@Hotfusion Nope, you are certainly not alone! I do notice when the frame drops and the game jitters, so prefer a really great 30fps game which is stable versus a 60fps which often drops resolution. I bet if you blind-tested (oxymoron I know!) most gamers, they'd probably not notice anywhere near as much they claim to.
Better review score than I was expecting? I was surprised it was a 'British' development bearing in mind how awful and dated the stereotyping is.
However many of the 'gags' are from much superior source material, such as the vacuum joke lifted straight from Airplane2.....you'd be better off just buying those two movies instead of this.
@FX102A So how would you cope if the physical version was on a disc rather than cartridge? You will always have the problem that the cartridge will be out of date if any bugs/patches are released......or you could choose to play offline and therefore not be forced to have pesky fixes on your Switch (btw, might make online multiplayer a challenge!)
I'm unsure why your knowledge that a cartridge does not have the latest version matters one bit ? Surely if a game has some update/fix data which improves the game then that is all that matters??? As for maybe one day losing the ability to redownload update data, then chances are that the game would no longer playable online (which is the major part of rocket league!). Why worry about things that may never happen during the lifetime of the game? Much more likely we'll all be wiped out in the next 6 years due to a nutty dictator playing nuclear button chicken with N.Korea!
After seeing how they stole the vacuum joke from Airplane2, I wonder how much other stuff has been nicked?? Hopefully this is not the start of seriously bad shovelware making its journey onto Switch
Aside from the thing not actually working, who on earth decided that sludge grey would be the ideal colour for any item, never mind a Switch dock?
People do need to understand that crowd funding anything is always going to be high risk - if it wasn't. the person/group/company would have found a backer without resorting to c/f. Great if it does turn out you get a product, but often you won't (or you'll be bitterly disappointed that the artist impression didn't translate into reality)
@TossedLlama You should be fine without an SD card if you are only buying retail.....unless you are buying an EA game which seem to need up to a couple of dozen gigs! However, buying a 64 or 128 GB is pretty cheap, 10 seconds to put it in your Switch then theres no need to worry about memory problems.
Both the Kit 1 and Customisation are listed as 'best sellers' on Amazon already. Robot pre-orders are lower. Good thing about Amazon is that any price drops get passed on, I pre-ordered Mario and ending up paying £36.99 - a bit lower than GAME's price yesterday at £52.99!!
As for people whining about the price or content, no-one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy it. Life would be very boring if we all liked the same things.
@OorWullie I can understand you not wanting to play through the game again, but try re-doing it in Master Mode instead....I did and found it as much fun as my first run through (though I died much more!)
Was thinking of buying this, but after hearing the nasty 'voices', not buying it as I was highly irritated after just 10 seconds!
Had this game come out in the summer, sales would have been high,. However, releasing now with a high price, I just can't see that happening now with so many amazing games to play on the Switch.
@Alucard83 It was actually far from stupid that Nintendo didn't go with hard disk drives for a portable system......HDD's are not compatible with playing on the go!
I'd been delaying buying Axiom as I'm getting behind on my Switch playlist, just bought after this article - hopefully like many others now too, Thanks for letting us know of the generosity of Badland games, and all the best to Tom & his family.
@Trickbaby14 NIntendo games haven't been selling great in the UK the last few years due to one simple reason - Nintendo UK thought that they could sell games without advertising (particularly evident with the WiiU) and a pretty useless marketing team (I remember some idiot woman talking about Xmas like we still lived in the 50's where the kid had no say in what the parent would buy them - and that was in the WiiU lifespan). Sony have done well in the UK because they had a budget for adverts! The Switch is finally getting a decent set of advertisements (more a week than the lifetime of the WiiU!) sales have rocketed as a result, and is on many Xmas wish-lists (not usually the case for NIntendo consoles). Bear in mind though that the UK has 65M citizens, so will have a smaller market than, say, Germany (82M) or US (320M)
Please highlight that these figures are for physical sales only, not eshop (or sony/MS equivalent). As a result, this is not an accurate indicator of sales figures and these figures end up pretty meaningless.
Skyrim is at No2 & Doom at No.5 in the eshop sales chart - both were also in the top 6 prior to release from eshop pre-orders/downloads. What are the sales figures from the eshop?
No doubt like many others, I've been downloading retail games from the eshop rather than buying physical copies simply for the convenience of not having the swap cartridges around.....the opposite of my 3DS library which is almost entirely physical copies.
@MartyFlanMJFan Also noticing not much support in GAME stores; mind you the few they are selling seem to be more expensive than the RRP (or a tenner more than Amazon!). In the South, Brighton GAME are completely useless. Interestingly though their Haywards Heath branch is like a different retailer, really knowledgeable and helpful.....no doubt if H/O find out then they'll be marked for closure!
@MsgBoardGamer I presume you don't mean Daniel Ahmed the football coach? Ahmad is an analyst for China/Asia, a 'credible' one who was banned from NeoGaf? Anyone today can claim to be an industry expert, I've been playing for 30 years, surely I must be one by now!
@JamesR A third thing we all need to know is the eshop sales figures. Until these 'official' figures include eshop sales then these figures are always going to be meaningless. Also, as we are in the run-up to Xmas, no-one should be paying much attention to games sales until the end of December/beginning of January. Both Doom and Skyrim are on my Xmas list, no doubt many others too.
Bought this on a whim but become addicted very quickly. Delighted the sound is going to be sorted, as having to close & restart several times a session. Faster saves much appreciated too....plus having a developer who cares about ongoing support after you've bought a game.
@Alikan I fully understand if you don't want to play such graphically gory games, but that is what the Age Rating is for! Doom is an 18-rated game, R.E and others are either 15 or even 12 ratings. If you don't want the gore, then perhaps pay attention to age ratings??
Next month I start losing Gold points (lost quite a few Platinum points the last few months)....about time Nintendo got rid of the 'soon' for Switch rewards and do something....ANYTHING!!
@ValhallaOutcast If you look carefully at the small print at the bottom, the question Nintendo actually asked was the age & gender of the person who wanted the console the most (not who physically bought it).
Zelda grip looks cool; however I'd advise anyone to feel the grip before purchasing, I had to buy a PowerA grip to replace my NIntendo one I'd left at my sisters....it was a weird shade of red, and the plastic is incredibly cheap feeling and not pleasant to hold. After a couple of days I ended up buying the Nintendo chargeable grip.
Chart figures are pretty meaningless until they include both retail sales AND download figures. I bought SMO as a download but only paid £39.99 rather than the eShop price of an extra £10. About time Nintendo charged better prices on the eShop.
@BulkSlash Excellent points!! I'm unsure why/when people suddenly obsessed over framerate and resolution, if a game has great gameplay then who cares. When did gamers become like train spotters? I bet 99% of the whiners would be happy if the developer lied and said a 720p game was 1080 when docked (as few would be able to tell the difference)
It seems developers/publishers are having a dilemma, they expected the Switch to bomb like the WiiU so didn't commit to it. Now they are seeing high sales and very high demand for Xmas period and debating whether to keep losing potential revenue or commit to games on the platform.
The video deliberately shields the device from view, so probably just using an off-the-shelf system and not the one shown in the picture. The critical issue here is price, I doubt the system will be cheaper than the wide range of small (rechargeable) projectors already on the market, most of these with better specs. Additionally, will the device be restricted to the Switch or can you plug other things into it and, just as important, will the unit also charge the Switch as well as the projector.
@outsider83 Every so often I think about selling mine too, as its in pretty much new condition (headaches & backache stopped me from using it). Still sits boxed on a high shelf in the lounge and will probably be there until I'm in a box.
The biggest difference I've seen between the WiiU and Switch is that I see more adverts per month for the Switch than I did for the lifetime of the W1iiU.
As for the JoyCon whining. They have to be small to fit on the console when playing off TV. If they were bigger then how would that work as a handheld system? Pretty obvious why they needed to be so small. Paired with the joycon grip/holder the actual controller is pretty decent - so much so I haven't bothered getting a pro-controller (despite over 1000 hours play). Yeah, on their own they are small for some adults, but it is really easily rectified by adding the straps or buying a pair of joycon grips for about £9/$12. Or get a pro-controller, funny how people forget a pro-controller was also an option for the WiiU (and Wii).
Funny how the loudest haters of the joycons seem to be people who don't actually have a Switch nor used the joycons, but just sheep bleating after seeing a couple of youtube clips.
All figures are completely meaningless if they don't included digital sales. Fifa seems to be top 3 in Switch downloads last couple of weeks, despite zero marketing effort by EA. Sales may well be boosted as the Switch is looking like one of the top must-have Xmas presents.
Steamworld Dig & Sonic plus others prove 3rd party games can & will sell if they are good enough. Besides there are too many games on my list to play already for the Switch, never mind F.E Warriors, Mario, Skyrim & Xenoblade 2 coming soon! (plus Hollow which I'm hoping will not disappoint after seeing the trailer).
@scully1888 I read with interest your rationale for not giving a score for a game which is broken. There are no excuses for releasing a game which is not fit for release, EA should have delayed the game until the major faults were fixed. We are not talking about minor faults which we all accept (reluctantly) will be patched soon after release. So what if Metacritic and other sites will report low scores 'for ever'....maybe that it the kick up the bottom that EA needs to change its attitude to releasing games that have not been tested & fixed properly. When I buy a car I expect it to be working on Day 1, not have an missing dashboard or suspension and just accept I'll have to wait weeks or months for it to be sorted out. I note that other games were given low scores because of major faults.....Troll & I received a score of 4/10 mainly because of that. In the past this site has regularly (and rightly) given low scores to unfinished games, usually by small developers. Why should you give EA free pass to mediocrity but deny smaller developers that same chance to fix faults? If the game was an eshop purchase of a few quid, then there wouldn't be such an outcry about withholding a score, but EA expect mugs to pay between £60 & £120 for a game which any reputable developer/publisher would have delayed to at least get the game playable.
@Oubie As it is so fast it is initially a little difficult, but it gets much easier with only a little bit of practice - when you known when to slow down for certain corners for example. Repeat the first track a few times before moving onto the next track and you'll easily get the hang of the game. As someone else said, using the trigger buttons to slide around corners is a great tip. This is an absolute bargain, better than many/most full price racing games, and should be on every Switch console.
@123akis Hi, I've also only just seen the message on my Switch; however I've just tried it and the offer still works (unless I was customer number 5,000!). You don't need to buy a game, but can just add £20 credit to your account. It comes up as a £20 purchase on your Switch but then Paypal discounts £5 and only charges £15 to your debit/credit card.
@dew12333 Easy there, Mr/Ms Angry!! Just because this site relates to Nintendo, it does not mean they have to suck up to them nor blindly agree to all of their business decisions/choices. I, like many others, look at this site primarily because they are NOT afraid to be critical of some of Nintendo's decisions.
Is this really a problem for most people? You can pick up a 32gb card for a tenner, or £20 for 64Gb with amazon (other retailers are available, but Currys will rip you off!)
Really hope a shortened version of this appears as a TV advert....the Switch is still selling well, Nintendo needs to keep this up to persuade more third party commitment.
Although too late this year, one thing Primeday did have was 20% off all Warehouse Deals. Hence I managed to pick up a new DJI Phantom 3 drone for £320 vs. the new price of £428. Plus also saved 30% on a couple of microSD cards. There were a couple of deals on 3DS games; however as the Switch is in short supply plus games are limited & in demand, can people really expect to have seen great deals on Nintendo stuff yesterday?
@thesilverbrick I'm a bit unsure why there would need to be so much (re)development, after all the Dolphin emulator seems to be able to run many Gamecube/Wii games, not perfectly - but then NIntendo's VC is hardly perfect! Perhaps Nintendo should just buy up Dolphin, then get that running on the Switch, problem solved! I'm getting fed up of seeing weekly NeoGeo releases on the Switch. Nintendo should by now have figured out how to get at least some past Nintendo games on its own console, and at a much better rate than the Wii & WiiU!

@Darius_Truxton
Sorry for the delay in replying, many thanks for your advice - was much appreciated. I've ordered the yellow JoyCons too!

@thesilverbrick
I'm a bit unsure why there would need to be so much (re)development, after all the Dolphin emulator seems to be able to run many Gamecube/Wii games, not perfectly - but then NIntendo's VC is hardly perfect!
