Re: Review: Little Inferno (Wii U eShop)

FredTheCat

I couldn't wait for my WiiU, so I bought the PC version of this (via Steam). It is certainly unusual, and very different to World of Goo (though love the same graphics style).

What got me was just how addictive it is to just sit there and burn stuff! I ended up burning endless School Buses just to hear those kiddie screams (sick or what!), and the poor toy kitten. I'll no doubt download this again for my WiiU as this game (and the games company) deserves every success.

Re: Wii Mini Is Official And Has No Online Connectivity

FredTheCat

Despite having a (gamecube compatible) Wii and awaiting my WiiU, my first reaction after seeing the design was it is a must-buy. However, no online or access to VC means it is abit pointless. Loving the red controller & nunchuck though, wish those were available separately!

Re: Halting Wii U System Update May Brick the System

FredTheCat

I think the key thing to remember here is that the idiot journalist unplugged his WiiU because he was impatient and throwing toys out of his pram.

I'd very much doubt your internet connection going down will mess up a WiiU, BUT turning off the power WILL !! It aint just a WiiU that doesn't like that, PC's often get screwed up when you turn the power off during an update!

A learning point here - leave it turned on until its finished updating.

Re: n-Space Not Happy With Heroes Of Ruin Sales Figures

FredTheCat

I think the lesson to be learnt here is that if a company releases a mediocre demo which players found to be abit dull, then naturally those players won't then go on to buy a £30 ($40) game !!

Also, where was the marketing for this game? Too many companies seem to release a game without any marketing and expect people to magically buy it. There is a reason why shovelware such as 'Just Dance' sells in huge numbers - the games have some marketing budget.

Re: Nintendo Responds To Foxconn's Admission Of Guilt In Child Labour Scandal

FredTheCat

Good that Nintendo is quick on the ball. However, Foxconn has had many troubles, just google 'Apple suicides' for some more information. Following multiple deaths, what was Apple's action? To get Foxconn to amend terms of employment that workers must not commit suicide. Oh and 'suicide netting' was placed around the roofs of buildings.

Sadly, I'm not joking.

Re: Wii U Arrives in Japan on 8th December

FredTheCat

Assuming of course you'll be able to attach an external HDD, I think the move is a very sensible one - at least we'll be able to choose our own external device (or use one we already have) rather than be tied into buying an overpriced console-branded version (Xbox I'm looking at you).

So long as European release is also before Xmas, I'll be happy.

Re: Interview: Endgame Studios and the Long Road to Fractured Soul

FredTheCat

To all those who are saying its abit much or maybe won't buy.....after such a mountain to climb getting this game out, then these guys deserve all of us to invest in the game (and in the developer's future). The game looks awesome (and hope that music is in the game!)

If we don't support struggling developers offering original games like this then we deserve a future of endless cheap shovelware like the ipad.

It is clear that Endgame love games and not just in it for the money, and they have listened to gamers and included the stuff we want to see, such as online leaderboards.....if only other developers did the same.

I can't wait until this is released in the UK/Europe, it will be a day 1 purchase. $12 (or equivalent) is a bargain for a game that has taken 8 years' development.

Re: Rumour: European Wii U Release Date and Pricing Confirmed by French Retailer

FredTheCat

As has previously been explained, Nintendo cannot issue an RRP in Europe, leading to companies making up their own price (i.e. a markup from the trade price). If the retailer is saying £275 / €349 then I'd bet Amazon et al to be selling for under £250.

SImilarly games won't be as much as described......as an example, how many people really paid the £39.99 demanded by Nintendo for NSMB2? I paid £30 on release day - I'd expect WiiU games to come in about £40-£45.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo's Steady Start in Retail Downloads

FredTheCat

While digital has such a premium over cartridges it will never be successful. It is hardly a problem carrying 5-10 cartridges around with your 3DS, so convenience is limited. What would be successful is re-releasing games on digital which have been overlooked when launched as a retail release, such as Dr Lautrec or Cave Story....even the Pac-man game which was released (allegedly!).

Re: Crysis 3 Isn't Coming to Wii U

FredTheCat

If the game is developed and it is pretty easy to get the engine going on the WiiU (and therefore the game shouldn't be too difficult to port), I wonder why they aren't releasing it? Perhaps fewer developers would go bankrupt if they made more sensible commercial decisions (and I'd have though it would be extremely easy to make a profit on a Crysis3 WiiU release).

Re: Michael Pachter Doubts 3DS XL's Powers of Revival

FredTheCat

If Nintendo really wants to increase 3DS sales all it has to do is rush forward the releases of Monster Hunter and Professor Layton (both of which have been out in Japan for months).

After a couple of weeks' dithering I've finally ordered an XL today. This will be my 3rd 3DS - I traded in my launch blue one for a Zelda limited edition. Now I'm unsure whether to keep the Zelda 3DS or just sell it.

Re: Nintendo Drops Price of 3DS AC Adapter in Japan

FredTheCat

You don't need to buy the 'official' charger - many cheap chargers are available on Amazon. If you want a charging cable to charge via a USB connection then they can be found on Amazon for as little as £1.49 with free delivery - or a traditional wall charger for £2.89.

Re: Bigger Nintendo 3DS Console Revealed

FredTheCat

Most people are missing the point of the XL - it caters for older gamers' requirements for a larger screen. A matt finish is also no doubt the result of feedback from older gamers (the DSiXL is similarly matte finish).

I'm not surprised no second circle pad was added - look at how many games actually support a second pad.....two or three??? Hardly a great demand to redesign (and alienate the millions of existing 3DS owners with an early redesign.

With regard to the so-called lack of AC charger with the console - this appears to be a result of the Japanese site saying that AC adapter is an accessory sold separately. It also says a battery pack is sold seperately - I doubt very much Nintendo are going to be selling a system with no charger and the need to buy a battery too !!!! Methinks this is a misinterpretation being taken as gospel.

Re: 3DS Patent Covers Vibrating Stylus, New Kinds of Control

FredTheCat

@Geonjaha - A patent application does not hint at any imminent redesign. Most patents are filed to stop others copying an idea which is still in early development, many patents are not ever be used or released. Think 'Vitality Sensor' !!

Also, the new stylus could well just be packaged with a new game release and work with existing 3DS machines - that is much more likely the outcome of this patent.

Re: UK Charts Bring More of the Same for Nintendo

FredTheCat

Nintendo has performed badly ever since Nintendo UK was effectively abolished and moved to Nintendo Europe. More advertising of Mario games would result in big increases in games - Wii dance games are very popular because of one thing....TV advertising.
Hopefully Nintendo is starting to give the UK proper advertising - last night I saw the ad showing off Zelda/Xenoblade/Last Story/Pandora as a set of Wii games.

If Nintendo scrapped paying millions for silly celebritiess and just ploughed that into a higher number of adverts for different games then the UK charts would look very different very quickly. Making an ad just showing game footage is very cheap to produce!

Re: Feature: Bargain Bin DS Games

FredTheCat

You can pick up a new copy of Super Scribblenauts on Amazon for £7.99 - an absolute bargain for an underrated and highly addictive game. As well as grown-ups, it is also great for children as it helps expand their vocabulary and improve spelling!

Re: Talking Point: Lessons to be Learned from WiiWare and Beamdog

FredTheCat

Who at Beamdog was held in a room by Nintendo with a gun to their head forcing their NDA and payment policies on them?? Answer: No-one. Yes, the Wii Shop aint great and the 40Mb limit is pretty pathetic, but 6000 sales globally is not exactly a difficult sales figure to achieve!! I bet Beamdog did NO marketing of the game themselves, just saw it on the Shop Channel and thought 'Well done.now we'll just sit back and expect to see thousands of sales'. A two week turnaround on testing by Nintendo doesn't sound horrendous to me - what it does do is highlight how many times Nintendo rejected the game due to bugs and bad programming if it took 9 months!! No doubt the Nintendo testers weren't too unhappy when they saw the Twitter rant as I bet it was a nightmare for them to have to play for nine months.

Re: Capcom Japan Reprints GameCube Game Gotcha Force

FredTheCat

I've never understood why developers/publishers haven't re-released lots of Gamecube games for the Wii. It would be easy money for them and give the much larger Wii population access to many Gamecube games which are now hard to get hold of or too expensive.

They didn't need to be re-made with motion controllers, just made them compatible with the Classic Controller Pro (or even better a re-released GC controller).

Re: GAME Not Selling Mario Party 9

FredTheCat

It is not a case of GAME not wanting to stock Nintendo or EA games, but more that their finances are in such a bad state that they cannot get any credit and must pay cash upfront for their merchandise. This will be very difficult for GAME to recover from, I'm more sad that Gamestation will go under too if GAME goes under. Gamestation's Brighton branch appears to be still staffed by the staff who were around before GAME bought the company. They care about their customers and are all gaming addicts. There is no comparison with the soul-less staff in the two GAME stores we have (who treat customers like something on the bottom of their shoes).

Re: Now GAME Pulls The Last Story Completely

FredTheCat

It should be worth pointing out that GAME fully owns Gamestation - therefore if GAME goes under then Gamestation will do too (unless a buyer is found for the Gamestation brand by any bankruptcy administrator). It should also be noted that HMV is also struggling to survive - just last month it announced it was considering scaling back the sale of video games.

I wouldn't bet any money on all three still being alive at the end of the year.

Re: Review: Mutant Mudds (3DSWare)

FredTheCat

When I bought my 3DS, I expected the online shop to be filled with quickly developed dross (especially in the first year). It is great to see how wrong I was, with just about all the 3DSware being really great must-have games.

Re: TIGA Calls for Clarification on Download Sales Secrecy

FredTheCat

While I don't agree with Nintendo's policy of not making sales figures public, it was very clear in their T&C's when Icon signed up to them. No-one held a gun to Icon and forced them to develop for Nintendo - they chose to do so and also chose to agree to Nintendo's T&C's. Their figures did reveal very poor sales, maybe it was as much to do with the games being dismal as to Nintendo's policies. It seems some developers expect Nintendo to do their marketing for them if it is on WiiWare - they don't and if a developer wants a game to sell then they should do at least some marketing. Anyone in business must do anything they can to drive their sales, not just release and sit back expecting great sales. They could at leasr all make free demos available on WiiWare, although of course this would not have helped Icon sell their shovelware!!.

Re: Nintendo Donates 5,000 3DS Consoles to The Louvre

FredTheCat

Implemented properly, I've no doubt it will be alot better than those audio guides. Using AR to point at objects and then get more information will be a great idea and will promote the 3DS (which of course is the reason for this tie-in).

Personally though, I'd much rather NoE had donated 5,000 consoles to children's hospitals.

Re: 3DS Games Take Top Three in Japanese Sale Charts

FredTheCat

@Gamer83, ask any industry expert about why the PSP was such a success in Japan, they will all say Monster Hunter. Not having this franchise will have a massive effect on Vita's sales (or rather a lack thereof). Especially after the 3DS price cut, the Vita (although impressive specs on paper) looks way too expensive - it is firmly in iPad territory.

I used to have a PSP but got fed up with endless ports of PS2 games and very few unique killer games. Unfortunately Sony seems to still misunderstand the portable market and think that PS3 graphics alone are enough for a portable to sell. If you think 3DS battery life is bad, I bet the Vita will be measured in minutes not hours!

Re: 3DS Ambassador GBA Games Out Friday in Europe

FredTheCat

Damn you Nintendo, I now have another 10 brilliant games to try to play!! I'm already behind with MarioLand, Mario Kart 7, Cave Story, ZeldaSkyWard and Xenoblade, not to mention the previous 10 Ambassador games! I've also got to try to play these before Pandora's Tower and Last Story and Resident Evil and Luigi come out in Q1!!

In 20 years of gaming I've never had so many games hit me in the space of a couple of months!
