N64 controllers joysticks broke.
2 left joycon joysticks broke 13 months after getting launchday system. (were both repaired for free last week)
Non-Nintendo bonus:
Xbox controller joysticks broke.
Xbox 360 red ring of death.
I think my Xbox One is dying now....just trying to make me buy an Xbox One X.
Super bonus: 5 VCRs, 5 DVD players, and 4 bluray players. Can't tell if my family watches too much or if these just have a high rate of failure.

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo DS Games

Illusion

Never owned a DS. From this list I've learned that you should buy anything Pokemon, Professor Layton, Phoenix Wright, Castlevania, or Dragon Quest related. Also Super Nintendo and 64 ports. Seemed like a good little system.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects - July 2019

Doom is still ultra fun, especially now that it's on the go. Beat the game on easiest mode and now I'm replaying on medium. Doom II I'm currently stuck on lvl 14 and will have to watch someone on youtube play it to find the next key. Pretty puzzly. Glad I could play any of the 20 extra levels right away. Beat roughly half of those.
Blazing Chrome is awesome. All Contra fans need that game. (I can only beat it on the easiest difficulty though, pretty brutal game.)
