Would love it if the game had voice acting. For some people it breaks the immersion, but I find that it enforces it. I would not have enjoyed Xenoblade (or its sequel) as much as I did if it didn't have its excellent voice acting.
Also, why are people so afraid that it would get terrible voice acting? Did Xenoblade, X and Awakening/Fates have terrible voice acting? Zelda has been known for quality, Nintendo would /not/ hire mediocre voice actors, especially for a franchise as big as Zelda.
And yes, Xenoblade and Zelda are very different types of games, but they're both incredibly story driven. However, I do agree that Link himself should never, ever get actual voice acting (except for the grunts he makes).
Anyway, I doubt that's what he meant by the Westernized approach. Probably just referring to the open-world itself.
@AVahne Really, really bad framerate (check out Digital Foundry's videos), but other than that it's a solid port. I'd still recommend the PC version over the Wii U version, but if you can bear the 20-25 fps, then go for it.
This reminds me... I should probably start playing Bayonetta 2. I've had that game in my backlog since the day it came out.
She's really fun to use in Smash, and is quickly becoming one of my most-used characters (though no character will ever come close to replacing my precious Olimar).
I'd be excited for this, but NoA has a rather unique tendency of not having the same VC support as everyone else. Still, I'd love to give it a go again, especially after losing my disc.
My personal Game of the Year is probably Ori and the Blind Forest, with Fallout 4 and MH4U being really close seconds.
From Nintendo themselves however, Splatoon easily deserves best Nintendo game of 2015 imo (and definitely best shooter of 2015). One of the most unique games I've ever played.
I'd love to play X as soon as it releases but... I've only logged 50 hours into Xenoblade and have I never once put such commitment into a game — and I don't think I'm even halfway done yet. I'm taking a (much needed) break from it and trying to clean up my backlog (I haven't even opened my copy of the Nathan Drake Collection D: ) but I'm going to see if I can somehow finish the game during Christmas break, so that I can play X during the following summer.
Love the concept. Not-so-good execution. A Zelda with realistic-ish graphics sounds enticing, but that character model... really doesn't look too good. I think a realistic-looking Zelda title would be great if they kept Link's toonish design, kinda like that Kakariko Village in Unreal 4 we saw earlier. But as it stands, I'll take Twilight Princess HD over a Zelda title with this character model any day of the week, even if the port seems lackluster.
@sandman89 Both the Dualshock 4 and Xbox One controller are priced at $60, which is significantly cheaper than the apparent cost of the Wii U GamePad. The Elite controller is priced at $150 but the controller itself is almost worth the price (from what I've heard, anyway, though it's likely that bias has played a part). Where's the "rip-off?"
@liveswired I'm a PC gamer who plays very regularly at 1920x1080, so I can easily notice the difference between 720p and 1080p. The resolution won't make the game any less enjoyable, but it will be something I will immediately notice and possibly be initially distracted by, as much as I hate to admit it. The same thing happened with Splatoon too, even though I love that game to bits.
Still, I'd much rather the game be at 720p60 than 1080p30, so I can't complain too much
@The_Ninja Funny thing about that. Despite PS4 and Xbox One's vastly superior hardware to the PS3 and Xbox 360, it's incredibly likely that we will see a functional PS4/Xbox One emulator before a PS3 and Xbox 360 emulator given how similar the architecture of the 8th gen consoles are to PC's.
@inverse This site has every right to mention the progress of the elumator, and it is in no way condoning piracy. That's like saying that writing an article on ISIS means you condone terrorism. It's Nintendo news, and whether or not it deals with illegal issues it deserves to be written about.
And besides, reporting on the elumator really won't harm the Wii U in any way. It's already a dead system — an excellent one, but nonetheless lacking all potential to actually sell given its current state. An emulator is inevitable either way, so it's not as if people who were wanting or thinking about owning a Wii U hadn't already thought about the possibility of it. There's no real issue with this article.
Gay male here. This is bull. If Nintendo wants to get rid of their "kiddy" image and be viewed maturely by competitors they really need to stop the censoring. This game's rated T for Teen for a reason; disallowing breast-size-changing really isn't going to make a difference, aside from an increase of people not being able to take Nintendo seriously.
THIS is what TP HD should've looked like, or at least something to that extent. Unless this is priced $30 or less, I see no reason to buy the HD remaster.
But hey, I'm a hippocrite, and a Nintendo fanboy, so I'm probably going to preorder this anyway. Sigh.
Loved what little I've played of the game — then my save files for every 3DS game I downloaded digitally (including Puzzles and Dragons) got corrupted and I haven't touched it since. Still, this is pretty cool, especially considering that the game isn't popular at all.
I'd pay a ton of cash to be able to play a Zelda game with these graphics. Although I admit for some reason this video does seem a little odd — the camera angle maybe?
Loved Monster Hunter 3U. Tried to get into 4U but couldn't (not because it's a bad game, which it isn't, but because I seriously don't have the time). Might be picking this up, that open-world (I think it's open-world?) looks gorgeous, much more so than any MH game we've had before.
I dunno if I'd want to see Ocarina with these graphics but I'd sure as hell throw money at Nintendo's HQ if I got to see Twilight Princess with them. That game seriously needs an HD remake — it's not that old, but man has it aged terribly.
You can change the hand to cat paws but not to dog paws? 0/10 worst game ever only casual fanboys can like it everyone boycott this game!!!!111one
To be honest, not 100% sure if I'm getting this game or not. I'd love to, but I've a gigantic backlog (including Bayonetta 2 and the original Xenoblade) plus several games I'm looking forward to this holiday season (Xenoblade X, Nathan Drake Collection, Fallout 4, etc.) that I'm not sure I'll even have time to play it. Definitely getting that SMM amiibo though
I would have embraced this update 2 years ago before I got my iPad for school. Now? I mean, it's an appreciated offer, but I think using a tablet (or Smart TV) is much more convenient.
I'd get each and every single one, but I'm unfortunate enough to live in a country where each amiibo sells for $20. Ah well, I'll definitely get SMM and Olimar (and either Bowser Jr. or Ganondorf depending on which one is actually in stock by the time I get to the store). I'm only interested in the retro pack because of Duck Hunt, but given how the Splatoon triple pack cost ($50) I dunno what to do tbh. Damn, that's already over $100... Sigh.
I've been playing the original on Dolphin (I own the game physically on both Wii and New 3DS already but it's a lot more convenient on an emulator, especially since my PC and Wii U are connected to the same monitor), but I'll definitely buy it again for the third time if it comes to the North American eShop.
Speaking of Wii games on the NA eShop, what's up with that? The only game we got since the original launch was Kirby, and we got that much later than Europe did.
@Salnax The game's okay on the Wii U... but just okay. There's some seriously bad framerate drops in it (sometimes it goes down to 18 frames per second in Havana. 18 frames!), the minimap interestingly lags, and there's no DLC.
Also there IS off-tv play, if you're really into it. And everything else is still the same as the other ports. Still, I wouldn't recommend it at $15. You can get it for $20-ish on next-gen consoles on Amazon, $30 digitally. (and I believe Black Flag is free on Xbox Live Gold atm).
It's a great game... it's just that the Wii U version isn't.
I played the PS4 port, and personally, I really disliked the game. The graphics are actually really good, and the characters were interesting, but the controls were clunky and awful, the pacing was just terrible, and there are far too many bugs to make this an enjoyable experience. If it were up to me to give it a score, I'd say that 6/10 is pretty generous, maybe more along the lines of 4/10.
However, it definitely does have some charm to it, and before playing it, my expectations were pretty freaking high. One man's trash is another man's treasure; I see so many reviewers scoring this game 8/10, or even 10/10, so I'm probably in the minority thinking that this game wasn't as good as they say (and who knows, maybe they fixed some of those things in the Wii U version). Either way, I'd wait for a sale before buying this game.
I personally prefer the original name, but can see why they would call it "Super Mario Maker" instead. Either way, I'll probably pre-order this digitally whenever I get the chance. I don't see myself buying this physically.
I kinda wish you could transfer save files with Xenoblade Chronicles and the 3DS port. Would have made be regret my purchase of the 3DS game a little less
This would be beyond stupid... and yet, we're talking about Ubisoft here so who knows really. The name wouldn't really be a problem, just call it "Zombi" and pretend it's a Zombi remake (given that is what ZombiU essentially is, a remake/successor to one of Ubisoft's first games Zombi), but seeing how low review scores were given to what would be the definitive version of the game (as the game would have to be dumbed down to allow PS4 / Xbox One controls) I honestly doubt it would sell.
If we're going to go by what Tantalus said, Ubisoft has their own team for porting games. They don't need a third party developer to do it for them.
As for the Wii U game being ported towards next-gen systems, I guess it would have to be Funky Barn despite its poor reviews, unless Ubisoft REALLY wants Tantalus to port their game.
This is... interesting. Also somewhat brave of them — it'll be difficult to revive whatever hype the two previous Sonic Boom games had before people realized that they were broken.
Unless this gets really good reviews, I probably won't bother.
@Einherjar Read the article again. It's 100 million, not 100k.
And besides, you gotta consider that 1) it's a free to play game, meaning that some people can and will buy micro-transactions (given the number of downloads) thus profit, and 2) the game does indeed have ads. It's unknown how much money Sega has truly made with Sonic Dash, though it's impossible that they made zero profit.
"...or fancy pulling a Titanic and need some 'artistic privacy'..."
Seriously though, I'm genuinely pumped for this. I already pre-purchased it on the eShop ever since it was announced. SketchPad was fun, so I can't wait to see what a full-fledged Art Academy game has in store (as I haven't played any other AA game...app?)
@aaronsullivan Exclusive amiibo costumes/cosmetic changes, perhaps? I dunno about you, but I'd love to be able to play Splatoon wearing a Samus or Pit costume.
I managed to get all three of them, though I ended up having to pay $50 for the triple pack because of South America making U.S. products more expensive (even regular amiibo here cost $20 each).

The 720p is admittedly disappointing, but understable given that the game's graphical fidelity is more than impressive, especially for the Wii U.
