I'm certain that it's legacy for me will be much like that of the Sega Dreamcast: An often overlooked and quickly abandoned system with a stunted library that that I played ravenously. I will remember it VERY fondly. And the pad? When anyone bothered to utilize it correctly(Splatoon, NintendoLand multiplayer), it was wonderful.
This is just such and odd, ridiululous and goofy little product that it's actually pretty cool and will likely generate 'face palms' when we look back on it years from now. Therefore, I'm probably going to fall for it if it will fit my 47 year-old wrist.
@UK-Nintendo You'll find the Sidekick Mii creation in the Menu under Edit Mii. There where you would normally edit your own Mii, there is now an option to create a sikekick.
This update is SO welcome. I never really stopped playing because at its launch, I mined my Twitter and multiple message boards for 'makeshift friends', most of whom I didn't know. I wound up with a friend list of about 30 to 40 people, which has now dwindled down to about 12, as people abandoned the app. Nonetheless, I've gotten to know that handful of once unknown users pretty well; almost like pen-pals. It's that fascinating component that has kept me engaged. Now, throw in these new bells and whistles, and the fact that it takes up so much less space on my phone, and I'll be sticking around. Thanks, Nintendo.
When it comes to accessories, I don't want much: I just want an add-on camera, I want stabilized/perfected AR, and I want to play Pikmin on my coffee table!
There is no true death knell here. The 3DS library is so extensive and there are so many games left that I've missed over the past few years, that I will definitlely buy another New 3DS XL when the price drops. There is a lot of mileage left in that little machine.
@MysticX They could segment the screen into two. Remember how Pokemon Stadium allowed you to play GB games onyour television without utilizing the entire screen. I wouldn't rule anything out yet. We know so little.
The "no camera" thing surprises me, I was hoping for a little perfected AR. Nonetheless, possible peripheral later and keeps the cost down now. Also, is there any reason that the screen couldn't be segmented into dual screens for DS backwards compatability? That cartridge looks awfully familiar. It is, after all, a touch screen. If it isn't I'll eat my hat!
I haven't played a Pokemon game proper since Diamond/Pearl due to the franchise's repeitive nature year after year. This however, looks to be the overdue step forward that'll win me back. I'm in!
Interesting marketing. I played it yesterday for about 2 hours right after it was available in NA, and then felt done. Now I have a reason to go back and that will keep it in the consciousness until launch. Smart.
Yeah, it's extraordinarily frustrating. Nonetheless, I trust this company and I truly suspect that the secrecy is an indication that there is a forthcoming tech aspect that none of us can see coming. It's holograms, or perfected AR...perhaps our games will finally exist on our coffee tables. I trust that this will be worth the wait.
A couple more honorable mentions: *Phantasy Star Online...not a GC exclusive, but my first experience with online gaming...Over 800 hours invested! *Sega Soccer Slam...horribly marketed, no mascots, but so much fun!
The ONE thing I want/need is an option to select multiple Pokemon when you're ready to transfer. Let me transfer the 30 Pidgeys I don't have sufficient candy to evolve all at once, rather than going into each one individually.
@samuelvictor Let us not forget the joyous idiocy of Chu Chu Rocket, Samba De Amigo, Typing of the Dead, Ooga Booga or Space Channel 5.
Seaman. Jet Grind Radio. Phantasy Star. And it hurts to even type Shenmue.
Oh...noble Dreamcast. Nothing that burns that brightly, burns for very long.
(it's thinking)
I just want a working tracker. I'm the kind of gamer who needs the carrot in front of his nose...or the Ekans, somewhere in that direction...LET ME HUNT!
What a sight for sore eyes...I am SO in! Okay, so we have our spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie... Now, former Rare devs, we need one for Jet Force Gemini. No joke. I'll wait here.
When it comes out in NA, I'll get it on day one! And then I'll play it and take lots of pictures! And THEN...I'll take my memory card and go down to my local Blockbuster, pop it into the Pokemon Snap kiosk and print out all of my lovely STICKERS!
Wait...what? No sticker kiosks? But that was the very best part about this game?!? Drat.
Played it for well over a year and had quite a bit of fun with it. But ultimately it ran its course for me. I much prefer the payment setup that Pokemon Rumble World employs whereby there is a cap on how much you can spend and eventually you've purchased the game outright. Nonetheless, cheers to new players and anyone still enjoying it!
Wow, those are pretty high concept and marketing-wise, aiming at a relatively specific demographic. Clearly not cheap to produce and all around pretty sweet. My only question is: Being so long, what market are they airing these in?
Here's the logic I'm hearing: "Mario is a game about jumping and running left to right! Why did they have to put him in a go-kart? That's not a true Mario game. I shall shun this Kart spin-off! And if people buy this Kart game, that'll be the end of real Mario games forever!"
First, Iwata/DeNA announce intent to venture into mobile gaming. We know Animal Crossing mobile is coming. Pokemon Go is an absolute juggernaut. And now inside word that:
Nintendo seems set on trying to upgrade smartphone gamers.
I strongly suspect that the NX marketing campaign began all the way back with that Iwata-inked partnership 16 months ago and that these mobile games are lures into a larger system. Why tie a new Pokemon title into Sun/Moon, when you could reach a larger non-traditional gaming market by integrating it with Pokemon Go? (A new Pokemon Stadium?) They are swimming in free PR right now... Throw in a Zelda title at launch and we're off to the races. It would be brilliant marketing. Were this to be true...I would love them forever just for the foresight!
I'd completely forgotten about Tetrisphere's music! And BAR--though I don't believe I ever actually took note of it at the time due to the game's frenetic nature.
But why no love for Jet Force Gemini? Of all N64 scores, that's the one I still hit YouTube up for now and then. Those orchestrations were epic and so varied; reaching for a level of cinema unlike anything I could remember before. Listen if you like: John Williams
I am SO confused... Is this 'bracelet' that we're calling a 'ring' required to execute Z moves in-game? Because if not...well...then...WOW... I am just SO confused.
I don't think I'll sell it but on the other hand it doesn't bode well that I played it only on its first weekend and haven't had any desire to play it again since. I enjoyed the motion control aiming mechanism but the all-range/target mode just felt unnecessarily clunky, inaccurate and almost broken. Makes me sad.
I must be the oldest person here. My earliest memories of going to the arcade don't have any video games in them at all. In the early '70s, my father would take me to the arcade and they consisted primarily of pinball, skee-ball and the best thing ever: the shooting gallery cabinet! They looked similar to upright arcade cabinets but instead of a joystick there was a pivoting firearm of some sort. My favorite had a haunted graveyard theme and skeletons and ghosts would pop up from behind tombstones, a witch would fly by and everything was painted day-glo and there was a black light inside the diorama. ...very scary. These were real, solid and tangible things on the other side of that glass
And then there was a sit down unit that used a table-top-esque design and consisted of a sheet of glass--painted on the inside with a top-down city map. There was a steering wheel that you'd use to maneuver a red light (your cop car) on the underside of the glass to chase a blue light (the bad guy). So simple but so ingenious and such an obvious precursor of things to come. They really were awesome and so much simple fun.
And then "Pong" showed up.
It's a forgotten era of gaming.
@Thegentleman Exactly. I have no problem with the Free to Start model employed by Pokemon Rumble World. I was thrilled when I discovered there was a cap on how much you were allowed to spend and that ultimately you've bought the game outright.
In real life, I love to play the ponies! Nothing makes me happier than a good day spent at the track--which incidentally also entails a great deal of luck. I'm very pleased that they took that into consideration and implemented it into the game. If horse racing is a component of what we're attempting to emulate, it kind of needs to be there. I'm all in!
I miss AC:NL so much. I would open it and play again, but I've been away more than a year and if I did now, one of my beloved villagers will have moved. Unacceptable. Changing the system clock will interfere with other games. There should be a giftable in-game item that charms villagers into staying until you decide otherwise.
