All things considered I don't think it's as bad as many make out. Granted I would like some clarity on this VRR on monitors grey area. It sounds worth investing in a monitor maybe.
I think what is happening is, there is clearly widespread whiplash projected at Nintendo because it's the path of least resistance, caused by a broarder sense of instability and insecurity elsewhere in the world. I feel it. And I am far and away not unique.
@PloverNutter I agree with you from a slightly different perspective. When you aren't in first place you try harder. Neccessity is the father of invention and all that.
@BenAV Yeah, the games look phenomenal. You can see the years of development in Mario Kart. Probably overlooked or taken for granted but that open world can't have been easy to design.
Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to get my Switch 2, but...well...could this be the worst console launch ever?
Prices that caught everyone off guard.
Delayed pre-order dates.
Overviews updated with features removed.
Overviews with errors.
Seemingly one sole third party embracing physical media.
No Super Monkey Ball at launch.
Now I am not saying everything is Nintendo's fault here. The global economy is a crap shoot at the moment, but it feels like they could have used more time, but then again, how will the world look next week? Either way, it looks easy to start losing confidence in the hardware (because of the messaging or lack thereof. Different hymn sheets etc.) I mean, the games look amazing!
Maybe Nintendo should have avoided talking specs like they traditionally do (that might touch on losing their identity?). All the fps, vrr, resolution talk is steering conversation away from their games. Edit - I might be actually doing them a disservice there, as their chat doesn't tend to go beyond 'improved frame rate' etc.
Possible contenders
XBox One (legendary fail but in hindsight, pretty much where we are today. Go figure...)
Wii U (Branding failure.)
PS3 (Probably priced worse than the Switch 2!)
3DS (Over priced leading to a price cut / ambassasor programme.)
I'm not going to vote because I don't want that to be a reflection on what I actually think of the game. As Directs go, it was ok. I like them to have more than 1 game haha. As an advert, I think it was a 10. I am more than excited to get my hands on it. It just exudes quality.
Anyone that saw my predictions will probably guess how over the moon I am lol! Platforming to reach places, missions, battle mode and time trial. Yeah. All great! They missed the Popeye memo obviously but I'll let them off. (Although it would be nice to unlock Ballon Kid for Battle mode and other NES characters.)
I don't get the discourse about Nintendo seemingly playing it safe with Switch 2. They don't HAVE to reinvent the wheel here. They are STILL riding the Switch wave it was so good. The upgrades are all welcome. The mouse controls are genius.
@Toastmaster Who is wallowing in third place and trying to stay relevent with a new business strategy?
Honestly, when Nintendo where in 3rd place we got a localisation of Earthbound. Companies try harder in third place. Break glass in case of emergency lol. If Switch 2 flops, we'll probably get Earthbound 3 hahaha!
When is the next XBox Direct? They said they would be putting platforms on their trailers going forward. (Unless Nintendo really do control messaging to that degree!)
It's coming. It will more than likely be a key card (or Limited Run physical) I liked Morrowind (damn, I want a remake!) and Skyrim, but I dunno, I just could never get into Oblivion. One of those games where if it was your first Elder Scrolls game, it likely blew you away. Maybe I should give it another go.
@Liam_Doolan Any chance you guys can at some point do an article about monitors. It sounds like it's time I upgraded to get the most out of the Switch 2, but 4K, 1440p, 120 Hz...I don't know what I'm takling about If a game isn't 4K does it look weird on a 4K TV and viceversa. That sort of thing.
This looks like one of the most intuitive games I have ever seen. I hope it's as inclusive and accessible as it looks. As much as I'm all about the gameplay, it's a shame they haven't given it the Arms treatment and given wheelchair sports enthusiasts something to be proud of. It's just lacking that sense of...I dunno...celebration. Or maybe just a bit more colour would have been nice.
@Liam_Doolan Please someone at Nintendolife do some journalistic snooping and see if there is any scope / plans for Limited Run to release physical versions of key card games. Weren't they invited to Nintendo for some early Switch 2 showing or something?
Interesting results. It's clear I am going to be swayed much more this upcoming gen by whether or not the game is on the cart. As such, I am actually tempted by Hitman and Hogwarts (even though I have never read / watched a Harry Potter book . film!) @Ottoecamn I'll be picking that up. It looked ace and I liked the first one.
@TimelessJubilee Totally. Bunch of snobs that suck the joy out of everything. Really gets my goat folk using them to win 'arguements' that are really just opinions.
Hi! Dave from Digital Floundering here. Fairly conclusively I can say this is NOT a generational leap at all. I mean, look at Mario. He hasn’t aged a day older than Mario Kart 8. Maybe he’s had surgery (like DK) but it’s hard to gauge from our test footage.

We'll see I guess.
Re: Nintendo Confirms Duration For Tomorrow's Mario Kart World Direct
@DwaynesGames The full roster is 50 racers, but when you play for the first time there is only 49...because Princess Peach is missing.

@StewdaMegaManNerd That's why I said him lol. We don't need to say that on a Nintendo fan site

XBox put games on Switch 2, I buy XBox games. It's that simple. Oh, and free Shadowrun!
