@aaronsullivan Buying a console to play a game is already expected tho. But for them to make this game not only a mobile exclusive but a subscription is seriously stupid. Even if I owned an Apple device this would be seriously annoying. A game like this just works better on Switch/ps5/Xbox Series/PC. Using a controller on a mobile phone is just kinda awkward. And even if you buy a device just for the game, you also have to pay a neverending sub fee just to get that value you paid for that device. Not to mention I'm not going to own two smartphones. This is just insanity frankly.
Yea his Wario voice doesn't sound great... All respect to Afgani, but I hope Wario gets recast at some point. He can stay for Mario and Luigi tho as he sounds good for those characters.
@IceClimbersMain Yea I kinda forgot about that. Would be a cool surprise though. I do think if an "Ultimate Deluxe" ever happens, at least some of the Mii fighters would likely turn to real fighters. But I would prefer a reboot of the series that refreshes the characters movesets honestly.
@HeadPirate " The comment section is an amazing study of how powerful the Mandela effect can be online, and how impossible it can be to dispel misinformation once the masses accept it as true.
Almost everyone agrees on the "fact" that "The Lost Levels" is the hardest game. But "The Lost Levels" is NOT a re-release of the JP "Super Mario Brothers 2". It is a modified version of that game, the only difference being that it is MUCH easier due to checkpoints and being able to see plosion mushrooms much easier. TLL was released in Japan, directly marketed as a easier, more accessible version of the original.
So almost everyone is presenting and defending an argument they do not actually support, because if your opinion is that TLL is the hard, then clearly TLL with fewer checkpoints is harder.
The misunderstanding that SMB2-JP is identical to "The Lost Levels" is so prevalent that there is almost unanimous agreement on a point that is objectively and verifiability incorrect.
@HeadPirate also a somewhat easier rerelease is still the same game at the end of the day. You wouldn't say Super Mario Bros Deluxe isn't still Super Mario Bros just bc they added a save feature and unlimited continues? Although perhaps they should specify versions in this specific case since we are talking difficulty...
@HeadPirate except the Lost Levels IS the same game as they gave the original FDS version that title when they released it on Wii/Wii U Virtual Console. So it doesn't just refer to the SMAS version. Plus they're all just called "Super Mario Bros 2" in Japan if you want to talk about the original Japanese releases .
@HeadPirate Super Mario Bros 2 USA is absolutely still a "real" mainline Mario game. It got a release in Japan as "Super Mario USA". It introduced reoccurring Mario characters like Birdo and Bob-omb. It introduced Luigi's modern proportions. It even started development as a Mario game before it shifted and Nintendo eventually got the Yume Kojo license.
@Chaotic_Neutral I can't speak for Series X, but ps5 installs the game off the disc itself, not the internet. No idea why this misconception keeps spreading around. There are some single player games that require patches to play, but frankly the problem is quite a bit worse on Switch; coming from a lifelong Nintendo fan.
I think things would be at least passable if Konami has shipped the core three games you buy the collection for on the cart and everything else as a download. Buy this release is just pointless lmao. Picking this up on ps5.
@Nintendo_Thumb If a game is great, it will inherently be more replayable. I love the NSMB games, but in general they are pretty generic and samey without the massive amount of secret exits of World (not to mention small nitpicks like Yoshi not being able to go from level to level or not being able to throw shells up.).The secret exits gave World way more replayability in my opinion since there's so many ways of getting to Bowser's Castle. Also I would say if you want the game to keep track of your dragon coins, play Advance 2 on GBA (Its the same game but it keeps track of your dragon coins). Also, World's relatively short length also makes it easier to pick up and play at any time. You don't need nostalgia googles to see that World is a fantastically designed game. I grew up with every 2d Mario game, (NSMBDS was my first) and yet World is still my favorite.
@Nintendo_Thumb None of that stuff is inherently better. It's just stuff that's been added to differentiate Wonder (and other newer Mario games) from World. World is a fantastically designed game with a huge connected map with tons of secret exits, and unique level mechanics. It's honestly strange to see Nintendo fans disrespect an old game just for being old. I thought we were better than that.
@Quarbit I have played indie platformers. Like Celeste, Meat Boy, etc. They just polish up most of the platformer foundations in the 8 and 16 bit era for the most part.
@Darthmoogle Most newer 3d Mario games have really challenging levels tucked away in the postgame. Even NSMBWii, 2 and U had levels akin to the Star Road from SMW. There's a good chance this game will have something like that as well.
Remember guys, difficulty is subjective. I personally find all mainline Mario games to be easy, even Mario 3. You have no idea how good the reviewer is at platformers so it could be more challenging for you. Also, what revolutionary things are possible with a 2d platformer at this point? With a genre that's existed for 40 years, there isn't much left that's not already been done lol.
@Alckemy yes but you definitely expect a certain type of game when you buy a mainline 2d Mario game. Casuals would be so offput by a metroidvania in that situation for one.
@EaglyBird A lot of "definitive" editions these days like Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition, Fallout 4 GotY edition, etc, actually have the dlc on a download code. Still sucks though no doubt. Could they really not have just launched this on the same day as the second part of the DLC???
@TheMegaMarshtomp is that different in the EU? In the US, its just a year. But I find that even within a year it'll still glitch out a lot of times. Lol
@TheMegaMarshtomp Just to give you a head ups. Gold point redemption never works on games that get physical releases later on after the digital release.
@Keman There is no leak that says Switch is on par with ps5. DLSS could help Switch 2 get a lot closer to ps5 even with around ps4 specs, which is probably what you've been hearing.
@Haruki_NLI tbf most of that was "Switch Pro", not a true successor. But I think some people are desperate for Ninty to keep up with the competition, specs wise lol
@HeadPirate buddy there were still Gamecube games that targeted 30 fps. Framerate is still a thing on old consoles. If it wasn't you couldn't plug them into modern tvs. And frankly most of this just reads like excusing poor optizimation. Even if TTYD doesn't "need" 60 fps.
@johnvboy Sega tried to change with the times tho. Dreamcast was the first console to have online built in. Sega's main problem was the total opposite of complacency. Being way too risky and coming out all of these different consoles and consoles models and stuff.
@shgamer 360 emulation is very much not that well developed tho. The only well developed 360 emulators out there are Xenia (which is not optimized well enough to work on Switch) and Microsoft's own internal 360 emulator for the Xbox One and Series Consoles.
@shgamer that would explain MGS2 running at 30 fps which has literally never gone that low? But it would be interesting if its 360 emulation since I would think porting the games would be easier than writing a 360 emulator from scratch for ps4/5, Xbox Series x/s and Switch.
@CharlieGirl I know people personally (as a 20 year old) that didn't want to play Mania due to its pixel art style. I think that's dumb but there's definitely a lot of people out there like that. Also as Sega doesn't release good sale numbers for their sales numbers for their games, there's no way to know how well Sonic Mania sold beyond the initial 1 million Sega posted on the Sonic Twitter.

Wow Nintendo bundling the Switch with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe? How very shocking.

@HeadPirate Not that comment but you have corrected other comments on this thread

Yoshi's Island and Wario Land aren't mainline Mario games . But I would say Lost Levels is hardest, whether you mean any% or 100%.
