Re: Soapbox: Endless Zelda Remakes Are A Poor Substitute For Backwards Compatibility

HammerKirby

I think remasters and remakes can be great even besides just having a game on a new console. QoL tweaks can help a game play a lot better and new graphics alongside it being a new big release can help expose the game to a lot more people than backwards compatability would. But yeah ideally Nintendo would have a much better system for old content as people have been saying for like a decade. Not every game will get a remaster or remake so there needs to be a better system.

@iLikeUrAttitude Haven't played Monster Hunter, but SMT V, while good, doesn't scratch the Pokemon itch whatsoever. The demon designs aren't meant to be appealing in the same way and they're meant to be disposable. It also doesn't have the same sense of wonder and adventure that the (good) pokemon games have. I love other JRPGs but they don't scratch the same itch that Pokemon does for me.

Re: Random: People Are Getting Pretty Worried About Splatoon 3

HammerKirby

@Crockin That would be fine, but if they don't any big new innovations they should at least wait till the next console. A big in house Nintendo series getting more than one game on the same console is not something that happens super often and that opportunity feels wasted here even if it will be a good game.

@moodycat ? Mario and Zelda change pretty drasticlly from entry to entry aside from a few expections like NSMB or whatever. In fact I feel like Odyssey and BotW kinda set the expectation that the Switch was going to revolutionize more series but it didn't end up happening that much to other franchises.

@samuelvictor I would argue Mario 64 was more of a departure from the 2d Mario games than people act like. When I was a child it was weird playing Mario 64 DS when I had only played 2d Mario at the time. No question blocks, lack of focus on power-ups, less but bigger levels, etc. I still loved it tho (Mario 64 is actually my favorite game of all time) of course, but we wouldn't really get that true 2d to 3d transition imo until 3d Land although the galaxy games came close in some respects. In my mind Mario and Sonic both had to change fairly signifcantly when they made the jump to 3d, due to the technical constrants at the time. Now we've far past reached the point where it wouldn't be possible tho so I would love to see a 3d Sonic with physics, momentum, rolling and whatnot. The Adventure games and Gens are some of my favorite games ever, but so are Sonic 2,3&K, and Mania, so I would love to see to what they could with it.

@samuelvictor Yeah I get where you're coming from. I would just like to see some more creavivity like in the examples I mentioned rather than looking exactly the same as Green Hill looked like Sonic 1 (or worse like Forces. Green Hill looks so dead in that game to me. It's too washed out.) I still love completely different feeling openers like Emerald Coast and City Escape.

Re: Sonic Frontiers Shows Off Cyber Space And Switch Gameplay In New Trailer

@samuelvictor You mean like a collectathon Sonic game? That would be kinda interesting. Frontiers actually looks the cloest to that from what we've seen and heard so far. It seems collecting things is a big part of the gameplay loop of this game. But I do agree that the open world looks a bit generic and this is coming from someone who actually likes more realistic Sonic as long as it isn't taken too far (like most of 06. I do like the look of some of the levels tho!). Unleashed and Gens look fantastic imo! Although I guess Gens is only halve more realistic lol

Re: Sonic Frontiers Shows Off Cyber Space And Switch Gameplay In New Trailer

@samuelvictor I think a 3d Sonic that played more like classic Sonic would be really cool. But at the same time Green hill itself has been really overplayed. I wouldn't even mind a clone of Green Hill like Emerald Hill, Angel Island, Palmtree Panic, Seaside Hill, etc. That at least takes some creativity. But using the exact same level so many times just looks like they're ran out of ideas. This is the 3rd mainline game in a row, and the 5th if you count Windy Hill from Lost World as Green Hill. Green Hill from Sonic 1 is one of my favorite Sonic levels ever, but it's gotten overplayed to a ridiciolous extent.

Re: Nintendo Direct Mini To Air Tomorrow, June 28

HammerKirby

@Olliemar28 idk I thought that too earlier in the year, but it feels like some of the games this year have been kind of a disappointment. Mario strikers and Switch Sports are both lacking content. Kirby and the forgotten land is amazing but that's just one game and then Pokemon Legends Arceus was decent but kinda repetitive imo. I also have a feeling Bayo 3 and Mario + Rabbids 2 are going to get delayed.

Re: Miyamoto Wasn't A Fan Of The Art Style In Zelda: Wind Waker

HammerKirby

@Mauzuri that wasn't him. That was the director of Sticker Star. All Miyamoto said to the team was basically that it looked too similar to Thousand Year Door and they should do something different. He also said they should challenge themselves to only use characters created before Mario World which is kinda dumb, but he didn't force them to listen to that lol. All it was was advice. Miyamoto doesn't even have much to with mainline Mario since 64, much less the spin-offs. But yeah most of the poor Sticker Star decisions fall on the director of that game, not Miyamoto.

Re: It Looks Like Sega Is Opening A New Studio In Japan

HammerKirby

I don't get all the hate on these forums for Sega honestly. Other than Sonic Forces and Valkyria Revolution most of their recent games have been at least decent if not great. Not to mention they've started giving some of their ips to indie devs to made fantastic games like Streets of Rage 4.
