Re: Talking Point: Wii U Gamers Have Been Treated Poorly By The Third-Party Retail Scene, But The System Still Brings Joy

Genesaur

@TheLastLugia The sad thing is that it sort of is. I mean, not all of us, and of course there are other factors like poor hardware sales due to the general public not caring about the Wii U's existence. But there are plenty of Nintendo fans who are at least partially at fault - the guys who only buy Nintendo games on Nintendo systems, flat-out ignoring anything that isn't a system exclusive, absolutely share some of the blame.

Re: Talking Point: Wii U Gamers Have Been Treated Poorly By The Third-Party Retail Scene, But The System Still Brings Joy

Genesaur

I was personally very happy with Ass Creed IV. Maybe we got no DLC, but there's so much in the base game that I never even noticed until someone mentioned it on here.

I remember you guys mentioning some technical hiccups that I also never noticed or took any issue with.

I got as many third-party titles as I could/wanted. Ninja Gaiden 3 goes in the camp with Bayonetta 2 and its ilk, and Tekken Tag 2 was a lot of fun and even got its own official stick that other Nintendo Lifers have told me is fantastic. And there's also Arkham City; that one turned out really well, in my opinion, with included DLC and GamePad-specific features that were well integrated.

I didn't know that the Deus Ex port was so good. Need to pick that up, sometime.

Re: Weirdness: Here's What An All-Human Star Fox Team Looks Like

@NintendoFan64 You must be new to cosplay. Gender swaps happen all the time. Femlinks and dudes in Peach dresses... nothing unusual here.

My favourite example was a very convincing Leon Belmont female cosplay. Embrace unity and equality, my friend.

@Tsuchinoko Ooh, I forgot about the Fire Emblem concert. I wanna listen to that; sure hope they release an album of it, though it probably wouldn't see a Western release, sadly.

I agree that this isn't really news, but at least it beats everything on their cosplay highlights article.

Re: Players Reached Splatoon's Level Cap So Fast That Nintendo Worried About Their General Well-Being

Genesaur

Ha! But wait, reaching the level cap doesn't mean you have less to do. Quite the contrary, really; it gives you access to more gear to try out and unlock skills, and it pits you against (theoretically) some of the toughest competition. It doesn't even slightly limit the game's scope. Given the thriving online multiplayer, at no point would I think I've nothing left to do, just because I've reached what is presently Maximum Freshness.

Re: Donkey Kong Nearly Missed Out On Pixels Stardom

Genesaur

No property is treated with respect by being in this turd pile.

That said, I fully understand Nintendo agreeing to have him in the film. This movie is probably going to be very popular, at least partially driven on by the controversy that inevitably arises from people defending against all negative viewpoints.

Re: Gallery: Nintendo Cosplay July Round-Up

Genesaur

Second on the poll idea. For this set, if not for the Fire Emblem-esque interpretation of Umbreon, my response would be a resounding "meh." These were mostly underwhelming, but good on them for trying at all.

Re: Nintendo Wins Patent Case Against Handhelds

Genesaur

"Hey, they stole our technology!"

Really? What'd you invent?

"A, um, sorta rectangular device with a screen and some buttons... that you operate using your... hands."

Uh-huh. Case dismissed. Please stop wasting our time.

Re: Exclusive: Project CARS "Simply Too Much For Wii U", Developer Now Waiting On New Nintendo Hardware

Genesaur

@MikeW Speak for yourself, buddy. I would have bought it, under the original promise. In my opinion, you're part of the problem.

And I don't mean that in like a pompous, I'm-a-better-Nintendo-fan-than-you kind of crap. You buy whatever games you want, as anyone will. It just saddens me that so few Nintendo gamers have zero interest in anything not made by/exclusive to Nintendo. I figure it's because you have multiple consoles or at least a proper PC, so good for you. Just sucks for us.

Re: Devil's Third is Being Published by Nintendo of America in Q4, Also Coming to PC as 'Free-to-Start' Title

Genesaur

@DiscoGentleman Aye, only speculation, but it's getting harder to come up with any other explanation. Your assessment makes the most sense, so far.

Hopefully, the full Wii U game won't have broken online, or anything. To echo several others, it'd be rad to have cross-platform play, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

@ultraraichu "What next the final version of the game is actually good?" Man, I sure hope so. Anything less, and this will really have been a waste of time.

Re: Don't Worry, Samus Will Be In Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Genesaur

The more I think about it, the more I realise that this game will likely be the exact opposite of Other M.

That is to say, Other M was hotly anticipated, due to its flashy trailers that truly made us all think that we were in for a treat. That game turned out to be an utter atrocity (mindless defenders notwithstanding).

Now, here we are looking at excessive fanboy backlash for Federation Force being a spin-off game (and I'll admit that I'd prefer a mainline Metroid title, as well) with a chunky aesthetic and not outright starring Samus. And watch it end up super highly rated due to Next Level Games' expertise in crafting experiences with finely tuned, focused mechanics. I'll betcha betcha.

Whatever the result, I personally trust Next Level, ever since Punch-Out!! on the Wii. Fantastic game, that, and since my initial reaction to Blasted Blue Balls has more or less subsided, I'll give the developer the benefit of the doubt. We'll see whose expectations hold up, in the end.

Re: Razer "Definitely Considering" Making Controllers For Wii U

Genesaur

@SPLAofTOON I was gonna mention the Tekken Tag 2 Wii U stick. I never did get my hands on that one, though I know that it functioned like the Tatsunoko stick, i.e. as a Classic Controller.

I'd love to have one that is recognised by the system as a Pro Controller, but I'm well aware that if these guys do make a Wuu peripheral, it'll most likely be fashioned after the GameCube's. That's not a bad thing, but as a fighting game fan, I sure wish that more such games and sticks would come our way.

@tobbonni I've actually come to prefer the Pro Controller over GCN for Smash. This is partially because I don't own the necessary adapter, but also because the 3DS version kinda prepped me for that button layout in the game. Also, I really don't have all that much trouble adjusting to new control schemes, in general.

Re: Negative Reception For Devil's Third Is Due To Poor Player Skill, Claims Tomonobu Itagaki

Genesaur

@ULTRA-64 Exactly! Don't feed the troll, you guys. Itagaki sounds like a brat with that statement; don't drop to the same level. It only fuels the mindless defenders.

I, meanwhile, will remain firmly on the fence until my butt starts hurting, or I get the chance to play it myself.

This all just seems so odd, because word was that Nintendo was super involved with Bayonetta 2, helping the game reach its full potential with pointers and such. And considering that they produced Ninja Gaiden 3, they're no strangers to chaotic, super-difficult action game design.

Something seems off that the big N is acting considerably less involved with this one, not to mention (I know that I'm a broken record with this point) the disconnect between regions. Europe and Japan seem to have no issues that anyone has mentioned, but NoA seems really cautious about releasing the game. As Nintendo is typically very unified in their approach to releasing only finished products, I really wonder what's going on inside this whole debacle.

Re: Negative Reception For Devil's Third Is Due To Poor Player Skill, Claims Tomonobu Itagaki

Genesaur

Oh, jeez. Here we go. The onslaught of comments has barely begun, methinks.

"Not the terrible, outdated game design, atrocious frame-rate, PS2-level visuals or dull, uninspiring boss battles..." Really, guys? You're getting all grumpy because Itagaki talks from an elitist point of view, something he has done throughout his entire career? I mean, I agree that his remarks were unnecessary, but don't go exaggerating your complaints, just because you're a little butthurt over some famous guy's remarks about player skill.

I feel the need to echo the comment above me, though perhaps with a little less hyperbole: that's not the mark of credible journalism.

I agree, though, that the man has never taken criticism well, and it's entirely possible that this attitude causes him to ignore actual, potential problems with his game. Even so, the point about your reaction to his statement stands firm.

@Einherjar As usual, I think that you've got the right idea.
