Re: Opinion: I'm Celebrating Super Mario Bros.' 40th Anniversary By Finally Finishing It

@SalvorHardin have you only played the all stars version? In the original NES version you have to start the whole game all over unless you use the continue code.
@The_Nintendo_Pedant I've been guilty of that mindset in the past. And after playing games like Classic Castlevania, RE, Tomb Raider, etc. I've changed my mind on the whole thing. Learning the controls can absolutely be part of the fun of a game.

@Jack_Goetz Metroid Prime 4 was revealed in 2017 actually (why on earth would they have revealed it before the Switch was even revealed?). Mario Kart World was quite fun to me and a lot of other people. Am I not a true fan because of that??? Nintendo console hardware has been underpowered since 2006 (debatably 2004) and that whole thing was reallt started by Iwata actually. Its not like the Wii and Wii U were super cheap either, especically the Wii U (I do like these consoles though). The Switch 2 at least has the excuse of being a portable device. You're allowed to have your own opinion, but you clearly don't have much perspective. Too trapped in your own outrage and disdain to see outside of that.

@Jack_Goetz You are simply one person who is entitled to his opinion, but Nintendo's output today clearly appeases more fans than its 2015 output. Splatoon and Mario Maker are about the only fan appeasing games released in 2015. Xenoblade X was super niche and even somewhat divisive at the time among its community for it's deviation from the original Xenoblade. I know Federation Force was 2016, but I picked it to represent the overall vibes of the era at the time to most fans. It was revealed in 2015 as well, so it was part of that year in a sense.

@Nintendo_Thumb Original Super Mario Bros has a certain appeal that no other Mario games have due to its simplicity. The levels are pretty all built so you can just run straight through them without stopping much which gives it that speedrun appeal. And the runtime is just short enough to where the simplicity doesn't get old and again it makes it replayable. I have learned to appreciate SMB1 more as I've gotten older. That being said, I would never argue its better than SMW,SMB3 or Wonder. But hey I get it.
