@RainbowGazelle Yes, but iirc you could get some stationary with Play Coins. Ninty doesnt seem to remember those eh? What ever happened to trying to get people to walk or take their 3DSes out with them and encouraging the use of StreetPass? No, they go for the microtransaction route instead.

Re: Takashi Tezuka Wanted Super Mario Bros. 3 To Use An Overhead Perspective

I highly doubt this would have turned out well so they made the right decision. If you can't perfect a new game mechanic, then I think it works best if you can fine-tune an existing mechanic — and thus we got one of the best Marios, SMB3, instead of some unique isometric platformer that wouldn't work quite right.

However, it's still really interesting to know they were thinking of 3D platformers even in the NES days. The only game I can think of that does that on NES is 3D Worldrunner... I can safely say I wouldnt have enjoyed a Mario game designed like that.

Re: Analysts Weigh In On The Nintendo Switch Debate

A few of these are minor complaints, like the target demographic being wrong, but overall this is a pretty reasonable analysis that I agree with.

I'm not sure why on this website Nintendo is perfect and can never be subject to criticism. Hmm... Why could that be...

"Famitsu also asked about what would be contained in the box, and was told that it would include the console, the Joy Con and its detachable controllers."

That also means no boxed Pro Controller. Deal breaker for me since it will probably be at least another $50. Joy Con Grip looks bad to me.

They say that it is a home console "first and foremost" yet don't box it with a home TV dock? Can they not make up their minds?

Re: The Pokémon Sun and Moon Demo Limits Online Functions on Old 3DS Models

Vague and somewhat misleading article though I know it wasn't intentional. I, like a few others, thought you meant battling, trading, etc. would be disabled. That's usually what I think when I see Pokemon and online features in the same sentence.

But nevertheless, that's a relief. Miiverse and the Internet browser will not be missed by me.

Re: Random: Mario Is Younger Than His Mighty Moustache Suggests

FriedSquid

It definitely seems accurate when you take his moustache off, but I've always had a funny headcanon that video game characters age with their games. As such, Mario would be about 31/35 and Sonic would be 25.

However I also like to think of Mario and Luigi as the same age as their Super Mario Bros Super Show counterparts... Just very spry middle aged pasta lovers.
