Re: Crytek Reveals Docked And Handheld Resolutions For Crysis Remastered On Switch

FredTheCat

@Tonyo
Sorry to call you out, but you've been rude to people ever since you joined (your second posting was to insult someone who liked a game you didn't), hence why I suggested you look back at your behaviour. The vast majority of your 62 posts have not been in response to anyone else being rude to you, but you seem to take pleasure in resorting to insulting anyone who has a different opinion. You are just coming across as a thoroughly unpleasant troll, I'm hoping this is not the type of person who you really are. After all Australians are supposed to be the nicest of nations.

Re: Crytek Reveals Docked And Handheld Resolutions For Crysis Remastered On Switch

FredTheCat

@gopher1369
Very well said, games used to be about playability and enjoyment, not numbers of pixels and frames.
Most people cannot tell hence the reliance on a developer saying the resolution and frame rate. If they all lied and said 60fps and 1080p most of the obsessives would be happy and not whine!
I only ever notice if a game suddenly dips in performance, a stable 30fps is much preferable.... After all the best FPS ever ran at practically 1/2 that (bring back Goldeneye on a Switch VC for N64!)

Re: Nintendo Officially Unveils The LEGO NES Console, Launches Next Month

FredTheCat

I think a lot of people need to calm down about this, and less whining!!
Lego has never been a company which makes consoles, so why would it make a working NES? This is a set designed for adults, which can be displayed (like many other sets)
Lego could easily have done a basic cheaper version with a couple of hundred bricks; however this will be a collector's item, over 2,000 pieces with a high level of detail which AFOLs will appreciate. Sets like this take a couple of years in development.
If you want a working NES go and buy a classic or an old one and old CRT TV!!

Re: UK Retailer GAME To Close 40 Stores In "Rationalisation Programme"

FredTheCat

Does anyone else try not to nod off when trying to read a comment longer than a novel??

When GAME 'merged' with Gamestation, they should have adopted the latter model (and their expertise). They might today still have been a profitable company. Overpriced, poor range, poor staff knowledge, zero customer service....hardly surprising they are dying.

Re: The Nintendo Switch NES Controllers Are Now Available To Pre-Order In Europe

FredTheCat

WARNING for anyone who is tempted by redeeming points for the money-off vouchers!!
I cashed in for a £5 voucher for the NES controllers; however after a week of trying, the second Nintendo store which is the only place to be able to order these controllers will STILL not allow me to enter my correct address (despite the normal store being OK for the last decade!)
As I can't enter my full address and it is likely the controllers would therefore go missing, I reluctantly had to ask Nintendo Customer Service to refund the £5 voucher. THEY HAVE REFUSED.
A rude 'customer service' guy refused point blank saying that as it is a reward scheme they won't and don't have to refund the £5 back to me. I'm awaiting a callback from his manager as there was no-one else in the building that I could speak with - as the guy couldn;t even give me a likelihood of when the callback would be, I'm not expecting this.
He also couldnt explain why the main Nintendo store would offer free delivery but these controllers they charge additional money for (a company called Best Way??? Not a UK company!)

I've been a Nintendo fan since buying the first NES and Gameboy consoles, after 30 years I expect a tiny bit of customer service from them when they can't reliably deliver a controller to my address because their own website is so screwed up and launched without any testing. (Rant Over!)

Re: DOOM Eternal On Switch Will Target 30fps

FredTheCat

I bet if you develop a stable 30fps game and tell people it is 60fps then 99% of people won't notice. Somehow we have become obsessed with the number of frames per second - I'd much rather have a stable game running at 30 than one which tries to run at 60 and slows down massively on occasion.
Maybe I'm getting too old, all I care about is 'does it play well and is it fun'? Some of the best games of all time have fps at less than 20 (looking at you Zelda OoT & Goldeneye!)
A
side from this, really looking forward to seeing what Bethesda/Panic Button can do with a game which is developed from the ground up, bearing in mind what amazing jobs they've done with their previous ports.

Re: Review: Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (Switch)

FredTheCat

What a surprise, once again people are whining about SD cards. You can pick up a Sandisk or Samsung 128gb card for £32 on Amazon. Even if every download is 20gb, that is still only £5 per game.
The reality is most games need nowhere near that....my 128GB card has 6Gb left and I have over 50 games on it - ranging from Resi Evil Revelations 2 at just over 20gb, and many indie games taking up very little space. So that card has cost me 50pence on average per game.....hardly a problem for anyone in reality!
?!?
I'm currently downloading Wolfenstein, I want to play the game and I'm mature enough to just buy it rather than throw toys out of a pram because some memory storage will be used up!!

Re: Ubisoft Collaborating With Virtuos For The Switch Version Of Starlink: Battle For Atlas

FredTheCat

Yet again people are whining about storage. Amazon are selling a 200GB Sandisk card for £54.99, which for even the largest games makes it less than a fiver per game. Hardly breaking the bank is it?
?
Publishers are bound to prefer that you buy download games - more profit as no physical overheads, plus they don't make money on traded games. Additionally games are sold at 'rrp' which is usually £10 more than physical - this has been the case for years, and for Sony/Microshaft too. Nice extra profit there too.

Re: Nintendo Switch Only Accounted For 7% Of Ubisoft's Yearly Revenue

FredTheCat

@electrolite77
Table refers to 5% for Q4 2017/8 which may be a typo.
Nasdaq website refers to 5% Switch forecasts for Q4 2018, their source being ibi's trading statement. Interestingly Same forecasts from ubi states that their revenue from rereleases/rehashes of old games on different platforms is to increase from 45 to 50%

Re: Nintendo Switch Only Accounted For 7% Of Ubisoft's Yearly Revenue

FredTheCat

Bearing in mind they only forecast 5% for Q4 this year, I can't imagine they are going to bother releasing anything for the Switch. Aside from Mario Rabbids, what else was going to be a volume seller? Certainly not Rayman which has been released to death on every platform imaginable and people don't love the franchise.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Micro SD Cards

FredTheCat

@Audiobrainiac
Amazon prices vary every day (or even by the hour), check regularly and you'll find they are more expensive on thursdays/fridays (for people who order for a weekend delivery). Often the cheapest days for items are Tues or Weds.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Micro SD Cards

FredTheCat

@the8thark
Whats the problem with NintendoLife getting a tiny amount of commission from Amazon sales?? It does not cost any of us anything, we still pay the same price, plus it helps keep NintendoLife going - a tiny price to pay for news/reviews/etc.

Re: Random: Cats Can't Get Enough Of Nintendo Labo

FredTheCat

Bearing in mind how all cats love cardboard, esp boxes and corrugated cardboard (better than any rope scratching post), I've ordered two No.1 kits, one for me, the other for my cats to go ballastic with.

wrt language, there are over 160,000 words in the English language which gives everyone plenty of alternatives to swear words (unless you are under 6).
Sadly Miiverse perished, but Nintendo's zero tolerance policy to swearing and abusive made that a delightful, helpful forum.

Re: A Quiet Week Sees Super Mario Odyssey Back In The UK Chart Top Ten

FredTheCat

@Agramonte
I've never thought the UK market cared much about Kirby (unlike the US market) so not surprised its not high up in the charts, besides its not really a great game / system seller like Mario Kart or Odyssey.

I'm assuming that as usual the 'charts' are for physical sales only, which kind of makes them irrelevant. I was really pleased to see both Skyrim and Doom back in the Switch European download charts during their promotional sale.

Re: Preview: Getting Gruesome In Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus On Switch

FredTheCat

I still cannot understand why some people are whining about having to use up memory (either inbuilt or SD). The same people aren't moaning about swapping a game cartridge to change games, or switching discs on prior Nintendo machines or on other consoles. I could sympathise if it was a complicated task to swap an SD card, but it's 5 seconds at most, less than swapping a game on my WiiU!

Some games need more storage than a cartridge can currently provide, my 128GB card is nearly full but it won't stop me just getting another card when required. Oh no that means I might have to waste perhaps 5 seconds a week if I wanted to play some older purchases!! Might even be 10 seconds.......the end of the world is coming

However, I can't wait until Wolfenstein is released, extra downloads won't make any difference, I just hope (and expect) the game plays anything like as well as Skyrim and Doom do on the Switch. All hail Bethesda.

Re: Nintendo Plans To Increase "discoverability and visibility" On The Switch eShop

FredTheCat

@MadCow74
Glad you mentioned having reviews on the eshop, I kind of miss the WiiU's basic review system even with its limitations.

Perhaps the ratings could be by NintendoLife and also Metacritic (and I know that might start a massive discussion about why not include/exclude every other review site, which one is best or "my site is better than your site" etc etc!)

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Riding High On Switch's Wave, But What Does It Need To Do To Stay There?

FredTheCat

@FragRed
I was pleasantly surprised that the WiiU Miiverse was pretty stable/reliable, hopefully Nintendo has brought in external experts for their online system - everything else about the Switch so far has been pretty spot on.
As for games, I also need to see more than Mario Tennis and Kirby (I think thats an American thing, it never seems to have been popular over here).
Most third parties have held back (not surprising after the WiiU disasters), but hoping that Bethesda's early commitment will be followed by more now Switch sales are sky-high. Personally can't wait for Wolfenstein after the delights of Skyrim and Doom.
