It disappointing but if it has to be...fine. I logged over 1,500 hours on New Leaf, so yeah, take the time you need, Nintendo. New Horizons has an awful lot to live up to.
It is a very sad day. Most of my friends stopped playing within the first couple of weeks and ultimately, I started harvesting friends of friends of friends who I thought gave funny responses. These were people I had never met. People all over the planet. Over the past two years some incredibly strong relationships were made. The majority of these people were great writers or designers and were therefore, able to expertly utilize everything that Miitomo had to offer via its nutty thread starters or its Miifoto function. Over the past two years, a lot of strangers became very good friends. I followed one guy & his wife through the pregnancy & birth of their first son. Or the guy who got a cancer diagnosis last September and a clean bill of health this last April. Awesome. More passive than typical social media & more personal than following someone’s blog, it was such an odd & spectacular little app for those who stuck with it. And you did have to in order to really unearth its value. Unique, absurd and singular in it’s approach that lacked any immediacy, it was less about Miis and more about pen pals. Because everyone was donning some nut-ball outfit & was already in a good mood, communication was a positive experience unlike the trolling and negativity so prevalent elsewhere on the Internet. It was an out-on-a-limb, one-of-a-kind weirdo-app, it was very much beloved by its fans and I, as one of them, am sorry to see it go.
This looks fresh...here’s hoping that music choice is indicative of the game’s overall tone. The story tease has piqued my curiosity & the art direction really appears to set its own rules. I’m in; maybe not right away, but it’s definitely going on the wishlist.
This argument feels very generational. As a child, I loved "The A Team", a lot. But you couldn't stream it or DVR it; it wasn't On Demand. It was broadcast on Tuesdays. That's all. Tuesdays only. And that made Tuesdays awesome! For those who don't know, there is a schedule for Salmon Run times in-game in the options. I frequently plug the times into my phones calendar and I've been known to plan around it. (The fact that it's not in the app is infuriating) Personally, I like that those Salmon Run times are special. I like that we don't have Splatfest 24/7/365. I anticipate them. I look forward to them. If they happened constantly, they wouldn't be events. Like the old saying goes: "If wishes were horses, it would be Christmas every day".
I've prefer to use the D-pad when playing Mario Kart, and the directional buttons make precision during a power slide really clunky. I would love a proper D-pad.
Yeah, I can't explain why the game is so enjoyable for me but at 220 hours, I must like it. Ultimately, it feels less like a game and more a piece of creativity software. And once I start designing a room, it's not uncommon for me to spend 2-3 hours perfecting it.
I would love no Blood Moons...If, for no other reason than there are certain heavily wooded areas that I find disorienting, and I would love to clear-cut them once and for all!
@Bunkerneath The N64 version allowed you to play with 8 players simultaneously. You shared a controller with your teammate, which sounds odd, but it worked fine. Just so much screaming! To this day, my favorite gaming experience ever.
I wish I would have tried the button controls, but I kept thinking that the motion controls would eventually 'click' for me. Unfortunately they never did; character mobility seemed very sluggish, curved shots tough to execute & my blocks frequently resulted in an inadvertant punch thrown. A good, thorough in-game tutorial could probably remedy all of that and hopefully, the full game has it. Additionally, I won 6 or 7 games in a row simply by alternating left and right punches and constanly jumping which seems a little light on strategy. All of that nonwithstanding, I still intend to purchase as I strongly suspect there is a lot more finesse involved than what I was able to glean from a limited demo. I would gladly invest the time it would take to learn its intricacies.
@Crono1973 I was speaking of storage of music and movies and how it relates to the fact that I don't need to own every piece of media I've ever encountered. Upon rereading, that wasn't entirely clear and I can see where you might have been confused. My bad.
Ultimately the point is that, with the exception of a middling few, games of this generation are not things I need to own anymore. When Nintendo gave away those 20 free NES games to early adopters of the 3DS, I found that I played them a few times and then deleted them. (I can only play Donkey Kong for so long before I start wanting to put my head through a wall)
When the offerings are of later generation, perhaps I'll care more. But as it stands, what we know for certain is that the news is pretty great: $10 less than what we originally anticipated! And until we get the definitive word that the Virtual Console is DOA, I refuse to get my panties in any sort of twist.
Wow. So so much negativity. Internet people...never be happy. I was just excited that the price tag was scaled back by 30%! And I love the subscription concept...If I had to buy outright every movie I watched on Netflix and every song I listened to on Apple Music, I'd be spending so much on storage.
Also, you don't need to be able to see in order to play "Space Channel 5". Speaking of which, "Sega? Can I please get a sequel or at the very least a remaster?"
It's my belief that when playing online, acceleration is key because you ARE going to get hit by something eventually.
Also, in my opinion, the Cloud Glider is the only way to go because it tapers up in the center making it the only glider with an unobstucted view of hovering coins and where you're going to touch down.
I will definitely pick this one up...I have such great memories of the work they produced. Also, would love to see some of the original artwork for Dinosaur Planet before it got shoe-horned into Star Fox Adventures, as well as anything from my all-time favourite: Jet Force Gemini.
@Tyranexx I agree...the first thing that popped into my head was a Tingle puzzle game...I could see boards being themed after various locations and in turn, utilize their corresponding music.
@MetaRyan Exactly! I am SO ready for Animal Crossing mobile and I would love to see one of these mobile games work in conjunction with its Switch counterpart...there are so many possibilities there!
I love Cloudtop Cruise for the music alone, but I sure do miss my Maple Treeway...there was always that star hidden in the leaves that you could exploit when you were in first place.
@ThomasBW84 Just curious, do I have the option to steer with the directional buttons as as opposed to the stick, as we could on the Wii U. That is really my preference. Thanks!
@Gitgud In total agreement. I never used it during racing, but it was worthwhile in time trials. The thing is that the mechanic was available to everyone. And as I've spouted for over 20 years, (whether devs intended or not), "It's not cheating, if the game allows you to do it."
I adored 200cc! There was so much finesse invovled & great new shortcuts to access. Granted, on my first outing with it, I felt like it 'broke' the game, but I just had to train myself to lay off the accelerator. Most imortantly, choose a vehicle with great acceleration and Terrible speed...you'll be going fast enough.
Hooray, I did this yesterday at work because I'm a dork! It looks pretty cool, but also a bit odd to be sitting on the desk of a 47 year old. What do I have to do to get fired from this job? Here's a tip: Use card stock.
This looks alright, but what the Switch really needs is its own online "Clubhouse Games" so I can play Chess, Backgammon, Gin, Poker, Hearts, Mahjong, Hanafuda etc. That little cart got the most play on my DS, and would be a wonderful thing to have downloaded onto the Switch, especially factoring in the portability component.
An update on Animal Crossing Mobile, and how it will work in conjunction with Animal Crossing Switch. And then tell me that they're both coming in October. Deal? Deal.
@SMW exactly! I had the same thought, since we are no longer just glancing down at another screen that map does need to be hold X, it's there/release X, it goes away.
We would have all of these services now if Nintendo wasn't withholding them for fall.
Make no mistake, all of these will be there in that subscription pitch; Nintendo will raise the curtain: "Come join us for our online services and you'll get a New/Old Game each month! plus Netflix! Hulu! Amazon! a browser! some trail mix! ...and a plate-spinning monkey named Shep!"
For anyone confused aboud the box size, it's for retailer loss prevention and, I'd imagine, shelf visibility...sort of like the long-boxes CD's were sold in when they first appeared in the '80's.
As to the cart size? I'm concerned that once I've amassed a library of these little guys, what I'll have is a handfull of VERY spendy confetti. These are going to require a dedicated case where they all can live together. Where's Club Nintendo when you need it?
@Andrzej777 Microtransactions indeed! For the most part I'm fine with amiibo cards (AC:NL used them well), but I cannot, in good conscience, support this behavior. Count me out. I can only hope that this tactic does negatively impact the overall sales of the software itself. Gross.
@Ryu_Niiyama Where do you find them...I've have checked online and came up with nothing. The only deck I ever had was from Club Nintendo. Oh, how I miss it...
Was anything utilizing the touch functionality? That is my primary concern. Over the past 12 years I have gotten so very accustomed to using it for anything inventory...I just need to know that it's there and it works fine. The styluses can go. I just lose them all the time anyway!
Hooray for Pocket Card Jockey!
I have logged more hours into that game than any other this year. Well over 100!
(Unless you count all of the hours logged trying to get all of my Pokemon registration & account set-up.)
I recently checked my play history, and I've logged over 100 hrs on this bewitching little budget title. It is, for me, the ideal handheld game and utilizes the systems capabilities perfectly.
The randomness has been an isuue for some but I feel it embodies the spirit of a day at the track. You can analyze the racing forms, research a horse's history, calculate statistics, but at the end of the day it's just an educated guess. It still comes down to the luck of the draw.
