Earlier today we shared a scan of an upcoming issue of CoroCoro Magazine that featured a silhouette of a new Pokémon called Magiana. Now the diligent Joe Merrick over at Serebii has dug up a full image of the 'mon in question, along with some details of how it'll emerge onto the scene.
It has quite a mysterious backstory - it's man-made with a metallic body, having been created over 500 years ago; an image of it is below.
It'll star in the next Pokémon movie which will be called Volcanion and the Exquisite Magiana; Volcanion will be chasing the new 'mon.
Do you like the look of this new Pokémon?

Reminds me of Mewtwo, being genetically engineered from Mew. Very curious as to how this one will turn out; it looks a bit like a metal Diancie to me!
It's interesting looking... Idk how I feel about it
Do not want.
Honestly, not bad. I don't mind that design at all. But... is this the start of Gen. VII or the end of Gen. VI? It would have been found in previous data-mines, right?
@GloverMist Yes, it's definitely not in the current games. Maybe a Z-exclusive (like how the different forms of Zygarde will probably be), but more likely something from the next generation. Then again, there were several cases when a Pokémon was revealed 2 or 3 years before its generation. Stuff like Ho-Oh, Munchlax, and Bonsly come to mind.
The Kalos war was 3000 years ago... nope, I'm struggling to make a connection 😊 Great design tho. Exquisite even 😃
I kinda like it.
Pokemon x Portal? Let's ask if it wants to go to space.
The silhouette image did not do this Pokémon any justice. At first it looked like a bunny in a dress. Now, it looks like a Klink and Diancie DNA digivolution.
Perhaps it was made out of Cybertronium? xD
It certainly looks like a genetically altered form of Diancie (its head looks like Klink and… why the bunny ears?).
It'll be pretty hard to get excited about Pokémon Z if the only new Pokémon are the new Zygarde forms (yawn) or a couple of extra legendaries which will mostly likely be accessible after some 30-40 hours of gameplay.
Whatever they're planning, I hope it lives up to the 20th anniversary hype that they're trying to build.
@Krisi Yeah, I remember a good many Sinnoh Pokémon were revealed years before the games came out - the amount of them in the Hoenn anime was ridiculous! I just hope we get something seriously good for the inevitable Pokémon Z. Game Freak works in mysterious ways...
@GloverMist Yeah, Bonsly, Weavile and Lucario were prominent pre-Gen 4 reveals.
They were even in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue Rescue Team in some form. That means Lucario had a GBA appearance.
Porygon 2.0!!!
Looks terrible and uninspired. I just can't convince myself to like most of the recent Pokémon designs; they're just getting more and more complicated, losing the appeal of the first generetions. Meh.
By the way, as someone already noticed, it looks like they thought "oh well, let's take Diancie's look and make it into steel rather than rock" and ended up fusing Diancie (which also looks terrible and overcomplicated) with Klingklang.
Oh, almost forgot: don't know if it's just me or me being Italian, but Magiana sounds sooooo bad to me it almost is funny
Looks like it is part of the Baltoy/Claydol line, or related to those pokemon like Diancie is to Carbink.
Looks like a robot Diancie... :/
Woah! That looks so cool! So I heard Zygarde, Hoopa, and I believe Diancie are supposed to be in the movie as well. This is gonna be interesting. All I hope for is that this movie has a much better plot than Hoopa and the Clash of Ages.
@Dakt There are few man made pokemon. Porygon is a prominent example. I think we could include Voltorb here as well, maybe even Klink, Muk, Weezing or Garbodor! Genesect also has some human input in it
It looks really cool. I definitely want one.
It looks like a legendary, although it could also be the Lucario/Zoroark of gen 7. (they were both the stars of their own movies)
@clvr Most pokemon are way more simple than you think, it's really only legendaries that have semi complicated designed tbh.
Even so it makes sense for this Poke because it's man made lol.
Also Magiana is just a rough translation, no way thats it's real name.
Thankfully the reveal isn't being hyped as I was fearing it would be. However, the tradition of giving us very small samples of future generations in current-gen Pokémon movies isn't going to fade anytime soon, it seems.
Looks dope! I'm guessing metal and fairy?
Definitely Steel, I am guessing Electric or Fairy as a second type.
it has a plus sign in both its eyes , pokemon plus and minus CONFIRMED !
Wow, looks like a metal Diancie. I'm more curious as to if it belongs in Gen 6 or 7; next-Gen Pokemon have been revealed in the anime years before their proper generation (Ho-Oh and Togepi come to mind here).
Whoa, a new Pokemon. As far as the name goes, I assume it's a rough translation of the Japanese name. The English name will most likely be different.
Wow!, What a interesting, and, it's 'cute', XD
Man-made Pokemon?, well, will see really that is about of ths Pokemon; but, well, with new forms for Zygarde and this 'totally' new Pokemon, The next Pokemon game in the way will be part of the 6 Gen or the new 7 Generation?
This looks absolutely fantastic! It's just sooo cuuute. I'm guessing that it'll be a Mythical Pokemon from generation 7. I can't wait to see how many new ones we get! X/Y had a pretty dismal number if I do say so myself.
@IceClimbers It rarely is different when talking about Mythical/Legendary Pokémon. @Zombo Same!
@clvr It's not just you; as a native English speaker (American), I find the idea of a Pokemon movie featuring an "Exquisite Magiana" hilarious.
Looks pretty much identical to the Diancia thing.
Can we just move onto Gen 7 sometime soon?
C'mon just give us Zero version already!
@Lugia same......
I feel that Game Freak is losing it. What happened to that creative spark that they had from gen 1-4?
Ew.
I'm guessing it's a Steel/Fairy.
Which is a good thing because that means that ICANKILLITWITHFIRE.
Now things are getting interesting. I have a feeling this really is Gen 6.5, they probably won't be skipping Zygarde because it's too major a legendary and they probably aren't teasing a 7th gen Pokemon early because the internet hypes these reveals up to no end and tends to have a short attention span.
I feel with all the thing the XYZ anime is showing that isn't in the current game's codding... I expect SOME 6th gen game sometime this year.
Hackers would've found Magiana long ago by hacking XY, but that isn't the case.
Gen 7 approaching.
It looks weird, but also cute. If it's a legendary then I think it's good, otherwise it's a bit too complex for a regular pokemon.
Joining the ranks of Ho-oh, Kecleon, Munchlax, Zororak and the Kalos starters/legends presumably. Always love the reveal of next generation Pokémon (whether I love the design or hate it). The next few months/years should an exciting time full of far flung theories and frightfully accurate predictions.
Did I miss the memo? This website's design has changed by quite a bit.
Yay finally a compeltely new Pokemon that wasnt leaked by hackers.
It looks a little Diancie-sh and I'm not a fan of her, but I'll wait until more details emerge before judging it.
And for those wondering about the name, Magiana is its japanese name (マ-ma ギ-gi ア-a ナ-na) and it's likely they'll change it once Game Freak brings it over here.
Looks like a fairy/steel type. I hope it is going to be overpowerd like klefki
So.... like Porygon? But does anyone else think it looks like Diancie in a way? And does this mean we can get it in ORAS this year also with Volcanion? Please say its so
@clvr It looks like a typo on mangiano, definitely doesn't look edible though.
Well it's creator was lazy. They took a pokeball and made a pokemon out of it. Look at that friggin dress!
I like it though - it's not bad. Looking forward to the year of pokemon that's here to stay~
@IceClimbers It's not a translation, it's literally its Japanese name.
Oh my god she has a pokeball dress. That makes her even more cute.
@Octane ahahahah yeah something like it, although it also made me thought about fagiano 😂
@Zombo I know it's the Japanese name and chances are very high that it'll be changed for the Western release, but still I can't help but get awkward feelings from that name 😄
In regards to the design, I have to disagree: take the likes of Hawlucha, Barbaracle (one of the ugliest Pokémon ever, but that's not the point) or Zygarde, just to name the first examples that come to mind, and compare them with Charmender, Clefairy or Togepi. That's clearly another way of drawing Pokémon.
That's not to say I'm a genwunner or something like that (in fact I've never owned a Gen I game and my first Pokémon game was Sapphire. C'mon, start hurling stones at me, I deserve it 😄), but as much as I love many creatures from the latest Generations, I can't help but feel like they've been unnecessarily complicating the designs since Gen IV. Don't get me wrong, I like Palkia for example, but to me it doesn't look nor "feel" like a Pokémon, and things have been going downhill from there. That said, I personally think Gen VI is the worst one in terms of designs.
@Rhydas You're wrong. Taking inspiration from a man made object in the lore and using it as a basis for the dress design of a man made Pokemon? That's freaking inspired right there. That's a pretty awesome concept!
@Socar love me some rock with hands, poke ball, and Jell O pokemon.
I really feel uneasy...
Not the pokemon itself, but the direction. Like seriously, a man-made pokemon that came about 500 years ago? All I'm seeing is another porygon.. what's special about this?
The design direction is really cheap imo... when I saw the corocoro image before reading, I said "oh great another pokemon with two mega evolutions... we hated two charizard and mewtwo megas now we have diancie x and y" then when it said new pokemon I was like"..... so we're going to just make everything a new pokemon despite looking exactly like pokemon we already have"
When the zygarde formes were announced I was like "this is new, ok I'll accept this direction" now this went in the complete opposite direction.. this just makes the recent updates seem less like innovation and more like "we just randomly did this, we don't care."
"Man created it 500 years ago" that's not as long as they make it... atleast 500 years wouldn't be described as "ancient" and as somebody mentioned, the pokemon war, whether it be from the lucario movie or the x/y lore, was no where in that timezone.
I feel like they're just making stuff up for the sake of filling space they can't come up with ideas for.
I was a very opptimistic pokemon fan, now I'm starting to understand and see the trend others have fought about even after defending the subject.
@MegaBeedrill I feel like you're being really nitpicky and negative about a cute little new Pokemon with a pretty cool concept.
Also, only the loud minority hated having two Mega Charizard and Mega Mewtwo evolutions.
@BlatantlyHeroic I'm being very picky.
I don't think the community hate two forms, it's mostly the competitive scene where people need to flip a coin and guess which one it is rather than make accurate and safe plays based on skill.
Why's everyone using modern (as far as the in-game timeline is concerned) man-made Pokemon as a comparison? They said 500 years ago, as far as I know, no previous man-made Pokemon was created that long ago... I imagine it being more like some "ancients who are actually aliens" or something like that type of backstory.
Personally, I love it and fail to understand why people hate more recent designs because of them being more detailed? Maybe it's just because I like Digimon which are far more detailed than Pokemon anyway but I see it as a good thing from a design standpoint, makes them appear far more creative and imaginative than literally a different coloured real creature with a few extra things stuck on.
As a side note, is anyone else having a really hard time getting used to the new layout? I keep getting confused as to who people are replying to for some reason.
Looks like BB-8 to me.
I like it, though it could be better. At least it's cute, so I hope it's Steel/Fairy as it would be indestructible.
Loving the design!
Looks like Dianci got a Klink super glued to her face.
All jokes aside, this design looks pretty nice. Waiting on the news for the next main series games is getting more and more suspenceful.
I like it, looks a bit like a metal mega Diancie with a Klink head (Maybe the story is that it was built as a sort of Diancie-clone?), and i really like Diancie!
Question is when it will show up in a main series pokémon game, Togepi took quite some time from anime to game, but there are also the Zygarde forms... Hmmm... i hope this means a main series game is incoming. ^_^
Not really a fan of these machine like designs. I like the ones that are designed off of some type of animal better.
@Freeon-Leon : The vast majority of legendary Pokémon names are identical across all regions. There are a few exceptions, of course, but Magiana will most likely retain its name in foreign language markets as well.
It looks like Diancie combined with Klang.
Also that hole on its chest looks suspiciously like where a Mega Stone would go.
The bottom is too fat. Other than that it's fine.
You know, I wonder if the people who made Magiana saw Diancie beforehand? That would explain why the eyes look so similar. It would also explain why Magiana has that royal princessy look to it, because apparently Diancie is the Princess of the Diamond Domain.
Hey Game Freak, Disney called: They want their droid back.
looks like there is a mega stone in its middle part
@sillygostly Well, based on the most recent legendaries, that's probable.
It just sounds a bit wierd, that's all.
@clvr You're comparing first stages to fully evolved guys so I wouldn't say that's fair but other than that you don't have to like the designs or anything but they most certainly aren't uninspired imo
Please, Nintendo, tell me more of your exquisite mangina...
it's probably Magearna. Cause of the well, gear.
@sillygostly Magearna is its official name
