@Fartsniffer69 What? DF repeatedly criticizes Unreal Engine and regularly express disappointment in the sheer number of games that use UE. What are you even talking about?
@pikachupikachup I own an 8k2k 240Hz monitor and a 4k120Hz TV and the difference between 1080 and 4k is extremely obvious and the difference between 120fps and 240fps is very noticeable.
The reason why what you are saying is nonsense is because frame rates and resolution don't exist in a vacuum. A 60fps game on a console on a TV with a controller is infinitely more acceptable than 60fps on a PC with mouse and keyboard. 30fps on a Switch screen is more acceptable than 30fps on a 4k TV. A stylized and high contrast game like Luigi's Mansion 3 is more acceptable at 1080p than a photorealistic PS5 game that uses TAA.
Games can also rely on the output render resolution to determine the quality of secondary and tertiary effects like motion blur and depth of field. A post processed fog effect running at 1/4x resolution will still look very good when running at 1/4 of 4k but look horrible running at 1/4 of 1080p.
What I'm trying to say here is that even proposing a debate of "frame rate vs resolution" is somewhat archaic. There are situations where higher frame rate is preferable and situations where higher resolution is preferable. To put any kind of blanket statement like that is ignorant, especially when those statements are subjective opinions.
Guys — this isn't an issue with mishandling the Switch. The guy played his Switch in docked mode almost exclusively.
I advise everyone to get a straight edge or ruler and place it on top of their Switches facing down, and tell me that the back of your Switch is 100% straight with no warping at all. I know my Switch has the tiniest bit of warp, buts its definitely there. It likely won't damage the system in the long run but it's something to be weary about.
The article in question uses EuroGamer's info, and the Facebook post has been deleted. Whoever runs ARM's social media probably knows little more than you or I. This doesn't prove anything.
@Dudikowski Possible spoilers, but a leaked map of the game seemed to indicate the game will have 5 main dungeons. I'm assuming though that each of these dungeons will be much, much larger than any dungeon we've ever seen in the Zelda series.
@jimi Jesus Christ, you just cannot shut up about the Switch being inferior to the Wii U in every single chance you get. You couldn't use touch controls on the Wii U version anyway if you were playing with anything but the Wii U GamePad. Doesnt that make the Wii U version inferior because you can only use touch controls with one specific control scheme, just like the Nintendo Switch version?
@joealejos Trust me, aliasing can be VERY noticeable and distracting, especially when there's hundreds of blades of grass on screen at once a la Breath of the Wild.
@SeriousSam It's not very difficult to make a machine that's 2.5 times as powerful as a Wii U. You're also forgetting that optimizing for the Switch will be infinitely easier than optimizing for the Wii U, so even if the Switch's portable mode matches the Wii U in terms of power, it'll be much easier to port for the Wii U, and will be much, much cheaper to do so. The unforeseen technical issues are probably related to the Wii U's architecture and incompetence to optimize for it (and you can't really blame them for their incompetence if the only two companies who were able to optimize well for the Wii U so far — Nintendo and Shin'en — made games that were Wii U exclusive, and it's much easier to optimize for a single system than for 3+PC)
I get why people are disappointed about the cancellation of the Wii U version, but really, when this game's comes out this April, do you really think this game will sell well, at all, on Wii U? Will you guys even be buying Wii U games anymore when this game comes out? This game is almost definitely going to come to the Switch either way; I wonder how many people who are disappointed with the Wii U version's cancellation would have gotten it for the Switch anyway. Playtonic's an indie company, and losing money by supporting a dead platform is certainly not in their best interest.
Even though this game is not yet 100℅ confirmed for the Switch, it's incredibly likely it will come to it since Playtonic needs to compensate for the cancellation of the Wii U version. I still think it's worth covering news about them.
Not really familiar with the other games, but holy crap I would've never imagined Arkham Asylum of all games to be running on the Wii. Looks and plays surprisingly similar to the original, given the Wii's graphical prowess. Controls look like a pain though — maybe that's why it was canned.
LMAO at the saltiness people have over Pachter. He originally said the Wii U would sell about 20 million units and people were absolutely raging at him for being so pessimistic. He's been right before.
Anyway, this isn't him speculating. He's just reporting what he's heard, so whether or not you believe this statement ultimately comes down to the reliability of his sources and NOT his ability to predict.
Back on topic, this would be a very good thing for Nintendo. Even if it's hardware is subpar, it should be able to handle most triple A games with some downgrades with no headaches. Makes developers a lot more keen to develop for it.
Okay, it's not the end of the world, of course. This IS Nvidia tech after all, which has been proven again and again to be more optimized than AMD tech. CPU is constant meaning that the Switch's framerate probably won't vary too much between docked and undocked, which is great. The 60 percent decrease in GPU power won't matter too much when the number of pixels the game is running is cut in half — really, only a few bells and whistles needs to be removed.
But... Maxwell?? X1!? Really?!
Best case scenario, these reports are based on the first dev kits that were sent out and not the revised ones (it's rumored that the developers were sent two dev kits, the first having an X1 chip with only 3 hours of battery life).
Fallout 4's probably one of my favorite games from last year (73 hours into it - still haven't finished the main story!), and I've heard it's awful compared to the previous two games. The game's got some real charm to it.
Ehhh, I think having Maxwell instead of Pascal would be a mistake, especially in a portable device where power consumption shoule be minimal. Hopefully this report's inaccurate.
11pm on a school night, but I think I'm willing to sacrifice some sleep. Given the Switch reveal's time I would have thought this would air earlier. Glad I can still watch it live!
Currently trying to finish Rise of the Tomb Raider — not exactly Halloweenish. Might play the Outlast 2 demo to relieve my Halloweeny urges, but I am going to be spending most of my day with friends anyway so I dunno if I'll have time for that. We'll see
Hah, this happened to me about a year ago (with both my Wii U and my 3DS coincidentally, which at the time I wasn't too cautioned with the idea that something like his could happen). Haven't even touched over half my games since due to frustration of having to restart everything from the beginning. I feel you
@Anti-Matter Mature games are generally much more technically demanding than Everyone games (as they tend to have a much more realistic art style meaning that sharper textures, realistic physics, a ton more polygons, etc. needs to be rendered), so it would make sense to show off more Mature titles in order to have a better sense of the Chip's technical power.
Haven't been to a single splatfest yet as literally every single time there's been one I've either completely forgotten or really could not join due to real life getting in the way, and the same is happening this time (not even anywhere near my Wii U this Friday). I literally have no idea what goes on during Splatfests or what they even are. Shame I have to miss this last one, and even more shame how Nintendo ended support for them only a year after Splatoon launched.
The stock situation is much better, except Toon Link is still going for $40 at Amazon and that infuriates me to no end. Really wish I grabbed him when I had the chance.
Hoping for a locked 30fps at 1080p at least on NX, though 1080p60 should really, really be the standard for all Nintendo games post NX, save for future Zelda titles.
Zelda U isn't very technically impressive imo (NX can probably fix that), but the artstyle and atmosphere is definitely keeping my interest. Sony still won I think, but Zelda by itself was way, way, way more impressive than anything that EA, Bethesda, or Ubisoft had to show.
Also, bonus points for that Wolf Link functionality. Nintendo finally implemented amiibo right in that regard, and it looks really cool.
Really like what I've seen so far, though the image quality worries me to an extent. Lighting and artstyle are phenomenal though, and the music sounds excellent. Seems to be more like Elder Scrolls than typical TLoZ which is a welcome change.
Ah, and just yesterday I gave Humble Bundle $10 and registered for the 3DS version of the game. I hope this doesn't taint anything between Humble Bundle and Nintendo.
@xPH03N1Xx86 You can find plenty of apk files that can be used to install Miitomo by Googling "Miitomo apk" (I won't link any website due to community rules, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find), and it will indeed have full functionality (the only problem is that I've yet to find a way to update an app installed via an apk file that isn't a pain, but it's definitely doable). To install it, however, you're going to need to make some changes to your Android.
@sandman89 You're probably just not paying too much attention to the framerate. Only games that were designed to take advantage of the New 3DS's CPU get a performance boost, hence, DKCR shouldn't be getting an increase in FPS (I haven't played too much DKCR on my New 3DS but from what little I've played, it seems to run identically to when I played it on my original 3DS).
The game doesn't have very many framerate drops either way — what people were complaining about the most was that it was 30fps instead of 60fps like in the Wii version.
@Splatburst That's actually my main gripe, that the current Wii U version is far too expensive for what it's worth. I actually really don't mind that the 3DS version has all the dlc and that it's cheaper (as it should be, due to that it's a portable), but the Wii U base game needs a price drop to $40 at the very least.
@Splatburst It's not a difference between $40 and $60, it's between $40 and $80, if you want to get a comparable amount of content. And prices of current gen games drop all the time. Watch_Dogs is sitting at $20. Any Assassin's Creed game after about a year costs $20. Even the recently released Nathan Drake Collection is sitting at $30. Hyrule Warriors is more than a year old at this point, the Wii U version desperately needs a price drop, especially with what the 3DS version comes with.
@BensonUii The difference is that the original version of Twilight Princess right now costs $20 — the definitive edition costs more than that, and rightfully so. However, Hyrule Warriors on the Wii U eShop right now costs $60 without the season pass, and $80 with it. The (arguably) superior 3DS version, that includes the season pass and even more content costs $40, half of the Wii U price.
The problem is that the Wii U version STILL costs $60 without the season pass, and the fact that they're charging $40 for a version with a ton more content is kinda unacceptable.
@Splatburst By the time the 3DS game releases, I will have spent $140 on two versions of the same game, when I could have easily just spent $55 and get the full package. I originally didn't mind the Legends version as I assumed that the game would only have all DLC characters, not necessarily the entire season pass (along with extra content to boot). Legends for $40 has more content than the Wii U version plus the season pass for $80. Legends is a downgraded port, yes, but as every Nintendo fanboy argues, "Graphics don't matter".
Correct me if I'm misinformed about the 3DS version of the game, but from what I understand, I might as well not have bought the Wii U version at all if I'm getting even more content for cheaper price in the 3DS release. How is that not a rip-off?
So $60 for the 3DS game plus the combined season pass. I have to admit, the Wii U side of the season pass is a little lacking, and after spending $80 on the Wii U version, I'm feeling sliiiiiiightly ripped off. Ah well, I'm going to buy this game anyway; anything Zelda is an instabuy for me.
@Whopper744 I'm going to buy both (already have the Wii U version) mainly so I can play the Wii U version at home and the 3DS version when I'm... not home (also so that I don't have to buy the Characters Legends Pack for the Wii U version separately)
Wasn't there a Wii U CPU shortage that was causing the decline of its sales? I can't imagine why else the Wii U's sales would drop so significantly unless Nintendo is intentionally limiting its production.
@JustJulyo Why would it qualify as a standard Mario game? There's no "Princess is kidnapped by Bowser again" story, there is no world map, no star coins/green stars/etc., no new powerups (costumes, albeit really really cool, don't count). It's just a game where you can create Mario levels — it is not a new entry in the standard Super Mario series.
Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi, and... Puzzles & Dragons. Probably would have picked Mario Maker if I had played it instead, but I remember having a ton of fun with P&D.

Re: Poll: Which Is The Best Mario Spin-Off Series or Game?
Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi, and... Puzzles & Dragons. Probably would have picked Mario Maker if I had played it instead, but I remember having a ton of fun with P&D.
