There's a lot of freedom in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and it seems that this freedom may be more expansive than we first thought. During our time playing our curiosity bested us and we've discovered a whole array of funny, quirky, and even some marginally practical features that certainly aren't spelled out to us by the software.
So make sure you check out the video above where we flaunt a paltry 13 of these crazy things before your very eyeballs, and if you've discovered something equally unusual make sure you let us know what that is in the comments section below.

Cool. The weapon electricity thing is especially awesome.
13 Things You Can Do in Zelda: Breath of the Wild that You Might Not Know About 10 will have you shocked!
The electricity thing is amazing!
Baked apples though. Such a waste. I hate getting them, I'd rather make dishes that gave more health!
Looks cool, and fun. Although that lag at one point >_>
I'll watch this when the game arrives.
"You can drop a rock on a Korok's head."
I laughed out loud. Because I've indavertently done it so many times and felt so guilty.
@Nintendoforlife Become a pro in Zelda: Breath of the Wild using this one weird trick!
@NEStalgia Find out the shocking claims this celebrity made about Legend of Zelda
#14 make you lose touch with your friends and loved ones. Because who needs those distractions when Zelda and Hyrule need you?
Lightning won't just hit you if you're carrying metal objects, they'll hit enemies if they're carrying them too. Was able to beat one of the huge moblins because of a lucky lightning strike on him.
@shaneoh I was freaking out the one and only time I've been caught in a lightening storm and saw my weapon arcing. I threw my weapon on the ground and ran just before it struck This game is too lifelike!
can't play the game atm due to his left arm being in a cast
sees this but doesn't watch the video...
@NEStalgia
You've only been caught in one lightning storm? I'm getting them every time I play the game. The first time I saw my weapon arcing I guessed what was going to happen and waited for the inevitable, because fun. Like jumping off the first cliff when the game starts
I'd personally suggest not to watch the video and just to play the game and discover for yourself. It's so much better that way.
I have another one - you can use the stasis rune as a kind of detective vision to find all collectables in the field
If you kill a plain ChuChu with an elemental weapon (tested with the swords), you usually get element ChuChu Jelly from it. It seems that killing one while it's still electrified will not convert the jelly.
You can buy a house.
Alex! You beautiful man! Thanks for the second orb thang. That was driving me mental.
Finding out how to do things in this game has been a blast but water seems to be my absolute biggest enemy.
One tower was surrounded by electro mages and a moat, boy was I having a difficult time. Decided to focus on more shrines to get stronger.
As daft as the deer riding is, it serves an important purpose!
The things you do in this game are just incredible, the solutions you'll invent.
The electricity one really was astounding though!
@Musashiden For that one I used the cryonis rune to make platforms leading to the tower. Man I did it fast as hell thought because the mages were trying to target me.
@razorthin That's a great idea, didnt think I'd have enough time to lay the platforms down
Ride a deer and pretend that your playing a game of princes mononoke!(i know it's an elk.....)
Knew about everything except the melons one. That one got me laughing. =)
@UK-Nintendo
(Looking at Season Pass retail)
Is that for real ? In physical media ?
@shaneoh LOL, maybe it's a location thing where some places are more likely to get them and I haven't been there much!
I found those two orbs, but I did use that method in a shrine, the game is really neat in many ways.
This is a game where people are gonna be discovering secrets for years to come I'd bet, such a magical title with sooo much to do and see .
@Anti-Matter Unfortunately not, it's just a 'dummy' box you can take up to the register to receive a redemption code for the expansion pass.
The only thing i learnt was how to get Cuccos to lay eggs and the melons, which was amusing despite not being useful at all. Still a good video. You can also mount a goat.lol
I'm playing the game with a strategy guide since I wanna complete it but don't wanna figure everything out on my own. Apparently you need to ride a deer to a certain shrine to open it up. Given my phobia of deer, this will definitely be the last step to completing the game.
"You can ride deer!"
That.... that was exactly the answer I needed to solve a mystery. YEY! It wasn't giving the direct answer, but rather reminding me that you can ride other large animals like bears. Heh heh.
Boo, where was the outtake Alex?
The electricity link is amazing though
@Anti-Matter no. Just preorder display
If only I had it!!
The second orb is on the lift in the other hump of the camel. , You grab it the same way you caught the other one. It took me forever to find it
Man, it's getting harder and harder to roam about spoiler-free on Zelda these days. Really have to constrain myself not taking a peek at some vids -so much questions!
Haha, in the minecart thingy, instead of using a bomb, I used the stasis rune to move it... it goes quite fast ;P
What a pair of melons you have, Alex.
Some of the puzzles remind me of point-and-click games and that's an excellent thing. You have to think about what items you have and you can interact with them and the environment to find a solution. I don't know how they top this version of Zelda in terms of pure gameplay. That's the issue when making a definitive version, I suppose.
I want to read this article, but it will have to wait until my 2nd playthrough. Why spoil the sense of discovery?
@Sakura excellent point on both fronts; point and click is one of my fav genres, and I don't know how they'll top this either... I think this is the reason that the devs (Aonuma and co) decided to make dlc. They said that they had created this huge expansive world, so why don't they add more to it rather than starting on a new game. Personally, I'm all for them to elongate the playability and enjoyment in this game by adding as much dlc as they like, whilst still thinking about the next one... glad it's not my job, no wait, I'd love his job!
@SanderEvers Dude, I can't even use my thumb.
Just found out today, you can do extra poses, other than using the left joystick, if you hold down ZL whilst doing them, you'll do extra ones!
@Baker1000 The good thing about food such as baked apples and particularly icy meat is that they don't take up as much inventory space (you could have 100+ seared steaks taking up one inventory slot) so food items like that are useful.
