Re: Fire Emblem Fates Removes 'Petting' Feature in Western Localisation

FriedSquid

Hey at least NoA is actually trying to make this a Fire Emblem game, instead of Waifu Simulator.

Anyway, NL ought to just put up a big ol' poll whenever this type of thing comes up. You either vote that you like the changes or you don't like them. And everyone would feel a lot better than whining about this or that vs. somebody else on the Internet.

Re: Sega Has Some "Interesting" Sonic News For Us Next Month

FriedSquid

@mjc0961 Yeah, I understand the logic, but there's just no way Sega would even touch any of their other franchises, nonetheless for Sonic's anniversary of all times. Seems like a silly request if you ask me.

That being said unfortunately it's telling when people don't even want a Sonic game for Sonic's own anniversary. lol

Re: Feature: A Pokémon Retrospective: Generation 5 - 2010 to 2013

@ASonic3582 Well if that's the case I personally think that's a lame reason to make them. That to me just seems too easy, to give you an advantage no matter your starter. And in any case, that's a problem with most generations — they really should have the first Gym be a type that has no strengths or weaknesses to any of the starters in the first place.

Plus, those monkeys just look boring to me... I don't think I would mind so much if they made each one more different than the other, or maybe even made them different animals. I mean, imagine if every Gen 1 starter looked just like Charizard, only one was blue and another was green. I don't mind the trash or Ice cream mons, I think a lot of Gen 5 Pokemon just had lazy designs.

Sorry, rant over.

Probably my least favorite gen. The designs weren't as bad as people made them out to be, however I think they just tried to hard to make them similar to Gen 1 Pokes.

And for the record, I actually like the Vanillite family a lot, I don't what people's problems with an ice cream Pokemon are. I think the real worst offenders from the gen are the monkeys, who were only created for the triple battle gimmick, Gothitelle, Terrakion, Cobalion, the kami trio, Samurott, Accelgor, etc... Just a lot of garbled, bland designs imo. It does have my favorites though, like Braviary, Joltik, Zekrom, Chandelier, etc.

Designs aren't my biggest complaint though, as just looking back on this gen I can't remember having a lot of fun with it or anything that I really enjoyed. It was an exciting game at the time, we had new animations and triple/rotation battles, but something about B/W just felt bland, almost as if it didn't live up to the expectations for me personally.

However, I still haven't played B2/W2!

Re: Review: Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon (3DS)

All I can say as another person with no experience with the Mystery Dungeon series but wants to try this game, it wasn't a very good idea to write the review from a newbie's perspective. How do I know that the complaints listed are usually there throughout the series? Is this the best PMD game to try first or is it the worst? Sorry but this review doesn't make any sense.

Re: Rumour: A Class in Bravely Second is Supposedly Being Censored for the Western Release

@Yorumi I think it is different. The later things you mentioned, "typical American, German, Russian" are all national. They have their own culture, but it's still, to a degree, something people can choose to identify with, unlike race. I'm not totally informed on this, but yes there are different tribes and cultures, but I think the whole point of where the dissatisfaction comes from the native communities, is that it seems the majority of people only know about native culture to be these stereotypes. The feathered headress, for example among others, is what all of those cultures have been reduced to. And so, people put on a headress for a costume and call themselves "Indians". I think all that's wanted is respect and understanding of what's being worn, as it's usually horribly misinformed and devolved to a caricature.

Now of course I'm not trying to speak for natives, that's up to them to decide if the game was being disrespectful. I'm sure SE had good intentions, but I think simply naming it Axe Warrior or something instead of Tomahawk, would have been much better. Besides, it's just a localization, and a rumor at that, not something to fuss about — but if it's true switching to a cowboy was definitely not a much better choice.

@XCWarrior I almost can't tell if you're being serious or not. I mean do people here not understand the differences between racial stereotypes (like American natives) and cultural stereotypes (cowboys, gamers, emo, as in your examples)? Do you realize the difference between things you choose to identify with and things you were born as, such as race? But wait lemme guess, you "don't see color".

Re: Review: Yo-Kai Watch (3DS)

FriedSquid

I'm curious if I'm the only one who was really impressed with the 3D effect from the demo? — rarely do they get 2D animation to pop out so well in 3D.

Anyways, this was an enjoyable game, however I'm not sure I could see myself putting a whole lot of time into it as I would Omega Ruby. Maybe one day I could pick it up though, or maybe we'll get the sequel that could be even better?

Re: Feature: A Pokémon Retrospective: Generation 3 - 2002 to 2006

FriedSquid

This Gen was probably the height of my Pokémon obsession as a kid. I'm pretty sure I started with Gen 1 at a young age but I spent the most time with Gold — so long in fact that I didn't even realize new Pokémon games were out! I remember playing Pokémon Channel and being in awe at 'mon like Blaziken and Latios that I had never seen before. Eventually I got all three games, as well as FireRed, and played them a whole lot. I played a lot of spinoffs like Coliseum and Gale of Darkness too, good memories there — they don't seem to make spinoffs the way they used to. Also at the time I was really into the anime and movies, watching new episodes almost everyday, though once the D/P anime aired I lost interest in the show.

Anyways, lots of love for the 3rd Gen! This one is a favorite for nostalgia, though in those terms Gen 1 probably beats it and Gen 4 comes soon after 3. Lot of my favorite 'mon in there too, like Duskull, Sceptile, Deoxys and more. Omega Ruby is also one of my favorite Pokemon games now, I love what they did with those but I guess not everyone agrees.
