Splatoon keeps on adding content, sometimes through major updates but often with new weapons, with the additions becoming part of many Wii U owner's weekly routines. The next new gun has now been confirmed, and it looks pretty cool.
Arriving late evening on 20th November in North America and in the early hours of the morning (21st November) in Europe, the Hydra Splatling is a nice metallic addition. Nintendo of Europe has shared some pretty images for us all to gawk at.

Are you still hopping onto Splatoon every weekend to try out the new weapons?

Game is still too expensive.
I still play Splatoon regularly on the weekends, and I've had it since launch. Splatoon was definetly worth the money.
Hail Hydra.
@ikki5 You can't be serious "Game is still too expensive" I don't care what region you're in, with all the free DLC, including weapons, maps, and outfits, it's too expensive. That's right developers should take the risk and make new IP just to sell it for what 39.99, 49.99, or just free? Nah seriously how much is it where you're at?
I play every day. To me, this is the game of the year. I just need a more powerful dual squelcher!!!
@ikki5 You clearly haven't checked much places as some stores had some sales for the game back in August, there was also a discount for the eshop version a few weeks ago if you tried out the Test Fire. You can even find much cheaper prices on Ebay even when you take into consideration of shipping and exchange rates. Even then, the game is worth the full price, this is coming from someone who lives in Canada and bought both the Inkling Boy amiibo and Triple Pack.
@ikki5 If I work out cost per hour then Splatoon is the cheapest Wii U game I own.
Goodbye moderation!
@ikki5 You are a really big baby lmao
Man this game is so awesome always adding new stuff! Keeping me addicted!
Stupid question - did we get the 2 new maps yet? The museum and the spinning blades?
I've been busy and haven't been on in awhile, sorry. I also haven't purchased a new weapon since forever, I decided I needed to reach 1 million (what is the in game currency anyway?) before buying the splating. Now I'm glad I waited b/c this things looks awesome. I don't even care if it's useless in ranked, I'll just buy it and keep playing in turf wars.
@ikki5 If you buy a Wii U for $279 BF it's included along w/ SSBU. That's pretty good. Also on sale at Walmart for $25 if you feel like dealing w/ BF stuff. Personally I hate being told when I need to shop and like to do so at my own leisure and wish Nintedo would l have just announced the Smash Spalt bundle at $279 and been done w it. Any single game console bundle still on the market - MK8 or SMM should then be $249. Making either SSBU or Spaltoon $30, and each is worth that. Splatoon was not worth $60 at launch I agree wholeheartedly w/ you there. For $30 or less there's no complaining. Especially when DL only titles like Affordable Space Adventures and Swords and Soldiers 2 are going for $20. And both PS4 and X1 require $50 yearly fees for online play. And despite the lack of voice chat the online is still free and very much the majority of the game.
Did anyone do a data mine of the newest update? Did the underwater map come with the museum map? What else was released in that update?
@rjejr We did get Mesuem D'Alfonsino, not sure if we got the hotel map tho. Also dont try to reason with Mr ikki, he's salt because Europe had the game released at a lower price .
@rjejr
Same here, good excuse to come back to it. Between Second Son and my unreliable internet connection I have been away for quite a while now.
@Zombo "he's salt because Europe had the game released at a lower price ."
Well, nobody was saltier than I was at the incomplete game launching at $40 in the EU and Japan but $60 in the US. But Nintendo came thru in August w/ the update, and both rainmaker and tower control modes have been added, and playing w/ friends, and the monthly Splatfests have been fun, so things change. And w/ the holiday sales it's a great game for $25 or $30. So I just catching up a fellow disgruntled gamer.
@sinalefa My life has been so sporadic of late. Bar mitzvah, Met's playoff run, sick for a week, my sons away w/ school for a few days, going away for Thanksgiving, and all the holiday shopping for Hanukkah and Christmas. And my PC stopped working I HATE when my PC stops working and I can't fix it, it's one of the few things I'm normally good at. Spent $60 on a new motherboard and had to return 2 to Amazon. Installed a new video-card yesterday and the thing is SO LOUD. Been playing Yoshi, Swords and Soldiers 2 and Disney Infinity 3.0 Rise of the Empire w/ my wife. And it's fall so our tv shows started back up - we only watch 2 Flash and Arrow. And we started watching Dr. Who w/ my son, halfway thru season 2 of the newer ones. Splatoon hasn't been touched since the last Splatfest. No time.
OK, gotta go now, several errands to run. Oh and my youngest joined a basketball team and that starts tonight. Life trumps videogames.
Any stats on this monster? it looks like it may have longer range than the heavy splatling, but probably slower charge.
Still have my fingers crossed for playable Octolings someday. Will check this weapon out later today though.
I hope they release more ancient weapons, like the bamboozler. I was thinking a bow with mini burst bomb explosive arrow tips, like Rambo. It would be a new class of weapon that would allow you to adjust the range and show the trajectory like a bomb toss. The longer you hold the button, the farther out your trajectory moves.
It would be a bit sluggish like a charger or splatling, but would have the advantage of arcing arrows over walls and come equipped with a disruptor sub and killer wail special to help you retreat...damn, I guess I play this game a little too much.
@Blastcorp64 nice idea!
Yea, this is exactly what I was expecting from a "hydra" weapon. Kinda reminds me of Tri Slosher (one of my favourite weapons).
Looks awesome!
Im from Uruguay, had my system in spanish but spanish names suck really bad, Callie and Marie are Mar and Tina (mar =Sea in spanish and Tina= ??) pun totally lost and the same goes for map names and gear/weapons, but this one is so epic that Im switching to English hehehe
This weekend seems like a fine time to finally get back into Splatoon.
@chardir Same here. $60 is a fine price for a game I had logged 100 hours on BEFORE the August update.
@FreakFerrett "Martini," perhaps?
@Dr_Corndog Hahaha funny but still has nothing to do with the games theme, thats what bothers me, the spanish localisation team sucks for all nintendo games, not just this one...
@Blastcorp64 stats are in the link, it also has spoilers for future weapons >>>> https://nwplayer123.github.io/Splatoon/Upcoming/
Its not quite up to date.
@rjejr
Ok, so you relented and got Swords and Soldiers 2? Really eager to hear that story, as you either never told us or I missed it. So I can see you getting the PS4 before U4 now.
My PC has been parked for a year now. It broke down twice in around a 9 months period so I got pissed off and lived off my cell phone and work PC for internet browsing. Had to borrow my bro's PC to get the PS4 update that allowed the thing to use the fan and not overheat anymore.
Finally, let me know how the Luke/Leia playset is. I have Han and Chewie, not sure if they can be used there or if it is worth to get the playset?
@RupeeClock Hahaha I almost choked on my lunch reading this.
@Patapon11x Thanks! I'm surprised it's range is as long as the jet squelcher. That'll be nice, although, somewhat expected, it has the mobility of a tank.
@ikki5: No it's not. You just haven't played it (enough) to figure that out. ^^ I only payed 37€ but I would've happily paid double or more. This game is really a bargain regarding the huge amount of content and the even huger amount of fun it generates.
But I don't get your point: Either you want it or you don't want it. Which is it? If you don't want to buy and play the game, why post here? If you want to buy it, why haven't you yet?
@beingvasey: Haha, I totally hear you.
@abbyhitter @rjejr The Museum got released a week ago, the other map not yet.
@Patapon11x: Thanks for that link! The stats were the first thing I wondered about.
Gosh, I haven't played Splatoon in weeks! I ought to get back to it, but Mario Maker's keeping me so busy!
I really need to start playing Splatoon again. Smash Bros. and school have taken over my life!!
@shani Splatoon should've only been $60 if bundled with all 3 inkling amiibo. The game on its own is worth $25 or $30.
Cut off one head...
@Grumblevolcano Well I disagree, I paid 37€ €, played it more than any other game (except for FM15) and still feel it's a real bargain, especially with all the free content. Other games would charge you extra for that and then you would end up paying way more than only 60$.
@sinalefa Well technically my son bought it for $16 while it was on sale. He got a $20 eShop card from my parents - his grandparents - for his birthday. He got that and the SMM level in SSBU and 7 cents on my credit card. I didn't play it for awhile since it was his game so I wanted to let him finish it first. We have some odd gaming rules in my house.
Here's what I thought of it, copied and pasted from elsewhere in case you missed it.
...I was really let down by Swords & Sodleris 2. They tried way to hard and destroyed the formula that worked in the first game - simple progression and ramped up difficulty. When you make a 15 level game and every level needs it's own tutorial you are doing it wrong. There is simply no flow to the game at all. Almost every level could be played randomly. So so so disappointed.
So that's that. I still haven't finished, I'm on the portal level. I didn't get stuck, just stopped playing to watch TV w/ my wife.
RotE is difficult for me to judge. I'm having fun playing w/ my wife, b/c she isn't a serious gamer so when we are playing together it's just for fun. No going for high scores or kills or anything even remotely competitive, it's all about the teamwork w/ us. And of course its Star Wars. THE Star Wars. We're both the right age for that. Have I told you she has almost the entire set of the original toys from the 80's in a case? (I really need to get some photos of her holding them on here.) So it's not great, but it has the atmosphere and the music and a semblance of the storyline, sort of. So I wouldn't recommend it to any hardcore gamer looking for COD or even Splatoon or Zelda, but for us old fuddy duddies it's great. I bought 5 more figures today so we can play Pirates, Monsters and the Incredibles. Cost me $22.79 for Baymax, Davey Jones, Mr. Incredible, Mike and Sully. I bought that piece I was missing a couple of weeks ago for about $3.75.
OK, just bought The Gaurdians o the Glaaxy set, rocket Raccoon, Groot adn Hiro for $32. I may b edon ew. holiday shopping.
@shani "The Museum got released a week ago, the other map not yet."
That's almost enough to go play it, except w/ the 12 map x 4 hour rotation 2 at a time what are the odds it is up? That's a rhetorical question, I don't expect you to do any probability tables.
They should at least let us test any map at any time, maybe throw in a few octolings like some of the single player levels. Maybe let us choose which level to test a weapon n in the weapon store. Something I've only played on the bridge once or twice. And they need to just delete the warehouse entirely. It's always on. That or the oil rig, but at least I like that one.
@FreakFerrett
Mar = Sea Tina = Tub. like bathtub. I'm positive that Martina is just the spanish female name for Martin. I'm from El Salvador so I get the pun. Just like the names Callie and Marie. Individually they are good girl names. Together it's Calimari. WOO. cute.(squid)
@Grumblevolcano "The game on its own is worth $25 or $30."
Compared to what? Based on what? I'm as cheap as they come, but Splatoon has a fairly short but decent single player game that by itself would be $15 on the eShop, add in the sorry excuse for offline 2 player and it's $20. The online has several modes - ranked, friend, turf, whatever the other one is, and we get to play online w/o paying the Xbox Live or PS+ yearly tax.
And when you consider Mario Kart 8 adn SSBU are still $60, an dLEgo City Undercover is still $50. Are you sayin gLCU is better than SPlatoon?
Personally I htink almost all games are ovrpriced - Affordable Space Adventures looks like a $10 or $15 game tops, Sords adn Soldiers 2 should havebene $10, yet they ar eboth $20. LCU should be $20 by now but Nintendo never drops prices. WW HD i still $50 and that's a 15 year old port that should have started at $40 and be $20 now b/c even the port is 2 years old.
So based on everything around it now, I'd say Spaltoon is well worth $50, if nto $60 - splitting the differnce between the $60 in the US and the $40 in the EU.
If you want to argue every game should be 99c or free-to-start, well I'm wiliing to argue that too, SSBU should actually really have been free-to-start w/ it's $50 worth of DLC and Cloud coming, but it wasn't free, it was $60. Star Wars Battlefront has a $50 season pass on Day 1. That's nuts.
But in the videgame reality we live in, Spaltoon is a $50 game - single player, lame but there couch 2 player, and several modes on line worldwide. And Splatfest every month. Splatoon is much much much more a $50 game than Lego City Undercover is $50, that's for sure.
@rjejr From my experience the modes and maps appear on the same weekdays, although I think the timespan is longer than one week.
You can try all the maps in the private mode, right?
And the Museum map was on heavy rotation for the first two days, in case you missed it (I also would've wished for it to be longer, but only because I like that map so much ).
@rjejr I think the main issue here is the Nintendo's reluctance to discount anything that involves them. They only seem to do it for Black Friday, Christmas and when Smash in involved and even then the eshop sales in those cases are generally not that great. LCU should've been permanent $20 2 years ago like most Lego games end up after about half a year.
@Grumblevolcano Nintnedo is the worst at sales. But I am really looking forward to see what they do on the eShop next week. They said sales "up to" 50% off. So does that mean Pushmo $10 on sale for $5 and Pikmin 3 $60 on sale for $50 or Pikmin 3 on sale $30?
Other notable games that could use a sale besides LCU - Sports Club, $60 on Amazon,should be $20 on sale. Mario Kart 8 and Pikmin 3 b/c they can sell the DLC to make up some of the difference. W101 b/c it's already cheap.
Of course a big issue for me is 3 years on the market adn no Greatest Hits "Nintnedo Selects" line. That is overdue for the above games, and NSMBU. I hear the new preisdent is a business guy, maybe he'll have half a brain and make Nitnedo a lot of money by selling old games cheaply rather than keeping them expensive and not selling any at all.
Splatoon is still worth $50 though. My 150 hours says so. And it's still only 6 months old. Even Sony usually waits a year before the half off drop. Maybe next summer, during the NX announcement, they'll announce the Selects line to keep current Wii U owners from revolting?
anyone else totally feel like jesse ventura with this beast?
I ain't got time to bleed.
@CB85 I go back and forth between mario maker and splatoon... I hate neglecting either game but both deserve my time too. I also have so many other wii u good games I haven't desired to play since these 2 games came out (watch dogs, hyrule warriors, mk8, runbow, pikmin3, wonderful101, darksiders2, stealth2).
